Really disappointed! I wanted to spend some time with my friend and enjoy one drink (a cider) with some food. To my surprise I was asked for ID, despite clearly being over 18 (I am 26 years old!). Fair enough - it was my fault I did not have ID on me. I did show picture of my ID from my phone, they said that was unacceptable, (also fair enough). However, after already spending our money on food and drink with the imagination of relaxing and enjoying some time out, I was quite rudely being told to leave. I am now aware of the policy of the pub after 9pm but the meaner of which I was spoken to was just unfriendly and unprofessional. The problem escalated after the waitress said we could take our dinner away or just have nothing, she did not hint or give a refund as an option for us. We spoke to the waitress calmly and asked if we could just eat the food in the pub and not have any alcohol instead. She went to speak to her manger...When she came back a refund was now an option. At first, we chose to take away food, but then quickly changed our mind in LESS than one minute to say we actually did want a refund and that we just wanted to leave. My friend spoke to the waitress to ask for a refund, but wait...now it is not possible because the food had already been made? If that was the case why was refund ever an option? My friend then asks if we could have a refund on the drinks instead since I was being kicked out and he didn´t want to sit on his own. At first they said "no" because the pint had already been poured...but they then later changed their mind. Whilst the waitress was speaking to us, we both felt she was very rude with us and very unprofessional. We felt they just were going to take our money and kick us out with no warning. As well when my friend spoke to (who I assume is) the manager was very rude also. My friend felt he was very passive aggressive. In the end we just took our food and left to enjoy it cold! We had to wait until we got home to reheat the food in the oven.... The IRONY is only a couple of hours earlier I was with my classmates from University having lunch. I ordered a CIDER and no ID was needed.

You can still get a pint for less than £2! Brilliant!! No music so decent place for a chat. Very big pub, very long bar and got served quickly. Outside area. Good place to start drinking on the edge of town, with plenty of other 'livelier' pubs close by if you then want to move on.

Very unusual day in this pub today, super busy, low on staff, people clearing their own tables, new hires behind the bar not really knowing what they do... But manager on shift was super calm and trying to serve all tables and sort out all issues, superb attitude, hard work and ability to resolve issues is her strength, she deserves an appreciation... #bekindtohispitality

Nice atmosphere, centrally located, not too busy, service was good, ordered 2 pints and cheesy nachos to share. Nice beer garden, think there was a few locals in there and they were helpful and friendly. Definitely will visit again next time I come to Chester for a day.

Not a big fan of Wetherspoons food but it is cheap and cheerful as always . The service here was very quick , the staff were excellent and went above and beyond . I recommend to anyone wanting a cheap and quick meal . Drinks are still also very cheap at around £2 .

Stayed one night in the hotel as I've never stayed in a Wetherspoons hotel before. It turned out to be great value clean tidy room with all the usual facilities like kettle iron and tea coffee. Nice comfy bed and clean spacious bathroom.

Went here for lunch. The tables and menus were very sticky and grubby. Ordered chicken with rice that was not very nice. The little tub of coleslaw looked old. I had to anti bac my glass and get the lipstick off it. Next day I had tummy pains and lived in the bathroom. As that was my only meal i put it down to that. Why did I not complain at the time. The staff were busy and I did not think they would of been able to provide anything better. I will not return.

It's a weatherspoons food is good value for money. My partner had all day brunch but it was only warm and the bacon was burnt they offered a free drink but we went for the chocolate brownie and shared it. I had roast vegetable pizza and it was lovely.

This is a lovely pub in the heart of Chester. Staff were very friendly and helpful and service was good. We had a Christmas dinner which was really nice. Afterwards we fancied the mince tart but was disappointed to find it came in a wrapper and not in a dish. Just an idea it would have been delicious if it had have been slightly warm with either custard or cream. I don't think anyone would have minded paying a little extra for it. Instead it was as if I,d been in a shop and bought one.

Only ate here. Standard Weather spoons meal. Unfortunately because of food shortages I didn't get my side salad or grilled tomato with my steak, but I was still charged full price. I asked for an extra mushroom in place of the missing items and received 2, which was good. The staff were friendly and made us welcome. Just wish they had had a notice or pointed out the food shortages before we ordered and paid, I would have chosen the cheaper version of my steak meal.

