Hospital

😠 Do not have your baby here. There are many other hospitals to choose your maternal care with, and I don't believe Box Hill Hospital as the right choice. I left feeling very uncared for and my stay there was quite a lot. Lots of drips not checked nor working correctly, no care while I was recovering... People often mention hospital, staff, time, care, hours, emergency, doctors, pain, Hill, nurse,

Do not have your baby here. There are many other hospitals to choose your maternal care with, and I don't believe Box Hill Hospital as the right choice. I left feeling very uncared for and my stay there was quite a lot. Lots of drips not checked nor working correctly, no care while I was recovering from major surgery and the empathy was not present while adjusting to things. Giving birth is such a special time of your life, make sure you choose your hospital carefully because you want to trust that you are in the right hands. I'm lucky everything went okay, because if it didn't I don't believe Box Hill Hospital had the right level of care to see to major concerns appropriately enough.

My daughter attended Box Hill emergency section with a referral letter from her GP asking for assessment for suspected appendicitis waited some 3-4 hours, well aware of the triage system and that patients aren't seen in order of arrival checked in after a 4 hour mate Triage Nurse what you still here. I thought you had left. you don't look that unwell we then waited a bit longer, another hour and approached a different triage nurse she advised that my daughter wasn't on the waiting list she was reinstated on the list and we took our seats to wait again after another 2 hours and just over 7 hours of waiting and no public transport home we decided to call it quits we asked for the referral letter back however after a 10 minute wait the advised she couldn't find it no apology or suggestion of follow up basically tough luck it's not around Absolutely abysmal customer service The patients are Not enemies

I used to work there and that isn't the half of it. My patient privacy was twice violated profoundly and nothing was done. I'm surprised the people who did it were not given a trophy. The care was shoddy and every time I needed pain meds the staff would act as if I was the biggest drug addict in the world. I wasn't given proper nourishment. I was made to live off sandwiches for 7 days. I have transferred to the Monash where the care is much better. I will also die under their care as my cancer wasn't treated properly by Eastern Health and other health issues I had were ignored.

Went to the Emergency Department due to high blood pressure. I was very patient as I know how busy they were. I had my ECG done and asked the nurse how long will it take and stated it'll be a while as they are extremely busy and they have less doctors on the floor. Sat on the chair and waited, I started to feel unwell probably because It was getting late and needed to rest and I couldn't sat still on the chair. I approached the Triage nurse who assisted me about my condition, if I am safe to go home and just have my ECG read by my GP, as I know I won't get assisted anytime soon. And I asked in a very nice and calm manner. To my surprise, the nurse responded "We don't keep patients who doesn't want to be here." I think my blood pressure went even higher upon hearing her response and I felt embarrassed as there are a lot of people in the ED that time. That's not how you treat a patient just because it's a public hospital. Or in any circumstances, it's never okay. Everyone deserves respect. Extremely disappointed. Called them the next day and was asking about my ECG if they could email it to my GP. The lady who answered the call was very very very rude. Why work there if you hate your job? People don't deserve to be treated badly. Your job is to assist people over the phone and answer concerns within your scope. I wasn't rude at all and got that treatment. Very unprofessional staff and rude. Not recommending this hospital at all.

I would not recommend selecting Box Hill Maternity as your hospital... especially for first time mums. I had a horrific experience where I am still paying the price. I seeked counselling a month after the delivery of my son due to my experience here. I have lodged an official complaint to the hospital, also sent my feedback to breastfeeding association regarding Box hill hospital... (breastfeeding complaint is ever so small compared to the treatment of myself and the treatment of my newborn) I have to give credit where credit is due... if it wasn't for 2 nurses that I met and had on rotation that also went out of their way if they were not 'assigned' to me came to check in with me I honestly would not of been able to of coped each day the way I did - with the others that caused so much trauma. DO NOT RECOMMEND BOX HILL MATERNITY mostly as mentioned prior to first time mums and especially first time mums on medication that are deemed 'high risk' during pregnancy and thereafter. My only advice is.... TRUST YOUR GUT... only YOU know your child. It is sad that as a first time mum most trust the doctors as all you want is the best for your newborn... BUT turns out these doctors were completely wrong and I had to fight and fight to save my son in getting treatment for something he didn't have... this is a tick and flick hospital... not a specialist hospital by any means and not an empathetic one. This place has scarred me. Never will I birth here again. By the way BOX HILL HOSPITAL my son is thriving! 8mo is as healthy as one can ever be never been sick and has hit all milestones and exceeding far beyond his time ... thank God you people did not touch him.. it's disgusting. One basket is not the same as two. Don't judge mothers all in the same category as every situation and mother is different. NEVER AGAIN.

My overall experience has varied from extremely disappointing to absolutely excellent, depending on what I've been there for. Box Hill Hospital is like a box of chocolates. You never know what you are going to get.

Worst hospital, very rude staff. Went into emergency as my wife was suffering from untolerable stomach pain. Went around 1am Made us wait 7 hours and still no sign of doctor while my wife was going through so much pain. Finally around 8am, left as our regular GP gave us emergency appointment. On top of it charged us $440 because we have private health insurance and not medicare. So we lost $440 and 7 hours in waiting room. Save yourself from this hospital please.

Very rude security staff at front door! They ask you rudely to change your mask and make you to sanitise your hand! As per guidelines we just need to have mask and be vaccinated, no one can ask you to change your mask ,unfortunately they ask to do it tell very rudely! I advise everyone to have their phone camera ready when entering this hospital to record their rude behaviour and share!

