From the start very welcoming and friendly. Service was fast and efficient. The food was very good. High quality bacon and eggs. Had been cooked very well. Would definitely return. About average price for a café, more expensive than a budget cafe or breakfast place but it is definitely worth the extra pennies as the quality is so much greater.

Fantastic cafe that we found online as my husband is diagnosed coeliac and nearly everything they do in here is or can be made gluten free. They also explained that all gluten free food is carefully prepared separately with separate utensils to avoid cross contamination. We didn’t have a reservation and we could see they were super busy but the kind lady managed to sort us a table in 15 minutes. Food was brilliant, my husband had a toasted club sandwich and said it was great. All of the cakes are gluten free (except for scones) so the 5 of us picked one each to take home. Honestly some of the best cakes we’ve ever tried! The banoffee pie is to die for! Highly recommend and we will be back when we are next in the area… definitely recommend making a reservation as it is very popular… we will next time!

Absolutly beautiful. I stumbled upon this place on way back to bus station. The jacket was completly lush. And they cater for blvegans too. The above was coronation tofu. Serving size was v generous. As a result this place is on our list ehen we are in our county town. Dont be put off when you see only few tables inside there is plently of seating upstairs.

Visited last weekend was very happy. Friendly speedy service even on a Saturday. Loved the milkshake, and jalapeño panini. Thank you very much, definitely returning next time we’re in Chester :)

This was a star find so much that I had to come twice to this cafe on my weekend trip to Chester. The staff were extremely friendly and informed and could help me with my enquiries. Their menu is coealic friendly and *ALL* their cakes are gluten free

A lovely warm, small cafe with super helpful and friendly staff. The tomato and pepper soup was delicious, and the chicken, chorizo and cheese panini was equally yummy. The cafe is dog friendly, with additional seating upstairs.

Lovely shop. We had breakfast . I was very pleased with the gluten free options. I recommend making a reservation. ( we were very fortunate to be seated even though we didn't have a reservation) Although we ate early and left, the place was packed less than an hour later when we walked by. Friendly staff.

Outstanding white chocolate, passion fruit and raspberry cheese cake. Decent chai tea latte. Dropping 1 star for overly sweet chai latte (probably used syrup for the taste). Would have been better with a plain tea.

Lovely little dog friendly cafe. We popped in for lunch, luckily got a table as it was very popular that day might be worth booking. They have a hot chocolate menu! Honeycomb hot chocolate is amazing. Good choice of food. Recommend the broccoli and Stilton soup and coronation chicken sandwich. The staff were very friendly and made a fuss of our dog and gave her a treat.

Great place to have breakfast, it wasn't the best I've ever had but it was very good. The service was really nice, nothing to complain about. Overall, I can recommend.

I think you need to make a reservation to be sure of a table. We turned up and fortunately were offered a table. The food was really good and the staff very friendly. My wife is Gluten free and their menu caters for this. Highly recommend. Be aware that they stop their breakfast menu at 11.30 though.

Popped in for breakfast after dropounf the car off for a Service and simply asking Google "Where is the best place for Breakfast?". Well, fortunately, Google was absolutely spot on this morning. Picture shows the Veggie Breakfast and Full English (picture doesn't fully show the x2 pots of Earl Grey loose leaf teas, OJ's, and oodles of brown toast)😋😋. Well worth a visit to (nearly) the top of Northgate Street. 👌 Upstairs also has a nice little bar area, but maybe it was just too early in the morning for a cheeky tipple 🤔😏😉 Definitely will go out of my way to visit again. 😊

The salads were fantastic. Between our group, we had a selection of poached salmon salad, goats cheese and beetroot salad and crayfish and avocado salad. All thoroughly enjoyed.

This place is amazing! I had the soup of the day which was tomato & chilli along with the BBQ pulled pork panini and I can honestly say it is the best panini I have ever had. Nowhere else in Chester competes, you can tell why it’s rated the #1 cafe on Tripadvisor!

Wonderful menu and great service. If we are ever in Chester again - will definitely head for there for our lunch. It was pretty busy when we arrived but now we know why. Staff were very accommodating

Deservedly rated highly. Good food. Good ambience. Polite and pleasant staff. What's not to like? Try it. You won't be disappointed. All cakes are gluten free too.

Lunch for 3, sandwiches & a panini excellent food, side salads & coleslaw included. Very good portion sizes. Followed by cakes the size of which were huge! Lively to find somewhere that really dies cater for gluten free. We'll be back!

I can't praise Marmalade enough. I've visited many times over the years with both friends and family, and every experience has been phenomenal. Dawn and her staff are all incredibly accommodating and always ready to find solutions to sort a table for walk-ins. In terms of the menu, there's a fantastic selection of food on offer with generous portions. Most notably, nothing is too much trouble when it comes to (often complex!) dietary requirements too. We'll be visiting as regulars for many more years to come!
