Dedham Midway Restaurant

Restaurant

🫤 1 star because the staff were great and a additional star for the calamari being delicious. The silverware and area were dirty and I understand the test if time but I never complain about things needing to be cleaner like I have here. The drinks were limited not only by the menu but by the drinks... People often mention staff, great, delicious, friendly, time, order, good, drink, service, Great,

On 4/3 I ordered take out and asked for 3 steak tip Caesar salads and a midway sampler at 4:30 pm I picked up my order at 5:00 and had a glass of wine at the bar while waiting at 5:00 pm. I brought my order home for my family at about 5:30 pm. I noticed at 6:00 pm after I walked my dog and got settled that my order was incorrect. I thought I was missing the midway sampler so I called and they put me on hold come to find out I was missing the steak tip salad which I realized after they picked up after having me on hold. He completely dismissed me the owner who I called back an would only give me a first name “Fred” and said he could not give me the last name. He told me he put the bag together and it was correct and I’m going back and fourth on my order when I was just reading what was on the packaging. And I was at the bar a cook had brought the order out to me personally. He dismissed me again and hung up on me. Completely unprofessional I worked as a waitress for 8 years and was taught the customer “was always right” and to show hospitality and now I’m a nurse of 8 years I don’t need anything free which is what I told him. We give them a lot of business as well as all my family and friends. And this is truly disappointing and disrespectful to be hung up on and tell me quote on quote “that I am lying”. I honestly wouldn’t recommend this restaurant that has been around a long time to anyone. After working two full time jobs I don’t need this I am truly disappointed and as I told the manager “Fred” I am not one to complain.

1 star because the staff were great and a additional star for the calamari being delicious. The silverware and area were dirty and I understand the test if time but I never complain about things needing to be cleaner like I have here. The drinks were limited not only by the menu but by the drinks available behind the bar. I wouldn't order any drinks off the menu and I usually grab a pair or more or expresso martini's and taste from all over I actually opted against it here. They just didn't taste great. The calamari was delicious and fresh and so lightly crusted and still held together I would go as far to say it was cooked perfectly. The old fashioned seafood chowder was more of a watered down soup the fried shrimp plate was cooked good and for the clam strips where so so. I won't come back here just came to give the place my review and opinion while I was in the area.

I have been here many times as I have established myself as a local the past 8 years. Today I was pretty disappointed in the quality of my dish. Chicken Picatta. The sauce is thickened with something that just did not taste right. The dish is supposed to be cooked with capers and sliced lemon in a pan,the chicken is supposed to be dredged in flour so the brown bits add the flavor and thickness to the lemony wine sauce. It was tiny bland chicken pieces. the roasted peppers are that from a Jar, the asparagus was lackluster. I also ordered a watermelon mojito made with malibu watermelon liquor. The drink was not great and made incorrectly. Firstly it tasted as malibu coconut was used instead, there wasn't enough mint and it wasn't muddled for the oils of the mint to release their flavor. The liquor was poured last in the drink, as you could taste that floating on top. I had to muddle the mint with my fingers and add a splash of my kids raspberry lime Rickey to make it a palatable drink, by this point all the ice had meted with me trying to remedy my own drink. While the server was nice and friendly; the service was inattentive and rushed. If the server had come to our table to check on things, I could have politely explained my drink situation, so I could get something else. Or to get another round of rolls, or ask for grated cheese for my meal to make that also a little more palatable. My daughter got an crabcake blt, which in essence sounds ambitious, creative and tasty. I was proud of her for ordering something a little different. The crab cake was indeed homemade, but hard to identify crab meat. it was more flat and soggy. It did not have those crispy edges when fried to perfection in a pan with butter. Sigh, also lackluster. While the meals and my drink proved disappointing, this is me not saying I shall never eat at this establishment again. This is me saying, I'll stick to more typical bar type fare, burgers and such until midway can hone in on these dishes and improve upon them. I still tipped our server graciously and above and beyond as it's hard to keep good staff lately

The meals were so bad we couldn't even eat them. The breading on the chicken parm was soggy and the small bit of sauce tasted like canned tomato paste. There was no other flavor in the dish, and the same can be said for the steak tip dinner. If you don't want to throw your money away (literally), go somewhere else.

Despite having driven by it hundreds of times, we’d never gone in. Finally we did with another couple and our only regret was that we should’ve started coming here years ago. What a step back in time— nothing fancy here about the decor—felt like we were transported to our childhood in the 60s and 70s. Lots of laughter at the huge bar where everyone’s a regular, the smell of charbroiled meat and brown gravy in the air and the sound of a man singing Sinatra, smiling at all the regulars making his way around the bar. What a great, great scene— old Boston at its best. We were lucky to have Donna, the owner, as our server. She was attentive, friendly and passionate, guiding us through the expansive menu. Every server out there, especially the smug ones at those fancy places- yeah, you know who you are- should be required to spend time learning the trade from Donna. A+ to her and the whole staff. Now the food: all the basics are here: burgers, steak tips, pizza, chopped sirloin, swordfish and the execution is spot on and the portions are more than adequate. We had the pork chop and burgers and all were delicious. Based on our unapologetic snooping at the other tables, it was obvious that everything looks and probably tastes as delicious. If you are looking for great service, delicious food cooked with pride that’s is fairly priced and a comfortable, welcoming atmosphere then make your to The Midway. We loved it and will be back next week.

The restaurant website is misleading. It makes it seem like the restaurant is modern and nice when actually it's old, out dated and dark. The staff is pretty inviting, that's the only upside. The food is not great. I would not go back. They really only want you to pay in cash, if you dont there is a fee to pay with a card.

We came to hear the music of Mike Miano all the way from CT and we enjoyed everything about this experience. The restaurant atmosphere is warm and welcoming and the food is down home good! I could listen to Mike and his partner sing for hours and we actually did stay for 5 hours! We all had a great time Would highly recommend this restaurant!

Food is fine, old fashioned but still executed well. Service is good. experienced, friendly staff. I wish they put a warning on the door when there was to be "music bingo" on. There is no way I would have proceeded to eat here if I knew that obnoxious nonsense was going to start halfway through my meal. Who is the target audience for that defending chaos?

Decent food and service. There have been some changes, so it isn't quite the same as it was. Also, pay attention when ordering. Not only have prices increased, they have the audacity to charge these prices for a side of certain vegetables.

Had lunch today after work. Food was very good (turkey club) The kitchen was a bit slow but nothing bad. The reason for the four stars is making people pay extra for using a card. Not really wanted. But all in all pretty good.

Food is delicious! Waitstaff was right on point. The bread and oil with fresh roasted garlic could have been my meal. I just couldn't stop eating it. Love this place

The Grilled Pear and Blue Cheese Salad may be the best salad I've every had in my life. The staff was all very friendly and helpful and the owner, Donna, was constantly on the lookout for what the guests might need. The prices are more than reasonable. Definitely recommend!!

Our mistake last night to have dinner here. Music bingo night. Half deaf! Food was decent. Nothing to rave about. Great hangout for locals. Very friendly and inviting.

Got the lobster ravioli, was amazing. Price for 3 ravioli and 3 shrimp in a white sauce was expensive. But it was delicious.

We really enjoy the Midway. The food is fresh off the grill and yummy. I highly recommend anything with the fries. The eggroll appetizer is not too spicy and oh so tasty. The garlic bread was fresh. Outstanding food and friendly service. Also, the best way to fill some of the seats left empty due to social distancing!
