Gateway Market is a restaurant, bakery, and select grocer all-in-one. Gateway market offers fresh raw seafood and meat, plants, seasonings and cheeses, pastries and more. You can find gifts here and a great breakfast or lunch. The restaurant is connected to the market via walk way which really enhances the experience. Gateway’s menu includes Your classic breakfast items with special enhancements. The lunch menu most often includes chicken, potatoes, vegetables and more. Gateway has a salad bar priced by weight and fresh raw meats. Some of the market meal item also include prepared foods such as sushi, stuffed baked potatoes, and pizzas. These items are great to purchase and bake at home. The grocer is geared toward organic natural and higher scale ingredients. The produce is fresh and most items sold at gateway are steps above what you’ll find in your local grocery stores. From seasonings, sauces, and wine to flowers, cheese and cards. Gateway has something for everyone. Gateway is priced above average for most places of its kind in the area but service is consistently good and I have no complaints about it quality ingredients and offerings.

Amazing food! Best cod I have eaten in a while. Service slow a lot of employees in the front of the kitchen standing around! I would say a lil overstaffed.

Honestly everything on their menu is pretty tasty I’ve been eating here for quite a few years now. I highly recommend that everyone tries their onion rings. They are super crispy and the seasoning is unreal.

Visited Gateway Market Cafe on a Monday afternoon. It was packed, but had a solid lunch crowd. Had a burger with quinoa salad and fries. The food was great, and the quinoa salad was the real star. Food is focused on wholesome ingredients, so you feel good after you leave (except the scotcheroo I had for dessert).

Normally, I love this place and frequent here. I am not sure if the cashier was having a bad day or this is her norm. I may suggest a baked good. Mel or her name tag said Kelly was uninviting, unpleasant and made me feel like I was bothering her. I literally just asked for my flowers to be wrapped. She didn't ask what color of tissue paper and just slapped it on lazy! Like come on girl .... This is for someone's birthday l! I come here for quality customer service and exceptional products. That was not what happened today.

Heath food grocery store with a restaurant built in. Was really impressed. Big wine section in the back. Food pictured is the chicken club with sweet potato fries. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

The quality and selection has changed. The fish and chips. Very bad,so much breading very little fish. The coleslaw was bitter and wasn't worth eating. I used to really enjoy this place. I know it's my choice where I dine. It won't be there anymore.

I would most definitely rate this a 5/5 experience. It was my first time coming to Gateway market. I was blown away by the selection they have. They even have several dairy free, gluten-free, and vegan options! The cashiers ( especially Bre ) were friendly/ sociable and they have the option for paper bags! Overall I had a fantastic shopping experience. Thanks gateway market!

Always love this market. Sometimes a bit pricey but I find myself checking things out and buying a lot of stuff here. Really miss those molasses cookies though!!! Had clam chowder here tonight of the hot bar and damn good!!!

Good vegan options, clearly marked. The tofu banh mi was especially delicious. The vegetarian chili was filling and delicious. I like the variety of hot sauces they keep on hand. This is a great place to meet up with a group.

Wow! Wonderful selection of mouth-watering menu items fit for every taste. I feared for a long wait in the Sunday lunch rush but our food came out fast and delicious! Pick up your groceries on the way out!

Used to be good, now this place is bad at being a restaurant. Ordered tofu Bahn Mi, used to be my favorite sandwich in town

The food is not that great. They also mess up our order. Only one Cubano but they charged for two. Do not order the noodle or ramen dishes. They were just noodles with 1 egg. And didn't taste that good either. Maybe we ordered the wrong thing and just got a salad instead because that's what other people around us ordered. The place is crowded though with plenty of tables to use. Amble parking spaces. They have outdoor seating but it wasn't clean when we were there. It is connected to a small market that has a hot food section along with a sushi section for grab and go. Overall, we would not come back.

It's a clean environment with great customer service. I'm not a fan of healthy foods being priced so high. I feel like our country is a 0 out of 10 when it comes to healthy options being affordable. You want $5 for a half a gallon of milk made out of oatmeal? You are aware that a cow is more expensive to have than the price of oatmeal right? Grains and vegetables without the cost of chemical are more expensive? Stores like this are killing Americans.

Stop for breakfast on Saturday morning. Staff is very disinterested in helping anybody. More interested in talking to each other. Used the tabasco sauce and somebody had removed the stopper in the entire bottle dumped out on my plate. However they offered no assistance are no offer to remake the food.

