We had a fantastic stay at a lovely hotel in a beautiful town, with wonderful Staff throughout. However, we had just a couple of wee problems that could easily be fixed and then I would definitely have given 5 Stars. Firstly, the hot water on upper floor rooms is not instant, which makes it very difficult to have a shower when you get up early in the morning. On reporting this, we were advised you need to run the water for a 'few' minutes to allow it to feed up through the system to your room. This process actually took over half an hour to be warm enough to shower, but still was not hot. Not good if you want to shower before breakfast for an early day trip or for your departure. In rooms where this is an issue, believe me, electric showers are an absolute must and should be considered. The only other issue we had, was that a Veggie option for breakfast or dinner was only available by special request. This can be very embarrassing at meal times for a guest to have to ask a waitress for this option, who then has to go and ask a Senior waitress, who then has to take it to the Chef before it is agreed that this is possible. In the 21st Century, it should now be the norm, that at least one Vegetarian option should always be on the menu. I'm sorry I had cause to raise both these issues, as we did have a wonderful stay with you. But I feel if these couple of issues could be resolved, you would definitely get 5 Star reviews from all your guests. Many thanks and we will definitely be back to stay with you again.

Rooms were clean but looks like it hasn't been updated since the 1970's. The rooms were seriously lacking outlets, providing only one place for our chargers and such, which was not in a convenient location. bathroom fan was controlled by a switch in the ceiling. bed was ward to the point of feeling the springs. With all that being said, Staff was very friendly and helpful.

The hotel was very good. It was a wonderful location for sure. The morning buffet was marginal at best. The hotel feels somewhat old and dated. My room did not have ventilation and the windows had to be adjusted to try to obtain the right temperature. My room clean and the beds comfortable. The bathrooms were old-fashioned. Everything was adequate or above average but I think there are definite areas for improvement and update.

The Abbey Hotel was situated in town. Easy access to pubs, restaurants and shopping. No on-site parking but we were able to park close. The town was so beautiful and quaint. We enjoyed our visit. We did eat at the hotel restaurant and listen to some live music in the evening. Our room had a gorgeous view of the town square. Bring ear plugs if you have a view of the town. Buses pull up right out front early in the morning. Other than that it was in a perfect location with a wonderful staff.

Stopped in Donegal to have dinner in the Abbey Hotel. It is a place that for generations has been loved by many. The food was lovely. However, we had a long wait for the main courses. issues was the service was ok but found it lacking awareness. Guest standards are not being made, aware of the needs of paying guests. Watched while barmen chatting to each other and not seeing customers at bar counter waiting service. staff not watching tables all chatting to each other . Not carrying dirty glasses on trays. Not aware of hygiene levels. Only one staff member is running with food. Just found it all disappointing, Management not seeing this. More training for customer awareness and hygiene levels as the Abbey Hotel is loved by many. This is a letdown. It really did upset me this time.

The hotel was dark, dated and old fashioned in appearance. Some staff were lovely and others were abrupt. The room I had while it was clean, the bed was awful, it was like sleeping on bed springs, and the noise from ventilation fans all night was annoying. The hotel has a lovely location in the middle of the town, but as there is no parking it is a nuisance and local parking is limited. Having to drag a bag along narrow, uneven paths is a challenge, so for persons with disabilities or mobility issues this may be a challenge.

We had a lovely meal, early evening on a Thursday. Super staff, friendly and interested in our day/stay in Donegal. Will definitely be back, hopefully to stay but it’s super booked up so we visit for lovely food.

Right the bar food. Waiters were young and nice. But the food was just below average. We were sitting at a table and we could see a young man (waiter) filling pepper bottles for tables with his fingers that he then proceeded to scratch his scalp with. That really lost our appetites. Another thing is waiter wasn’t clear about specials on the menu. He mentioned specials and one of it was wagyu beef. So we ordered it thinking it was a wagyu beef steak but when it arrived it was just a burger. The place has a lot of potential but there’s plenty work to do. Don’t think we’d be returning.

Absolutely brilliant hotel Lovely staff and great food I have to acknowledge the lady cleaning the toilets they were beyond clean, and she had them gleaming to every corner. There was a dance weekend on and a lot of people at the event. I thanked her for her work saying how spotless they were but she replied im only doing my job. Definitely will be back its top of my list.

Nice rooms. Very clean and comfortable. Located in Donegal The Abbey Hotel is very close to great shopping, restaurants and bars. Breakfast buffet was very good with a large verified of choices. The staff in the restaurant and bar are friendly and customer service orientated. The lobby bar is fun and the band was great and kept the fun going until closing.

