Great place to visit with friends or family. There is cool little library. They could sell souvenirs, but honestly this place is all about old fashion entertainment: books, giant telescopes, small telescopes, and lots of things to learn from the super knowledgeable guide. Even though the place has plenty of room for improvement, I still give it five stars. This place is unique in Ohio.

Great if you are a member, but they don't welcome people who just want to set up their own telescope on a dark night. They want you to pay for a telescope class (I built my telescope; I could teach a telescope class). I recommend going to the John Glenn Astro Park if you just want to star gaze with your own equipment or other's for free.

I haven't been to Perkins Observatory since I was a kid. We took a tour of the observatory and had a lecture about Jupiter and Saturn. Unfortunately the weather was completely overcast so we were unable to look through the telescope. There were plenty of displays and educational facts about space spread throughout the first floor and basement. The building itself is also pretty darn cool. It was built in the 1920s, so visiting for the history alone is worth a trip (only 20 miles north of Columbus!)

The Ohio Village has changed since the last time I visited a while ago, it has moved forward in time to the late 1800's.(1898) It was a very interesting tour with demonstrations throughout; wood stove cooking and baking, blacksmithing, and an game of early baseball. I highly recommend going to see and learn how our families had to live and work in those times.

Live exhibitions, knowledgeable people, fun topics to learn about and history playing out right in front of you. Get the membership if you're going to come back again or see other sites in the state. It's well worth it!

Ohio Village is a trip through time! My first time was during their Christmas in the Village and it was magical! One of the first real snows of the year with perfect snowflakes augmented the period dress, chestnuts over the open fire, and caroling. Ohio Village hosts multiple events throughout the year. It has been a great location for Columbus Coffee Fest, which was a magical experience itself. Easy access from the freeway, plenty of parking, reasonable prices. A great place to visit!

Visited the village today for coffee fest. Had 26 different coffees. Tried them all and got sick. I'm talking hangover, destroying 70's pavement along the way home. I don't regret a thing, I just can't have coffee for a while. Anyways awesome place to have festivals and visit

Had our wedding here and it is the best venue ever! Loved the church, reception space and the coordinators made our day stress free. They were great to work with and so kind! An affordable venue with character.

Seeing Perkins Observatory and listening to the presentations about the stars was a lot of fun. The volunteer staff did a great job keeping everyone engaged including the kids. Being in Ohio, there is a slim chance the big telescope will be used. But although we did not get to see through the telescope, I am glad I went and plan to go again. I suggest arriving when they open to check out the displays and computers.

I really enjoyed the speakers. The building has a quite a lot of historical value which makes it worth going even on a cloudy night. If you love old computers, they practically have a museum of them. Obviously going on a clear night where you can use the telescope would be ideal. We weren't so lucky, but we plan on going back several times.

My family met there as a special outing for all 15 of us. It was very informative. It was too cloudy to be able to look through the telescope.

Amazing to see the history, science at work and clear excitement in astronomy and physics of the presenter. We called last minute on a date the website said there were still tickets available and got in at the last minute. I wouldn't do this if possible though, try to plan on advance. The only downside was the neighbor guy from "the lovely bones" who was there. Needing a shower badly and creeping out the fiance. Stay home or shower creepy Flanderses! Thank you to the volunteers who brought out their experience and awesome telescopes to see mercury, venus, nebulae and the moon. The handmade telescope was the coolest I've seen.

The building is older therefore the step used to get up could cause a slip. And it is cold in the building. Over all though the experience is really fun especially if you love to read books because of the library there.

How wonderful to have a place so close to home where I can meet other astronomical enthusiasts!! Many knowledgeable individuals to teach you about the phenomenal sky, and how to observe the stars and planets with their amazing equipment. My only complaint is the parking situation. The road leading to the observatory is very narrow, unpaved, and no actual parking lot.

The observatory is a fun place to learn about space. We went on a cloudy night so we were unable to use the telescope. However, the director of the observatory gave a question and answer session and tour instead. Very insightful.

