Worst experience ever at a hotel!! I made a reservation weeks a head of time for my best friend's wedding which was being held in the hotel. I was told to call the day of my reservation in the morning for an early check in because they don't allow you to check-in til 4 pm and the wedding started at 445. I called morning of and was assured that if I got there by 3 pm I would be able to check in my room and get ready for the wedding. I arrived right at 3 pm and attempted to check into the room. I was told they weren't allowing early check ins. I explained what i was told earlier and I nicely asked for a manager. I was left waiting for approximately 30 minutes and was told the manager was on a phone call. Finally once she came out she didn't tell me I couldn't check in early. She told me they had no room for me because they had no water in part of the hotel, which they had known for awhile (as I watched 2 Buffalo Bills fans check in while I was waiting for her to come talk to me). All I was offered was a hotel in Dearborn which was at least 20-30 minutes from the hotel where the wedding was and I would have never been able to make it back for the wedding. They offered nothing for my inconvenience or even a place where we could change for the wedding. Absolutely unacceptable handling of our situation and I would beware of trying to stay in this hotel!

I recently stayed at the Marriott hotel in Detroit and unfortunately, I cannot recommend it. The hotel had an outdated feel to it and the room was not up to par with other hotels in the area. The furniture and decor were worn and in need of an update. One major disappointment was the lack of complimentary breakfast. Considering the price I paid for the room, I would have expected at least a basic breakfast to be included. The on-site restaurant was also quite expensive and didn't offer many options. While the staff was friendly and accommodating, it did not make up for the overall lackluster experience. Additionally, the location was not the most desirable, with limited dining and entertainment options in the immediate area. Overall, if you're looking for a comfortable and modern hotel in Detroit, I would recommend exploring other options. The Marriott hotel did not meet my expectations for the price I paid, and I cannot recommend it based on my experience.

Was told that I didn’t have a reservation, even after showing them the confirmation number from their own app, and from my email. Then forced to book new rooms (1 king bed each room when I had reserved 2 rooms with 2 double beds). The next morning my card was charged for 4 rooms, the original booking plus the 2 rooms I had to take when “there was no reservation”. I’m still trying to get reimbursed for the 2 extra rooms that were charged to the tune of $800! Poor experience here! And other than the lobby—the place isn’t all that nice other than location.

Guy at front desk was rude, felt racism towards whites, been coming to this property for 4 out of 5 years and always spoke very highly of it and now over front desk staff I will not be returning, very sad. Upon walking into room first thing we saw was a wet towel on floor, room was poorly cleaned and bed sheets where not even covering mattress completely leaving mattress corner exposed. I have always commended Detroit for its turn around in recent years and after this visit I have a whole new opinion. In a nutshell this is a great hotel to walk through lobby and admire cars and walk along river but I recommend you spend your dollars somewhere else.

Great location in Detroit. Walking distance to many places. Located within the Rene center, and just steps away from the lake walk. Highly recommended also, always great to be able to look at a the vehicles from above. Rooms were a little dated, but customer service was on point. The lounge was closed, but was given a coupon for breakfast. Food was great! The view from the gym you couldn’t get much better than that.

Wow! Amazing, intriguing, high rise, large hotel located within the General Motors (GM) Headquarters complex. Fascinating facility which includes shopping, dining, convention and meeting areas, as well as the Marriott Hotel. The hotel and GM complex is located in the heart of Downtown Detroit, on the river with great views of Canada on the opposite shore. The hotel and adjacent common areas are immaculate, well maintained and updated features and furniturings. The guestrooms are average in size and include really nice floor to ceiling windows. I was fortunate to have a room with a view of the river and the Canadian shore! My guestroom was quiet, well furnished and very clean. Guestroom features included very comfortable bedding, large flat screen TV and mini refrigerator. Naturally, you will find and have all the excellent amenities and services one expects from Marriott. However, you will probably find additional features and services unique to this large, high energy complex. My personal favorite is the rotating GM vehicle display on the lower level. I'm not generally a car enthusiast, but I and my colleague really enjoyed this interesting display (you will too!!) My colleague and I also enjoyed sitting outside on the river, directly across from the hotel. If you enjoy walking or running, you will enjoy these activities along the river walk. Finally, I must say "thank you" to a friendly and professional staff. My colleagues and I had a fantastic one night stay in this interesting, intriguing, exciting hotel.

