The gin joint is a very classic restaurant. I had the chicken cordon blue which was quite good. It was a bit noisy but that could have been because it was Friday night. Our server was alright our busboy was lacking. Are table got a little crowded with unclear dishes. But again this could have been because it was Friday night. The food was excellent.

While visiting Decatur, Illinois, I had the pleasure of dining at The Gin Mill—a hidden gem that balances warm ambiance, attentive service, and a bold, satisfying menu. We began with the fried calamari, delicately crisped and served with a sweet chili sauce that offered just the right touch of tangy and sweetness. It was easily one of the best starters I’ve had in recent memory—fresh, flavorful, and addictively good. For the main course, I chose the Delmonico Ribeye steak, paired with roasted Brussels sprouts. The steak was outstanding—exceptionally tender and generously coated in rich cowboy butter, which added a decadent, smoky depth. It was the kind of steak you find yourself thinking about days later. The house salad was the only minor misstep. While the balsamic vinaigrette was well-balanced, the red onions overwhelmed the dish, and the croutons, unfortunately, were overdone. It was my husband and I's 5 year anniversary. We couldn't really go anywhere because of our obligations so we just settled for a nice dinner at a restaurant I'd been wanting to go to for a while. Everything was amazing from the appetizers to my drink 🍸. Our waitress was very good and we enjoyed ourselves thoroughly 😀 😊 ❤️
