I went to the emergency department because of a cyst that I had in my leg that was infected and needed a small surgery. I spend all day since 8 am to 7 pm , 11hours to be seen by a doctor . They put me in a bed I don’t know for what when I was waiting , it means that I didn’t eat or drink water during that time . Never they offer me any food . I eventually give up of waiting for the doctor and I had to come next day 7 am to the urgency department again . Near the same waiting time . I really don’t understand why such a simple procedure can’t be done in the GP or a walking centre . And when I had the surgery done after waiting for near 18 hours in total they give me a full anaesthesia , why just why , are they mad , this hospital need a full investigation because things don’t look right in there .Imagine be put to sleep for a cyst of a hair follicle infection . They all need to have their heads tested .

The A&E is worse than what you would expect from a third world country. I collapsed at home with horrific chest pain I was crying and rolling on the floor. Somehow my daughter got me in a taxi and the driver carried me in to A&E when we got there. I was still crying and on the floor. Two people tried to lift me but I couldn't move from the pain. My daughter ran to the desk and the girl on the desk was horrendously rude. Told my daughter 'go sit down and wait like everybody else!' The attitude and lack of concern made my daughter feel like crying but she held it in. The place was packed full. Maybe 50 people and most looked normal like just waiting to see a GP. We heard 5 ambulances were waiting outside and the next person they brought in was actually taking his last breath. No staff seemed to give a damn about him and his wife was traumatised. Suddenly they took his trolley away quickly and we were sure he had died. The ambulance medics were constantly running in and out looking for staff or even any space for trolleys. My daughter cradled me on the floor for 4 hours while I cried in pain. Staff just breezed past and didn't even look or check. I was petrified. When I finally got into triage the blood tests and scan showed problems with my liver but I still got sent home in agony. Absolutely shameful this hospital claims to give emergency care. The A&E is a third world country standard. Blaming the government is not a good enough excuse for why no emergency care exists at this hospital. None!

Absolutely awful service! Nurses are just sat talking not caring for any patients, the doctor is so slow he managed to see 2 people in the space of 4 hours. I was told I was next to then be told by a different nurse that there’s still one more person in front of me. That was 3 hours ago and I am still waiting? Awful service. Awful nurses and awful doctors. I understand that hospitals can be short staffed. But I’ve come to derby as a student and I can say this hospital is by far the worst one I have ever been to.

Maternity team were absolutely fantastic. Extremely knowledgeable and very fast to react. The team work really well with one another and overall 10/10 for the experience. The rooms on the Maternity ward were clean and well outfitted with the tools required whatever the situation with the birth. My only negative is that the NHS are still using paper, pens and stickers as the record keeping. It's 2023. Collaborative tablets would allow better detail, images, bar code scanning, scheduling, alerting, integration with monitoring equipment. At the moment it's all reliant on a person to remember to put a sticker or a note on a piece of paper and hope their handwriting is legible. Come on NHS, hand written notes were the solution in the 1950's, not 2023!

why is it so difficult to ring main reception and have someone pick up? When I visit reception at Kings end always very quiet and person just sitting there bored, or main reception, always someone there, but try and phone up and you might as well write a letter! Does the main reception number ring at all main receptions? There has to be a better way of using the staff than is currently in operation Royal Derby :(

Just had the most pleasant and efficient A&E visit; was helped at each stage by friendly staff despite it being quite late on a Thursday night, had an X-ray taken and interpreted in record time, and although the hospital layout was a bit confusing, a nurse who'd just gone on a beak took time out of that to show us the right way to get back to Urgent Care. Thank you to all the helpful folks at A&E, I hope the ridiculous silliness of a grown woman injuring her foot trying to turn a cartwheel brightened your evening a little!

I would like to say a big thank you to a lovely security guard at the main entrance that tried to calm my nerves after an out door workman who was driving a mini scoop truck opposite of car park entrance 6 had been shouting at me, I was lost and he shouted at me and told me he didn't care, which upset me, he wouldn't give me his name, he told me that he didn't care. I was so nervous about entering the hospital and the Lovely security guard offered me a chair to sit down on. I had just drove over 52 miles to visit my Dad thankfully to my Daughter who gave me the petrol money to visit him, so many other staff who welcomed me, So I would like to say a big thank you to you lovely staff and people that helped me over come my nerves and helped me see my poorly Dad today. I suffer from panic attacks. So Thank you 🙏 XXXX

