The Kandalama Reservoir (also erroneously known as the Kandalama Lake) is a reservoir in Kandalama, Sri Lanka. The reservoir is created by the 21 m (69 ft) high and 1,600 m (5,200 ft) wide Kandalama Dam. Water from the dam is used for cultivation purposes in the region, extending up to Kekirawa. The tank was created by constructing a dam across one of the main tributaries of Kala Wewa - the Mirisgoniya River. During 1952 to 1957, the tank was rehabilitated by Department of Irrigation of Sri Lanka. The reservoir and hotel is situated with the Kaludiya Pokuna Forest archeological site. There are many hotels and guest houses located within the area of Kandalama tank. Local people bath, swim and even wash their clothes from the reservoir. But be carefull, there are some dangerous places for swimming and bathing. Always careful with the warning signs. There is a life guard police post in polpular tourist area of the reservoir.

Lovely lake, worth going if you are in Sigiriya. Pls have in mind that most of the lake does not have place to walk. We walked only on the part close to sigeriya which is road (photos enclosed). Afterwards we went to the hotel with 5 stars on a coffee and came back. The tuktuk took us 4000rupees for ride to the lake and to the hotel with waiting time.

A nice place for a bath. You can even see Sigiriya on the far back of the lake. Somewhat crowded. Litter everywhere around the bank 😥 please do not leave your garbage here. Bring them back with you.