My friend and I stayed at the Marriott last night to attend a concert and it was one of the worst hotel experiences that I have ever had. We arrived at 6pm for a concert beginning at 8pm. They were severely understaffed and the line to check in took an hour. When we finally got to the front desk at 7pm, we were informed that they did not have a room ready for us and couldn’t give an estimate on when one would be available. We had arrived to the hotel expecting to be able to get ready for the concert there and ended up having to do our makeup at a table in the lobby and change our clothes in the car. We had also ordered pizza to be delivered shortly after we arrived at the hotel and had to eat it in the parking garage since we were running so late for the concert. We missed the first 20 minutes of the show due to the long check in line and having to get ready without any actual space. We didn’t get a notification that our room was ready until after 11pm. When we arrived to the room, there was a single hand towel, the toilet bowl was stained from the previous guest, and the room was missing many of the standard amenities like shampoo, cups, etc. We then found a BED BUG in the bed. For 400 dollars a night this was an absolute nightmare and ruined our trip on so many levels. The concert tickets were incredibly expensive as well so this significantly impacted our enjoyment of even the show itself. Not to mention the room was a gift from my mom for my birthday. The only reason I am giving 2 stars is because the manager who assisted us after finding the bed bug and the security guard that took our report were very helpful and kind. We received another room but it was after midnight when we got into the new room. Don’t bother staying here if you have an event to attend or if you’d like a clean room.

The location was great for my business trip and the GM car museum in the lower level was great. When I arrived, the carpet in my room was dirty. Looked like they forgot to vacuum. Woke up the next morning and wrapped myself in a comforter to keep warm. When I removed comforter, I noticed a rather large coffee stain on it. Over the next three days, I went down to the front desk to request that my room be cleaned each day. The room was never touched. Will never go back to that hotel.

Doing my years serving my fellowship conventions we have come back to the Marriott for several years now and we have found it to be more than suffice the space we need for 4 days and three nights events. The front desk lobby staff always have a warm greeting, smile and more than patience with the overwhelming guests (smiling) we bring. Housekeeping busboys & service staffs are readily accommodating our convention members and guests. All ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ to the Marriott management employee staffs.

Upon check in, met with with less than friendly staff. Once my daughter and I entered rooms, air did not work in her room. Made 2 calls for help. Went To front desk to get help. Finally, showed up to room. Wasn’t fixed properly. Her room never cooled that night. Called 2x more, 2nd night still not fixed. She slept in my room. At check out, $50 credit. Really? That’s all? Would have to talk to manager. Card filled out. Supposedly put on his desk. Called manager. No response yet. Breakfast, wait staff rude, except Sabrina. Took 90 min to get Breakfast. Sabrina helped facilitate comping our breakfast. She was only bright spot in the service during our entire stay.

From the front desk greeting and throughout the check in process the customer service was excellent. We were greeted and taken care of by Penny. She was very friendly, hospitable and did all she could to accommodate us. We were celebrating a special birthday and were initially scheduled to go out of town. However. This staycation was just what we needed. Getting the chance to see your city as a tourist can be just as good as travelling. The Marriott afforded us the perfect balance of activity and well deserved rest. Thank to the Marriott Detroit staff for being a blessing at a very special time.

My stay at the Detroit Marriott at the Renaissance Center was nothing short of outstanding. The hotel's location right on the riverfront is breathtaking, offering stunning views of the city and the Detroit River. The rooms were clean, spacious, and comfortable. The staff was incredibly accommodating, and their attention to detail was impressive. The hotel amenities are top-notch, and I particularly enjoyed the restaurants and bars on-site. If you're looking for a luxurious and memorable stay in Detroit, this Marriott is an excellent choice. I can't wait to return.

Sunday the 19th was my Husband and I's first year Wedding Anniversary, Check-in was simple and quick, we were greeted with in seconds from coming off the elevators. I wish i knew the women's name whom checked us in, she was very kind and showed us great Customer service. Our room was very clean and we had what I believe to have the best City view anyone could imagine. The next morning we went down for breakfast and was greeted with another wonderful women who went above and beyond her job to make us comfortable. We will be back again, and if you love a good City view ask for room 5419!!!!!!!

