(Translated by Google) A place that you cannot miss if you are in Panama. Fort San Lorenzo, is a Military Fort built by the Spanish crown for the defense of its territory, dates back to 1601 and it was taken and destroyed by the pirate Henry Morgan in 1671 and named a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1980. To visit them you must go to the city of Colón, take the new Pacific Bridge that crosses the Panama Canal (it will give you a wonderful view of it), go to Fort Sherman (former US military base) and pass the sentry box guarded by The Air Naval Service takes the road to San Lorenzo, the journey is approx 7KM through an exuberant tropical jungle with lots of wildlife to observe, you must bear in mind that at this time the road is quite deteriorated, but it is still passable. The monument has a picnic area, impeccable bathrooms, a super attentive staff, security in charge of public forces, parking. Currently complies with all measures to avoid contagion of COVID19. It is MANDATORY to comply with the provisions for the use of a Mask (mouth cover), taking temperature before entering and distancing yourself from people outside your group. I recommend you bring your camera, water, wear sunscreen, a hat, light clothing, comfortable shoes, preferably closed, and eager to explore and learn a bit of history and enjoy the view of the sea and the Chagres River. Please, apart from your enthusiasm, do not leave anything on the monument or on the road. The images that I share are the information of schedules and cost of the entrance.

A chance to see remnants of an old fort as well as picnic in nature. Came here as part of a tour booked through Viator but noticed that it’s just $5 for nonresidents to visit. There are picnic tables in the shade and you can take a leisurely or quick tour of the fort. There is a hill with old cannons on top and you can see a nice view of nature. I would recommend wearing closed toed shoes. There are restrooms available. This is a less visited tourist site so it’s nice to get away from the crowds.

I'm not sure how I feel about the restoration.... the original stone and ancient history that is so clearly visible is important. But so is protecting it. Just such a stack contrast seeing the new work compared to the old. It's worth seeing it in its original wonder for sure. And no doubt will be awesome to see when it's complete as well.

(Translated by Google) It is a very attractive and interesting place for local tourism. You can have some improvements in basic services for the high season. The road needs to be repaired on the 6 km stretch between the Fort Sherman junction and Fort S. Lorenzo. Better if they travel by van or a tall vehicle.

Wow Wow Wow!!! We did not expect much but we were wrong! A beautiful site with so much history and information. All the signs are in English as well as Spanish. Parking is limited but there is a police officer helping to get space elsewhere. It was crazy hot but the tour takes about an hour and the view is magnificent and you understand why this site was chosen. We are a Canadian family and it is impressive to see that this castillo was there long time before our country was created! It is really affordable ($5 USD/per) and there are washrooms and potable water. No restaurants but a lot of calm and serenity. I hope the site is going to be better maintained and preserved since there are pieces of the fortification lying everywhere and it is tempted to grab one. You also get to encounter some wildlife and to travel on the brand new Atlantico bridge. A lovely day!

We were staying at shelter bay & thought it was a good idea to walk. It’s almost 2 hours & although on tarmac, it’s a bit much in the heat. When we got there it’s $5 cash only! Antonio the tour guide was very friendly & spoke great English. They only sell bottled water FYI. There wasn’t much else to see in the area so this was a good day out, we spent maybe an hour at the fortress. I wish there was more information about sir Francis drake etc but it’s all mostly presumptions.

(Translated by Google) I loved this adventure. My family and I after visiting the Sherman Fort (sorry if I misspelled it) we went curious to the other side of the road and it was an unforgettable walk. First of all, I will tell you that the road is in very bad condition but it is still worth traveling. Upon arriving after approximately 9 km on the way, you will find the Castillo de San Lorenzo, a spectacle, the views are truly impressive and make you want to stay the night there, too bad there are no hotels or inns nearby or nearby. at least I don't know. I loved going to those sides of the city of Colón. The third bridge is a majesty. I recommend it 100%. Bring water, food and sunscreen. We don't wear anything and we get sunstroke. 🙈 However when we left they sold us water but there is only that. Lleven agua, comida y protector solar.

This place hasn't changed since the Spanish colony. The fort is really well preserved and located in the middle of a lush tropical forest. Stunning view on the see and the surrounding landscape. Really easy to reach. The main road is currently in refurbishment. The fort has a nice parking lot and has some clean toilets. The entrance fee is of $3 for adults citizens or permanent residents and of $5 for foreigners. A must see place to visit in the Colón province.

They've done a good job restoring the infrastructure to represent the original architecture as best as possible; as a protected landmark it's pretty clean and preserved, hopefully they can keep it that way despite the visitors.

An old Spanish castle that served to protect the entrance to Charges river, which was used as a waterway to cross to Panama City. Together with fortifications in Portobelo, it belongs UNESCO World Heritage Sites. Although the road requires maintenance, you can get there on any type of vehicle. On site you will find diagrams and history details.
