The BEST meal and service, I have had in a long time. My Best Friend said, let's try Bobby's Barrel they have good reviews. When we pulled up we thought it was closed, almost went somewhere else, but decided to give it a shot. Loved the atmosphere and the service was prompt and attentive. So, we heard the chicken was good. It was amazing. Also amazing were the mash potatoes, Mac and cheese, and rolls. Turns out all of this is homemade. You simply can't find food like this anywhere. Every bite had us wanting more. And more we did... Turns out they also have homemade Peach Cobbler, yeap. It does not disappoint.... Simply Amazing! Going back, Yes! Recommended, Hell Yes! Can't wait to try something else.

My wife and I were visiting friends out in the area there and drove right by Bobby's. Did a uee, came back and we weren't disappointed. My wife had the patty melt and fruit, and it was a good size piece of meat on that Patty melt. I had the broasted chicken with mashed potatoes and coleslaw. A couple of Millers for me and ginger ale for my wife. And to top it all off, some peach cobbler that was very tasty and original. Talking to the owner, real interesting backstory on the place. I really enjoyed the ambiance, you're not bored while you're waiting for your food. Friendly nice folks.

Best fish fry in the area and so worth the 18.50 price for all you can eat. A lot of cute memorabilia for a conversation piece and the service is fast and friendly.

October 2022 Once again the cod AYCE is just superb! The service is excellent. Very attentive, without being a nuisance. I would have given 5⭐this time except for what they called a peach cobbler, really wasn't. It was warm peaches in sauce covered with a big scoop of vanilla ice cream whipped cream, caramel sauce and beads that resembled a crumble. There wasn't any biscuit or cake, which is what I was really looking forward to. Not a bowl full of peaches swimming in sauce. Very disheartening. Go for the fish, service and ambiance. Go to Jewel for dessert. May 2022 Excellent!! Hubby and I had the all-you-can-eat cod fish fry. We both had the beer batter, which at first, it is not your regular thick pancakie batter. Instead it was light and just enough to cover and let the true taste of the fish to shine through. I them tried a piece of the Garlic broiled piece. Mmmm, yummy! That was so good. I literally made a pig of myself by eating 8 pieces of fish. Bit it was so good, I just couldn't help myself. Wednesday and Friday all you can eat. The antique chachkies gave this place its charm. Only downside, there is an "old" musty smell to the place.

Awesome breakfast! Every time my family comes here for breakfast, we have a great experience. If you like corned beef, you have to get their corned beef hash- it is made with real corned beef and it is hard to stop eating it! They also have great specials, this past trip that we came here, I got the Apple bread French toast with cranberry butter and it was fantastic! They really know how to do breakfast right!

Amazing, amazing and I'll say it again AMAZING! My girlfriend and I went to Volo auto museum and were hungry. New to the Crystal Lake area (1 year) we Googled and stumbled into Bobby's. The entire experience from the Staff, Bobby himself to the family members and the stories they shared. Let's not forget the F. O. O. D. We felt bad because it must have looked like we haven't eaten in weeks; I mean we ate everything! Biscuits and gravy-perfect. The biscuits were not doughy or floury tasting, the sausage was not too spicy and no grease running into the gravy; the gravy was excellent. REAL corned beef and hash - who does this anymore!? Winner a must have! Blueberry pancakes. Real blueberries (obviously) and damn they are just friggin good too! Most places add some vanilla extract and that makes everybody happy, I don't know what Bobby does but these pancakes blow away any others I have tried. Bread pudding - WOW sums it up. If my father were alive he would be back for the bread pudding, the corned beef hash and the biscuits and gravy as these were some of his favorites. Finally, as if we could eat anymore, the peach cobbler. Simple delicious, not over sweet and fresh peaches-this will put a smile on your face. I highly recommend this place. Bobby's Barrel is cozzy, comfortably, friendly with food that will please and suprise your taste buds! Enjoy!

What a place!!! Meat loaf was the best I have ever had. Everything we ate was great, peach cobbler is a must for dessert. This is a cool place to eat and have drinks, does not look like much on the outside but very cosy on the inside

From the time we arrived until the second we left, we were treated with such a gracious and kind attitude. Service was phenomenal and the food was incredibly delicious! They truly took the time to get to know us during our time there as well. We will 100% be back, just for the lovely people we met during our lunch (and the tasty meatloaf dinner). Thank you so much for the wonderful meal and for making this an amazing experience for our 3 year old!