This is a really nice place and so nice to have it close by UnityPoint while my boyfriend is hospitalized. Their hot food bar meatloaf, mac and cheese, and mashed potatoes were so delicious and were a nice break and a homemade tasting meal as a break from hospital food. Their pies and cheesecakes are awesome as well. Prices are fair for the quality.

Very pleasant & well stocked. I've been wanting to come by -- a friend stops by often & posts of tasty morsels I made a simple order at the cafe. It was hot & ready quickly. They packaged it well, but for the amount & three hot liquids, I wish a box had been offered...or piece of cardboard. A Des Moines landmark of quality & great customer service.

Gateway Market catering had a really great selection of food and appetizers for our wedding. They provided appetizers for our cocktail hour and also provided alcohol for us. Kelly was fantastic to work with and her and her team were truly professional and knew exactly what to do. She was also willing to work with us on special food requests to make sure our guests with allergies were safe.

We had Gateway Market cater our wedding and they were great! They have tons of different options at all price points. The food is pretty good for the price. Kelly was easy to work with and very knowledgeable of our venue (the botanical gardens) which helped a lot!

Great place for select items (nice breads, cheese, and wine). But I must say, I always laugh when I see those tiny dry pomegranates with $3 price tags (each). Gateway, do you actually sell any pomegranates?

Excellent food! Almost every dish myself or my partner/friends have tried has been excellent. Service is efficient and there’s plenty of seating. Popular place for a reason. I often get random cravings for their guacamole and homemade, fluffy chips! Vegan/plant based friendly, plenty of parking available.

Love coming here for specialty items. Customers for a very long time. Who is overseeing the hot food bar? Everything looks old. They place it out in the morning and nobody refills or stirs it nor takes care of it. The hot food used to be really good when they dished it up for the customer. Ever since it’s now a hot bar to help yourself it is total trash. Please pay attention the quality. Needs help!

The food here is amazing! I got a French toast with syrup and berries and they play the best music in the building. It also has a built in marketplace and the kids menus are friendly. There's a freezer section for bottled drinks and the design is next level. Whether you wanna go eat or grocery shopping, this is the place for you. Much gives the airport vibes tbh which I love

Great store! Loved the selection of food products and they have a hot buffet bar too where you can get something good and hot to go! And quite a nice wine selection! Definitely recommend this place!

Love meeting my friends here for lunch. The food is delicious, made with fresh ingredients, and served quickly! I like that they serve a mixture of comfort food from all around the world! The grocery store is also a great place to stop for all of your organic, dietary-restricted needs, as well as a place where you can find a lot of ingredients you won't see in run-of-the-mill stores.

We mostly go to Gateway Market for the food. I love their wraps, they have tasty soups and just overall a lot of options to choose from. I used to love their mac and cheese but feel like it’s been a little lacking lately. I recently tried the ramen and that was really tasty, tender pork and good broth. Basically two meals. Sometimes service is a little slow and the tables don’t get cleaned very quickly, but the staff is usually friendly and food comes out hot and fresh. The grocery store side is more of your high-end/hard-to-find elsewhere type products. We love getting fresh South Union bread when we stop in, but usually don’t buy much else as it’s in the expensive side.

I just love Gateway market! I am so glad that I don’t live close by. Otherwise I would spend all of my money there. I love stopping whenever I have to be in the downtown area for chicken tortilla soup! The salad bar a hot case bar is so amazing. You have to pick up the focaccia bread which is brought in fresh daily. They have a $10 wine section with some amazing wine choices. My kids love stopping in there because they have an entire section of gummy candies and of course we are obsessed with the homemade monster cookies !!! There is no way that you would be disappointed if you stopped for lunch or groceries at Gateway market !

The spinach artichoke dip is probably one of the best I’ve had. And there is this sauce that is otherworldly on the onion rings! (I recommend the maple mustard and Cajun aioli) I love this place. Always quality food.

Sorry for this sad picture, but I forgot to post the picture of my food when it came out, but it looked so good that I forgot. I would recommend getting the spicy pork belly ramen. Nice and smokey with good flavor. I also enjoyed browsing the store.

