Lovely place near the canal and very accessible from the train station. The restaurant is cosy and charming, vintage decoration and a fire place in the middle. It is ideal to have a drink or a nice dinner. I was a bit disappointed by the shared platter which was with too much fried stuff , but overall well served. Staff people is very friendly and kind.

As a pub it is very lively. Service was good with lots of staff at the bar. Shout out to them as they were working very hard as it was so busy. Food wasn't good though. I had the chicken burger and it was dry. The chips were hard. I also had the pasta and sauce was very watery and had no flavour. Very over priced.

Well worth a visit! Great introductory talk, demonstration and tour. Our group really enjoyed delving into the fascinating history of paper making. Great to see it in action too!

The Paper Mill is a little gem hidden in the outskirts of Hemel Hempstead. This place in the summer is truly something special and makes you forget where you actually are. We had our gender reveal at The Mill and it was one of the most memorable days of our lives. Not only because I proposed to the missus but because the staff were able to deal with the amount of people who attended our event. Great selection of spirits and drafts and the food looked amazing too, I will have to update this review when we go back for lunch sometime. Thank you to the team @papermillpub for having us on that wonderful afternoon, hopefully there wasn't to much mess to clean up afterwards. You guys were all incredible on the day, top spot and great customer service.

Vibrant, welcoming and spacious canalside pub at Apsley Marina; with great food and wide selection of drinks. Plenty of outdoor seating. Very convenient for Apsley railway station. You can expect 'London' prices - two pints for around £10!

Brilliant food. (chorizo scotch egg starter was amazing as was the crispy squid) we followed this with a burger n fries with added bbq brisket for 1.50 extra. Not the best burger I've eaten, but was still good. Service was prompt and pleasant. Nice one Paper Mill! Think this would be my new favourite place to eat for this kind of food, only gripe is that it's on the pricey side. (starters were £6+ each, and burger was £14+ each)

VERY average roast… and that’s being generous. I went for the 3 meats (beef, pork and chicken). The chicken was a drum stick, and then 1 slice of each of beef and pork. The beef was nice enough, pork was a bit dry and the chicken had been kept warm for a long time. In fact all of it tasted like it was made in the morning and kept warm for hours… so was just quite dry Big Yorkshire but not much gravy to go with it so again it was dry. The cauliflower cheese was very disappointing. You can see my picture how there are two tiny pieces and it felt like they just been waved in a bit of cheese sauce. If you contrast that to the cauliflower cheese that comes with the vegan roast dinner, then the vegan one comes with a full portion. Other vegetables – I got some chopped up cabbage and that was it. My wife had the roast pork and she also got parsnips and carrots. Everyone’s version of roast was different so it wasn’t consistent. Stuffing, although tiny, was very small. No crackling with the 3 roast but it comes with the pork. £23.50 for the meat roast which was a lot for what they actually produced. I know I can cook so much better at home so felt like a waste of money overall. The service was fine, the women that served us were very polite. Bringing out the food was a bit sporadic. Three or four dishes came out and then there was a 10 minute delay until the rest of them came out. Surely if you’re just serving reheated roast dinner, it could all come out at the same time. This used to be my local until I moved away three years ago, it feels like it’s gone downhill since we were there. I won’t rush back.

Love this place. Paper Mill have a lovely terrace by the canal so when is sunny it is really nice to sit down there. They also have a plenty room inside to sit. The food is not too expensive and it is very yummy 😋

Booked the hotel next door and came to this pub for dinner and drinks with friends. The Sausage and mash was fantastic! Great service from the team, especially Jay as always. Highly recommend!

Lovely pub by the canal. Lots of seating outside and inside. Parking outside, remember to put your reg in the tablet at the bar. Reasonably pub menu, well presented. Starters, mains, puddings, or bar snacks. Good selection of drinks. Service is excellent and friendly. Lively atmosphere, very enjoyable. I had the burger, very tasty.