Make sure to use HoteIDully.ᴄᴏm when booking any place. This web site will compare hundreds of hotel sites and normally will have prices much cheaper than others! You're welcome :)! This resort is one of the highest rated in this area. I've been staying here for years. If you decide to stay here you will love it I'm sure! Absolutely beautiful hotel, easy check-in, kind staff. Rooms were beautiful and beds were so comfortable. The hotel is huge so it’s somewhat complicated to navigate, but it’s worth the exploration of you have time. Located on the US/Canadian border and near many awesome places to spend time.

One of the worst experiences I’ve had with a hotel. Came here for a work conference. To start, they forced me to use a personal credit card instead of the company card I had on file. Once I obtained the physical card from my colleague the front desk refused to change it out. Extremely rude staff and first impression. Got to my room to find it hadn’t been cleaned from the previous guest. Super disgusting and the hotel staff never followed through to turn down the room. The conference I was attending was clearly being attended to by incompetent management, as it would seem they weren’t prepared to transition between events and tables weren’t prepared and ready. The facilities are in poor condition: bathroom doors broken in the public bathroom; faucets not working properly. For how expensive this place is, there is nothing redeemable about the services or facilities to justify it. Staff needs training and management seems absent. Beautiful view but that is about the most positive thing I can say.

Great stay, very friendly staff who really made the effort to make you feel welcome no matter their department. Some might say it's a little dated but I thought it was very nice. Ok. We got a great rate on a room for the MI State/Penn State game at Ford field. This place is very cool and HUGE! But they still have rooms with twin beds, yes you read that right, twin beds and bad pillows! Room seemed clean until we found a dirty kids sock behind the curtain. Checking in staff was not very friendly. I know they were super busy but no excuse! And don't think about going to the Starbucks in the hotel as today 11-25-2023 they had nothing. No food and hardly anything for coffee.

The accessible rooms for disabled people could be better. The bars need to be on all sides in the bathroom, not just behind the toilet. It was hard for me to maneuver and not fall. The service was sub-par. Don't think you're going to call the front desk and get an answer. I had to use the chat feature on the Marriott app to get a response. The Fuell restaurant has very limited options, and their service is sub-par. The other restaurants you need a reservation. The workers at the pantry have an attitude problem. I was spoken to nasty because my card was not in the reader all the way. I also witnessed another employee shove food at a patron. Meanwhile, we are the patrons spending hundreds of dollars at the hotel. For it to be a high-rise hotel with a valet, the rooms could look a lot better. The chairs and furniture looked old.

I was here for a work trip and immediately had problems checking in. Despite a contract stating otherwise, check-in staff insisted I use my personal card to put a $200 hold on the account. Normal for an individual; against our business agreement, and they refused to fix the problem despite agreeing our company was correct. My room was entered despite putting up the privacy sign, and I found my toothbrush pushed up against the wall. There were hairs and part of a cork in the room when I arrived and visible stains on the pillow. I find that stuff minor, but it is off-putting. I woke up after two days there and my room was redolent with stale cigarette smell that permeated the area when the heat turned on. Day 3 I coughed up brown gunk as it was getting colder and the heat was on more frequently. My interactions with staff went poorly whenever I mentioned my company; at check-out, they once again tried to get my personal card information. The food vendors were lovely; all staff was super friendly, the food was decent, and the pantry area was well stocked. I'd separately give them 4 stars. However it was not enough to salvage the experience; I felt constantly at odds with hotel staff, like they were trying to catch me doing something wrong to equalize the situation. The view of Canada is lovely, and I found myself wishing I was staying across the water at the Caesar.

A three-star hotel (barely) worthy of a three-star rating. The location is great - being able to step outside to the river walk was nice - and being able to walk around the GM showcase area is neat, but the hotel itself is *meh* The rooms need an upgrade and feel dirty. I don’t know the last time the rooms were vacuumed, but it could just be the carpet that looks 30-years old. Of course, the long gross black hair in the bathroom didn’t exactly qualify as a “pleasant surprise.” The ice machines were undergoing some sort of service and so were missing from at least some of the floors, but the staff (who are wonderful) did bring ice to the room. Overall, OK if you’re there for a conference or just for a night (or two). Otherwise, might want to consider elsewhere.