I just got home yesterday after being here for 2 days. No criticism of the doctors but I didn’t like where they put me!! 10 hrs in A& E on a bed in the plaster room. Then on a section where beds were set off a long corridor that had an atmosphere like gloom & death & finally to an assessment ward. A few of the staff spoiled it for me. One Indian nurse made a cup of tea for an Indian patient but didn’t want to make one for me. A nurse in A&E tried 3 times 2 take a blood sample & failed. She was incompetent. Another did it 1st time. A Japanese nurse in the gloom & death section jumped out on me at about 11.30 pm & told me I could not wander about & to go to my room. I told her I had only been to the toilet but she didn’t back down. Also in that dept the staff nurse refused 2 give me paracetamol for a headache. She was Carribean . I think there is a definite colour prejudice and it’s not the white section.. I was miserable through unkind staff & lack of sleep so discharged myself against hospital advice(.

I was having problems with my site and for some time, I had noticed that my balance was also being affected. But my sight would be badly affected each time, I was the. To have a serious fall, and was taken into the the hospital, and while their they sent me for an eye examination, the doctor at that time was so kind and understanding, but he never told me what actually was wrong with my eyes, but asked me if I was asked to go back would I ? I told him yes, as I had suffered for nearly ten years with my eyes and it seemed that no one new what was the actual course.until now, to then in may I had a letter from the hospital and I was told I had a rapid form if Glaucomer, sadly my sight was leaving me, I came home and started to make changes, to my home, and then I went back for my second examination, when I was asked would I like to have Lazer treatment to slow the blindness down I took the advice and In June I had both my eyes operated on, while awake, everything went well and then I was sent for again, for a check up, when I was informed I also had dry eyes, they gave me drops and until late August, I was fine but now I am having further problems, I was called by the hospital to see, if I had had the operation, I told them yes, I also had a check up by another doctor a few weeks later who I could say didn't seem to take his time regarding my safety, while checking my eyes, as he seemed to be in a rush he never assisted me while I struggled to get rid of my crutches, nor did he help me to place my face in the correct place on the opthelmick frame, as my chin was not sitting on the frame correctly, he seemed as he rushed the inspection. To get out of the hospital, as he soon left after I came back to the waiting room, I can not say I liked his whole attitude towards me and if it happens again that should see him, I shall be taking it further, it was gr who stated I had dry eyes.something I new of, well befor the admittance to the hospital, and we'll before the operation. Sadly since the operation my eyesore has grown worse, and I'm due back towards this month, I spoke to my GP, and she has said I may need to have my eyes tested again at the opticians, but after calling them this morn, I have been told due to the fact I'm still under the care of the hospital, they can not see me, now I have to re call my surgery, and again bother the young doctor who came from majors, to our surgery, that she was in the wrong, to state, that I needed to have my eyes tested, but I am due for a checkup at the hospital at the end of November, therefore I would much rather go back to the Doctor, and have my eyes checked out there than Specsavers, who state, I'm not allowed to have my eyes tested until I'm discharged from the hospital. Sadly for me I'm struggling to walk, I'm going deaf, and I am in a lot of pain, and being in lockdown and alone I truly feel let down by all who should be looking after me regarding my sight as well as wellbeing . But the operation I feel did work, but something has gone wrong since as I'm unable to see the TV to change channels I was able to see the TV quite well prior to the op, but since that time I can not see a clear picture, I have to go to the TV, and stand about four ft so I can see what station I want to be watching. But I think the whole care from start to finnish at the king's outpatients clinic was outstanding. From the start hopefully to the end .

My father was sent home from this hospital having no tests He came out of that hospital unable to talk and confused. Was taken to Good Hope hospital next day from home he had had a stroke after doing the tests that this hospital should have done he is 87 I am appalled by how he Was treated we will find out how much damage has been done to his brain due to the negligence of this hospital no forms signed lack of care So grateful to Good Hope hospital the nurses and doctors involved should hang their heads in shame.

Arrived at 930 at night to to go as my blood test result had a low reading. Says I could have a heart attack if the reading gets any lower Didn't see a doctor till after 6am when I questioned if there were any doctors on in one of the emergency departments the red department i was told there was only 1 doctor on for the whole department and would have to wait spent 7 hour asleep on a chair.before new shift came on and was seen rapidly. So if your there between 7.30 am and 5 pm your fine if not don't bother going in through the night as short staffed

I wish I could leave a zero report. I called them, they cut me off 5 times ffs! I eventually got through to A & E, my 79 year old sister collapsed, has been sat there since the ambulance picked her up and she is still sat in A & E at nearly 8pm, called back again, A & E answered, tried to put me through to someone, which department I have no clue, can’t give me any information, absolutely shocking service!! Told me to call back in 2 hours, really getting annoyed now 🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬

One of the worst A&E . Came in becos of intense pain at 9.30pm but no doctor seemed available. After waiting for 5 and half hours we were told there were 2 patients ahead of us...after another 3 and half hours wait still no doctor. It's a deeply upsetting and painful experience in an uncaring atmosphere.