A lovely hotel set in the Donegal triangle and backing onto the river. We stayed as part of a group over three days and cannot fault anything about the stay, the staff, the accommodation and the catering were wonderful. Thank you for a most enjoyable holiday.

We stayed here for one night and it was enough. On arrival staff at front desk didn't seemed to pleased we were checking in with no welcoming interaction. No eye to eye contact and at one stage had to remind the receptionist I needed a key. No information of facilities were given, no check out time given either. Which left us to assume it was 12. We were WRONG. As when I had left to get my hair done my husband received a knock on the door to advise other wise about 11.20 am. Leaving him to pack up the remaining bags and 3 kids. We made our own way to the room to discover it was dated. With little sockets to charge phones / iron etc. (No iron or ironing board in room either, we had luckly brought our own iron) As we were attending a wedding we were all busy getting clothes pressed and washed. So defiantly not ideal. The bath drain had some issue allowing water down and delayed the bath process. Again not ideal with 3 kids in tow. I felt the service received for the price paid was not equal. Just as recent as 3 days before we stayed in a hotel in Dublin at a much better rate with breakfast. On my experience I would not be returning. I have worked in hospitality and was disappointed with everything.

Our stay was very nice. Friendly service but not the most helpful with questions about town. Definitely visit the tourist office just down the street for help. The Wi-Fi was awful, never really worked so we ended up having to turn phone data on (international travelers). The beds are also painfully uncomfortable, but the bedding was nice. And housekeeping was great! They cleaned and made up the beds every day! The walk in shower was very lovely and they have towel warmers (ours didn’t work sadly)! Breakfast was good but not many options for dairy free/vegetarian, even the scrambled eggs have milk. Fried eggs are safe tho and they did get me some almond milk for cereal. Definitely check out the bar at night for great live music. Lastly, this is a great central location to walk around town and they are right at the bus stop!

The food was great but our room was a little tired. The carpet was a bit wrinkly but everything was clean. There was no AC but the windows opened so we we’re fine overnight. We were surprised to see that smoking was allowed on the steps of the front entrance of the hotel so we had to walk in and out past the smokers.

the hotel is very average, the service is poor, the attitude towards guests is disgusting. If you don’t vacate the room by 11 o’clock, then the service will enter the room without knocking and say “leave.” there is no heating, no drinking water in the room. I do not recommend the Abbey hotel Donegal in Donegal.

Had to be moved from first room as it was above the very, very noisy band. Staff was very accommodating and gave us another room quickly. Unfortunately it wasn't exactly what we had booked. But was okay. At least we were able to sleep.

Was there for new-year hotel is beautiful staff lovely food good rooms clean and comfortable everything was going fab everyone in our tour group were very impressed with hotel untill early hours off new-year day we had new-year meal and party in the central then trying g to get back into our hotel was outrageous. Youngsters blocking entry, everyone fighting at front hotel entrance police and ambulance In attendance this hotel was way over safe capacity as there is a night club down stairs from premises and there were also a live band in the lounge area there were people just walking in off the street and yet residents who paid good money to stay here were told to pay 20 euro to get in to the lounge bar absolutely outrageous to treat paying residents in this way..also club music went on to after 3am then random youngster's running uo a d down the corridor banging on doors this let you down massively and I'd mot recommend staying there with a nightclub attached to hotel

Not great I am sorry to say. Our room was lovely but alot of the hotel was not good. The lift had not been cleaned for some time and smelled of alcohol. I could actually hear and feel my feet sticking on the floor of the lift because of the alcohol on it. The carpets smelled and were stained with alcohol. I know it is a town hotel but the view of the skips out the back along the river was just not pleasant. Sorry to be giving a not so good review but I have to be honest. The staff on the other hand were very very professional and helpful at all times. A credit to the hotel.

A fantastic hotel in the centre of Donegal town! A hearty Irish breakfast each morning and a beautiful room to unwind in each night! Great to be able to use the pool in the sister hotel next door too! Lovely staff and a warm atmosphere!

The staff were trying really hard. The bed was very hard and difficult to sleep on. The front end staff managed to find us a new room. The breakfast was consistent with cafeteria service. The dinner was disappointing with both the salmon and lamb shank being over cooked. The hotel is going through renovations, which are needed. You need to park in public parking down the road, which requires you to download an app and put minimum €10 on your account. Do not see the value at this location, but certainly has potential.

Excellent location. We nipped in for lunch and the food was lovely. Fish and chips were great my turkey and ham were good, the turkey was dry. I wondered if their Chef Konrad was one I worked with years ago in Bundoran? Their staff were exceptional especially young gentlemen at the bar wearing a mask.