Excellent service here. It's great to visit again for the Detroit Jazz Festival and the hotel's location is perfect for easy access to a lot of the various stages in the area during the festival weekend. The rooms seem renovated since I was last here about 4 years ago. The view from my room on the 54th floor in the West Tower is quite nice. The Fuel lobby restaurant and bar is open, airy and quite comfortable. The bar chairs have a high end luxurious quality to them.

Having dinner at the restaurant on the top of the building was a wonderful experience. The view and cuisine was delicious. My only complaint was that when you are paying top dollar for a meal detail is very important. Dishes should NEVER be removed before everyone has finished. It is very poor form. Also, the restrooms need better attention.

The hotel as a whole needs an upgrade. The room in particular are dated. I didn’t get room service the first couple of nights, so I had to go downstairs to inquire about the service. They said it’s not on request and seemed confused why it hadn’t been done yet. They scheduled it and it was done, but very mediocre. As others have said it was pretty obvious vacuuming isn’t done. I actually found old toenails clippings on the floor and after turnover Service they were still there. Getting around the complex was super confusing and the signage they have wasn’t a tremendous amount of help. It seems it would make sense the elevator would take you to all the floors, and the floors it doesn’t take you to, you shouldn’t have to walk around to find a working escalator. There is an annoying amount of excess noise, everywhere in and around the complex that seems to carry and echo. Great location and walkable to nearly everything and I did feel safe in downtown. Detroit was really nice to visit.

This hotel is so nice, the breakfast at the restaurant downstairs is delicious. I sat at the bar and Katie took great care of me. I had a workout on the 40th floor and had the pleasure of meeting and conversing with sweet Ms.Jackson. She keeps it very clean and absolutely loves her job there. She deserves everything in the world. I will be returning. Thank you all so much.

Did not have room service for 3 days. Took 3 phone calls and 1 hour to get fresh towels. It was debated how many times I actually called until the operator actually verified it - why would I have lied? Was told they did not have towels on hand and they had to call the vendor(?). One trash can per room which quickly became overflowed. Two rolls of toilet paper per room which would have run out if we had not checked out. I can't imagine how many calls that would have taken. Beds are very comfortable. No ventilation in bathroom. Food and service at Andiamos was great as well as Fuel. The hotel does have a lovely location and the staff was friendly.

Will never stay here again. Confirmed early check in when I called Marriott the day before to ensure I would be fine. It is now after 4 and I missed the start of the event I needed to attend and have been waiting in the lobby since 1:30 pm. Was told an hour wait at 2:30 and then another hour wait at 4. Hotels know when they are fully booked and this is very unacceptable when I called and confirmed my check in AND time the prior day, if they couldn’t accommodate my check in time knowing the day before would have been extremely helpful and I would have made other plans. Spoke with the manager and she just stated they are sorry and offered a bottle of water…

The most disgusting hotel I’ve ever stayed in and for the price we paid it’s unbelievable how careless they are with the cleaning. The first room they gave us, the toilet bowl had stains of you know what in it. The second room they gave us smelled like smoke and it was clear that the sheets hadn’t been changed. See the pictures for the dirty makeup stains on the sheets and other unidentifiable stains. We asked for new sheets which took an hour to be brought to us. The old sheets and new sheets were brown because of how old and worn they were. I’m so Disgusted to be here and uncomfortable with all the visible stains. It was like I was in a motel on the side of the highway except the pay was exorbitant. The outside which was the renaissance center was deceptive. Please don’t stay here, I beg you.

Location is easy walking distance to Ford Field. Our room was cool, but we could not get it any cooler for sleeping :( Also, the gel body wash and hair conditioner bottles in the shower were either low or completely out. Shampoo was fine. We had also brought our own so not a huge deal but could have been. The staff were all friendly and helpful. Our room was very expensive but we booked last minute the same weekend of a Pride Parade and Taylor Swift concert.

This hotel is totally "fine", meaning nothing extraordinary or terrible. The rooms seemed very dated and weren't cleaned daily unless you requested it. No room service, Starbucks is open sporadically and weird hours. Fuel restaurant has decent food but crazy expensive. However, the staff is great!! Super friendly, nice, and welcoming.

