Honest johns not very honest. They charge for ice nit telling us in our drinks, charged fir doubles in our mixed drink not telling us. Be careful because our party of 5 had an automatic 20% gratuity added. We almost double tipped. Food was great. Adequate priced. Service was normal, Drinks were great but the added nickel and dime cost for ice and sneaky double shots really bothered us.

Honest?Johns is the true heart of DETROIT in the shadow of the DETROIT orchestra hall. Our waitress, Racansda was the hard working soul of this fantastic bar. Her charm, personality and great ability to serve as our waitress reinforced my love for this establishment. Ordering the Rueben sandwich with French fries is the perfect meal. Dre, Mike and Mystic created a magical taste moment in the kitchen. This is no ordinary bar food but a DELICIOUS and savory experience that brings me back. This looks s what is great about DETROIT. Owner, Johnny, has created a wonderful escape into fun and food and friends. The bathrooms alone are worth the trip. But once you sink your teeth into this Rueben you get authentic corned beef not something sliced out of the package but the real deal. I feel the rest of the food on the menu is just as good but I am addicted. This is my place to go. DETROITers are known for our great taste in food. You cannot go wrong! I was born in DETROIT and I am PROUD of Honest?John’s offerings. I shall return!!!!

I had a great first experience here. The waitress was positive and professional. The atmosphere was lively. The food was delicious. Try the funnel cake fries.

OMG! What’s a great brunch location on a Sunday at 9:30am. Parking is plentiful and the place was packed. The service, food and crowd was great. Don’t get dressed up and by all means bring the little ones. I had eggs, bacon, potatoes and toast. Oh and YES …. Bloody Mary… several! I highly recommend going to this location and you won’t be disappointed!

Bad idea. Nothing came out on time. Fries were undercooked. Corned beef was good bread was toasted just right. Nice and fresh. I would never come back. Service was horrible. Order how you want it delivered to your table. If you ask for a salad. Ask for it first. Pickles were delicious and crunchy

Here on Thanksgiving morning. So many families, so fun. Definately a parade, football, turkey trot kinda vibe. Food is yummy as always. Had Breckenridge Christmas Ale on tap. A couple of stouts would have been nice.

Phenomenal late night menu! They have one of the best fried chicken pitas around. Shredded lettuce, crispy chicken, gooey melted cheese, and delicious ranch. Maybe I was a few drinks in before ordering this but it was delish. The chicken and waffles is a classic as well. Crispy hot chicken and a buttery golden delicious waffle. They have good mixed drinks, beer on tap, and a friendly staff. Def worth a visit anytime of the day or night.

Wow!! Their brunch menu was a great variety of choices between lunch and breakfast. We got everything from traditional breakfast and Reubens. The waitress recommended The Eastsider Reuben- and so would I. The chili and the burritos were equally good. They thankfully keep the lighting low on a Saturday morning to help with a good late Friday night lol

Great staff. Nice decor. Hipster vibe for sure. The bathrooms were super creative. Graffiti style walls. The tables were all right next to each other and too close for my liking. If you don't like confined spaces then don't go here. . Food was great! I had the Party Melt. It is for sure a must have! Curly fries were good but cold when served. Still tasted good though. All in all a great place to have lunch and prices were reasonable!

Went for a quick breakfast. Not disappointed at all. I've been here in the afternoon too. Great drink menu. The hash browns were delicious like tater tots and the veggie Scramble was really good. Attentive, friendly service.

We went here because they were one of the only places open late night down town Detroit. The food was good. I had a Ruben . The home made pastrami was delicious, my friend had a BLT and said it was good also. One other friend had the burger and wasn’t happy with it . I tried it, it was just to over cooked Otherwise it was flavorful. The atmosphere could use a little lifting. I’ll definitely be coming back to try the biscuits and gravy.

Pretty good food! Friendly staff. I had the chicken strips and fries basket. Yes, basic but very good regardless. Fries were not mushy. My friends who had the pita wrap loved it.

Food over cooked and had little to no seasoning. Funnel fries were good but one order was left in fryer too long. The chicken tenders were expensive to only taste like Tyson chicken from the freezer section. Fries were unseasoned. Table of 6+ and the waiter (had pink hair I believe) did not check to see if we needed our drinks refilled, if the food tasted okay, etc. Things that waiters are suppose to do. We had to ask for the bill because it seem like she forgot about the table when she was staring at us from across the room. When we got our receipts she threw our cards and cash back on the table when she could’ve just handed it to us. We had to figure out who card/cash was who. She could’ve gotten a nice tip from the large table but left with nothing. Needs to work on her customer service. We had to keep asking for items and she would make us wait awhile. She wouldn’t let us finish ordering or asking for what we wanted before cutting us off or walking away. Best believe we will not be back.