Mum had a lump in her breast for many years without problems but soon after having surgery to remove the cancer, the cancer spread everywhere, causing her back, rib pain, and nausea, etc… Box Hill Hospital suggested to go on a hormone treatment, so they gave her Letrozole. When Letrozole wasn’t working they told her to take a hormone injection called Fulvestrant. When she had her third injection, her condition fell apart. Her red blood cell was getting low, difficulty breathing, pain all over, trouble swallowing, Slurred speech, severe weakness, swelling, dark urine, yellow eyes, and skin. With all these symptoms you’d think the oncologists would do something to fix the problems but NO… all they do is tell her to take more morphine and offer no solutions. Her blood cell was dropping rapidly so why didn’t they give her a blood transfusion or something to help her? She became so weak because of the lack of oxygen in her body. One day she fell onto the floor breaking her shoulder trying to get to the commode. Before an appointment with the oncologist, we always do a blood test to see how mum is doing. If they read the reports properly they would see that her, liver, kidney and other organs were getting damaged from the lack of oxygen but nobody took notice or did anything about it. They look at mum and think she can’t be saved so don’t bother. Mum’s condition was deteriorating rapidly, so we took her to the Box Hill Hospital. When we got to the emergency she was active and talking but the hospital just pumped her with heaps of morphine etc… then she stopped moving and talking, lying there sleeping. Why don’t they listen to my mum instead of shutting her up with medication? My mum was screaming for water and they just put her to sleep. One day later she passed away. The doctors just follow procedures and don’t think outside the square to tailor treatment for individuals. Once you are categorized as palliative, they give up on you. The doctors at the emergency unit were eager to help mum at first but once the oncologist labeled her as Palliative, they immediately took away her fluid bag, oxygen tube, vital monitors, etc…causing her more discomfort. I secretly put her oxygen tube back in and she became alive again but when the nurse took that away, she went back to sleep motionless. My mum was the best. Kindest, smartest mum in the world and I miss her very much. They will not get away with this. Watch this space!

DO NOT COME HERE OR SEND FAMILY HERE! Prior to Covid, the nurses were arrogant and ignored obvious signs of my family member in trouble. We tried pointing out that she was taking a turn for the worse and they kept ignoring us rudely saying ‘yeah yeah we know, we’re busy’ whilst she was having a stroke and needed attention. By the time they eventually could be bothered dealing with her the damage was done. My family member ended up passing away and it was due to the negligence of this hospital.

To say that this hospital is amazing would be an understatement. We got treated like private health clients and we had the best care you could imagine. Michelle, Sigrid, and Chantal looked after us so well. Every 20 minutes they were checking in on us. Teagan felt like a celebrity with how much they made sure she was ok. I have no words to describe how perfect our stay here has been. We welcomed our baby into this world with the most amazing people helping us out and we felt safe and in control the entire time. This place was absolutely perfect and we couldn’t fault a thing

I have been in this hospital through the emergency department and I noticed a relevant level of incompetence and inefficiency. After being triaged they sent me to the "fast track", where I had a long wait, once they called me in they literally ignored me for two hours, so when I decided to stand up and leave they said, "Here we are". So I stayed hoping for a good cure for my swollen ear, but only a few minutes later I regret it. All they could tell me was: go to the supermarket and get some anti-inflammatory. Totally disappointed.

If you have a cancer surgery, go to Peter Mac. I’m considering reporting the incident to APRA. We were warned by friends who had cancer and went to Box Hill to avoid it. And with good reason. We now know why! While the surgeon was good- we have no complaint there- they bungled the scheduled scans prior to surgery, and then post surgery discharged my husband with no pain relief. He was in agony for 5-6 days and we nearly called 000. And these days you can’t see a GP quickly and easily. It was utterly traumatic. He was writhing in pain. Crying and shaking. This knee jerk reaction to prescribed pain relief management is cruel at best and negligent at worst. Horrendous experience. Any further surgery or treatment we will be going to Peter Mac where they will treat you dignity and reap r and adequately treat your pain. It was horrific. To cut someone open then not give them pain relief. We are wondering if we should see a lawyer. Awful experience. I feel traumatised!!

This place urgently NEED'S to be shut down. READ THE REVIEWS BEFORE VISITING. Not the fake 5 star ones that the hospital has paid for. I have been going here for a long time unfortunately due to it being close and we're the ambulance always takes me. The doctors and nurses are extremely unqualified and are NOT SAFE around patients! Proceed with heavy caution! Because they don't know what they are doing or how to treat you. The care is AWFUL.

The efficiency of the emergency treatment is really low. At that time, my husband was in pain to the point of fainting, but he still waited in line for 7 hours to see the doctor. When he saw the doctor, he was told that the ultrasound could not be done because they got off work, and it would take the next day. fortunately, nurse Winnie is patient, kind, professional and enthusiastic. She is bilingual and helped us very well. She is a good nurse. I would like to praise her.

With covid numbers being so high, I along with many others have had to wait nearly three years to get my surgery. Yesterday I had to get a CT scan for my upcoming surgery, however the lady on the phone did not inform me of the change of address from Nelson rd to arnold st causing me to be ten minutes late to my appointment and my worker had to push my wheelchair a long way uphill. Would have appreciated being informed of the change as there was no mention of the new address on the form I was given so I assumed it was where it had always been.

Specialist clinic waiting time is dreadful, waited 2 and half hours then people who come in after me got to jump the queue until l was the last person standing. I am aware doctors nurses reception staff try their best but if roles where reversed would they have been so understanding. I'm also aware we are told in the letter this can happen however l was not prepared for being pushed back in the queue.