Our room was not clean. There were sunglasses, advil, cheerios and loose change on the floor in the main room. There were hairs all over the floor and tub in the bathroom. All of the bottles of shampoo, conditioner, body wash and lotion were empty. Everyone we talked to was accommodating and kind. The location is beautiful. There's a lot to offer on site and nearby. I expected more out of the room for over $300/ night.

I've stayed here before and for an older hotel they keep it up. They upgraded my room this time but the tub doesn't drain well. The view is great and the staff is attentive. There is plenty of dining options to choose from on location and they have a great bar & lounge if your looking for a good cocktail.

My husband and I came for our 16th Anniversary and enjoyed ourselves. The City view was beautiful. The guest service who checked us in was "Larvene" was AWESOME! She was was professional and friendly. She made us aware of the events that was taking place Downtown. For Example-Band Saturday at Andiamo's, Concert with ElDabarge, and she also promoted the Pantry on the 3rd floor. We ate breakfast there both days and the food was great. The only thing I wish we could have experienced was the Bar being open on the 3rd floor. I do understand that Covid has limited us in a lot of areas. So I wasn't upset. Hopefully next year everything will be back fully running

Wonderful professional welcome. Room was perfect, clean and with a great view. Quiet and well appointed. Dinner up at Highlands was incredible and worth the trip or stay on its own! Service and drinks at bar in the lobby were friendly with a solid selection. Only hiccup was that it wasn't clear where to park...not a big deal but more info up front would be nice. Super great service by staff at the hotel. Glad to see this iconic hotel on its game!

I do not recommend the Ren Cen Marriott!!! There was ABSOLUTELY NO service provided. No valet, have to park, walk and carry your luggage (s), bags etc. They are not compensating or validating parking! No bellman to assist you. And if you are not in great physical shape don't even think about booking this place. It is a trek!! Not a relaxing getaway (hardwork)! The room refrigerator was dirty, along with the bathroom floor! And the head board was full of dust like it hadn't been wiped since before COVID! Well, Front Desk was nice! 😏 this hotel was not worth half of the cost!!! I called corporate! Unacceptable!!

  • 4/5 Senan F. 2 years ago on Google
Ok here we go. The only down side to this place is valet parking close at 10pm. So you have to park near in the public crowded parking lot. Which is a bit of a walk. Its really confusing how they have the elevator close at 10pm which means you need to take 2 elevators to your room. Also i arrived Saturday night it was really really crowded i couldnt even hear the lady at the check in. So when i booked the room online i chose a good room with a river view. 2nd day i called to make sure i get a high floor and river view and they said ok. That was 2 weeks before arriving. When i arrived the lady gave me 22nd floor and no river view so i asked nicely since its my birthday can you please give me a high floor to enjoy a view. She said no rooms then she checked and guess what. She gave me 60th floor and river view check the pics. Everyone is so nice and helpful. Room was clean. The bed covers were a bit old and stains of everything. I brought my own so i was good there. Everything else about the room was amazing the view the mattress is comfy. Like i said only downside is the parking!!. Everything was closed in the hotel i think cuz of covid. Thanks again. 😊

Really nice place to stay. The only issue I have is if you do an extended stay of multiple days, you have to request room cleaning, linens, towels and such. However, the rooms are very nice and comfortable, the staff is friendly and helpful and lots of nice shops to visit. The view outside from the rooms is a great view of Canada and the city of Detroit itself which is really brilliant in the night 🌃 scapes. Thoroughly enjoyed my stay.

Good service but the front desk was almost always slammed so you do have to wait in line. I got the digital key in the app but it did not work in the elevator so I had to go line up at the front desk to get a key. The lobby bar has a pretty small menu but the wait staff worked fast even when they were overflowing. A busy hotel with very little amenities within short walking distance. Good views of the river from many of the rooms.

This was the nastiest Marriott I've ever stayed at. Not only was there black sludge on my blanket, it was very apparent the room hadn't been cleaned. We stayed in a group of 16 and no one's room was clean. One of our members didn't have a shower curtain, another had blood on their bed! It was disturbing and I'd stay just about anywhere else for your own safety and hygiene.
