First I am interested in gems, once I entered I was told only for fair skinned or for foreigners.....my driver was also informed not to bring any locals.....it's pathetic.....please refrain from visiting...you have many more places to buy at the correct price, than these culprits cheat the unknown tourists.....do not ever enter....

Nice video, small museum, they explain everything. You must negociate. The things has prices on it. You should start negociating from 1/4th of the prices and end up paying less than half. In this case good prices. Super good quality and very friendly staff. They give certificates of the gems and articles. Very nice.

Very standard one, at where we can get quality gems with guaranteed certificate, appears to be too costly. The work shop gives us the knowledge how the raw material transforms into bright cutted and polished gem.

One of the regular stop off places for drivers and tours. It's actually well organised with a small interactive exhibit and video on the history and methods of Sri Lankan gem mining. Our guide was knowledgeable and could answer many, if not all, of my budding geologist's questions! There is of course the lead up to the sales floor, with plenty to choose from and a range of prices. It was refreshing that there was no hard sell - we were shown a few different items and left to make (or not make) a choice. All in all a good experience.

WARNING - TOURIST TRAP I bought some gems initially valued at 880€, I managed to get the price down to 440€, when I came back to Europe I checked on an actual regulated and trustworthy jewelry shop and they told me that these gems were not even worth 100€. So, please, don't come to this place if you are a tourist, and if you do, pay 10 times less the price that they are telling you, because I assure you they will try to rip you off.