Was being treated by a nurse when they gave me the wrong medication in my drip. Waited 75 minutes to go to the toilet. Treated with no respect. Suffered a post op hemorrhage from my tonsillectomy and went in the ambulance to the ER here. Was told to wait and no one else was in the waiting room. Was then literally laughed at by a nurse and my feelings were not heard at all. I wasn’t taken seriously and didn’t receive treatment. The nurse had a “suck it up” attitude and I ended up going to Knox Private. I was seen within 3 minutes and rushed to surgery were I had my throat re cauterised as I was hemorrhaging rather badly and believe it wouldn’t have gotten to that if boxhill had of taken me seriously. I would sue but these companies have it all wrapped up super well. Disgusting. If u can’t afford private go to Angliss Public hospital they are amazing.

Box hill with emergency children is terrible.. My 10yr old son come in after a referral to box hill for a 7.30 surgical procedure.. he had split his middle toe in half with a axe caused a compound fracture middle toe also hasn’t been cleaned prone to blood infection… Box hill decided to do all their elective surgeries before my son after fasting since last night ready to go.. he was in pain all morning because box hill were not organised or their priory list is a bit (very). messed up. 1.30 we finally got seen out by 4… 2 and a half hours 45 mins surgery and out instead 9 hours In total… not fun with a 10 yr old hungry and in pain… if I didn’t raise major medical concerns to the doctors we would probably still there… absolutely disgusting

Our baby was recently born at BoxHill hospital and must say some of the staff are overworked and as a result are rude. They openly say they do not have enough staff. The doctors and specialists were awesome but the receptionist lot need to improve their attitude and behavior in a huge way. We also had a follow up appointment with the pediatrician yesterday and just because we were 5 minutes late for the appointment because there was no parking available and we had to keep circling around and wait for a vacant spot to park, the woman who was at the counter of level 3 maternity ward was really aggressive and rude to us and kept saying you need to call us and inform if you are running late. Please hire some pleasant staff who actually care about patients.

Had a number of procedures done. Kept telling them that something was wrong as the pain and discomfort was getting worse. Was discharged and told to watch for these symptoms and said this is what I having been complaining about for the last 12 hours. They sent me home. 12 hours later I was admitted by ambulance to another hospital ER and then transferred back to Box Hill. Then spent another 5 days in Hospital. In those 5 days the staff and doctors where unable to give me the correct medications and each morning and night I would have to tell them what I was taking. I don’t know how they could get this so wrong twice a day for 4 days and only seemed to get it right on the day I left.

I have been suffering with mental health for a few weeks now and on Thursday I was advised to go to Emerg dept at Box Hill Hospital , biggest mistake ever given to me ever. After arriving there at 3.30 pm I was advived to sit down and some one would see me . After 4 hours waiting I approached the desk . When I ask why I had not been seen ? I was SNAPPED at wait your turn . I watched as people arrived wait where seen and left . At the 5.5 hour mark I ask the lady at admin counter how long was I going to have to wait . At the point she said my details had not been entred maybe 3 to 4 hours cause my details had not been take even though a guy called Sam took them twice on a scape piece of paper. When I spoke to the lady at admin she said nothing has changed then took her face mask off and brushed here long red hair . What a joke of a lady . I sat down for 30 more minutes and approuched the triage nurse whos said I will see you now then As i was standing there some rude person pushed in and she started talking to him. At this point i just walked out .Dont ever go there ever a jock of a place

Parking is available. Once you arrive at the hospital you will be helped by staff if you happen to get lost. No problems easy to be in and out of BH hospital without any dramas.

The Emergency department are absolutely brilliant. The triage staff are caring, sensitive, thorough, efficient, and totally professional. Nursing staff are knowledgeable, astute and caring. They work in an intense environment and have to deal with every kind of urgent, confronting and challenging issue, and they do it brilliantly. So impressive!

Shocking. My mother is there now but as a private patient should never have been there- but was taken by ambulance and then admitted to the wards. They denied her her normal medications so that she couldn’t sleep ( 4 days). They don’t have her medical history, and they are just shooting from the hip in administration of her meds. She can’t occupy herself during the day because there is no Internet connection for her iPad. She couldn’t find the TV remote and doesn’t know how to use it. She was never shown how to use the buzzer. Here bed didn’t get made or sheets changed for 4 days, when she eventually complained. I couldn’t visit her, or transfer her elsewhere because she’s in isolation. Somehow, she’s managed to survive the ordeal and hopefully will be discharged in the next day or so. Their accounts department even phoned me to try to organise a claim on her private health insurance to cover her stay. Yet it’s a public hospital! Only the desperate would go there. Edit: After her arriving home, she alerted me days later to the fact that her emergency buzzer was missing from around her neck. So the hospital has obviously taken it for some reason and sent her home to be in a situation where she was at risk. Why would they take her emergency buzzer? When I phoned them, they know nothing about it. They don’t know where it is and they don’t care. They took all of her medications and the container with her vitamins, etc in it. They never gave any of these things back. They all had to be replaced. A new emergency buzzer has had to be sourced. This hospital has caused so much trouble for us, It is hard to believe that such ineptitude could occur at a major hospital.

Terrible experience bringing my baby to emergency department. Unreasonably long wait time (4 hours with small baby), compounded by the stress when the triage nurse Elena started raising her voice when we simply asked if she could do temperature check.

