The spa is a must for couples, and it's very picturesque! the baggage men were so helpful, and alot of people on the property seemed to be very happy. The restaurants and bar keeps were also amazing from the Irish Whisky, Live Music, and food. It also seems like a great place to have a wedding. It was well worth the drive to relax and chill in a very elegant and overall splendid place

We have been coming to Lough Eske castle for many years now. The absolute highlight of this five star hotel are the staff and the immaculate grounds. Renovated in 2007 the rooms are showing their age with wear and tear and I truly believe in the next few years a few more renovations are absolutely essential. The hotel has a wonderfully relaxed atmosphere surrounding it with staff welcoming you with open hearts. The massage treatments we receive are some of the best we have ever had…and we’ve had a few. The breakfast is wholesome and hearty and the dinner in the evening is outstanding. Our kids and family loved every moment. A relaxed and tranquil stay in a solid five star hotel.

This could not of been a more perfect stay from beginning to end. As soon as you drive up you are greeted and bags are serviced to your room as well as valet parking. Red carpet in the entrance makes a grand statement. Staff all over is friendly and helpful. The room is massive with plenty of amenities to enjoy. The grounds themselves are a spectacle to enjoy. It was a pleasure to dine in and have a fantastic meal. Breakfast is amazing. If you are looking for a 5 star experience in a castle, come here.

I just got done staying here with my family. It was lovely- beyond my expectations. Continental breakfast was delicious and had good variety. Loved that there was a dinner and bar options as well. Take the 11 am castle tour with Shea!

We celebrated our wedding here 11 years ago and we return yearly to celebrate the anniversary. As always, the warm, genuine welcome, beautiful surroundings and gorgeous food make for a brilliant stay. We have just returned from another perfect visit. The rooms are beautiful, bar and restaurant are perfect and the spa service is excellent. As always, it was fantastic to see so many friendly, familiar faces. Geraldine on reception, Johnny in the restaurant, Leona in the bar, along with Donal, Stephen and the rest of the team all made our stay exceptional. We cannot recommend Lough Eske castle enough!

Our stay here was fabulous!. The room was clean and gorgeous with immense space. For dinner we ate at the restaurant on location and it was excellent, food was exceptional and what made it better was how friendly the staff was. I enjoyed how personal they were and willing to converse. After dinner the bar was open and our bartender was fun to talk to and was not pushy nor judgmental with our drink choices. Overall a great stay!

This hotel earns all 5 stars. The rooms were like an apartment after traveling in hotels for a week, The staff read the assignment, they make you feel very welcome and very much taken care of. Unfortunately we were only here for one night. The spa looks gorgeous and the grounds magnificent. Being in Donegal it is the perfect half way mark hotel to unwind at.

I work here occasionally as a wedding photographer. The service is always first class. The location is amazing. Outside it's an amazing castle with gardens galore. Inside is stunning. Food in the bar is some of the best food in any hotel in Ireland!

A must stay! Give yourself time here to really enjoy the ambience and everything the castle has to offer. We stayed in the O’Donnell suite overlooking the fountain and castle entrance. It was hands down a highlight of our trip. Spa was great, we did the thermal treatment with the outdoor hot tub. Plenty of paths to walk (or bike) the grounds. The bar is open late and Alan is a grand time, shout-out Alan! Gerard and Michael were helpful with our bags and bikes. Charlene was very welcoming when we checked in really late. Just book your stay here! You won’t regret it.

A truly delightful one night stay in a beautiful setting. The stay from beginning to end exceeded my expectations. The drive up the private road to the Castle was lovely, upon seeing the building we knew we made a great choice. The moment we arrived we were greeted by friendly, professional staff who valet our car and took our bags and us to the check in desk and then to our rooms. The rooms were huge and well furnished and the bathrooms were spacious and comfortable with both a standup shower and huge tub, double sinks and private water closet. The grounds are well maintained, the English Gardens are stunning. The guided tour offered to the guests was very informative and entertaining as well. Each exquisitely decorated room rich with history. We enjoyed cocktails and appetizers in the gorgeous bar. The spa was very impressive as well. A walk to the Lake is worth the trip to view its simple beauty. A pricey stay but so worth the experience.