This was our pit stop on our way to the Volo car museum. As soon as we walked it, my family and I were accomodated to a roomy table. Friendly and homey ambiance. Our waited (who sounded like John Goodman) was so friendly. He answered my questions regarding the chicken pot pie (if it came by itself or with bread, came with texas toast). The chicken pot pie was delicious and also orderded a triple decker blt which was also really delicious.

We were there for my son’s Navy graduation and wanted some homestyle food. Staff was amazing like their food. I can’t recall the names of the plates but they were super good my daughter order a small pizza, I thought it was going to be like microwave pizza but it wasn’t. I think we all took a piece from her pizza, because it was super good. We really appreciated the staff. We never got ruched out, they helped to explain their menu and made some suggestions. At the end my son got a free dessert for his achievement. I would definitely be back and recommend this place.

This place is excellent. My husband and and children enjoyed it. The breakfast were nice and hot. The waitress Krissy was amazing and friendly. Mr. Bobby himself came over and explain all of the dishes that we could have that time of the morning and made them exactly how we want it done. Excellent service. He’s also a member of the Chamber of Commerce and so I love the service while visiting from Texas. I recommend this amazing place

Saturday Morning Breakfast place~ almost hate to share it, but love the place enough to want them to succeed beyond bad weather and politically charged USA. Because the food and atmosphere are so worth waking up for and grabbing your favorite friend for breakfast or brunch at least a couple times a month! Pete keeps his counters clean, his food hot, his tables happy, and his decor interesting and blooming! Bobby’s Barrel is full of fun, with many great recipes to try, quality delicious food, and wonderful Lake County atmosphere. Friendly people serve friendly people! It is wholesome food, with antiques and novelties on the wall and blooming pots surrounding garden seating. It is a Bloody Mary with Sunday morning egg casseroles or Mimosas with mouth watering brunch next to a pot of sunflowers and a side of breakfast pizza. You make your meal the special occasion and let them provide their best recipes that pack ‘em in day and night! There are scars on the tables and nicks on the wood and yet, there is nothing served that doesn’t come hot and fresh or cold and bubbly from the kitchen or bar due to Pete’s rigorous standards! There are some places we live to eat out in on the weekends, to get our favorite meals before the game or shopping, or just to meet for breakfast because the atmosphere is friendly and there is seating at the counter or outside on unusual fun occasions when we just want to make the meal an occasion itself- that’s Bobby’s Barrel! The specials are just that~ SPECIAL. Good cooks are essential to the success of Bobby’s Barrel and they dig deep to find them and keep them! Cranberry French Toast, Breakfast Pizza, Polish Sausage and Egg Casserole~ they stock take- home containers because the portions are large! We’re going back after our granddaughter’s fall softball game next Sat and probably for Fri Fish Fry soon because we met people at the counter this morning and set a date to see them back at Bobby’s- why not? It’s that kind of place!

We love the breakfast here. The owner and staff are always super friendly and attentive. Our favorites are corn beef (from scratch) and eggs and country fried steak. Today, they had apple bread from a local bakery, and it was amazing. Bobby's is a 25-minute drive from our home, but it is always worth the short trip.

We've been there twice now and every time, the food is one of the best I've eaten (their New Years eggs benedict special was THE best eggs benedict I've ever had, and their reuben is amazing). Service is always friendly and fantastic and the atmosphere is cozy and comfy, just like I like it.

Good food in a small pub atmosphere. Would definitely go back. They offer Wednesday and Friday, Fish Fries. This Chicken sandwich on a Chibatta Roll with Fresh Spinach and Tomato was very good. I wish the sauce had a little more flavor. The home made Cole Slaw was excellent. The Southwest Steak Wrap my daughter ordered was also quite tasty. But again the sauce could have had a little more flavor. My other daughter enjoyed her Cheese Burger and the Cheese Curds. Service was friendly, and attentive. (A 4.4)

We came here for breakfast when we were earlier than the rest of our group heading to the Volo Auto museum and had really attentive, thoughtful service and great food. After refilling my cup of coffee more than once, the waitress brought over a huge to-go cup and all the creamer I could think of. They were very funny and attentive with all of the service, but that really made us laugh. When everyone was hungry after the museum experience, it was an easy choice to come right back with a larger group of friends and family. Everybody ordered something different and loved their options and the great friendly service and quick delivery of food. Enjoyed the decor inside, the garden out front, and the stained glass art for sale. It was also fun meeting the artist while they were setting up our tables for the larger group at lunch.