My first time in hospital in my life. For all the bad media about a system in crisis, i was reluctant to go to emergency with a simple infected toe. Turns out it was completely septic and i was facing losing my leg. The staff, nurses and doctors at box hill and william angliss at the beginning were nothing short of heroic. They were kind as i faced the scariest day if my life - alone because of covid - and professional at every turn. They fought hard to save my life, my leg and as much of my foot as they could. I ended up with a minor amputation instead of a major one. All the nurses and support staff were wonderful. The doctors were brilliant and made sure that i had the least impact possible. And this was all during code brown. Anyone who says our health system is broken should probably try it from the inside first. Our health staff really our our blue angels!

Boxhill hispital used to be 5 Stars, now it is horrible. Mom and I reached ED 6:45 pm on recommendation from GP. By the the time we were done with Triage Nurse it was 7:42 pm. They took her blood test around 10 pm. After that we waited and waited. Around 2:15 am a doctor came and took us to room inside. After initial inspection he said I have to ask surgical team to come and have a look. I am writing this from the same room at 5:46 am and no one has visited us yet. The same doctor comes after 1 hr and ask my mum 1 question and goes away. Lost it with doctor as he came last time and said you may to go wait outside again if some other emergency patient comes and needs this room. Another nurse came in and when I asked questions we were told that at the moment no surgical doctors are in the hospital. They are going to come sometime in the morning. Can't go home as we have waited 11 hrs now and want to achieve something out of it. Also, thinking if we come back we have to do this all over again.

Unfortunately clinics were closed at the time so not many options available 5 hour wait, understandable since it was an emergency ward and a busy night, this does not contribute to my bad experience. What does is the doctor we saw who misdiagnosed my partner. We found out later through 'google' and confirmation by an experienced clinic doctor that my partner had the complete opposite issue and that what the emergency doctor recommended was outright causing more issues. So potentially a blotclot and to go get a scan of the afflicted area which the emergency doctor with his 'consultants' did not recommend* and instead a slap on a back and told to relax more or less. So thanks box Hill Hospital, at least you're fulfilling your diversity quota and hiring people who fall on the low cognitive end who can barely count up to 10 or recount their alphabets.

Go see a private neurologist if you can. They misdiagnosed me multiple times and told me it was "mental health related" . My private neurologist was shocked and able to give me the proper diagnosis needed. These people are a joke honestly. Also the hospital care in general and staff seem to know nothing. And everything is blamed on mental health or make something up so they can void accountability and don't have to do the extra work. Recently reviews have gone up and this is due to fake reviews so don't be fooled!! Google "box hill hospital lawsuit" and see for yourself the pages upon pages of lawsuits this hospital has on itself. I agree with other comments, this place needs to be shut down. RUN DONT WALK!!

I was very impressed with my time here. Attended at 6:30am for surgery check-in, while that process was a little disorganised, the process or prepping and going into surgery was easy. Post surgery I was pleasantly surprised to have my own room for my overnight stay. I'm sure you can get good nurses and not so good ones, but all the nurses that checked in on me were so lovely and genuine. Never felt like an inconvenience. The nurses demeanor really is under-rated and is such a big part of what makes a positive experience for us patients. Facilities all modern and clean. Thanks Box Hill Hospital & keep up the good work. 5 stars!

Never relying on this hospital again. I spent over 6 hours in the waiting room and an additional 7 hours in a hospital bed waiting to be admitted to a psych-ward, throughout that time spent waiting I wasn’t check on by any doctor or psychologist for my well-being until 6am in the morning.. I understand night shifts are extraordinarily horrendous but holy cow out of all the hospitals I’ve never had to wait so long to be admitted. At the end I was sent home with a contact card.

Recently had our baby girl at Box Hill Maternity, and the midwifes and the staff at the maternity division were bloody amazing. This is our first baby and naturally we were very apprehensive, but everyone we interacted within the medical practice were absolute professionals! Interacted with 2 doctors, 3-4 midwife/registered nurses and a diabetic educator over the course of 3 months, all of them were nothing short of perfect. Kudos to Box Hill Maternity in general!! :) PS- The reception staff at Level - 3 is a different story. But cant really judge our medical practitioners by the reception staff they have around.

Was triaged not urgent obviously, waited two hours in the waiting room and only when I said I'd self discharge was I taken seriously. I was 20 weeks pregnant, ended up admitted and in ICU as high risk pregnancy!! 2nd time, turned up with a floppy baby (4 days old) and the triage nurse said we can wait. The patient who was in front of us said, can't you see this baby is floppy? My partner had to really insist for them to see our baby! She ended up staying for 5 days being treated for suspected meningitis! Terrible Triage, excellent care in the wards!!

Obviously a refresher on surgical cleanliness is required after my sister ended up with cold sores around her mouth after surgery here. Not to mention the wait times for someone with cancer far exceed acceptable times to see specialists & have testing done, & their unwillingness to treat her to the best of the ability is very poor. Pathetic, should have tried to go to the Mercy.

I am a regular visitor to BHH. The screen in process is shocking. Typically this hospital has different bar coding system to Victorian Government. You must scan in separately on another bar code app. There are two security officers on the door who usher you around like lost sheep. The questions you answer are repetitive and same every occasion. They say use your phone camera to read the bar code. This does not work for me . 3 Times. SO FRUSTRATING.