My first stay at a Wetherspoon's hotel, but definitely not my last. Room's were comfortable, clean, warm, quiet and well equipped. £70 for a night was a good price for Chester on this date. Having a Wetherspoons about 50 steps from the room was the icing on the cake! Check in was very easy (at the end of the bar). The bar manager welcomed me, payment made there and then and full introduction to the facilities. All the bar staff were friendly and efficient as well. Breakfast in the morning (about 9am) was nice and the pub was quiet. Will definitely stay again if I'm in Chester.

We had a room booked in January but unfortunately as we was travelling we had a phone call from the manager that the previous customer had fallen through some glass and the bathroom was ruined. He very kindly got to work contacting other hotels for us in the city as an alternative. Managed to get us a lovely room in the Queens hotel and as it was more expensive they said if we came down they would refund us the extra and give us a round of drinks on the house. I just wanted to say a big thank you! And for the drinks. We managed to still have a lovely night in Chester for my brothers birthday. These things happen and It was really appreciated that the manager took time out from I'm sure was a busy weekend to help us. I hear they are having a refit so will definitely be booking again in the future.

A very nice pub. You can order using the app, qr code on the table or you can go up to the bar and order. The food is lovely, my partner and I had the large mixed grill and it was lovely.

Didn’t stay in hotel, just went in for food. The menu for children’s smaller appetite was very small ( only 4 options) and 2 of those were a pasta dish which my20 month old wouldn’t of eaten. So went up to the bar to ask for beans on toast which admittedly was on the breakfast menu. They already serve beans with other dishes so didn’t think it would be a a problem to just do some toast. How wrong I was. Wouldn’t switch the toaster on was our response. Also wanted a pizza for my daughter but was told there weren’t any pizzas but later over heard the waitress say to another member of staff “not switching the pizza oven on!” So we decided to leave. Not great customer service at all. Ended up going somewhere else. Then you wonder Mr Tim Martin why your number of customers has dropped.

Fantastic staff, delicious food and a great atmosphere. My favourite pub in Chester by a country mile. The only downside is it's over an hour away from where I live - well worth the trip though!

To be fair, for a Wetherspoon it was pretty good. Just outside the centre so not as busy. However, lots of small tables so our group had to spread over several tables. Ordered via app, didn't tell us that the pizza press was broken so it let us put them on the order, then cancelled the whole order as I came to pay... Somewhat annoying. Started again and the food and drinks came quickly. It was hot and a decent amount. Everyone satisfied (despite the lack of pizzas). Place is a little warn out in places, but nowhere near as bad as many others we have visited...

Went to Chester for the day and decided to go for lunch in the bull and stirrup. I was with my daughter and great grandaughter. We had fish and chips. The plates were nice and hot and the fish was delicious really crispy batter. The staff were lovely and friendly and we didn't have to wait for ages for our meals. Will definitely go again when I'm next in Chester

Great hotel/pub. Handy for an overnight car park and easy access for the zoo. Lovely fresh room with an amazing artwork by a 13 year old local.

I didn't stay at the hotel. Most people, myself included are here for the Wetherspoon's pub It was incredibly busy in the lead up to Christmas but the staff were dealing admirably with the vast number of people needing service. Good prices , good atmosphere. I didn't eat here this time, but have done in the past, and haven't yet been disappointed with the food

Regular Sat or Sun visitors to Chester and we always get there early to get some close free parking (Brook St recommended) and sometimes do Marmalade but it only opens at 10am on a Sunday so regularly do this Spoons for a coffee and quick brekky. Service today was excellent and friendly (should have got the waitresses name as she seemed to do be doing everything as they do) but she was exceptional. Contrast this with my review of lunch later in the day at the Pied Bull which wasn't a great experience.

Ordered the Sliced Turkey and winter vegetables from the Xmas menu. It didn’t quite look as good as the picture on the menu. Only had 1 tiny carrot and the mashed potato had squashed into a dome and been under a hot lamp for a while as the bottom was crusty. It was however very tasty and the stuffing was delicious. Gravy was just enough … garden peas were a little over cooked. Overall it was very good value for money and we give it a 7.5 out of 10. We ordered via the app and everything came promptly. Today was the first day of the Xmas menu so the negative aspects of our meal may be teething problems. We would order this again.