This place is really cool and they were lighting fast. If you are in midtown for lunch and dinner stop in. Food was great, drinks were great and so was the service. We are ready to come back for dinner.

I took my daughter here for a lunch date. We probably should've left as soon as we walked in because the vibe felt off (in my opinion). I ordered chili fries and an amaretto sour. My daughter wanted chicken and waffles. The waitress informed me that they only had shredded cheese because they were out of their regular chili fry cheese. Ok, fine... please add extra cheese on top then. My drink tasted like pop, and there was hardly any cheese on the fries. I sent the fries back and should've sent the drink back, too, lol!! Honest John's wasn't so honest with the chicken and waffles description on the menu either! They sent 4 WING DINGS on top of a big waffle to the table annnnnd charged 3.00 extra for the strawberry in her "strawberry lemonade." Sadly, I paid close to 30.00 for 1 cocktail, chick-n-waffles & strawberry lemonade. 😮‍💨 It's official... I never have to eat here again! The quality of their food, drinks, and service has gone downhill.

Wow! Lightning fast service, fun quirky decor and ambiance, and the food was delicious! Plenty of clearly labeled vegan options, with way more variety than I expected from a breakfast place. This place rocks!

Came here randomly with the recommendation of a strange. Best decision ever. Amazing dive bar with a super hippie vibe. Our server was Al, Who told us this place is the place to be after dark. Briefed us on the menu. And even told us the backstory about the extravagant story of honest John. The bloody Mary’s are pretty awesome.

Stopped by for brunch yesterday as we heard they had some solid vegan options. The atmosphere is fun, with lots of neon signs, and Catfish was playing on the tv. I ordered the vegan scramble, and my husband had the vegan breakfast sandwhich and grits, everything was delicious and very filling. Our waitress was really nice and attentive too. Definitely recommend stopping by if you're looking for a plant based brunch spot!

Honest John’s is honestly a good spot to have a friendly dining experience. I sat at the bar and was delighted by the friendly service that the mixologist Steph/Stef provided. I went in to try the chicken and waffles…I’m going back again. The waffle was cooked perfectly, presented with a dusting of powdered sugar. I tried the waffle by itself and decided to only drizzle syrup on because the waffle was so moist. You can order chicken tenders or wing dings (not whole wings). I chose the wing dings and was happy with the first bite, then the second…it’s the seasoning that did it. Adding the hot honey which was served on the side was a plus to the chicken (but wasn’t needed). I ventured out and drizzled the hot honey on my waffle as well. Delicious! Honest John’s serves three adult slush cocktails that rank above your average frozen slush; the Fromo (frozen Mimosa), Frozen Miami Vice and Frozen Pimm’s Cup. I tried the FMA and the FPC; both were tasty, I ordered the Pimm’s. All of the staff that I encountered was very personable. Sports to watch and was playing, but not so loud that I couldn’t hold a conversation at my normal speaking level. The decor is appealing and simple, not cluttered. There’s plenty of parking space, in front and in the rear of the building. I’m sure I’ll return for the chicken and waffles again, as well as to try other menu items.

Food was delicious! Had the chicken wings and fries. The bartender was very kind and attentive! Love this spot! Will be coming back. And the prices of drinks were affordable. The layout and decor was fun as well. I like the vibe.

I was pleasantly surprised by this place. They had ample seating inside and out. Parking was easy. The food was good and the Spanish coffee was fantastic.

I feel like I've come here for so long that I've grown up here. It feels like the last middle class bar in the corridor, still hosting a wide variety of wonderful people. The best beer, service, and food. Now that I'm all grown up the vegan options are fantastic to me. I walk here every afternoon for a 2 p.m. vegan breakfast. It warms my heart.

I loved the food, I liked the place, it’s like a bar and restaurant at the same time, the bathrooms have a some crazy style 😅. But everything it’s really good.

Honest John’s is a favorite of mine. I often go early mornings during the week. The breakfast is great with decent portion sizes. The food is very reasonably priced. They also have probably the most diverse staff I’ve seen. The atmosphere at night is great as well. More sandwich and bar food type options. The drinks are good and vibe is usually pretty chill.

Visited for dinner as part of a large group. We sat outside under the tent which was pleasant despite the heat. Most people in my group got sandwiches and everyone was pleased. I tried the turkey Reuben and curly fries. Sandwich was excellent! Turkey was flavorful and not dry, amount of sauerkraut felt right. Portions sizes were fitting, not enormous like some places. Fries were seasoned well. Prices are fair but fries do cost extra. Wait time felt a little long but it's completely understandable. Would definitely recommend for a great sandwich!

Great Food. However, the lady on the Wednesday night shift who took my order over the phone & cashed me out….. is stuck up lol she really needs to work on Customer service (she acted like she didn’t even want to cash me out & was nonchalant over the phone) but the food was definitely great!
