Oozes elegance and is a museum in itself. Excellent view from suit rooms. Sprawling lawns, beautifully landscaped gardens with elegant garden furnitures and the main palace with age old artefacts from around the world complement each other. Food items in offer is limited but good. I have stayed in many such properties but as an experience I will keep this property right after The Peterhoff Shimla.

My stay at Rani Kothi Residency in Darjeeling was a truly disappointing experience. The issues began with the sheets, which were clearly not cleaned or fresh. The lack of maintenance was evident throughout the property, with tall grass and a general lack of upkeep, making it difficult to enjoy a leisurely stroll. The rooms themselves were far from pleasant, emitting unpleasant odours. The bathroom was nothing short of atrocious, and the absence of proper ventilation only added to the discomfort. One major concern was the lack of security. Both the main gate of the Rani Kothi and the building gate were left wide open at all times, making it a potential safety hazard. This became even more problematic when street dogs, who seemed territorial, approached the building, putting the safety of my pet at risk. The state of cleanliness was alarming, especially when it came to the carpets. It was evident that they hadn’t been cleaned in ages. This added to the overall unpleasantness of the stay. The kitchen was also in an unacceptable state. The poor condition made it difficult to feel comfortable using any of the facilities. Despite these shortcomings, I must mention that the staff members were hospitable and tried their best to assist. However, their efforts couldn’t compensate for the numerous issues that plagued the property. Additionally, the terrible narrow approach road leading to the homestay was another inconvenience that added to the overall frustration. The fact that the hotel is situated at a much lower altitude was a disappointment. Darjeeling is known for its scenic beauty and breathtaking views, but unfortunately, the location of Rani Kothi Residency didn’t offer the same level of natural beauty and panoramic vistas that one would expect from a stay in the region. I couldn’t bear to stay longer than a night due to the unsatisfactory conditions. I sincerely hope that improvements are made to address the cleanliness, maintenance, security, and overall comfort of the establishment.

This place is a gem... if you are planning a leisure trip I would recommend atleast a day stay at this place... the rooms are spacious and has beautiful view.. the twin villa is the biggest room with 2 bedrooms, 2 washrooms , a dining hall and a corridor. Other rooms are pretty big too.. But do note that this place is downhill and the road leading to the same is very very steep and narrow. Its far from mall. But if you are a big group this is a place you should not miss. Food is just average, but at this price it's a steal. Will definitely visit again.

Nice hospitable place, with courteous and helpful staff. Food is excellent. Bit out of the way, low on maintenance, and unavailability of staff before 7:00 am are a bit damper for a heritage property.

My recent stay at Rani Kothi Residency was a disappointing and distressing experience. Despite the initial allure of a beautiful heritage property, the reality of the situation quickly became apparent. Several concerning issues marred my stay, making it impossible for me to recommend this place to others. Could not stay even for 24 hrs. First and foremost, the presence of a backyard breeding operation for German Shepherd Dogs (GSDs) was deeply distressing. It was disheartening to witness one male, one female, and a puppy being kept in terrible and unclean conditions in the backyard. The well-being and welfare of these animals appeared to be severely neglected, which is both ethically unacceptable and distressing for any animal lover. Furthermore, the lack of security at Rani Kothi Residency was concerning. A sense of safety and protection is vital for any guest, but unfortunately, it was noticeably absent during my stay. This oversight left me feeling uneasy and vulnerable throughout my time at the property. Additionally, the maintenance of the facilities left much to be desired. The geyser, a basic necessity for a comfortable stay, was non-functional for the majority of my visit. This inconvenience made it extremely difficult to have a warm and enjoyable stay, especially during colder weather. Moreover, the stench and uncleanliness of the floors , blankets and carpets were pervasive, creating an uncomfortable and unsanitary environment. It is truly disheartening to see a property with such potential for charm and elegance reduced to a state of neglect and decay. Rani Kothi Residency has clearly fallen far from its former glory, and the current condition of the property does not live up to the expectations of its guests.

This place has a calm and serene ambience with a splash of vintage ethnicity. We loved and enjoyed this place a lot. But the location is such, you need your own vehicle to reach Darjeeling and to roam around

We stayed in the villa category consisting of two very large bedrooms, a living cum dining area and entrance lobby. Both bedrooms had attached bathrooms and kitchenette. Entire area was wooden floored and tastefully decorated with artefacts collected by the erstwhile royal family. Inverter backup was available. The kitchen staff and other staff attended to our needs quite warmly. Fresh food was served on prior order. We wanted a place close to nature, away from the din and bustle of a tourist destination at its peak season. This fit the bill perfectly. We had a super relaxing 6 days. It's a pet friendly place with car parking. Also a book shelf stocked with quite a few rare books amazed us immensely. Would have loved to read all of them! Enjoyed some local music by the boys too.

This place is a 250 years old Heritage property in Darjeeling. It is a property belonging to the ancestors of the Maharaja of Bardhaman. Many remarkable personalities had stayed here once including Gandhiji, Swami Vivekananda and Dalai Lama to name some. It was wonderful staying there though services can improve a bit. Description plates must be there to let visitors know about the history of the place. Another problem is their payment system, they don't accept cards, as they don't have card swiping machine.

This was a quiet getaway away from the busy mall area . Food and hospitality was awesome . Might be a bit far from city centre for some people but the ambience has a lot of history to soak in . This is a pre and post colonial time stamped heritage hotel . Good for trekking and bird watching too .

The location of the property for scenic beauty is awasome. The hospitality are very poor.Staff service was really worst & they seriously lack of basic traning in the sector of hospitality. Manager ( Mr. Chhetri) was an ill -behaved person. No mannerism maintained by the staffs. Toilets needs an upgradations too. Regarding payments they have no card swipe machines which was not indicated in their website.

Amazing place with amazing staff. The place is amidst nature where you can get a 360 degree view of the entire city with royal rooms. The staff like Prewan is very responsive and helpful.

Scenarios are very good. The view of Kanchenjunga is amazing. Rooms are precious and very good. Service, food quality and all people attached with this hotel are very good. If someone wants to observe the different appearance of Kanchenjunga he / she can stay here.

It is an old heritage property but not well maintained. The rooms are huge but the beds and mattresses are very uncomfortable. Toilets need an upgrade too

Amazing experience. If you are looking for a relaxing trip with homely warmth and service, this is the place. Situated amongst nature with lots of space for idling around.

This was an unpleasant experience. The staff is rude and they don’t have proper beds or heating. Calling it a palace is a joke - it’s closer to a 2 star lodge. It’s full of dust and broken furniture. Finally, they cheat the booking agencies by asking us to cancel and deduct the tax. Overall, unethical and unpleasant

The ultimate retro luxury experience in Darjeeling. Rooms are HUGE and the place is amazing. If you can afford the expense, please try out the royal living experience. Suggestion- Please try to improve on the kitchen part.