Gateway Market Cafe used to be a place that I came with my Grandmother to eat and the food was amazing-fresh, hot, and tasted good. I am so disappointed because I ordered my food, picked it up 20 minutes later and mashed potatoes were cold and brown, biscuit so dry, I about choked, and the chicken tasted worst than I've EVER had there. There was soggy breading, it tasted funky like it was spoiled and didn't have seasoning. The meat was so very nasty. I can't even explain. Sadly, I don't know if I'll come back. It just didn't taste right.

The menu has an amazing variety. Really, something for everyone. I had loaded nachos and they're built on Gateway's tasty flour tortilla chips. My husband had the chicken club and fries. It was juicy and very tasty as well. We were there at about 1:45 on a Saturday and it was pretty busy. Things moved right along, however.

I love the place and have not been here for almost 3 years, I moved out of town. It seemed in those 3 years that the cleanliness has go e down, however, the food is still good and the employees I came across were friendly, helpful and made the experience so nice. Thank you

Phenomenal selection at the hot bar as well as pre packaged salads and sandwiches. I literally did laps around the food because there were too many choices (and I'm VERY picky). I couldn't wait to get back to the house to eat!

Great spot for esoteric finds, can be limiting for more daily grocery shopping due to lack of selection and higher prices. Very odd phenomenon, most people don't seem to use the provided parking spaces, instead parking in the middle of the driving portion where there are no lines or anything. Not sure why this happens, but it can make maneuvering to park in a legitimate spot quite the challenge.

Some of the staff were VERY rude. So turned off by their behavior. I did not feel comfortable. Will not be coming back and will be taking my business elsewhere. As a business owner myself I think a store meeting needs to be had to chat with your employees about appropriate customer service and overall behavior. Just awful.

Nice place to spend an evening. There are many options provided to explore different wines and food. They allow customers to purchase wine and food - and never pressure customers to move on. I believe Gateway is trying to get back to normal. Our takeout order took around a half hour to bring out - and staff seemed stressed when they dropped the order off at our table. Other than that, we had an enjoyable experience with wine and appetizers. Gateway is recommended.

Gateway market is awesome food!! The American Berger double is one of the best I’ve ever had. possibly even the best it was very modern but pricey as well. But overall for the modern vibe it’s worth it.

Burger was good, only problem was it was not even close to what I ordered. Was rung up correctly but received a completely different Burger. Did find out until got home. Guess the cook knew what I wanted better than I did. Place has gone downhill the past several years.

Probably the single nicest breakfast sandwich I've ever had! Ciabatta, real cheese, lettuce and tomato really elevate the traditional eggs-ham-bacon recipe. I'm grateful for the team opening early enough to start my road trip day so properly!

What happened to this place?! They used to have one of the best Nashville hot chicken sandwiches ever and now there is no spice to it at all. I asked why and no explanation . This is the second time in a row that its been bad. The food has changed. Used to be 5 stars. Now barely 2.

  • 2/5 Kelly V. 1 year ago on Google
Tried the Nashville hot chicken sandwich. It was made with chicken strips that were all crunch and no meat. Decided to give them another try a couple weeks later. My black bean burger was cooked so long that the patty was black and hard. I’ll go to the market, but won’t be retuning to the cafe. Not a chance.

Love this place!! The food is varied and delicious from breakfast, to lunch, to dinner and vegan dishes too. They have a Kids menu, too. Great staff and very clean. While waiting for your food or after eating, browse or shop the "biggest little" grocery store with a fresh meat or fish counter that is beautiful. Its kind of interesting to see how much is in this Gateway Market. My goodness, the wine selection is uncanny, if you can't find the wine you want, they probably don't make it. Oh, and a bakery, too!! Outside patio. This place is a gem, take a look, have a bite. Enjoy!!

I absolutely love Gateway market. From the staff to the cafe and the overall selection of different food on the shelves. Great produce all around. I want to take time to just comment on the sushi counter! I am accustomed to eating at high quality Japanese restaurants and lived in Japan for a while. I am amazed at the quality here not only for a grocery store but all around! They don’t always have sashimi when I stop in probably because of the times I usually stop. Today I got a Marina plate with tuna and seaweed salad. I was blown away at the quality and the price. I’m 10.99 for what could cost double at a restaurant. Anyways. I went and sat in the cafe and enjoyed while getting some work done online. I finished it up and decided to go for another Marina plate (wanted just tuna again but they had a half and half so I got that) they even asked if I wanted them to make one with tuna. I said it was fine and it was! They are great and blew away my expectations. I usually stick to veggie rolls at grocery stores. I will be back at least once a week for lunch.
