I honestly couldn't have asked for a more ideal spot. The room is beautiful and has lots of antique touches. It's also very clean. The bathroom is extremely modern and very clean. The restaurant is fun and English. We definitely plan to stay here next time we're in Chester. My only note is that our room was next to the pub, so there was a dull roar until around 10pm. Not an issue, though.

Beautiful place, friendly staff and delicious food. We didn't stay at the hotel as we were in a day travel to the city, but the place itself and it's history are the charm. And, as a plus, its haunted (we were crazy to ask them permission to see the cellar, where the famous ghost John Davies walk around)

I popped in here for lunch. Good outdoor beer garden. Service and staff was great. Alcohol drinks quite expensive but soft drinks quite reasonable. My only complaint was the portion size of my Β£13.95 main meal of Steak & Ale pie and Mash(see photo). I was very disappointed. I made a complaint and waiter agreed and bought out anther portion of mash. The pie was small but tasted great. The mash tasted of made from powered potatoes...I maybe wrong..

Good real ale. Excellent gin, service good. Sharing platter amazing. Other food delicious. Bed comfortable. Room an awkward shape but a spacious feel.

Very good location and good value for money. Building oozes character. Had a good night sleep and check in and out was efficient. Felt when checking in they could have been a more engaging but other than that it was a good stay. Very nice food options nearby.

Staff friendly and hospitable. Thanks to the member of staff who saw us standing with drinks, approached us and offered us a table to sit at even though it was busy and we could not see any available tables. This was a nice gesture.πŸ‘ You are made to feel welcome. Would recommend a visit.

Loved the location. Nice easy walk (using Google maps) from the train station. Check in was easy and straight forward. Room was nice. Access to room could be difficult if you have any mobility issues. Bar area was nice but beware drinks are expensive and if you order a double you will be charged double the price. Apparently that's just the way they do things.

Well I wasn't expecting much from just over Β£50 per room per night. Well was I surprised. Amazing friendly help staff. Good value food. Building is amazing. If your above 6ft our room was not for you however myself and my daughter at 5ft and a Peanut it was perfect. Bathroom was extremely modern for the age of the building. Great water pressure. We

The perfect spot for our visit. Central to everything and the atmosphere we were wishing for. We loved the history and quirkiness of the Inn. Dinner was delicious, the back courtyard was private, the beer great. The rooms are small, but you aren’t spending much time in them and the bathrooms were updated. The staff were very friendly and helpful. Overall, I’d stay again when coming back!

I'd managed to book a very last minute deal at The Pied Bull for Β£50 and upon checking in management upgraded us to a lovely four poster suite. We had a couple of drinks in the pub downstairs that is actually the oldest establishment in Chester that got its liquor license. The menu and food looked delicious but we already had reservations elsewhere so didn't try this time. Location was perfect, next door to the new @chesterindoormarket with all the different food vendors tempting you with their offerings.

Lovely food. Very busy when we 1st walked in. We had a reservation and the man found a place quieter for us to sit and eat rather than being in the hustle and bustle of Christmas shoppers. Waiting staff were lovely and very accommodating. Would recommend to anyone.

Overall our visit to Chester was very enjoyable - the one big exception was this hotel. The room was small and very noisy - bin emptying early morning, street yelling etc into the late night - very thin walls so could hear everything from rooms next to us, including someone with a constant hacking cough. The room was small, the bed was small and very uncomfortable - overall disappointing!

Stayed for 2 nights, initially booked in smoothly and staff helpful as we arrived early, took our case to store it until room available. We were given a room number and told it was in the oldest part of the building which we were excited about. Seemed very nicely decorated for Christmas. Then on return we were given a different room number? Why in a different part of the building. The room was at the top of the building with alot of stairs, had booked a superior double, bed was a metal frame and not a full size bed, pillows very uncomfortable. Good sized shower, room was clean. Tea/coffee/milk were not restocked during our stay, weren't asked about new towels. Could not sleep at night due to outside noise/music and shouting people and slammimg doors of other guests, compounded by the bins being emptied and possible brewery deliveries at 5am every morning. Single glazed windows due to the age of the building. Its a pity as we were really looking forward to our stay.

