Dambulla International Cricket Stadium is the newest cricket venue in Sri Lanka. The Stadium is situated in the North Central Province, close to Dambulla, an agricultural trading town also famous for its ancient UNESCO protected Buddhist Cave Temples which date back to 85 B.C. Built in a stunning location, looking out over the Dambulla Tank (reservoir) and the Dambulla Rock, the 30,000-seater stadium was constructed in just 167 days with the inaugural one-day international match being played between Sri Lanka and England in March 2000.

One of the biggest cricket stadiums in Sri Lanka located at Dambulla. I have been here to watch Sri Lanka Vs India 01st ODI Series. One big stadium with VIP Box seat facilities. Very good parking space too.

The Stadium is situated in the Central Province, close to Dambulla on a 60-acre (240,000 m²) site leased from the Rangiri Dambulla Temple, is the first and only International cricket ground in dry zone of Sri Lanka. The stadium is built overlooking the Dambulla Tank (reservoir) and the Dambulla Rock. The ground Situated in the dry zone, the original rationale behind the project was that it provided Sri Lanka with the potential to host one-day matches throughout the year. Construction was funded by the Board of Control for Cricket in Sri Lanka (BCCSL) and championed by the then BCCSL President, Thilanga Sumathipala. Construction took only 167 days. After construction and the inaugural match it sat idle due to complications with the lease and the contractors. International cricket finally returned in May 2003, the venue staging all seven matches of the tournament because of monsoon rains in the south. The pitch is bowler friendly. Seamers benefit in the morning because of the high water table and heavy sweating. Spinners benefit in the afternoon when the pitch can crumble. 🏟️ Rangiri Dambulla International Cricket Stadium is the first and only international cricket ground in the dry zone of Sri Lanka. Situated close to Dambulla, it offers a seating capacity of 16,800 and is located on a 60-acre site leased from the Rangiri Dambulla Temple. It's truly an outstanding place to enjoy cricket, with warm and sunny conditions typically expected and lush green outfields surrounding the stadium. For the best view of the action, the Grand Stand L3 is recommended. 🏏 The grandstand L3 provides an excellent view of the middle, ensuring a great viewing experience for spectators. During my visit to the stadium for the last ODI match of the 2016 Australia tour of Sri Lanka, I had the opportunity to witness TM Dilshan's farewell innings. 👀Dilshan, who scored 42 runs in that match, received a heartfelt dedication from skipper Angelo Mathews. It was a memorable moment. 📸 The following photos were taken during that match, serving as a memorable resource capturing the experience at Rangiri Dambulla International Cricket Stadium. It's incredible how photographs can preserve the special moments and allow us to relive them in the future. 🚗 The parking area is spacious, and I suggest bringing your own food instead of purchasing from inside the stadium, as the prices can be high. Additionally, it's a good idea to have an umbrella or a raincoat with you to stay protected during heavy rain. 🚮 Lastly, let's remember to take back whatever we bring with us and keep the stadium clean. Respecting the environment is crucial for preserving this wonderful sporting venue. ✅ If you found this review helpful, please mark it as such to encourage more elaborate reviews that help others discover and enjoy experiences at Rangiri Dambulla International Cricket Stadium!
