Most interesting museum we've ever been in! We've traveled the US and several countries and I must say, this is the one that we stumbled on that will forever be remembered! Who knew a rotary jail was a thing? Not us! The guided tour takes you through the sheriff's residence which has several original furnishings and household items. There's plenty of history to read on the walls and other time period items to learn about but the main attraction is of course the jail! Our tour guide was a bit odd and he was pretty short in his stories and explanations but the gal that toured the jail and basement was perfect! She explained everything in detail and embellished with some tales of the jail! The jail rotates! Literally spins around with one door in and one door out! Well, that was the way it was built originally and operated until 1933, then they said no more rotating, too many prisoner injuries! It still rotates though, the only one in existence so definitely a must see!

We loved our tour. It was very informative and fun. My daughter says she had a blast while learning about the history. She had smiles and enjoyed telling others about what she learned when we left. We were told about different events that they hold. If you enjoy spooky things, they offer something at Halloween. There are classes held and also open for event rental. They accept cash ( best option for entry) because Square can not always be reliable in my opinion. It's just $5 entry and that leaves extra for donation for preservation.

This is a must see! I cannot believe that this jail was built in 1882. Elizabeth was an absolutely amazing guide. Her knowledge is incredible and I could have spent all day just listening to the stories she knew.

Are you into historic stuff? Does old engineering amaze you? Does history make you curious? Then you are in for a Trifecta treat. This jail is the last working jail of this kind in the country. The history of the building is fascinating and the demonstration was particularly cool. If you are interested in historic one of a kind locations then this is a cheap must stop location for a brief tour through jail life history of this one of a kind rotary style system.

A hidden gem that you must stop and see. Historical rotary jail that is the only working one left in the world. Tour guide was amazing and knew everything about the place without a script and was able to answer all our questions. Building is beautifully kept, many older artifacts, and a lot of interesting history. Best part is it’s only 5 bucks a person.

Great off the wall, unique museum! The docent was very knowledgeable, and frankly, the whole thing is fascinating!! There's not much to do in town, but I went there as a side trip from Indianapolis. They also have a John Dillinger death mask copy on display with other notable pieces of early 20th century memorabilia.

My husband and I had a great time! We had an awesome guide who knew all kinds of history about the jail and the town. Definitely recommend the guided tour so you can get the whole story, and he rotated the cells which was super cool to see! Beautiful building in the living quarters with lots of original furnishings. A cast of John Dillinger's death mask was displayed which was neat and creepy. Also, the story of John Coffee from The Green Mile came from this jail! All in all, a unique experience to be had.

The museum is a visit back in time! Very cool! We were able to explore it both by ourselves at parts and with a guide who'd actually put people in the jail years ago. Neat history experience for both me and my kiddos!

Super cool place to visit! It's the ONLY FUNCTIONING rotary jail left in the country! The other 2 do NOT rotate. The tour guide was passionate about doing her job and was very good! It was only $5 for adults & $3 for kids under 12y.o.

This was a fun experience. The jail was interesting and the staff added so much. Paranormal stories were fun to hear. The staff shared personally when asked about their work. My wife and I recommend this Indiana gem.

Drove over an hour to come here with my family. Online it said they were open and when I checked the door handle it was locked. Total waste of time and gas. Highly advise people not to come here unless you want to be disappointed.

The admission is a donation to help with the upkeep of the museum. The woman at the desk and the man doing the speaking during the tour were both very accommodating and extremely knowledgeable.

We visited this museum today and Brittney gave us a wonderful tour. If you're interested in history and old architecture, you'll love visiting the rotary jail. And if you are intersted in historical jails in particular, this place is a must-see because there are only 3 rotary jails still standing in America and this is the only one where the mechanism for turning the jail cells still works!

We stopped on a whim and were so happy we did! It was such a good tour and even got to hear from the man who lived in the home attached to the jail when he was a boy. And the knowledge that the staff has is amazing. Worth the stop if your going through.

The rotary jail museum was very interesting. The front is the sheriff's house and the back is the jail. The docent was very knowledgeable and shared several stories about the jail.

The Rotary Jail Museum is a fantastic stop! Brittany is so knowledgeable about the history of the building and shares so much information with her tours. I have toured many jails and prisons but the Rotary Jail Museum is so unique in its structure; you won't see anything like it any where else since it is the only operating rotary jail still around. This museum is a must see!

This was an unexpected fun find. We were on our way to Illinois for a wedding and we stopped here for a mini-vacation. My wife saw a brochure at the motel and not knowing exactly what it was we decided to go and give it a try. We are glad we did. The tour guide was exceptional. You could easily tell that she had a great interest in history and particularly the jail. We were intrigued by the concept of this unusual jail and the other that were built like it. It's design made it almost escape proof but tragically because of its design people were injured and the public outcry caused it to be closed. We are glad the community has kept it open.

Incredible experience! Absolute delight. It is clear that those involved in this museum really care about it. The woman who gave us our tour was knowledgeable and friendly, and excited to talk about what she knows. She showed us every detail of the house and jail and even gave us delightful recommendations for food and other museums in the area. We ate at Maxine's on Green at her recommendation and toured both Lane Place and the Lew Wallace Museum, which we wouldn't have known about without her suggestions. This museum was well worth the trip from Cincinnati, not only for the museum's contents but for the care, knowledge, and excitement of the staff.

The building is beautiful. Brittany BestTourGuideEver is knowledgeable and made the tour incredibly enjoyable. We had a great time and learned a lot. I definitely recommend adding the museum to your itinerary whether you're staying in the area, or even just passing through.

Very cool museum, fascinating history of a time where prison rights were very lax. Interesting rotatory mechanism that was later found to be inhumane. Our tour guide Becky was very knowledge and energetic, we learned a lot. This is a must see if you are in the area.