Nice little place with surprisingly excellent food. I had the fish special which I usually am not a big fan of fish, but the description from the staff made me want to try it. Glad I did as it was excellent, I even took some home for dinner later that day. Looking forward to going back again soon.

I brought my senior group to Bobby's Barrel for breakfast before our visit to the auto museum. Pete, his family, and staff went out of their way to serve our group of 30 with efficiency AND excellent food. And this was all while keeping up with a very busy regular breakfast crowd. Great place!

We really enjoyed this local mom and pop joint. The food was excellent and the service was above and beyond anywhere we've ever visited before. The owner went and got some crayons and coloring books for our kids and then hung their art on the wall. I recommend this place to anyone near the area. Prices were reasonable too.

Great place with excellent food and service. Loved the cute decor and atmosphere of this little place. They were busy the whole time we were there but never felt rushed at all. Staff was very friendly and the food was excellent! Was told good was a local favorite and they were right! It's a favorite for a reason.

tldr - amazing food and service. Definitely check out the specials, you won't be disappointed. Went here one Saturday morning for brunch and we will for sure be back. For starters, the service was impeccable. We walked in and they were just bussing tables and were sat within a few minutes. We sat down and they took our drink orders right away. My boyfriend and I both ordered off of the specials menu board and we were not disappointed. My boyfriend ordered the western Benedict and loved it. It was a huge order. I ordered the barrel breakfast pizza. It was also really good, only complaint is that sausage gravy was a bit thin to nonexistent closer to the crust. I only ate about half of the pizza. It heated up wonderfully in the toaster oven the next morning.

We have been here before for breakfast, which is awesome, but the burgers and fries were amazing! Pumpernickel, giant hand-made patty, double-battered fries, so good. And if you like inexpensive beer, like I do, this is your place! Forgot to get a pic of our food but we’ll be back soon! Across from the new Woodmans, give it a try!

A Family friend told us we needed to check this place out and I’m glad we did— place is a Hidden gem. Great bloodies, delicious food, amazing service and such kind owners. What a cozy and welcoming experience— will certainly be back again. It’s good to know places and genuine people like this still exist in today’s world.

This place is a hidden gem, great food reasonably priced. All the food is fresh, coleslaw was fresh and nicely chilled, nothing was day old in this place. Really cute, the only thing is once you walk in there's a stench, smells like a dirty mop & bucket. The flooring is new pergo, but closer to the entrance there's a slew of poker machines that obviously sit on top of rug that's probably been there since 1983 when they opened.

I've heard about this place so much and decided to try here for lunch today. Glad I did, it was everything people have talked about. Great Service n Friendly as well. Food was on point. No clue as to way I never came here before, they offer an All You Can Eat Fish Fry on Friday Nights and a Lunch portion as well, there Burgers are great from what I hear. I kept it simple and had their BLT, Which was delicious. I will be back and look forward to trying their different food offers. Building is old from what I was told and is located in Old Historic Volo. Come try this place, won't be disappointed!!!!

Place was a huge hit. Rustic and kitschy with you standard American style classic dishes. The breakfast was amazing. Perfect eggs, toast, and bacon actually cooked the proper way. The owner stopped at the table a couple times for chitchat and was both entertaining and very kind. My coffee was always full and hot, and I never ran out of cream sugar or condiments. The place has been there a real long time and is a family business which I love to support. Lots of local art on display and for purchase. Super close the the Volo auto museum which I also love to go visit. Stop in for some breakfast and support local small business. Say hi from me :)

Pros: Had NO clue this gem of a place was so close to us. They apparently have the BEST "breakfast casseroles" (the one pictured has bell peppers, onions, ham, sausage, and gravy, with 2 eggs poached, over hashbrowns) and comes with side. Omg, delicious!!! And enough for me to take half home. They have a large menu but I was put in a trance once I tried this. Warning: Breakfast is not served after 11 AM, so FYI! Ambiance is a little outdated but cozy. Will 100% be returning with friends and family.