Went to the Columbus Coffe fest put on by Columbus Underground. Great experience. Was able to try a large variety of coffee blends from local roasters. Am a huge fan of Coffee Crafters in the Third Way Cafe at Westgate. They were there serving local roasts as well. The event, put on at Ohio Village, was a huge success. I can't wait until next year.

I loved the information provided by one man wearing cap having little long hair. (Nice style man) I loved one sentense he mentioned "We live in percieved present" Place smells but is smell of books/ old things placed there and i personally like it. Very good experience.. he was answering all questions asked by audince In library looking at computers i was feeling like I am at shooting set of "Big bang theory " web series

I came here for my birthday a few years ago. The man hosting the tour has a shirt so low cut you could see his chest hairs! He practically dismissed us and we walked through aimlessly ourselves. We couldn’t use the telescope so that was a bust. The observatory wasn’t impressive but we made it into a good time.

The Friday night program is good. If the weather is clear, there will be several telescopes set up outdoors for observation of planets and interesting stars. Similarly, you may get to use the giant telescope in the observatory. I don't know what they do if it's overcast or raining, but we were able to see Jupiter with two of it's moons, the rings of Saturn, and a nifty little blue and gold binary star constellation in cygna. The volunteer astronomers were very knowledgeable, enthusiastic and helpful. Here are a couple helpful hints for maximizing your visit: Dress for the weather. You will be standing outside in the dark for an hour or more. The roads are narrow, unimproved, and not lit. Gps fails right near the entrance, so watch for the small unlit signs. Maybe make a dry run during the daytime when you can see the road. Get there a little bit early so that you can wander around and look at the library and small exhibits. Embrace the dark. The universe will be revealed to you.

Unfortunately the sky had clouds so we could not see output from the telescope. With that said, they converted to an interesting discussion. The 5 year old loved the library and displays but got bored during discussions

It seems a little rundown. And what they offer when there are clouds overhead leaves much to be desired.

We took a big group of kids on a trip to this place. It’s was a piss poor presentation. We payed a lot of money to listen to a guy talk for 3 hours. We didn’t even get to look through the telescope. It’s was not an interactive experience. He took us on a tour of the building and didn’t get to see the library. The place was filthy and there was a foul moldy Odor. There were a tone of spider webs everywhere. At the end of the trip the guy with the long pony tale who took us on a tour asked one of the teachers β€œ UMM so who’s paying for this” which was kind of rude. The kids were bored and it was a waist of time and money. I wouldn’t recommend this for kids.

Only people passionate about space and astronomy can do what the people here at Perkins observatory do. They have really good speakers who narrate the history of the place and the space artifacts on display here.

  • 5/5 Isaac C. 7 years ago on Google
Hidden architectural jewel! Neat place to bring young and old alike to learn about astronomy. The tour of the observatory is awesome!

  • 5/5 Ben C. 12 years ago on Google
If you have any interest in the stars, space, or astronomy, this is a great place to go to learn more and experience things firsthand. There are public programs fairly frequently (time changes, check the website or call for the latest). The public progams include a basic tour of both outer space and the space inside the historic observatory building which has lots of exhibits and interesting artifacts including a giant telescope mirror. Make sure you call ahead and get tickets before making the trek. The programs are popular and if you just show up you may be turned away at the door since its a fairly popular place and they can only accomidate a limited number of people.

Absolutely amazing experience during their holiday events. The Halloween Legend of Sleepy Hollow is unlike any other in Columbus. My family's favorite is The Dickens of a Christmas. If you're a fan of the book "A Christmas Carol" by Charles Dickens then this is the event for you. Caroling, horse drawn carriage rides, hot wassil, crafts, St Nikolas, a Victorian promenade dance with live music, and the best part, costumed character straight of A Christmas Carol. My family has gone every year for almost 30 years now. Wouldn't miss it for the world.
