Went here for birthday celebrations, always a good idea to book. lots of cool decor to look at, the bar staff are very engaging and know their stuff. Split over 3 floors so you get a great view of the place. The hanging kebabs are sooo tasty and the chips are 2 die 4, put them under the kebab and all the juicies run onto them. Plenty of cocktails and ales to choose from. The contactless payment was a bit confusing but between the waitress and me we managed it.

We ate late on a Saturday night. They had live music so it was quite loud. The service was super friendly and smiley. We had a sharing platter and pie of the day (Shepherds pie) all was super good- including the shepherds pie quick I was dubious about. The sharing platter had 1 component missing but we were allowed to substitute with another item- great service.

This was a must-stop in Chester. I highly recommend this place for Sunday roast or just a simple cocktail and a great time. Design, warm welcoming and attention to details 10/10. You can see that the place is highly customer based focused until the last minute and requests feedback to get even better. Our first time in Chester and Botanist and not the last. Well done, team.

Absolutely lovely place to come for a drink or food . Really good cocktails and plenty other drinks on offer . My only comment would be the food menu could be a bit better but what we had was really nice , just make sure if you have the skewers all the sauce drops down as I didn't notice till I'd ate mine there was a blockage , bit annoying cus the sauce was really nice but really nice place , very attentive staff

Can't believe I've not been here before! Such a quirky little place. Each member of staff were so welcoming upon arrival. Booking system was easy to use. The cocktails were amazing! And as for the food...WOW!! We had 2 alcoholic drinks, 2 hanging kebabs and a side of haloumi fries and the bill was just over £50. Great value for the quality of food!! We will definatly be visiting again. I also had a lovely surprise to have recieved a complimentary drink as my husband mentioned to one of the staff it was my birthday. Thanks Botanist ❤️

We roamed for a place to eat, and ended up going to the Botanist, asked for a table and were booked in for 20:00 - even though there was availability prior. Being served took a while considering the bar was empty and there was a group making cocktails, nice brunette male with a man bun served us. The drinks were fantastic. Following this, we were showed to our table swiftly. Brought water also. However, had to set table ourself. My starter was the flatbread, which was soft but a bit too flaky/crumbly. My partner had the wings. Our mains arrived and they were fantastic. My partner was happy with his steak and chips. I opted for the pasta. It was lovely but drowned in sauce which made the dish in itself difficult to eat. For dessert I had mint chocolate ice cream which was so icy, it seemed low quality. My partner had the cookie dough and was very happy. Service from the girl with black hair in space buns and face tattoos was lovely - we were tempted to ask for advice on how she kept her tattoos so fresh and vivid. However there was a couple who had a dog with them that occupied the table opposite ours. Said waitress spent excess amounts of time fussing their dog but didn’t wash her hands where it was visible, I didn’t see a faucet nearby though so fair enough if she washed them in kitchen before service. It just seemed unhygienic to the visible eye and some people do get worried about this type of thing due to allergies. Excluding this lady, girl with blue hair seemed remotely snotty. An alternate brunette girl was clearly rushed off her feet running round doing orders and the blue haired girl attempted to palm drinks off on go the brunette, and rolled her eyes when she had to serve said drinks as the brunette woman was occupied. Didn’t appreciate the tone of the staff attitude. It was easy to tell who was passionate about working at such a wonderful place and who wasn’t.

It is a very rustic and cozy restaurant serving some top quality food. The staff was really friendly. We were taken care of by Hannah who was very kind and friendly. We had calamari fries, crispy mushrooms, fish and chips, lamb kofta, Halloumi fries. Everything was delicious and worth every penny. I will definitely visit this place again.

A relaxed day out in chester, we saw this place tucked away down a little ally it was packed we had to wait for a table, so we went for a wander round the cathedral close by . I think service depends on your server. Ours was not the best! Although very friendly, not the fastest, the table next to ours got their food long before us even though we arrived and were seated long before them. That said, food was delicious we had the two courses and a beautifully presented Gin . Very quirky decor

Our 1st visit to Chester. Googled and found this little gem! Wonderful Sunday roast! The calamari is so soft and tender. Lovely peas and prosciutto soup! The dinner was just fantastic 😍

A really pretty place and the food and drinks were nice but the service wasn't very good - our food was brought out separately, my friend ordered the roast and her vegetables came out 10 minutes after the chicken, this was a bit disappointing. We also waited 20 minutes for a drink only to be told it had been forgotten and we'd need to leave in 15 minutes as our reservation was coming to an end! Considering there were only a few other tables when we arrived, it was just a bit disappointing - but our food and drinks were lovely.