I work here & it's a good hospital. The team and i recruit the lovely Trust volunteers who will meet you at the main entrance, drive you to your clinic on the yellow buggy or be there to assist in our many departments or on our wards. They're all amazing and yes I love my job.

My son came off his bike and woke me at 5 am. At 5.45 and no ambulance arrived we agreed they’d decided not a life threatening case. It took a while to get to triage but then he was quickly ct and xrayed. He’s been brilliantly stitched and in each department staff were happy and relaxed. When on 12 hour shifts having a natter and giggle is well deserved. We waited a while but received excellent care and after care too

Went to A&E. Was seen by the the nurses straight away due to a suspect heart issue. One of the nurse could not get the cannula in and did not the difference between an artery and a vein!!!!!! Then had to wait 10 hrs for a doctor to come and advise me that I need and x-ray. After the x-ray they said it was nothing and I left. Extremely rude and pathetic nursing team. The doctor was even more incompetent and dud not take kindly to feedback. Poor seating. Poor management of a department. More interested in dealing with homeless people. Went to QE Hospital Birmingham a few days later. Maximum 2 hrs wait and had an MRI scan done, which highlighted the issue. All treated and fixed. Never go to RDH. They are incredibly incompetent.

I can’t believe how good the Royal Derby Hospital has been. Had to visit a few times recently with my dad. Mr Khan and the team have been so wonderful, open and clear in the options for us. They have allowed time and discussions to happen with all the facts. Their “customer care” has been brilliant and authentic in a difficult situation. The only downside is the parking, you need to allow at least an hour to park once you arrive at the hospital.

I took my very ill sister from the rheumatology department, on the advice of her consultant, to have a blood test. Unfortunately she was met by an extremely rude phlabotomist; she was challenging and dismissive and asked whether her blood test was urgent as it only said priority on the form the Consultant had given her - with instructions to go down to the blood clinic, she then pointed to the waiting room and told my sister that all these people were waiting, thereby implying she should not have been there. I was astounded at the attitude of this member of staff and upset for my sister having been spoken to in this manner, we had come directly from the rheumatology department and had booked in as instructed, we waited an hour but felt that this was perfectly acceptable. My sister has a speech impediment and I presume this woman gained the impression that she was low mentality and could be spoken to without any compassion or respect, in all the many years I have supported my sister through her long illness I have never, ever come across a member of the medical profession with this type of humiliating attitude to a patient and will never attend a blood clinic there again.

Referred to A&E by local walk-in centre. Hospital was very clean, staff were friendly and courteous. Saw a GP then a specialist ENT doctor, both of them very thorough and willing to listen. Yes there is a degree of waiting involved but that's life at the minute. I was pretty impressed 👍

My husband was admitted to a&e after a fall from height. From the ambulance crew, who arrived within 10 mins, to the team in a&e we can't thank you enough. Special thanks to ward 208 for their care and attention while in their care, they all were wonderful and nothing was too much trouble for them.

I had lower jaw surgery. The 2 stars are for the two surgeons who did an amazing job. The after care was sadly missing from ward nurses. One explained she was too tired to work the night shift as she had only returned from Spain that morning. She was meant to do hourly vitals yet didn't, so when the Sister asked her why she stated I wasn't around to do them. Some individuals are clearly pursuing the wrong vocation.

I have recently received a total hip replacement. I could not fault my from pre op assessment to admission and discharge. They were very busy on pre op admission but the nurse explained that they were 3 staff short and to bare with them. Very efficient process. On day of admission I was shown to Ward 207, everyone was friendly and reassuring especially the anaesthetist who explained everything. I had a Spinal and sedation, I was apprehensive but I slept through most of it! From theatre I went back to Ward 206. The staff were amazing, very helpful, caring, patience and friendly. I was an inpatient for 5 days due to a complication unrelated to my hip, and it was made better by the staff who went above and beyond Having no visitors made it a very long day but staff took time to chat , making it slightly less boring. Good work Ward 206

I have lived in London all my life up until 2years ago when I moved to Derbyshire to be near my Daughter. I had a very bad fall a couple of months ago and fractured my shoulder, I was seen at the Royal Derby and the care I got there was excellent. The treatment by the Doctors and Nurses was amazing and second to none, also the whole of the rest of the staff at the hospital were polite and friendly.

my father is currently on ward 405 and while there contracted what we were told was covid when in fact it was RSV. He tested negative for covid but no one seemed to know the diffferenxe and assumed it was covid and treated him like a leper. He had personal effects missing that were not transferred from his original ward to his isolation room. I will be filing an official complaint .