I wanted to absolutely love this hotel, we were looking so forward to our stay. It was beautiful, there is no question. The rooms were nice, and the grounds were very pretty. We were so excited to end our holiday here. Dinner was good, and they actually had my husband's favorite whiskey for a Manhattan. My problem with it was the lack of heat. I woke up around midnight absolutely freezing. I called down to the front desk to ask where I could turn the heat up. They said they would take care of it. I called down a bit later as it was still freezing (by this time, I had pants on, as well as the bathrobe they offer. They told me the heat control was in the bathroom. I looked all over the bathroom, and finally called back down to have them help me find it. The control, was a foot down from the CEILING! I pulled a desk chair in there and tried to adjust it. Mind you I just want to get warm and fall asleep. Not try to break my neck. The next morning, as we were checking out, I asked them about it. The woman said, well the turn the heat off at night???? What the heck, I don't know whether to be more upset that we paid that much for the rooms with no heat, or the fact the night clerk had me pulling a chair in the bathroom to try to break my neck. And they never even apologized. Needless to say, I would not recommend the hotel. Google takes this review down, because it is negative. It is all a very honest review of our experience.

We went here for afternoon tea. The staff were friendly, attentive, and very helpful. I was blown away by the gluten-free options at afternoon tea. I was really expecting the same old gluten-free dry scones and bread, but no, it was amazing. The atmosphere was lovely with a gentleman playing piano. I will definitely be back!

Such a wonderful place to stay! I received the best service here of anywhere in Ireland on my holiday. The bath was large enough for me to relax with wine and a book. The floors were heated, bed was comfortable and food ordered from the bar was good. Loved the sticky toffee pudding! This castle is a bit larger than others I’ve stayed in with more guests causing it to feel a bit less personal, but still wonderful. I would highly recommend this hotel and my thanks go to Gerrald and the team for helping create such a lovely stay.

Charlene's professionalism, combined with her warm and welcoming nature, set the perfect tone for our visit. Her exceptional customer service skills and attentiveness made us feel valued and appreciated as guests. Charlene's dedication to ensuring a positive experience truly stood out and contributed immensely to our enjoyable stay at the castle.

My partner and I have just returned from a fantastic two night stay at Lough Eske. From the welcome at check in with Geraldine and Gerard, to the fantastic service in Cedars restaurant from Johnny James and team, everything was top notch. We had the afternoon tea which was a nice treat and the spa treatments in CARA were fantastic. We would highly recommend the food in Cedars - absolutely first class and the best fillet steaks we have ever had. Breakfast was also great and would advise you try the eggs royale. Thank you for making our anniversary so special!

The staff were very warm and welcoming and always eager to please. The service was excellent in all aspects of our stay from reception, waiters, bag handlers etc. The hotel itself is very pretty, very clean and drips character at every turn. If you smoke or vape there's no sheltered areas outside the bars so if its raining your only option is to go to the restaurant, which isn't ideal. Spa was excellent and the staff lovely, not to mention very well informed and helpful.

We went to Lough Eske for a wedding, and while this was an expensive stay, it really was a wonderful experience if you like old world Irish charm and luxury. I would rate it 4.5 in general. The grounds were beautiful, the staff very attentive and the food was great - breakfast offered varied and delicious options. Dylan on the entrance welcomed us warmly and was very knowledgeable , giving us info on the history of the castle and also on walks and trips around. On the negative, despite ringing and emailing twice to ask for the room to be ready 1-1.5 hours before normal checkin time (3pm) so that we could change there, it was not available. We did get a deluxe suite which helped. The other thing was that room service response was not great - we rang for water and also when the hairdryer didn’t work…neither time did we get through to housekeeping or reception. Although we did get both things in the end. We went to the spa, but didn’t use it, again though it looked very good. Overall while it’s a little too palatial for us to go back other then for a special occasion, it was really an excellent stay in very well maintained castle.