Held my 18th birthday party here, and had a great time! The atmosphere was amazing with good background music, and the service by the waitresses were great!! Took 30 friends for a meal, and spent about £500 overall. Individually, the food was quite expensive, but you do get quite a lot for what you've ordered. I do recommend visiting if the menu is your style of food, but if not, I recommend visiting solely for the atmosphere as the inside of the two-floored restaurant was beautiful!

Great place to eat and drink. Lively and good atmosphere. The food was fantastic, I had the crispy chicken burger with loaded fries, and it was full of flavour and 2 big pieces of actual chicken. Good selection of drinks and cocktails. Service was friendly and quick.

What a disappointing experience. We arrived today at 13:30 but Young female at front of the house left us waiting for 1 hour when she told us it will be 30 min. She welcomed us and asked us if was OK for us to wait 30 min. We told her no problem and she suggested to wait at the bar and have some drinks. We ordered and paid the drinks and waited until 14 :00. We gave another extra 10 min and nothing... she passed us so many times and I told my partner let's wait because she saw us if table was ready she will come and tell us. But then we realised it was more than one hour and saw everyone leaving around us and we were the only ones left. We were sitting at the tables in front of the bar. Because it was already 1hour wait partner went to check with her. She said she thought we left the restaurant. Well I gave my name she should come and make sure the table was ready. I don't understand why she didn't see us there were only 3 groups of people in the bar. She passed us more than one time. Then she took us upstairs and I told her we are ready to order (because while I was waiting I checked the food menu) but she left us waiting for another 10 min upstairs . She could have asked one of her colleagues to come and see us asap but no? She left us waiting another 10 min for someone to come and take the order. So we left the restaurant. I came downstairs and said sorry we are leaving. I am pregnant and not going to wait another hour to be served. I believe the food is delicious but front of the house gave us such a horrible experience. The only good thing was the non alcoholic cocktail. The bar was not busy so I really don't understand why she did not come to look for us. We were not hiding, she could see us from the entrance and she passed by our table so many times.

Stopped in while shopping on a Saturday afternoon, we didn't have a booking so had to sit in the bar area which was fine, I have chosen the hallumi kebab with fries and a botanist lemonade which came to about £21, the drink was over £5 alone. The food came quite quickly, and the drink I got while placing my order. Everything was very delicious. My only concerns were portion sizes when it came to the drink it was a narrow glass mostly filled with ice, so I feel the price was very steep for that. Overall, though, I would visit again and enjoyed my time there. Great friendly service from both bar staff and waitresses.

We had a Christmas meal with 6 other friends, their famous kebabs were tasty however the Xmas cocktails were very basic and not worth spending £10-£12 each! The service was good and our waitress was very friendly and efficient

Sadly we didn't have a good experience at this restaurant which is a shame as we've previously really enjoyed The Botanist in other cities. Firstly the service was pretty slow and it even took probably 20 minutes to get drinks (just soda) that we had to ask for multiple times. Secondly, my husband's food was undercooked (lamb hanging kebab). They did bring a replacement when asked but the second was also a little undercooked and they didn't really check back on us to make sure it was ok. Thirdly, the cookie dough I ordered was more like a cake and so I barely had any of it as it wasn't at all what I was expecting. Lastly, the women's bathrooms really needed looking after, two of the stalls were out of order, a further didn't lock and then in the one I was able to use, the toilet wasn't secured to the floor.

Having researched dog friendly places to visit during our stay in Chester, came across this place. Visited on a Thursday night and had dinner in the bar area which is dog friendly. Had a great acoustic guitar player providing entertainment, great atmosphere and the food was excellent. Opted for the sharing kebab which came with 3 hanging tiers of chicken, lamb and prawns. Could have done with extra bread but that was the only downside. Very ornate decor, perfectly in keeping with the Chester vibe. A must go to anyone visiting!

Ordered 2 vegetarian roasts they were so delicious. The pastry is very filling and veg is tasty. Plenty of side veg and gravy too. Starters were lovely; hummus and cauliflower buffalo bites. Can’t comment on dessert as we were too full from the main to order any! We were seated immediately, we booked in advance which I’d recommend as they were busy. Staff attentive. Service was good

Had the Sunday roast which was fantastic, my partner had the vegan option which she really enjoyed. The roast potatoes where superb, possibly the best roast potatoes I’ve had anywhere.

This place is amazing. The food, drinks, service, atmosphere and setting is like no other. Can't wait to do it all again. Highly recommended

Superbly delicious food, excellent service. The girls were lovely and very helpful. So rated them a 5 ☆. Lovely cocktails too. The only thing I didn't like was the hidden 10% Service charge. I was tipping anyway, but thought it was a bit rude that we had to pay it.