This really is a super pub with good real ales brewed on site. Very helpful and knowledgeable staff. I will definitely visit here again and even stay overnight as the have 31 bedrooms. They have a good menu too. Great pub.

Fabulous old building, full of character, close to the centre of historic Chester. Due to its location on the side of the building my room was very noisy. The bathroom was ok but with a very low ceiling it meant I had to crouch to get under the shower. Service was crisp but slightly detached. Food was good.

stayed here for my birthday. I loved the tutor style building and how close it was to the shops. We paid just under Β£9 for the night and had a gorgeous 4 poster bed with a bath and shower. Breakfast was included and it didn't disappoint! The staff were always around to help. I would 100% visit here again!

We stayed two nights and absolutely loved our time here! Rooms were great, staff was friendly, and they even chased me down the road after check out when I had left my airpods in the room. High quality in the heart of the town. Everything is walkable, and easy access to the train station which is how we arrived in town.

Rooms were adequate, if a little small and we could everything the neighbours were doing and I mean EVERYTHING. I found it a bit strange that the shower was so big but there was no cupboard/wardrobe to store clothes. Food and beer was excellent and location couldn't have been better.

Lovely pub with rooms. Stayed in a superior double. Room was lovely but overpriced what for you get. Breakfast is extra. We didn't have breakfast so unable to speak on this. Cosy pub with good selection of drinks. Staff were friendly.

We had a really pleasant stay. The room was fine and the bed comfy. The staff were friendly and helpful. My only issue is I would have liked more toast with breakfast. Not the end of the world tho πŸ™‚ also you can't fault the location.

Absolutely fantastic, clean, spacious, hot water at a great pressure (on top floor!!) Beer options were also great. Didn’t eat, but it looked good. Staff were great, good value for hotel inside city walls.

We had two nights stay here checking in on a Sunday and out on the following Tuesday. The pub is good food and service excellent. Our room was nice clean and well appointed. I’ve marked it 3 stars because the night time noise was constant. From people wandering noisily throughout the night and regular traffic followed by the early starts of refuse collection, street cleaning vehicle, bottle collections and the delivery and collection of beer kegs we didn’t get a decent sleep either night! I would visit the pub again but never stay in the hotel.l preferring to find somewhere I might enjoy a more restful sleep!

Lovely Inn, only issue we had was that we were in room 23, which is ground floor and next to the back yard which housed the bins and barrels. That isn't a problem until 5:45am on the Monday morning when there was either a delivery or something similar because it was very noisy for about 15 minutes. The wall to the room next door was also very thin as we could hear the full conversation. We also had no hot water on the last morning, but we told the staff who fixed it straight away (the pilot light had gone out on the boiler). Staff were great the whole time and the food was really good

Excellent stay at this wonderful historic gem in the heart of Chester. It is so well located, everything is walkable. The staff are lovely and gave great service. Very comfortable stay, great sleep in our beautifully decorated room. The pub food is excellent, with the rooms quiet and relaxing. Highly recommend The Pied Bull!

Stopped at the pied bill for a drink and a spot of lunch, I had the steak pie and my husband had the bangers & mash, served with a selection of fresh vegetables. My pie came with chips but I asked if I could have mash instead. The pie was the best I can say I’ve ever tasted, the mash creamy and vegetables cooked to perfection. My husband really enjoyed his sausages. Would highly recommend, lovely proper home cooked tasty food. Will definitely be back if ever this way

Staff were welcoming when checking in, later while having dinner (which was brilliant) Staff were very friendly and delivered an excellent service. The room was lovely, clean and the in-room bath was a fabulous feature. Would definitely recommend and will definitely be re-booking in future.