I am very grateful to be in Australia with excellent health care. With 4 children i was almost a regular at the Royal Children’s emergency department (ED). On Saturday, was my first experience at an ED for myself and i went reluctantly to follow my GP’s advice. The wait time was unbelievably short at only 1.5hours but the experience with the Physio I saw was disappointing. She had a beautiful manner and did lots of movement assessments but no scans and no diagnosis. I had been crying in pain the waiting room prior, after almost 6 hours of agonising pain, I was getting delirious. The phsyio left me in the patient room, waiting for another 45minutes for a nurse to administer panadol and neurofen, at which point i asked to leave. I had wasted almost 4 hours with no diagnosis and no pain relief. Thankfully, i was able to go back to my GP and get an outcome today but suffered in pain for 2 days.

I gave birth to my little boy in the month of Nov 2021 at boxhill hospital. I was lucky to have a lovely midwife, who is part of the MGP program Ms.TARA from the start of my pregnancy until my delivery she was best caring and loving. MGP program is really best and I would really recommend if you prefer natural birth. All the midwives and staff are really amazing!! Special Thanks to Tara as she is so friendly and motivational. I would 10/10 recommend Boxhill hospital.

4 weeks ago, I had a really bad fall and fractured a lumber vertebra. I was seen in ED, given a bed in the short stay unit for my comfort. I wish to say that my care was wonderful, the staff were caring, professional and nothing was too much trouble. I could not speak highly enough of all of them Thank you so much.

The maternity services at Box Hill Hospital are really, really good! All the midwives are doing a great job, and do what’s in patients’ best interest. A huge shout out to Midwife Tess for being so kind, caring and considerate throughout this very special & challenging time. You are amazing! Midwives Amy, Christina, Sally, they are all so kind and helpful. Thank you for everything.

My mother was transferred from her nursing home to Box Hill Hospital with end stage lung cancer. She was first admitted to Emergency and then to a ward. She spent her last days in Ward 4.1. Our family was at her bedside around the clock. My wife and I had personally stayed in her room for two memorable nights. The staff were wonderful. Every security staff, receptionists, housekeeping staff, nurses, physicians and chaplains we met were so thoughtful and caring. My mom received the best of care in her final days. I recently retired from my post in hospital and academia in Canada. I much appreciate the dedication and professionalism of the staff at Box Hill, especially after almost three years of COVID. My extended family is especially touched by the condolence card and hand written message from the Ward 4.1 team. My personal thanks to everyone at this wonderful hospital.

So so experience in ER paeds. Nice nurses in the PM, overnight they had bad attitudes (typical of night nurses though, I’ve been a nurse for 23 years and seen it all). Amazing nurses on the paed unit, very lovely and caring. Only thing I want to complain about is the lack of meals for parents who are staying with their children 24/7. I had not eaten since 3pm in ER, the next morning on the paed ward, my daughter was served breakfast but nothing was given to me despite me sleeping overnight next to her. I asked for some breakfast only to be told “they cut funding to the unit and meals for parents was one of them”. Are you serious? We stay with our kids 24/7, take the load off the nurses so they are not having to babysit our kids 24/7 and we are all nervous wrecks because our children are so unwell but we are not given any food and are expected to leave our kids and go downstairs to the ridiculously expensive cafe for every meal (which clearly is the hidden agenda here because they would be profiting off all of us). What an absolute joke that is and quite frankly, it’s disgraceful. Some toast and rice bubbles with a cup of tea would cost $1 all up per parent per day and you can’t afford that despite millions upon millions of government funding.

Attended Boxhill hospital on the 25/1/24 the Nurses and Doctors care was second to none, nothing was too much trouble and they were very genuine in the care. The food however was absolutely disgusting, l think this needs to be addressed as soon as possible! My tip if you know you’re going pack some snacks instead of going hungry. I had my first baby at box hill and I could probably right a book on my overall experience. Right from prenatal care to postnatal the staff, doctors and midwives are extremely professional and sensitive to patients needs. The hospital is also very clean and the service and professionalism of the staff is outstanding. I had a smooth pregnancy overall which went to about 40 weeks and while I was getting impatient the doctors and midwives assured me that bub inside is absolutely safe. And then just a day before my due date my water broke and we rushed to the hospital. After a couple of hours and some tests I was induced as I didn’t have any contractions. The midwives were very patient and accommodating to all my needs. At around 7pm bubs heart rate started increasing and that’s when they wheeled me in the operation theatre as fast as possible to perform an emergency c section. My heartfelt gratitude to the doctors and midwives especially Andrew who kept assuring me that everything will be alright. I was given general anaesthesia, bub was born at 7:29 but I only came to my senses an hour later and held my bundle of joy in my arms. After 2 days nurse Rosie was on one of her rounds and as part of a routine check walked into our room to check bubs heart rate and temperature. She noticed something unusual about bub and bub was taken into special care nursery to be kept under observation. I have been told that it was very hard to pick up what Rosie sensed and must she’d must be very good and experienced in her job. Bub then had to be transferred to Monash and all medical staff went beyond their duty to make sure bub gets medical attention as soon as possible. While I would like to keep other details confidential, personally I feel Rosie walked in as a god’s messenger on that fateful night to save my bub. Rosie if you are reading this, know that I think about you every single day and pray for your well being. A special mention to midwife Danny(whom I also thank and pray for everyday)who was so compassionate and was by my side when husband had to leave me and go along with bub as I wasn’t still discharged. The world will be much better place if we have more nurses like you.

