Darbhanga Fort is also called Ram Bagh Fort, because it is situated in Rambagh Palace inside the fort. Rambagh campus is surrounded by walls and spreads in about 85 acres of land. But when the construction of the fort was completed on three sides and the wall of the western part was being constructed that India got independence from the British rule. In India, the new government came to power and stopped the princely state and zamindari system. As a result, the semi-constructed wall was built up to the same place and the fort was stopped. The main gate of the fort which is called the Sinhala, but rare scenes from architecture have been scattered. The ditch was constructed around the wall within the fort. It was filled with equal water in the trench. It was done for the protection of the fort and, in fact, the Raj family.

Prior to the formation of the fort, this area was a part of the village named Islampur, which was under the control of Nawab Aliwardi Khan of Murshidabad State. Afterwards, it came under the control of the progeny of Maharaja of Darbhanga, Shri Kameshwar Singh. After this, in 1930, when Maharaja Kameshwar Singh decided to build a fort here like other forts of India, the Muslim majority population here settled in places like Shivdhara, Alinagar, Laheriyasarai, Chakodohara with compensation of land. In the memory of this historic moment, the construction of Darbhanga Raj Fort was started in 1934. A company of Calcutta was contracted to build the fort. The walls of the fort are constructed of red bricks. Its wall is one kilometer long and it is 500-metre (1,600 ft). The wall of the fort was quite thick. The watchtower and guard house were built in the upper part of the wall.

Very cool architecture; peaceful surrounding and a majestic feeling is observed when one stands there. It is one of the most important historical structures in Darbhanga. Moreover, it is one of the two largest forts in Asia. Its extensions could be found kilometers further. It is indeed an icon of royal, intelligent construction, a masterpiece of engineering, and a fantastic hangout....

Beautiful place on the whole. The vast area of the fort shows how prospered those times were in terms of Mithila architecture. The walls aren't preserved well, otherwise it would have been in the league of Delhi/Agra forts. Picturesque greenery and water bodies around further add to it. Most of the area inside the fort is either abandoned or sold to public. The high walls along with the lake inside resemble those in Chittorgarh's Gaumukh. Easily reachable by autorickshaw. University attracts more visitors. No doubt the Hawk-eye angle of the fort is awesome. Not recommended to visit during rainy season. Cleanliness and drainage isn't maintained well here. Good to have auch places of historical importance in Bihar. Nearly 2.5km from the railway station, you won't find any restaurants nearby.

It’s a national heritage site . But authorities are not at all worried about the condition of the palace . It can become a place of national importance which can attract large number of tourists from all over the country , but managed very poorly . Government should give it some attention and revive the palace for promoting tourism in Darbhanga. It is very near to railway station and bus stand .

darbhanga fort is no more only walls and doors are left after so many year. the whole premises of fort is converted into a residential area and whatever part is remaining their is left to be destroyed by the time. the bihar government and central government has not done there done to protect such a famous and beautiful fort. I have imagined this fort when it was built and it look beautiful, the gates, various ponds all around, temples are few remaining parta of fort

It’s made like Red Fort in Delhi , but very poorly maintained. Roads are so poor that I have added a photo of roads. It’s situated near Lalit Narayan Mithila university and rambag palace but if well maintained it can become an identity of Darbhanga.

The entrance and lake besides will take you to forts of Rajasthan, it's beautiful. But at the same time it is not maintained and only a portion is open for visitor. It has great potential to be a beautiful destination for visitors all around Mithila.

Darbhanga Raj, also known as Raj Darbhanga and the Khandwala dynasty, were a Maithil dynasty of zamindars and the rulers of territories, not all contiguous, that are part of the Mithila region of the Indian subcontinent. The rulers of Raj Darbhanga were Maithil Brahminsand their seat in the town of Darbhanga became the core of the Mithila region as the rulers were patrons of Maithil culture and the Maithili language. The dynasty emerged after the fall of the Oiniwar Dynasty. The Khandaval dynasty was one of many Brahmin dynasties to rule in India, doing so in the Mithila/Tirhut region from the time of the Mughal emperor Akbar until the 1960s. They became known as the Raj Darbhanga. The extent of their lands, which were not contiguous, varied over time, and their area of ownership was smaller than the area that they were granted under sanad arrangements. A particularly significant reduction occurred when the influence of the British Raj caused them to lose control of the territories that were in Nepal but, nonetheless, their holdings were considerable. One estimate suggests that when their rule came to an end, the territories comprised around 6,200 square kilometres (2,400 sq mi), with around 4500 villages. Darbhanga has several palaces that were built during the Darbhanga Raj era. They include Nargona Palace, which was constructed after the 1934 Nepal–Bihar earthquake and has since been donated to Lalit Narayan Mithila University, and Lakshmivilas Palace. which was severely damaged in the 1934 earthquake, rebuilt and later donated to Kameshwar Singh Darbhanga Sanskrit University. The origin of the royal family of Darbhanga is traced to a grant of the Sarkar of Tirhut to Mahesh Thakur by Akbar. The supporters of the theory that Raj Darbhanga was a kingdom argue that it was held by privy council, that the rulership was a hereditary one with succession governed by primogeniture. The supporters argue that by the end of the 18th century, the Sarkar of Tirhut was practically an independent kingdom until the conquest of Bengal and Bihar by the British. The opponents of the theory argue that Raj Darbhanga was never a kingdom but rather a zamindari with all the trappings of princely state. The rulers of Raj Darbhanga were the largest landowners in India, and thus were called Raja, and later Maharaja and Maharajadhiraja. They were given the status of ruling prince.Further, after conquest of Bengal and Bihar, the British Raj initiated the Permanent Settlement, and the Raja of Darbhanga was recognised only as a Zamindar.[citation needed] Raj Darbhanga also paid yearly lagan (land tax) to old existing Zamindar of Darbhanga, Kachari at Khan Sahib ki deaorhi.

This could be really nice if it was taken care but everyone will blame each other for the downfall. By encouraging society mindset to preserve our history is the only way to make it possible.

There is nothing to see here just the fort. In the inside there is a residential complex. Yes you won't find anything interesting here. Just the fort itself. I don't know why people compare it with the red fort of delhi

This wall is very strong. Inside this most of land is sell for general people . So it's full of crowded.

It’s a nice place to visit as it if one kind of fort where you can see people living inside. Here you will find that much of the land is given to university but still, it’s a nice place which add extra edge to the history of Darbhanga, Bihar.

(Translated by Google) The Darbhanga Fort is also known as the Rama Bagh Fort, as it is located in the Rambagh Palace inside the fort. The Rambagh complex is surrounded by walls and is spread over about 85 acres of land. But when the fort was completed on three sides and the western side wall was being constructed that India got independence from British rule. In India, the new government came to power and closed the princely and zamindari system. As a result, the semi-built wall was built in the same place and the fort was barred.
