Pong reservoir named after Maharana Pratap Singh as Maharana Pratap Sagar was created in the year 1975 by earth filling on the Beas river of Kangra district's Shivalik hills of Himachal Pradesh and now it's the highest earth filled dam in India and has become a well known wildlife sanctuary and has been declared 25 international wetland site in India. Apart from wildlife there are many watersports that take place in the reservoir like swimming, rowing, sailing, waterskiing and canoeing. The reservoir has also created an island called Ransar island, which is rich of Himalayan Flora and Fauna!

Very beautiful place. Here you can see so many birds which come here from other countries. You can listen different voices of birds. All area covered with birds in the winter season. But the bank of the reservoir is not clean people throw plastic, you can see wooden pieces here. You can enjoy boating here with your family. You can easily access this area with your car and bike.

Nice place with good views and boats to take you to smaller islands in the river. Lots of wild and domestic cattle grazing in the huge grassland on the shore. Take sometime to drive or walk along the beautiful shoreline.

The Pong Dam Lake, before the Pong Dam was constructed was known as Haldoon Valley and was very famous for its agriculture produce all over the State of HP..Now it's famous for the migratory birds & Pong Wet Land.Tourists didn't visit in much numbers due to the threat in the lake of Bird Flue.Thousands of birds were perished and dumped by the wild life authorities in the lake area. Still due to the fear very less people are visiting. At present there are no facilities for the tourists ,which requires to be provided. Also ornamental plants are required to be planted in the lake from MSL OF 1380 to 1410 Ft.,so that sufficient greenery & aesthetics are created for future & to attract tourists. Master Plan is required to be prepared to develope the lake for attracting birds, tourists & improving general conditions.