The Paper Mill is a lovely pub with amazing views, this place has nice decoration and a warm friendly atmosphere and lovely staff. Overall, has a limited menu not much for vegetarians but definitely a lovely vibe….!!

Lovely buzzy pub on the canal, very popular place. Food was excellent, service was very quick despite how busy it was. Reasonably priced. Large carpark. Plenty of seats both inside and out. You can reserve a table too. QR codes on the tables to place your order so you don't have to queue at the bar. You do have to input your vehicle number plate on the screen at the bar though otherwise you may be charged for parking. Would definitely return.

Fantastic location right by the Canal you can sit outside and check out the boats coming & going at the lock while enjoying your food and drink. Dog friendly with doggy beer (water + bowls) & some dog treats available for well behaved 🐕 🐩 mutt's. Nice menu, nice food...A bit on the experience side for my wallet. Fuller's beer on tap at London prices!! 🍺 ☹️ Limited car parking/time (see signs in the pub car park for more information). Wheelchair friendly with disabled toilet (baby 🍼 changing) available with a lift to first floor 🚽 & restaurant.

Ate here two nights in a row as so nice, staff really friendly as well, love the real fire :) 2nd night there was a live band on which was good but too loud to the point it was deafening and you couldn't hear each other even though shouting, we sat outside though which was fine, definitely recommend this place and will be back, thankyou x

Good parking. Lovely to sit by canal. The food overpriced and not so good. Went at 7.15 on Sunday night. My daughter had the plant burger but it was hard on outside and very dry and overcooked. We complained and they gave her another dinner. My mother and I had the Triple roast at around£18. The meats were overcooked and a little dry. The Yorkshire's huge but very chewy and cauliflower cheese soggy and discoloured. I would give it a 5/10. Think it had all been reheated, probably microwaved. Need Gordon Ramsey t to go in there. I won't be returning for food. A large wine, beer and lemonade with the food brought our bill to £70. I wouldn't mind if it had been yummy.

Nice pub with good seating outside along the canal. Food was good and service friendly. Pub charged two service charges on bill for drinks and food. Although I don't mind paying a service charge it's a bit cheeky as we never moved from the table.

The main course was excellent however the tripple cooked chips were soggy and the sweet potato chips were oily. The coffee was also tepid. The app didn't work properly. The staff out front however were doing their very best to help people and the service was good. The jokes were the best bit of the visit apart from the fabulous views

Lovely pub, we sat outside by the edge of Aspley Lock in the Sunshine. We only had sandwiches but the food others had looked good.

I’m very local to this pub and have come a few times for food and drink. Location is beautiful and convenient too. The food is on the pricey side considering the portions are pretty small and not always up to highest quality. Would love to see more vegan options too! Would be happy to continue to keep visiting in the hope this improves.

Great place right next to our hotel ! We walked in for dinner around 7pm and was greeted right away. They had some band playing downstairs, which wasn’t really for us but sounded great and luckily we were able to be seated upstairs in another section. The service was extremely attentive and super kind, our server “Karmen” along with her coworkers were amazing to us. The food came out quick and everything tasted amazing! The fish & chips were nice and crispy, not much to no oil. Overall everything was amazing !

As gastro pubs go, this is pretty good. A nice spot on the canal with a variety of alcohol and food for all. We went on a Friday night and it was packed - hardly anywhere to stand inside, and outside it was too cold. Can’t really fault the venue, it just felt wild and stressful for some odd reason. If you like a peaceful drink with friends this is not the place at the weekend.

Great atmosphere, but there’s one bartender you should avoid. He has tattoo sleeves on both arms and a bald head. He served my girlfriend and was all Mr. Charming for women but when it came to guys he was extremely discourteous; I wonder what his motivation for that was. Overall it’s a great venue, but their staff needs some happiness. Maybe they should visit the bathroom ;)

Great staff and nice food. Felt there could be more chips and less onions rings on the meal but all in all was nice.
