Established in 1559 and consecrated in 1603, Cathedral of Bom Jesus is a masterful specimen of the brilliant engineering artistry of the Portuguese. The intricately carved gateways, ornate interiors and artistic wooden altars of this shrine have withstood the test of time. The richly carved entrance to the south, with the elevated façade and lofty ceiling, is embellished with the aesthetically carved statues of six saints. Echoing the ethos of traditional Roman art and architecture, the church dedicated to Bom Jesus draws both, tourists and pilgrims, in large numbers. By Road:- Daman is easily accessible by road and is connected to some of the major cities nearby with a well-maintained system of roadways. Vapi, at a distance of 12 km, lies on the Mumbai – Ahmedabad National Highway No. 8 and is easily connected to Daman by road. The town is 170 km from Mumbai, 360 km from Ahmedabad, 768 km from Diu, 110 km from Surat and 300 km from Vadodara.

The church is located inside the Moti Daman Fort. Presently it's almost in ruins from outside. There are two big bells on the top of church. Old architecture a relic. Prayers are Beautiful statues inside but photography was not allowed inside.

The church had a welcoming atmosphere, and the members were friendly and accommodating. The worship service was uplifting, featuring a blend of traditional and contemporary music that appealed to a wide range of preferences. The sermon was engaging, thought-provoking, and relevant to everyday life. The facilities were well-maintained, providing a comfortable environment for worship. Although I didn't have the opportunity to engage in their community activities, the church seemed to have a strong sense of fellowship and a focus on outreach.

Stunning church! can't believe it's 400 years old and still is a great shape. Not sure if any local guides would have been able to spell out the history of the church, but we thoroughly enjoyed the architecture and the ambience. No photos allowed inside the church, so you have to see it to truly admire the beauty of the place.

Couldn't see the mass at designated times since Fr Agnel novena was going on and hence mass timings were changed... For 2nd time now we had to be content seeing the structure from outside and haven't been able to enter the church at all.... Earlier was just after Covid times...

Built by Portuguese in the year 1603, this church is one of the oldest church in India. Once you step in, the silence around this church will transport you to a different world. There is so much of history around this church. One can spend hours admiring the architecture and the interior of this church. A must visit place in Daman.

Located inside the Moti Daman Fort area and is easily locatable. There are ample place to park the vehicle in and around the church, though during Mass it can be filled to capacity. The church was completed in 1603 and is a masterpiece of intricate design across the door and the altar. There are 5 churches which should be seen too if you are in Daman and the list is available inside the church premises. Exquisite Roman style architecture is evident and brilliant engineering artistry of the Portuguese is demonstrated. The main feature of the church is its painted an gilt wooden altar reredos and pulpit. The richly carved main south door with the elevated facade, lofty ceiling, embellished with the statues of six saints are aesthetic and pleasing. There is a board stating Photography is prohibited inside the church premises though pictures taken with mobile phone are allowed. However, would request to seek permission before going on a rampage with your phone

Best Portuguese architectural church at Daman ! Excellent finishing and historical place to visit. Located in prominent Moti Daman fort area, it gives a glimpse into history and how it blends with the local customs. Good to visit during Christmas time (just before 25 Dec) to watch the processing. Marvelous piece and gift from Portuguese to India !

Church is almost in ruins from outside. Located inside the Daman fort. Mini Goa colour walls arenext to it. Old architecture a relic. It appeared that prayers do take inside as tapestry was laid. Beautiful statues inside but photography was not allowed.

Built by the Franciscan friars who arrived in Daman in the mid-16th century, Bom Jesus Church 🏰 was dedicated to Bom Jesus, meaning "Good Jesus" in Portuguese. The church's construction was completed in 1603 AD 🏁, and it has stood as one of the oldest and most significant churches in Daman since then. The church's architecture is a beautiful blend of Baroque, Gothic and Mannerist styles, with intricate paintings 🎨, sculptures 🗿, and carvings 🪵 adorning the interior. Over the years, the church has undergone several renovations and restorations to preserve its beauty and historical significance. The Daman Municipal Corporation, Indian Government, and local communities have played a crucial role in maintaining and preserving the church 🙌. Their efforts have ensured that Bom Jesus Church remains an important religious center 🛐 and a popular tourist attraction 🌟 in the region. Overall, Bom Jesus Church is an excellent representation of the cultural heritage of Daman. Its historical significance and stunning architecture make it a must-visit attraction for anyone interested in history and architecture 🤩.

Friends to be very clear now a days Google is best to give information, distance. But what I will give you all a important fact is that take a route from jampore beach towards jetty garden just before the garden you will come across a passage to moto daman fort it's called house of bockage. Here you can find Bom Jesus church with Rosario church. You can feel as if you are in French colonies, Portugal ancient buildings. Domominican monastery is there. Although all the colonies are acquired by government office. Library, court, post office, hospitals etc. Both the church are crafted with wood. Very very old. Posted the Photos of mass timing and feast too. On the other side through bockage you can get entry to the moti daman fort.

Very nice place to know about. Not sure if the Opening timings has changed or not after the Lockdown. As I have noticed visiting time is 6am to 8am, so plan accordingly otherwise you have to see the Church from outside 😁

It is maintained by archeology dept. During war the bomb has been kept in church so it's one of the ancient/historical places to visit. As it is located in the fort, the whole area is called fort area. A garden with beautiful flowers are there in order to attract tourists. Some construction work is still going on in order to develop the garden.

We walked around the Moti Daman area & found the Bom Jesus Church. The doorway with the elevated facade, richly decorated interior, lofty ceiling, carved & gilded alter, embellished with six saints' statues - what was there to not find attractive?