Very nice personnel trying to be as helpful as possible.... But it cannot compensate for such a long wait. I spent 2 hours at night.... To be sent home with pain killers and request to come back at 8am the following morning when ultrasound would become available. The coming day, I am back at 8am, ultrasound done at 9.30am.... and I called it "quit" at 3pm (so 2 hrs + 7hrs = 9hrs)... WITHOUT having seen a doctor. . Definitely under staffed.

First of all would like to give a massive thank you to Naomi, Holly and Cait for looking after me over the couple of days I was in hospital here. I had a mixed experience while I was here tho, I came in on the 25th early morning in alot of pain and crying for help (excruciating back and stomach pain) I was in the emergency waiting for a couple of hours throwing up bile constantly, I couldn't keep anything down and it took my aunty to do some pushing for me to be properly seen as I was in alot of pain. I was moved between the 2 rooms in emergency then to a ward where I had blood tests done and the normal obs and everything. Fast forward I was now moved to short stay and on a drip and nausea medicine to try and control my vomiting, I couldn't really keep anything down at all and was starting to not want to eat anything or drink anything as was afraid of throwing up again. The nurses kept trying to get me to drink and eat and then I was being told if I did I would be able to go home, I knew I wouldn't be as I was still in alot of pain and throwing up. Fast forward later that night im then moved again to another ward and had to have a ct scan, then woken to be told I would be having surgery then woken again for an ultrasound and bloodtests they then said that I didn't need surgery and wanted to do more tests. More tests occurrd including struggling to find veins in my arm which left it very sore and some slight brusing (cant get blood from left arm) and still on drip aswell, it was a little frustrating to have them not find out what was wrong with me soon enough and to have to keep undergoing alot of tests. Stayed in hospital for 3 days but had what I had change multiple times. Gastro, then gallbladder then gastro then they weren't sure then a uti then a uti and kidney infection. I wish it didn't take so long to find out what was wrong as I was still in pain and hadn't eaten. End result ended up being sent home with antibiotics, pain relief and nausea medicine. Still very thankful to all of the staff who were able to help but my greatest thanks goes to Naomi, Holly and cait these ladies were lovely, very empathic and very quick to be able to help you and offered to have a chat or take you to the tv area I appreciate everything they did for me in my time being there !♡

Better not to have dump learners in the radiology reception, Monica Tang is definitely a joke to be able to sit in the reception as she doesn’t even know how to book me the 36 weeks pregnancy scan. I ask her to send referrals to centralized booking system while I am calling the 1300 booking number, then she sent the referral letter to wherever no body knows. She seems so confusing what she is doing. Then after I called up and made my booking successful myself, I got a phone call from somewhere saying that if I wanted to make a booking??? She is there to making more trouble for patients. REMOVE HER!!

Was told off for calling their 1300 number even though it's their number listed on their contact us page. Some staff were okay and others were rude and patronising. Often speaking over the top of or in a patronising way.Conflicting information provided by staff and no records were made on what advice was being given to family's members or which staff was giving the advice. They wanted to make my mum go home with crutches even though she couldn't use them and even though we had hired a wheelchair that she had came to the hospital with.

This review is about the medical diagnosis / decision pathway and not the overall experience or staff. On the 8th day after taking Astrazeneca, I went to the ED at Box Hill Hospital due to a persistent headache and a developing numbness in my left arm. While in the waiting room, I developed a numbness in my left leg as well, and was seen soon after. I later learned that since I was showing stroke signs, I had been put on stroke watch. The neurologists who saw me did a CT scan soon. I was told they couldn't find anything definitive, but referred it to the radiologists for their opinion. Overnight, I was clueless as to what was going on. As I hadn't had anything to eat since lunch, I was quite hungry and when I tried to get some food delivered from home I learned that I was being kept fasting in case more tests needed to be done. Late that night, I was transferred to the neurology ward, had a blood test taken at dawn, and was given statins soon after with not much explanation. It was only around noon that the neurologist finally explained to me that I was kept on stroke watch due to the initial symptoms but they do not have a diagnosis yet. I was to stay a couple of days until they can schedule me for an MRI. Somehow, amidst all this, everyone seem to have forgotten that my symptoms were inextricably bound to the vaccination event. Since there was no evidence of thrombosis, Vaccine Induced immune Thrombotic Thrombocytopenia (VITT) was ruled out, and since my symptoms were not typical post AZ vaccination symptoms, the link to the vaccination event was forgotten. This exemplifies how our "modern" medical decision making does not take into account the background in a probability based decision model. Eventually, I had the MRI done, and as they could not find any anomaly, I was sent home despite still having symptoms. I had the feeling some of the staff thought I was bluffing - I was asked if I work, as if it was medically relevant - and was hanging around for the free hospital food perhaps? Seriously!? One week on, I still have a bad headache and the numbness on my left side has crept on to my face. I am still to receive my discharge report, ie. I do not have a formal written report of the investigations, and even if my situation deteriorates, I am reluctant to go back to the ED and line up for hours again. And even if I succumb to my symptoms at home, it won't be counted as vaccine induced because I don't tick the known boxes! I took a calculated risk with AZ and was not hesitant, but now I wonder about the validity of the TGA published fatality stats. All in all, I expected a little bit more from our taxpayer funded health system, particularly when you end up at its mercy after trying to do the "right thing". - J de Silva PhD.

Kudos to the amazing team of nurses on the COVID frontline, testing all the people with coughs and sneezes day in day out. Have been here for multiple tests. Privacy could be handled better, as everyone in the room gets to hear of your address and details including occupation, but overall it’s hard to fault these amazing people.