What a fabulous place! Just had 3 nights in a twin room with my Mum. Excellent service from checking in, to checking out. Room had everything we needed, Ensuite was roomy and looked newly refurbished. We had an issue with the radiator in the room, but this was quickly sorted out by the manager, who supplied us with a portable radiator. Food in the bar is a little pricey compared to other pubs in the area, but it's good food. The location is spot on for the city centre. Can't wait for my next stay!

The oldest pub in Chester. Nice friendly staff. For all you real ale drinkers they brew on the premises and only sell their own bitters. The brewery is underneath the bar You can book a tour and try the beers and you will get some food. I can't comment on the rooms as we didn't stay overnight. πŸ˜ŠπŸ‘

This hotel is exceptional from the moment you enter the reception staff are extremely polite and helpful. The bedrooms are roomy and very clean and nicely decorated. Downstairs you have the dining room and bar with wooden beams in the ceiling again bar staff very nice and helpful. I had breakfast at the hotel and one evening meal. The food was 1st class and served hot. I would have no hesitation in recommending this hotel, indeed it's the only one I would stay in. Pied Bull- THANK YOU. Paul Edmonds

Dropped in for a bite to eat for my family of five on a day trip to Chester. Nice old fashioned pub, spotlessly clean, friendly staff and good value honest food. They even had gluten free options for my youngest. Would definitely go again.

Nice brewed beer (their own), nice authentic old pub with plenty of character. The guy behind the bar was very friendly. Great selection of beers. The bar guy was very knowledgeable about what was on offer. Nice outside area. Would recommend.

It's one of our favourite places to stay when we come to Chester. I love the history that is connected to the hotel, it fascinates me... But it has evolved and manages to keep the historical feel while giving you modern amenities. Our room was in the main building... Which I prefer... Big enough, with a lovely bathroom, lots of natural light and all the usual, tea and coffee etc The only problem was this time we were situated directly over the side gates and were woken very noisily by the bin men... The noise was so loud it gave us a proper jolt and continued for around 10 mins .... No one's fault it is a business after all so kind of expected, just never had it before... Note for next time Great location for either walking directly into town or using the wall as a short cut... The pub is great, the food is lovely... Would recommend

Enjoyed the craft beers from their micro brewery. Loved the quirky names! Really relaxing beer garden at the rear. Lovely staff, knowledgeable landlord. Didn't eat here but menu was tempting and shall return next visit to Chester!

Brilliant old hotel. So much history and architecture which is made even more interesting by the stories about the two resident ghosts. They even brew their own beer, which by the way is excellent. Food is superb and room clean and comfortable. Great stay and looking forward to our return.

beautiful building, very friendly staff, but lots of little things let it down. No towels in the room when we arrived, no biscuits, very cheap bed linen, fried breakfast was lovely but no cereals, fruit yoghurts or croissants, terrible coffee, and the evening meal we had was awful. I had a pie which you practically needed a hammer and chisel to get through the pastry, and the gammon steak my daughter had was very chewy. Would not stay there again.

Gorgeous old public house right in the city centre. Beautiful rooms which are impeccably clean with everything one would need. We had no view from ours but the views on the inside made it worth it. Kept in its 11th century ways so would not recommend for disabled users, no lift and slightly uneven floors

Beautiful old building with a ton of character. The staff are so welcoming, the rooms were clean, had a great night's sleep. A thing to note is that the route to some of the rooms (stairs, corridors etc) are very uneven and steep with a very low ceiling, but it's an old building so of course this can't be helped, just something to prepare yourself for!

Have always liked this great old Chester pub, a 'propahh' pub. Old school, thumbs up from me. Good management, good beer, good vibe, great building. Plenty of room downstairs. Does food. Offers accommodation. Has got a small beer garden out the back past the loos, but the beer garden shuts at 9 p.m. so you can't do any midnight weeding or sowing...
