This is a place most people don't aware about. When we talk about Nuwaraeliya trip we only aware of Ramboda tunnel. But I should say this is more beautiful and unique due to its natural location. Its situated between Kotagala and Thalawakale if you use Colombo Awissawella Ginigathhena Nuwaraeliya road. Old tunnel still exist next to this. If you are lucky you can see train travel above the tunnel. You can't enter into the tunnel its prohibited may be due to safety issue as both side there are bends at both ends and echo can confuse you as which way vehicle come. If you want to go to other side you can use the old tunnel. Which is safe though I went through new one with little bit fear in mind. Usually this place has mist and rain. Place is surrounded with beautiful tea estates. If you visit there don't forget to take some photographs as it will be different next time.

Located in the Central province of Sri Lanka on the Awissawella-Hatton-Nuwaraeliya (A7) highway as it passes the Kotagala town in Hatton. Commissioned in 2015 and inaugurated in 2018 this is the first manmade road tunnel in Sri Lanka. Picture worthy location but pedestrians are prohibited inside the tunnel in view of road safety.

A good place to stop and observe the old tunnel which is located alongside the new one and beneath the railway track.

This new tunnel was constructed with the widening of A7 road that runs from Hatton to Nuwara Eliya. You can see the old tunnel by the side of the new tunnel. You can stop the vehicle and have a look if you want. The upcountry railway track runs on top of this tunnel.
