We had a blast. Coming here on a Tuesday was a great idea. The entry price is great. There's a impressive free public playground to the left of the zoo entrance.

Good for what you’re gonna get in central Illinois. Not a big zoo, but still nice and has your standard zoo animals (penguin, red pandas, tortoise, camel, cheetah, monkeys, wallaby, birds, etc etc). They have a train ride which isn’t cheap or long, but is fun. Also for the kiddos, there’s a big playground and ability to reserve an area for parties and an “animal experience” (touch a snake, lizard thing, guinea pig, hedge hog thing, etc.)

Great sized park for little kids. My 3 year old can walk the whole thing all by himself! If you have time (you only need maybe an hour). It's a must stop for those who enjoy Zoos!

Boo at the zoo was so fun! Nice treats for kids of all ages! The haunted train ride was spooky but not too frightening for a 2 year old! Not a lot of animals could be seen since it was so dark, but it was fun just the same! The workers really outdid themselves with all the pumpkins and lights and decorations!

I live in Champaign area and typically go to Bloomington Zoo. I heard good things about the Decatur zoo and it was a great experience. Kids loved the carousel and choo choo train rides. Pack a sack lunch and you can eat spend a couple hours here. They have a massive playground just outside my kids played on for a while.

Such a fun little zoo. Easy to do with little kids, and free days during the summer are a great bonus.

I usually go when they have free Thursdays. It's usually busy, but not overly crowded. The penguins are popular.

We love this zoo! There are alot of great animals, and the zoo is very well kept. My daughter really loved the penguins and the zebras and my son loved the indoor building of all the snakes and bugs. There is a cute carousel that sits in the center, a great playground, and their snack bar prices are very reasonable. Definitely a place to check out if you are in the area.

Zoo was really small, but it was kept up well. Kids loved it. They almost have a little bit of everything. Some days they have free admission. Just pay for the train ride and carasoul! Favorite part was petting the goats!

We've been here multiple times and it's a great zoo! It's small, but well maintained and updated. It is also AZA (Association of Zoos and Aquariums) approved, which means the standard of care for all the animals meets rigorous evaluations! They participate in conservation research, too. There is a free petting zoo with friendly goats, a large playground, a carousel of endangered animals, and a train that runs around the facility. Definitely recommend visiting and spending some time here!

Visited this zoo with family. It’s a small zoo but very clean and beautiful. Don’t miss the train ride it lasts for 5 minutes but kids will love it. People who work in zoo are very friendly and nice. Only reason for 4 star is because of less number of animals. No complaints! 👍 Pros: * huge parking space * best play area for kids (it’s free) * food inside zoo is good and it’s cheap. * miniature train ride * carousel * Rest rooms were very clean * Sanitizers and hand Washing stations you will find almost everywhere in zoo which was highly appreciated. Cons: * Small zoo. Note: Plan to visit either in morning or evening. If you visit in noon animals will be sleepy 😄

My family and I visited the zoo this past memorial day and we had fun. In the past, we were able to purchase tickets online, but this time we weren't able to buy the tickets ahead of time. When we arrived at the zoo, the parking lot was full, but there wasn't a line to buy tickets. We rode the train before walking around, and this gave us the opportunity to see more sites and animals. The only downside was that we couldn't see some of the animals due to health and safety reasons. Still, we have a good time and I would recommend this zoo to others.

Family and I were visiting relatives in Illinois and we were pleasantly surprised on the animals at the Zoo! Loved every exhibit and especially when we got to pet and feed the goats while we were there. So much fun & every Thursday during Summer 2023 the admission is FREE FOR EVERYONE! 🐼🐨 Highly recommend if you are in the area!

A nice, small zoo conveniently located in Decatur near the lake. The people who work in the zoo are super friendly and knowledgeable. They are always answering guest questions and helping to educate. The zoo is the perfect size to take toddlers for a fun day. There's a playground, carousel, train, concession stand, plenty of benches and tables, a gift shop and a petting zoo. I wish there was a way to know what wasn't available to be seen before going in. We missed the bird, reptile house and sloth this trip.

Only gave a 4 star because they weren't open. But, looks amazing and entertaining. Appeared to have a good variety of species too. :) Prices were very affordable!!!

We had such a great afternoon at the zoo! The girls loved the petting zoo and would have gladly spent our entire visit with the baby goats! Don't forget to make time for the playground! So fun!

Had so much fun at the zoo! It wasn't busy at all and most of the animals were out so we could see them. Took us about 1.5 hours to go through. There is a nice playground right outside as well!

  • 5/5 McKenzie N. 5 years ago on Google
It's a decent zoo for how small it is. I had a great time at the petting zoo with the goats and the other animals in the seemed to be fairly active. I went on a day where the zoo was free and had a good time with family. I will say seeing the cheetahs was a real treat we had gone to several zoos in the area and they never seem to be out at the other zoos.

A great smaller zoo. The staff were kind and attentive. Make sure to take the train ride with the kiddos for a quick tour of the zoo. The exhibits are fairly small but interesting. Count on spending at least two hours here with the family.

Great little zoo. Low cost, friendly employees, petting zoo with the cutest goats and furry hog. They have warm weather penguins, train rides, carosel and cheap snacks at the snack shop. They take cash and cards. My favorite zoo in central Illinois!

We went there for Mother's Day and Mothers get in for free. I thought that was nice of them to offer that. The animals were well taken care of. I'll go again.

Scovill Zoo was a very fun zoo to visit. It was very well kept and had a great selection of animals for the size! The train ride was very fun and the conductor was very friendly. Would highly recommend!

  • 5/5 Adam S. 9 months ago on Google
Stopped by the Chevy museum & this place was like 1 mile away. Good parking in a paved lot. No lines to get in to pay. The whole park can be walked with ease. All of the animals are up close. Easy to get great pics! The trip didn't take very long to see everything. I'd say we were out in an hour. That also tells you that you won't find alot of the large animals there. But it was still worth the visit. They have a small gift shop & an eatery to hold you over. There is also a playground for the kids to play on. Nice place if your looking for a quick visit.

We like to come when it's free on Thursdays and pay for the train and carousel rides and food. The children love the playground before and after visiting the zoo.

For a small town zoo, Scoville does a great job! Not only do they have a nice public facility with great animal exhibits, they also do a lot for the community with outreach to the schools. My family loves coming here!

I have been to this Zoo several times and have to admit it always surprises me how it is always improving. Love yhe penguins, howler monkeys, and cheetahs. The grounds around it are always quite beautiful as the childrens' museum, zoo railroad, play ground, and garden have been redone. The walk with the artwork and sculptures is great as well. Nice job Decatur!

  • 5/5 Brittney R. 3 years ago on Google
The grounds are beautiful and well maintained. I love the addition of the sculpture garden. The playground is top notch, with special needs swings. The zoo it's self is a family favorite.

  • 5/5 Andrew T. 3 years ago on Google
Love the reservations this year. Nothing beats walking in rather to having to stand in a line for an hour or more. If this make attendance numbers drop I would happily pay twice amount to support it.

Wonderful place for kids to see animals outside. A snack area in the zoo has treats & drinks. There is a petting zoo area also. In addition to the Zoo sights, a carousel ride, train ride and a large playground for various aged kids were available. We spent a couple of hours on the first trip. Hope to see & do more on the next trip.

Everything is outside, petting zoo is open, and masks are not required at this moment. The train is not running right now, but there is still lots of shade. Penguin exhibit is usually a favorite for small children, as is the petting zoo. The place was clean as it could be after a storm, but there was no trash laying around. Gift shop is also open, and you are able to buy entry through the gift shop.