A lovely old pub with lots of choices on the menu. Food delicious, speedy service. Considering it was really busy, nothing was too much trouble for the staff. Would go again and highly recommend to others

The staff at this hotel are excellent, from bar staff, kitchen staff and housekeeping nothing too much trouble for them. Always polite and courteous. Only staff members name I got was Tom, he is an asset to the hotel. Thank you all for a great stay.

Stayed at the hotel for 2 nights, the room was pretty nice, the bathroom was excellent. The pillows were terrible and Aircon not great. The pub was decent although the food had to go back as it was cold. This was sorted quickly and professionally. Staff were friendly and helpful. Access to the rooms is via a very narrow and steep staircase that is also the route to the loos. Would go again as value for money it was hard to beat.

We only ate this time. Will consider staying on our next break to Chester. It's clean & tidy. The food is very good. Staff are brilliant always very busy. They do not stand any nonsense for unpleasant, noisy customer

A 3 night stay. Staff were extremely helpful even though short staffed and extremely busy. Stuart was very helpful too. I try not to mention names but he really did help us as I have a visual imoarement he asked all the right questions. The room was very nice and of a higher standard than Premier Inn. We will be staying in a wetherspoon hotel again

Had our breakfast here and as to be expected we were not disappointed. Food tasty and hot, coffee flowing freely and all for a very reasonable price. Only reason not 5 stars was the time taken to recieve food after it was ordered give pub was reasonably quiet.

Staff were friendly and polite. Place is clean and tidy. Food came quick, hot and delicious, well worth a visit for food! Why does jd have the toilets upstairs in most of their places!?

Brilliant! Great service and staff. Minor mistake with order but put right straight away no questions and no trouble at all. Stayed in the hotel here. Great location and a brilliant room and all for an incredible price.

Previously had really good pizza here but today not so, the pizza base was not cooked through in the middle and was far too thick. Even after sending it back the replacement was the same. Not sure if this a lack of training or inexperience in the kitchen or just a bad day. Waiting staff were very good and Wetherspoons remains excellent value for money.

Whetherspoons is great, and this one is no exception. Last time I went, I was served by a guy who was excellent. He served me just like you'd expect to be served at a posh restaurant! "Here's your breakfast sir, is there anything else late I can get for you?", Etc... Great for a £6 breakfast!

  • 3/5 John C. 2 years ago on Google
Typical Weatherspoons really. Ordered from app to table, which arrived really promptly. Staff seemed friendly and it wasn't very busy. That being said we left after first drink as place a member of the party didn't feel very covid safe. Staff were walking around without masks, tables were mixing, and was generally pretty dirty with empty glasses on tables. We watched a staff member clear eventually, but didn't wipe down the table. Table numbers were difficult to see (many had been removed), which made ordering from the app that much harder. All in all seemed like on a different day it could have been a nice venue, but in this occasion was just not a great visit.

Just need the some more concientious staff, who understand what cleaning tables mean. I know some are only teenagers but more supervision needed. Plus pick up food from the floor before it's trodden into carpet. On the plus side did witness 1 young lady 4 children younger maybe 18 month all well behaved and the waiter realising the pizza was for the children to share offered and bought plates for them well done that man.

Stayed overnight, nice cosy room, great shower, bed could be a little more comfy but not too bad. The only problem was there was a loud constant humming noise, so trying to sleep was a bit difficult (it wasn't the Aircon or anything). Other than that, great base, lovely staff and nice breakfast next morning!!

  • 4/5 David L. 2 years ago on Google
All spoons are more or less the same, very good food and drink, different buildings and layouts, but the same high standards.staff were professionable. Varieties of food and drink very good. Very competitive prices on both.

  • 3/5 Kaye C. 2 years ago on Google
Room lovely nice staff. Cocktails rubbish. Breakfast cold. No milk in room had to ask twice to get some second time They gave it me in a pint glass which I commented was,far too much so they changed it for half a pint. No mask wearing not even by staff waiting tables I didn't feel at all comfortable. Would not go again.

This is an impressively nice pub/restaurant that has some banging offers for food and drinks, you definitely can't find such good deals anywhere at the moment. You can enjoy a dine in experience (including any alcoholic/nonalcoholic drinks) for less than £20 for two people. The menu is quite diverse with plenty of food options from different cuisines that offers you good fresh food. The location has loads of tables for inside dining as well a nice garden with plenty of room and tables outside. We liked it a lot! Recommend, enjoy! 👍🏻❤