We got to A&E as an emergency Friday evening. Ambulance staff who took him were superb. I have to say, I cannot thank the staff enough for the care they provided my partner on the SAU unit. The only thing we could do was provide chocolates to say thank you. He even forgot something there, so I called up, and they put it away for him. Amazing care, far superior than what we ever had from Queens Hospital Burton. Outstanding.

I've spent enough time with regular trips to hospitals to know which ones suck because of the lack of funding and which ones just suck. Derby is great. The staff genuinely seem to care. They are patient and kind. One of the best hospitals I've been in, and I've spent a lot of time visiting hospitals.

I spent 6 hours there waiting at the front desk with severe back pain. I couldn't move because the pain was paralyzing. The doctor said that as long as I can get back on my feet, I'm fine and told me to take painkillers. They don't treat the causes, they treat the symptoms. As usual, take paracetamol and go.

I recently had my second child at Derby hospital after a previous child at Burton and I just want to say how fantastic all the staff were who looked after me, especially Hannah who was with me for my labour and birth, she was so supportive, friendly and kind. As we're all the staff who helped to look after us. Midwives, doctors and everyone we saw during our stay. They all made the experience very comftable and special for us and I I felt very well cared for. Hayley Joe Jaxon & baby Esme 😊

This is literally the worse service ever. I’m currently in SAU waiting to be checked, all the surgeons are having chats and laughing while i am sitting here for 7hours. Not even one of them has came to me to ask how I feel,l. I went up to ask how long it would take, they just said they had no clue… Literally disappointed.

Really excellent treatment throughout, from the 111 call, via ambulance to A&E, Medical Assessment Unit, CT scan, Surgical Assessment Unit, overnight stay, emergency keyhole surgery, post-operative care and same day discharge minus my gallbladder. Everyone from cleaner to consultant was exceptionally courteous, caring, responsive and carried out their jobs really well. I can't thank them enough for the care I have received.

Communication between wards and with patients family is terrible. It's unfortunate that we do not live in Derby and therefore unable to visit as much as we would like. This has been explained a number of times, to each person that we talk to on the phone. It took 16 phone calls just to locate where our 87 year old father inlaw was and once located they had no idea about his circumstances or his next of kin contact detail. I understand they are busy but the communication is worrying.

I went in emergency child centre at Derby Royal Hospital with my 4 months old baby due to my baby has tested positive for COVID-19 , she was with high temperature and I couldn’t drop it down all day so the GP and 111 send me to the emergency centre. When i arrived there one very rude nurse did check to my daughter and asked me what’s the reason for we went there. I explained to her that she is with high temperature and I can’t drop it down and also that GP send me there. She said that temperature is only numbers and she don’t care about how much is the temperature. Also said that she doesn’t understand why the GP and 111 send us there. When i asked how much should be the temperature to start worry about it, she just repeat that doesn’t matter temperature because this is just number.

Arrived for 9am for my partner to have a chest scan. We were booked in very quickly and had the scan very soon after. Unfortunately there seemed to he a lack of staff to see to us after that. We had to wait a further 3hrs for the results during this time a little old lady had asked to be taken to the toilet twice and was ignored finally the doctor called my partner in and said the results were not through yet and he would ring my partner at home.why could this not have been an option at the beginning of the appointment? o

Visited A&E today (because it's called "Accident & Emergency ie: I'd fallen on my back (accident) and could barely walk (emergency) What an absolute joke. They seriously couldn't give a monkeys (unless you don't speak English and have an earache - then they're all over you) First time in my life I've actually had to *leave* A&E because I was in too much pain to sit there and suffer! (After 4 hours of being ignored and watching people arrive *after* me get seen *before* me!) They're seriously couldn't give a toss! Disgusted doesn't come close! Won't forget this!

I have just returned home after spending a few days in the Cardiovascular Unit. From the moment I arrived there I received first class treatment from the staff. The nurses were very knowledgeable, kind, friendly and understanding. I felt very safe in their hands as they meticulously looked after me, ensuring that all the required procedures were completed timeously and with compassion. Definitely a team the management should be very proud of. They are providing an excellent service and I send them my heartfelt thanks.