This review is for the Respiratory Clinic staff. The front line medical staff are great and continue to do amazing work taking care of us during these trying times, especially with this recent surge in cases. I have tremendous respect and understanding of their efforts, being from a healthcare background myself. However the same cannot be said for the other staff (I believe they acted as security staff?). They were pretty much combative and rude as soon as I walked in to the clinic around 3.30pm to do my Government-directed testing within 24 hours, insisting the clinic was "at capacity, closing soon, come back tomorrow, etc etc" (it was a smaller line than usual at this time, I had been there before in much busier times where the line stretched to the streets, and the clinic's closing time is 5pm). I had to insist quite a few times that I was following strict protocol and had to do my testing today itself, and this clinic was my only option today as most pathology centers were either not offering the test or have been closed to handle the backlog of tests - I had been driving around to almost 6 different centers prior to finally chancing it here. The security staff then resorted to raising his voice at me and intimidating me to leave the queue, accusing me with unfounded reasons. I had to remind him again that I had strict orders to follow and that I had very valid reasons to be there. Finally, he left to ask the medical staff and when he came out, I was told I was able to test today. I was really disappointed to encounter this behavior after a long day myself. I sincerely hope these staff are reprimanded and offered further training on communication skills and customer service. These are tough times for everyone, and it's showing no signs of stopping anytime soon. We can't lose basic respect and dignity when interacting with fellow human beings during a crisis as that is the only thing we can cling to.

As I was entering boxhill hospital today, after showing the group of people my QR code, the short Indian woman told me to take my mask off. I was shocked to hear that so didnt move, then she repeated again with a rude tone, which I had no idea why I should take my freakin mask off in such a crowded hospital. I did what shes said then she told me to sanitise my hands and grab a new mask from the box. Can someone explain the whole purpose behind this stupid rule? After taking mask off and sanitising hand I was fully exposed to the air for more than 10 seconds who is going to be responsible if I catch covid during this window of time? You need to train your staff to speak to people nicely and stop this stupid rule if that Indian woman told me the rule correctly.

I have heard and read many mixed reviews on the box hill hospital and on a number of different occasions I have had nothing but a bad experience, so I stand with all of those that have had a terrible time here. Last night I presented to the emergency room at 6pm with bad chest pains. Upon entering it was absolutely packed with people and the wait time to be triaged was about 2-2 & 1/2 hours. The nurse that served me at triage was very nice and insisted that I needed to have an ecg done but said ‘as you can see we’re really busy, there is no guarantee on how long you’ll wait’. I of course sympathised and agreed because I needed answers and felt as though I couldn’t wait to see my personal GP today. I was there until 11pm and only administered panodol. After 11pm, I just walked out as I overheard a nurse tell another patient the wait time would be well and truely into the early hours of the morning, I came home and suffered through the pain and then went to my GP this morning who was appalled to hear of what had happened on my visit to the emergency room. She ordered the tests I needed done and answers are soon on the way. She was appalled that not only I but many other people didn’t receive any treatment or care. There was even people being told to have panodol and go home and come back in the morning which makes no sense, if you are presenting to the emergency room you are obviously there because it’s an EMERGENCY, if it wasn’t, you’d just book into your local GP. Just absolutely appalling. I understand there is staffing issues but the least they could do is refer people to another hospital to get the most appropriate treatment.

Went to hospital with my husband and I Wednesday/ Thursday morning at 3am on the 15th this month. Triage nurse was so empathetic and nice even though she told us we would wait for 6 hours. She understood how much pain we were in and offered us some endone, which helped so much. This was after she was abused by another patient loudly and in-front of everyone. Once we were called in by the doctor , English lady. She was the kindest most empathetic doctor I have seen in a long time. In her busy night duty schedule she stopped and got a coffee for an elderly gentleman who was requesting one. She then reviewed my husband and I together, promptly knowing that we were both stricken with a viral infection she gave us something stronger for our severe headaches that was causing us to vomit and offered to give me a Careers cert for my mother baby sitting our kids at home. Not only was she good she was kind and empathetic. I wish I got both the triage nurse and doctors names. Night duty is hard enough so Thankyou!

I just wanted to say a huge, huge thank you to all the staff who looked after me this Easter weekend. From the staff at the front desk who triaged me, to the nurses and doctors in ED, all the way up to the wards, I’ve never felt more safe, comfortable and looked after. After getting bitten by a cat, they took everything so seriously and validated my concerns. They didn’t take any short cuts and were thorough in all aspects. I’m honestly very grateful and would love this to be passed on to the staff. Thank you!

My experience at Box Hill Hospital's emergency department was somewhat mixed. The lobby was crowded with patients, resulting in a lengthy wait to see a doctor. However, I must commend Dr. Ren for his exceptional professionalism and dedication. He treated every patient with kindness and fluently communicated in Mandarin. Despite working overtime due to my case, Dr. Ren meticulously devised and executed a timely medical plan for my chest pain. His unwavering commitment to patient care is truly commendable, and I am immensely grateful for his expertise and compassion.

On a Wednesday at 4.30 pm. He was on his own and has mild dementia. He decided to just leave. Triage system appears very poor.

