A resort in Clarens on the other side of the drubkensburg mountain. Took the family here for a Pre winter getaway. Not sure where to start so I'll break this down in sections. 1. Environment: this is a long drive from any near cities, the roads to this place are ok, some pot holes in Mpumalanga as usual but not too bad. The lodge itself is hemmed in by mountain ranges, it is picturesque, if sometimes uninspiring. The lodge is large with all the amenities centralised. It's a good place for kids to run around (supervised), large play area, warm pool, games room, a dam, put-put golf, and big restaurant. Once here I'd say settled in for there is little around it to go see. 2. Accomodation: our chalet is good but not kitted out well. This place is essentially self catering however, not everything needed to self catering is available. There is no microwave in the chalet for example, no stove. So for food you have to relay on the restaurant, which I'll cover below. For some essentials there is a kiost where you can buy firewood to warm the chalet and some basic food stuffs. One thing is it's quiet, there is no external noise from cars, just the sound of birds chirping. 3. Food: this is entirely based on my experience at the restaurant since it's the only source of proper food on site. The food has been hit and miss. The menu is generally diverse, a typical South African type of offering. Got breakfast, sandwiches, braai meat, burgers, casseroles, etc. The quality is ok, I'll not be singing it's praise. All I am say is don't be too picky and fastidious and you'll have an ok time. 4. Experience: the staff are friendly, polite if a times slow (restaurant). The place is nice to just relax and take it easy. The kids have enjoyed it, they have a lot of space to run around in. Overall, it's been a good stay but I don't think I'll be back. It's a 4 hour drive from JHB for a small pay off.

Beautiful location, immaculate garden entrance, warm and inviting interior with a calming aroma. Friendly happy staff. Perfect for couples treatments. We opted for a medium full body, which was intense and invigorating. We'd definitely recommend this busy Spa in the mountains. One must book ahead.

My wife and I decided to spend our 30 wedding anniversary at the Kiara Lodge. The rooms were fantastic and the staff couldn't do enough for you. We actually planned the stay at the Lodge due to it's proximity to the Golden Gate. Although the Golden Gate was a bit of a disappointment, the Lodge made up for it. Was a Bed & Breakfast scenario and neither of theses aspects were a let down as the rooms were cozy and well kept and the Breakfast was of a Hugh standard. There is a 'Put-Put' course as well as various other entertaining feature like a massive baloon-type trampoline which really keeps the kids entertained. The rooms have air conditioning as well as a fireplace which was very convenient for the wife and I especially during the chilly evenings. Overall, I highly recommend the Kiara Lodge.

I make use of Holiday Club points when going to Kiara. I absolutely live going there. I have seen so much upgrading the past 15 years, that makes every visit exciting. I love the backdrop of surrounding mountains and the calmness you feel the moment you settled in.

Most amazing experience. Kid friendly safe environment. Heated under cover pools and play areas for kids. Mountain hikes available. A short drive into Golden gate park. Friendly service.Dam for fishing, waterfall hike, bushmen cave art. Great area for bird lovers An altogether amazing experience.

Stayed in a chalet which was reasonably priced, spotlessly clean and had great views of the valley and mountains. The lodge is very well run and has nice facilities for kids as well as many outdoor activities for adults. I am super impressed by this place.

Great place for the kids. Nice hiking trails as well as biking trails that you can explore. Lodging is great with friendly staff. The restaurant has some tasty dishes. Lining is clean and not worn out. Make sure you take some warm clothes even if it is summer. 4 seasons in one day

I much prefer Caley Lodge to Kiara. our flat was much smaller and it was on the top floor with three flights of stairs. Not good for retired persons with knee problems. We ended up staying in as the stairs were hell

Everything about this resort is great. The accommodation, the facilities and the very friendly staff. The unit in which we stayed was very modern, clean and comfortable. It had 2 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, a good sized living area with a built in fireplace/stove and a lovely stoep with a built-in braai. The two couches in the living area can also be converted to beds for small kiddies. Unfortunately the pools were being revamped at the time of our visit, but we will just have to return to make use of the facility. There is a restaurant on the premises, we did however not order anything from it, but according to management the food is delicious and bookings essential as it is a very popular restaurant. Thank you, we had a lovely relaxing weekend at Kiara.

The lodge was neat and well maintained. Ideal for family spending time.The best part of the hoilday is to enjoy nature .Activities (hiking ,spa,indoor pool,few games ). Restaurants are limited options.

One of the nicest resorts in the Drakensberg. Definitely the most beautiful setting and awesome scenery. Facilities and amenities are top class. Really great family holiday experience. Definitely worth a 2nd visit. The quaint town of Clarens nearby was a real wonder. Great atmosphere and warm welcomes all round. Thank you Kiara Lodge for a wonderful stay.

I had a full body massage and a facial. Both were awesome! The facial was to die for. One of the best I've ever had. The staff were very professional and made me feel at home. I highly recommend them. 👌👍🏼 BTW the unit we were in was just as awesome 👌. It was clean, comfortable and spacious. I liked that the interior was mainly light neutral colors. Staff were very hospitable and helpful. Everyone smiled and kept asking if we needed anything. The amenities were excellent as well. Pity we didn't bring the kids with they would've loved it. We will definitely be back. Keep up the good work Danie and team🙂

We stayed in one of the cabins. Clean, warm, comfortable with a view to die for. Just breathtaking. Service was friendly and very helpful. Will definately visit again.