I'd love to be able to give a review of my experience in the hospital, but I can't. I had an appointment there today for my yearly CPAP check. Drove around for 1.5.hrs trying to find a parking space, but couldn't so never made the appointment!! Waste of mine and the NHS's time!! I'm also disabled and when trying to join the queue for the disabled card park all I got was seriously bad attitude from the security guard and told to move on!!

I'd be thrilled to include all the seceran doctors nurses and staff at the Royal Derby Hospital in the review. Alongside the amazing Midwife John, the entire team of nurses and staff at Ward 314 deserves a round of applause! From the moment we arrived, we were greeted with smiles and a genuine sense of care from every single person we encountered. The nurses were attentive, compassionate, and knowledgeable, ensuring that Patricija and my son received the highest level of care throughout their stay. Not only did they provide excellent medical care, but they also took the time to offer emotional support and reassurance during what can be an overwhelming time. Their dedication and expertise were evident in every interaction, making us feel like we were in the best possible hands. The staff at the Royal Derby Hospital, Ward 314, truly made us feel like part of a family. Their teamwork, professionalism, and genuine kindness created a warm and welcoming atmosphere that made the entire experience more comfortable and memorable. We are incredibly grateful for the exceptional care provided by Midwife John, the nurses, and all the staff at the Royal Derby Hospital, Ward 314. They made the journey of welcoming our son into the world an unforgettable one. We couldn't have asked for a better team! If you're looking for a hospital where every member of the staff goes above and beyond to ensure the well-being of you and your growing family, the Royal Derby Hospital is the place to be. Trust me, Naz, you'll be in the best hands possible.

A really good experience diagnosed well and get the right treatment, I went there on Wednesday after getting appointment on phone in emergency, staff is good and nice , waiting time was almost half an hour . A female dr singh is an excellent person and ofcourse a dr as well. Treated me so nicely and listen the whole problem patiencely I am so grateful 🙏. I felt like behaviour is really really important more than medicines for a patient which works like a magic sometimes. It can make easy to understand the problems and issues of health system for a new person like me , recently moved from Spain , and so many unexpected things were going on , and I was getting more sick mentally than physically.

I had enough problems with the 8th tooth that it was impossible to simply pull it out. I needed surgery. Department for ORAL AND MAXILLO FACIAL SURGERY was the best. The nurses took great care of me and were all polite and kind. They did a great job. The surgeon also performed an operation on my jaw. Everything ended very well. I am incredibly glad that it was in this place that I had surgery and now I can have a full life. The surgeon was a professional. I want to say thank you🙏

The GAU dept rang me the next morning promptly and gave me a same day appointment. I'm from Birmingham originally and my experience here in Derby was far better

Fantastic support from the ophthalmology department when I was there as an emergency patient… in, seen by two consultants and tear in my retina lasered in just over an hour and a half.. Amazing! I can’t thank them enough!

they can't help my daughter, I have abdominal pain for a long time and she keeps coming back. They told me that I have to wait for the appointment. It's a disaster. They should be ashamed of such a service. I normally despaired. The hospital is so modern, but when you need to help a person, they can't because they don't know, especially that they take blood all the time and nothing to be ashamed of

Terrible communication. No effort made to contact my partner after surgery for follow up. Eventually contacted the hospital and then no further contact when responsibility of the hospital to book further appointments. Level of care totally unsatisfactory!

NHS Stuff at Royal Derby Hospital, including doctors, nurses, and assistants, work hard around the clock with great professionalism, empathy, and devotion. I would like to thank Ward 304 for taking great care of my mum.

I needed to go to Day Surgery for a minor operation. Ms Wilkinson and her team, who looked after me on Monday were all fantastic. I wish to thank them all for the great care and attention they gave me. You all do a brilliant job, keep up the good work.

Had a minor operation at the day hands case. A nurse took me to where I needed to be from the main entrance after I got in the wrong lift. All the staff I met were great, polite and made me feel relaxed and welcomed. A big thank you to all, your doing a great job

7 hour wait to even get to a clinician and still no sign - give up not worth the bother why have an A&E department if you are running it with 5 triage nurses and 1 clinician week day middle of the day seriously.?!

Not sure if it was just a one off but my 76year old father was kept in for 2 days and a night for a few tests, the whole time he was left in a waiting room sat on a steel chair ! I assumed he would have been on a ward. Personally I think that's disgusting