The worst public, less caring, hope some of helpless staff won’t be in the same terrible situation like when get sick but no one does anything for them in the future. For left chest pain, radiating to middle and left shoulder, based on Airway Breathing Circulation Disability Exposure primary assessment, it could be either level 1 red or level 2 orange related to a significant organ -heart, but the triage let us go home and say it’s not emergency, we could go to other clinic, and emphasize that it’s free (it’s quite offensive, who cares about free or not when being sick? It’s just close to our residential place, general knowledge that going to your local closest medical center when suspected emergency, I doubt the staff knows!) Back to triage, very unprofessional, where is your critical thinking? Chest pain is under circulation stream, for sure it could be emergent. At least ECG, troponin for chest pain patient as clearance to avoid sudden death?! Less sympathy, we know you guys are busy, but who doesn’t? I guess the triage see that you are breathing, talking, and your signs on the observation machine are fine, you are not under emergency though. Assuming this emergency department only see people who lay down on the ground, so could ever pretending. And we don’t get your terrible services for free, we work hard to pay taxes every single year, who paid your salaries do you think?

Literally the worst hospital I have ever been to, absolute waste of my time, I've been in agony for days and they take hours to even get pain meds to me, I had to spend the night here and I've been telling every nurse and doctor that I have regular meds that I need to take and they won't give me them, I have no idea what's going on because they won't tell me anything. Thank you people you have been amazing will miss floor 8.1 amazing bunch 🙂🧡

Have heard of so many terrible experiences at Box Hill Hospital. A number of close friends have lost loved ones due to the incompetence that runs rife in this hospital. My own experience here included being locked in a tiny waiting room and forgotten about, after I had waited in the ER for hours. Box Hill is a stain on the public medical system.

My mother- in law has been admitted to the hospital from Bethel nursing home after she got covid 19 from one of the staff. She is almost 100 years old, they transferred her to a ward at the same day, every one of the nurses and doctors looking after her, they are amazing staff, even we know they are so busy and despite their complete care for my beloved, they were able to answer our calls every day and provide us with up to date information about her situation, even helping her to charge her mobile and open it for her one day when she wasn't able to answer us. Thanks to everyone there in her ward 9.1. We realy appreciate your time and help and care for my mother and all of the patients in that time of covid 19 pandimic. Thank you. Thank you.

My elderly Dad was hospitalised with Covid which restricted family from visiting making it extremely stressful. However All the Staff from Box Hill Hospital made Dad's stay, full recovery and our experience truly wonderful. Can't praise them enough. Thank you to all.

i've been admitted to ward 5.3 (paediatric) 4 times since 2019, but more specifically 3 times in the last month for eating disorder related problems. for a start, i was given food on my "dislike list" a list which excludes 3 foods you dont like and i was told to just eat it when i asked why. secondly, the nurses in 5.3 were absolutely atrocious (not all) but most. a specific name i remember is ann who invalidated me by saying "there are sick children here" as if i was not a sick child. another nurse with glasses threatened to call a code grey on me because i was crying in my room(code grey is to bring security up to your room and basically detain you). i wasnt being violent at all. for my admission, i was isolated, barely allowed to see family, no privacy and constantly being talked down on. some nurses i remember being fantastic are paris, grace and arlo. please please please dont send your child here if they try to admit them, it has given me so much trauma and i promise most of the time it will be the worst thing for your kid.

I work in disability and was taking a client to the hospital for a CT scan which we booked the day before. It would have been helpful if the booking office had informed us of the changes to the main entrance to the hospital as client has not been there for 7 months but years for me. Also trying to find disabled parking but then discovering on the pay machine the info in regards to this, I could have parked closer.

I was in for a gastroscope some months ago and I can’t speak highly enough of the staff in that ward. Despite how busy they were and how tired they would’ve been, they were incredibly attentive and caring. I felt so thankful and lucky to be looked after by them and told them so. I hope they know how valued and amazing they all are! Thank you again! ❤️

Thank you to the wonderful midwives at Box Hill for the amazing care you gave myself and our newborn. You have been nothing short of exceptional all the way from my pre-natal care, to my very, very fast delivery of my baby boy, to the amazing post natal care. Maddie, Ros, Jordan, Sarah, you are all amazing and thank you for making my birth experience such a wonderful one, we are blessed to have cross paths with you.

After having a traumatic c-section at a hospital in the city, I was really blessed to have a successful VBAC with my second baby here. Throughout the appointments, the doctors and midwives cared about my preference and respected my choices. Even though my labor sort of stopped when I first got in, they didn't send my home but instead, they got me to take a walk in the park! During labor, all the midwife team were so helpful. My doctor had VBAC experience herself, therefore she trusted her instinct and recommended me to break my water manually to help the process. At the final stage, midwife Gabrielle is truly amazing, so confident and gave me the courage, I wouldn't have done it without her. I remember one of the elder midwife walked pass the room and she came in gave me instruction to push the baby out as well. I was lucky to have my own room afterwards and had great recovery. Thank you!

Cardiology department at Box Hill Hospital has the most wonderful staff; kind, caring, and patient, all with a great sense of humour. This helps to make the time pass easily at each visit and without stress.

Very strange human behaviour. If your standing outside a diagnostic unit service desk...no one else around. And staff at the counter totally ignore you. Not even lifting up an eye. Just totally ignored us. We sat down and someone finally asked if they could help us. It's very odd....surely lift up your head and say...won't be a minute...or something. Nope....blanked. Thumbs down for pt service. Very rude

The staff, doctors, and nurses are great and look after patients very well, however the time of appointment to actually seeing any one is a long time. also because the clinics are with different doctors an specialists they cannot coincide appointments for the same day makes it difficult to attend if a two hour drive is involved

Have been in the emergency waiting room for 5 hours. The doctor who sent me here said I could have ulcers bleeding in my stomach, and I've seen patients arrive and go into emergency ward after 20 minutes.