We had booked a music festival package, which included two evening meals ,but when we arrived we were told these meals were no longer included. The hotel had not informed us of this change when they took our deposit. When I complained they said they had taken 30 euros of the bill but at their prices would certainly not had covered the price of two meals.Although the entertainment was brilliant they need to be very careful about false advertising

Minimum electric outlet in room is the reason for the 4 stars. The service was great except the one server that requested payment for our on-going bill even though we were not done with our evening and ordered another round. Not sure why he insisted on payment before we were ready to leave.

Stopped here for a drink as we had dinner in the restaurant. The food and the service in the restaurant were fantastic. Popped in to the bar and were completely ignored on 3 occasions by the bar staff even though sitting at the bar and hardly anyone in. Got up and left without being served Pity as the restaurant was fantastic just a real let down

The only problem we had was noisy generator outside our window room 226 moved to room 214 which still had a small generator outside the window but not as bad. The hotel is great for a three star very clean and the food is fantastic This is our second time in Donegal but probably won't make it a third as drink prices very excessive, you charged 13 Euro's for a pint of IPA and a shandy but not as bad as 19 Euros for 2 brandies and a coke across the road in the pub.

Hotel is clean and fairly modern decor. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Rooms are large, with comfortable beds, and are clean. Breakfast was very nice, also had dinner, the chicken sizzler was delicious. Only disappointment was the fish and chips, both were frozen foods in donegal I was expecting fresh fish.

Had a great stay in the hotel and had an absolute ball at Bingo Loco on Friday. Reception staff were so lovely and accommodating with any requests we had. Shout out to Alanna who dealt with our checkins. Bar and restaurant staff were also so lovely. A great hotel and will definitely stay again.

Lovely staffs, always helpful. We went in early for check in. N was given the room key without a fuss, due to the off season. Bus station is right smack in front of the hotel. So plan your destination to any touristy places n be back to the comfort of the hotel room Restaurants n other amenities nearby. Good location

What a quaint, homely hotel. I absolutely enjoyed my stay. The location is perfect and situated right on the main square. And the staff was service was exceptional. They were so friendly, helpful and very accommodating. This high end hotel was extremely well appointed and the rooms were impeccably clean. Be sure to try the bar and the restaurant. Both offer great drinks, food and great Irish hospitality.

Our Stay was for Just One Evening as we Passed through Donegal. With that said we had a lovely stay and the Check-in Reception staff was prompt and courteous. However, the Bar Staff could have been a little more transparent with Last Call, and when they Closed. We found ourselves sitting at the bar with Full Pints while the Bartender closed the shutters of the Bar without a mention of last call or even that the Bar was closing. It was a little rude especially when the was an opportunity for more paying customers.

Fantastic weekend with over 30 friends staying at the Abbey and Central. Accommodation was excellent, staff were very accommodating and professional. Ate and drank at the bars and restaurants and the food was excellent. All of us had a brilliant weekend, so well done to all at the Abbey and central.

This hotel is located right in the center of town at the triangle. The staff is lovely. They are very nice and accommodating. Breakfast was a typical delicious Irish service. This is an old, quaint hotel, which we loved. The bathroom fixtures are antique, but serviceable. The mattress in our 4th floor room was very firm. We did not have a problem getting hot water (previous comment) Highly recommend!

Great hotel on the Diamond so in the centre of town. The food was very good with generous portions and we can highly recommend the fish dishes. The staff were very attentive, friendly and helpful and an asset to the hotel. Finally, the room; very clean, tidy and comfortable with a good view of the river and harbour. We hope to stay again in next year which we think means that we recommend the Abbey Hotel.

Situated right in the middle of Donegal this is an ideal hotel to be right in the middle of the town. We stayed here as part of a coach party. It would appear that this hotel is used by many coach companies. On our first night the dining room was manic. Although a very experienced member of the team was managing the dining room there was far too much going on trying to get food out for 2 large groups and a wedding reception in another part if the room. Couldn't fault the waiting staff working obviously under a great deal of pressure. Our triple room was at the back of the hotel on the 3rd floor. Room was clean but very dated. Our room was above the fans which didn't keep us awake. Other members of our party however were kept awake by the hotel entertainment and people out having a great time until the early hours of the morning. Entertainment started very late at the hotel and on asking staff what entertainment was on depending on who you asked you got a different answer!! All in all an ideal hotel if you want a lively place to stay in the middle of Donegal.

👍👍 This is an amazing Pub with great music performance, everybody here is so friendly and authentic. We decided to change our schedule to be able to re-visit tomorrow. Special thanks to Casey (I hope I got that right, if not, my apologies) for her performance, I loved the song.
