LOVED it!! The atmosphere is awesome and the service was incredible! We were able to joke around with the bartender and enjoy the company of those around us. The grilled cheese was insanely delicious!! We wanted to just keep them coming! Everything is so fairly priced too! Hope to come back soon!

A favorite spot for locals. Great drinks, live music, fun atmosphere. It gets crowded so prepare to squeeze in tight and have fun! If you are looking for true Detroit character (and characters) this is the place to go!

This place was described to me by a few people, and based on the description, I had to go. Even though it does have "Speakeasy" in the name, it still feels somewhat secluded and hip. Probably the best part is meeting all the people who have been there for decades, like the older woman with white hair who will greet you at the door. There is live music, not sure if it's always jazz, but is does exist (unlike another poster's opinion). The music is not award-worthy, but that's part of the charm. You might want to skip on the food and just get cocktails.

We had more fun than we ever expected. I love the intimacy it provides. Everyone from the other patrons, the waitstaff and the band, were so friendly and welcoming. This was our first time there, and you can bet on us coming back.

Great music, drinks so stout you feel that you're getting your money's worth, which somehow feels noticeable with how over priced cocktails have become in Detroit. If your looking for a casual meet up where you'll spend more time telling over music at each other, this is the spot... Have fun!!

Honestly don’t waste your money here when you can get drinks cheaper, better service, and better grilled cheese somewhere else. There is a two drink minimum but wasn't aware it was per person. I also got the one food item they serve which is grilled cheese; it was burn and didn’t taste that great. 1 sandwich and 1 corona cost $20. They also don’t have drink prices anywhere in the place.

This bar has a very relaxed atmosphere. There was a live band area which was nice. I recommend giving it a try.

Unique and comfortable spot! Stumbled upon this place by chance while visiting Detroit. It’s a gem! Very friendly staff, good drinks, heavenly grilled cheese that came with ranch, marinara, slaw, chips and a pickle! The atmosphere was lovely and made for one of the most special fun memories of my life! Absolutely will be returning anytime I’m in the city.

A Detroit landmark. Very polite and fun staff. Historic decor. The owner is often there sharing stories of the past and present. I like this place.

This place is wild..! The vibe is very old school and authentic. The drinks were a bit expensive, but very boozy. They had live music when we were there on a Saturday night and it wasn’t too loud. I really liked this place. The only food they had was the White Boy Rick Grilled Cheese (lol), but we didn’t eat. I would come back here!

One of the coolest spots in Downtown Detroit. Larry and all of the staff are awesome people. They genuinely care about everyone who hangs out there. Drinks are great and super affordable. Really cool vibe.

Unbelievable. Had no idea this existed in Michigan. Truly fantastic. The band is excellent, service is great, drinks are strong, and the place is popping. Shortlist it for an awesome night!

Great live music with an amazing in-house band "Carl & Co.". Cafe D'Mongos Speakeasy has an eclectic atmosphere with an equally eclectic mix of patrons. I always have a blast here.

One of my happy places. I never feel more at home in Detroit as when I’m at Cafe D’mongos. Unpretentious, friendly and vibrant. Perfectly Midwestern. A required stopover whenever we’re home in Michigan. Love, love, LOVE.

Cool music, laid back, but bathrooms need a lot of work.

If you like a hole in the wall with a focus on music, comfort, and friendliness, come here. You won't regret it.

Great atmosphere, drinks and live music on weekends. If you havent already, highly recommend checking out this long standing gem downtown.

Very busy (not sure why) had a 3 man band playing that was ok. Lots and lots and lots of stuff everywhere, which can be cool but was just packed in. Super hard to get service. The kind of place you walk sideways to get around. For being downtown the prices for drinks where on track. If you like a crowd and a bit of music it is fine. Not sure how they clean this place. All ages in there. 21 to 80 which was cool. Had that 70s vibe.

A very unique experience for the very unique. They have a small band that plays jam tunes, the drinks are very meh, but there is no denying the place has character

Small and eclectic, lively atmosphere. Drinks were decent, nothing spectacular. Grilled cheese was on point.

This is a love at first sight kind of place ... you will know within moments of stepping inside. The proprietor is a Detroit institution. The Detroit Brown is a must for whiskey drinkers. Food is simple ... and not really why you are here. It's a scene. My favorite bar in the city.

Atmosphere was great, but drinks were not. My margarita was tough to take down. They charged my husband $6 for a Diet Coke!

The sandwich was good(Whitboy Rick) really the only thing on menu. The band that played sound was ok , but none if then could sing. When the drummer is the best singer, you are usually I'm trouble.

Very dirty. Drinks served in plastic disposable cups. We went there because we like to explore speakeasies. This was not a good experience

One food choice. Other than that, cool and quirky place for a drink. I think we went a little too early, I think after 9pm, it would be very cool

Do you like dealing with pompous old people that touch the small of your back without asking? This is your bar to go to. Really enjoyed the guy that strolled up in a Model T, sold the whole “our crowd is from a time long before” vibe.

Good tunes, good drinks, good times, good people. Lovely spot for a drink! The Detroit Brown is mm-mmmm good!

Really interesting spot. Live music, cozy seating, funky decor. Definitely not your average bar. Specialty drink list is limited and only has 1 food option but has a full bar.

Very casual, laid back vibe. The staff are super friendly and the drinks are super strong! Don’t miss out on the grilled cheese - delicious. We will be back.
