Very fun stop in Cuenca for food or drink. I stoped in for a smoothie. $1 Mango smoothie. Delicious If I lived in Cuenca, I would stop here every day for fruit and ceviche.

Mercado 9 de Octubre is an amazing place. I didn't take any pictures there but it's well organized, neat, and the products are great.

Typical Ecuadorian marketplace with authentic experience. You will find there fruits, vegetables 🥦 and meat 🥩. On the top floor you will find some places to drink and eat something.

Excellent fruit and veggie prices. Came midweek so not as many vendors. Meat section did not seem appealing. Strong smells.

The amazing experience at the market. Do you know if you are from far this can be an amazing experience because I love how the woman’s who are selling this stuff are very kind and lovely. They always calling you Mi amor or Vecino this mean my love or my neighbor they have beautiful colors there I love the fruit pleace in the vegetables around one of my another favorite place at the market is the smoothie stand They have very good ones for very good prices is pretty cheap can be from one dollar to three or four dollars no more if you like drink this kind of juice that is your place the best in the fresh one. And what I don’t buy there is the meat because I don’t prefer to get from somewhere else because you don’t know exactly where it is from. What is still OK is not that bad.

Dona Margarita makes the BEST Ham&cheese sandwiches!! Tostada con jamon y Queso! Grab a Coca Cola but she serves great fruit juices. These tostada/sandwiches are made with the freshest soft bread and are served crispy on the outside and pillowy soft on the inside. The meat and cheese (is from downstairs) delicious.

This market is big enough to bring you amazement but small enough to not take all day. It really is just a spot to but food too cook or on the 3rd floor to eat. I can say if you eat Pig go to the 3rd floor and have some of the roasted pig. It is the best I have ever had. I even tried it in other spots around Ecuador and this place just has it down right. Of course food by American standard is inexpensive and it seems to be just about the right price for the area. I have read people calling it dirty. I don't agree at all . The place is old so some stuff is worn out but nothing was dirty and even the meat market didn't smell bad. That is definitely not the case everywhere.

Don't have as much stuff as Mercado 10 de Agosto, but still a decent local market. - 2022/09/22

Pretty cool market in the middle of the Cuenca historical district. Hot food upstairs is fantastic and you can have a full meal for under $5. Make sure to stop by one of the juice stands and get yourself a fresh strawberry milkshake and go home happy.

One of Cuenca's main mercados in El Centro. Great place for fresh produce, meat and grains at reasonable prices. There is a large plaza outside the market with many informal vendors overflowing into the adjacent streets. Great vibrant atmosphere.

Community theater held in a 109 year old ship which started life as a herring trawler from North Holland, the Netherlands. She was comenderred into WWII as a minesweeper. Having survived that she became a theater on the sea performing in more than 300 international cities. She is now anchored on solid ground in Manta, Ecuador, serving as a local community theater.

Mercado 9 de Octubre is three stories with fish and meat on the bottom, fresh produce and a few snack vendors on the ground floor, and then cookshops and smoothie vendors on top. Bargaining isn't really necessary as prices are pretty standard. The difference is with the size and quality you get for that standard price. We did a majority of our shopping at these produce markets. Jedd also found one of his favorite meals here - a $1 bowl of chicken or pork, starches, and broth. We also enjoyed the batidos (smoothies). I should mention here that the only time a local Cuencano actually named an area that we should avoid for safety (primarily at night) it was here. As pickpocketing is a crime of opportunity, it's always wise to carry as few valuables as possible and keep them close and concealed on your body until you need them. Otherwise it is safe to visit during the day. For more recommendations on what to do in and around Cuenca, find our blog posts by searching: "Intentional Travelers Cuenca"

A beautiful place where the natives go to make their business either in the streets or in the stores. It's one of the best way to observe the locals life style.

Very impressed how things had changed since the last time I was shopping around in Mercado 9 de Octubre. The place looks clean, very organized, and the train that runs and stops at the Mercado for the people's convenience and despite all the challenges due to covid, business owners and people enforce and follow recommendations to protect consumers health.

👍👍 Cuenca’s most popular urban park. The grounds are very well manicured: the lawns mowed smooth, blooming flower beds, trees with good canopies provide shade and are also blooming.😎😎😎 The focal point is man made lake fed by a tributary from the adjacent Rio Tomebamba.