Lough Eske Castle is about as picturesque as you could possibly expect. From the long, winding driveway, to the first view of the castle, it's absolutely beautiful. Staff were outside waving to us as we pulled up to the front - which was a nice touch. Everyone we met was very friendly and helpful. The rooms are huge, very spacious bathrooms as well. The food was great in the restaurant for both dinner and breakfast when we stayed. The bar had plenty of options, and the bartenders were quick and responsive. The grounds are well maintained and have beautiful gardens. You can use the bikes that are available for use as well, we took them down to the Celtic Cross further down the driveway. Overall, this experience was definitely one of the highlights of our trip.

The staff is excellent. The location is great. This hotel is a great couples retreat. The hotel is not really a “children oriented” facility so it’s more of an adult oasis. This is is nice compared to many places in Ireland which are overrun by kids. Excellent bars (there are two). The restaurant is very good. Very good dinner. One of the best breakfast buffets we encountered in Ireland. One odd nick is that the restaurant and the bars have a VERY limited wine selection. For a high class establishment like this we were surprised. The only other issue we had was the lack of AC in the rooms. It was warm in July and our room was on ground floor with only French doors to open for ventilation. Leaving the doors open at night isn’t an option of course so it was difficult to sleep in the toasty room. Fantastic place!

Hidden just outside Donegal town. A great spot to just chill and relax in 5 star hotel. Staff more than helpful and friendly. The food was amazing although the menus could do with a few more options. The rooms are spacious and clean. Worth the trip rest relax and unwind in the spa and pool. Give it a try if you like peace and quite.

This was a spectacular property! Off the beaten path, but in a place you will want to visit. Every staff member was outstanding. From the person directing us as we drove towards the rear entrance on our arrival to the person who unloaded the luggage, the team that checked us in and finally, Shea Kildea, who is everything a concierge is suppose to be! Shea was friendly, funny, knowledgeable and energetic about assisting our visit to the area. The property is stunning. The castle, the decor and especially the sculpture garden. The bar area was welcoming and provided a wonderful spot to have a pint and complete some work. Cedars restaurant provided the best meal of our week in Ireland.

Excellent experience overall. Our family hotel room was fabulous and so comfortable though others who stayed as part of our party didn't get a room as nice as ours. The food was excellent though expensive. We very much enjoyed our stay.

Amazing, best of everything. The staff is so super helpful and friendly. Anything you want they will get for you. Heated bathroom floors. Didn't get to use the spa, my fault. Not sure about price as we got it in a package deal. Can't say enough amazing stuff. Also so beautiful!

Lough Eske Castle is an absolutely stunning, elegant hotel! I felt like I had walked into a fairy tale, as I was certainly treated like a queen during my stay. Delicious food and very attentive staff. I loved my large and luxurious room (and beautifully designed bathroom)! And the hotel grounds were fabulous, with all the lovely art pieces and beautiful gardens. If I'm ever in the Donegal area again, I will definitely return!

This is listed as a 5-star hotel but staffing shortages following the pandemic have taken the luster out of those stars. Dylan took care of us and may very well be the fifth star himself. Popular spot in Donegal for wedding receptions, although the amenities of the castle are fairly limited. Rooms are large with spacious bathrooms, although we had to wait nearly an hour for our room to be ready at 6pm.

  • 3/5 Samuel L. 1 year ago on Google
Overall it's good. But for the price you would expect a bit more. Most things in the rooms are built cheap, there's moisture in the shower but the bed is extremely comfortable. Restaurant taste good but the service and the the vibe ain't so great, like there is no attention to the details.

Be lucky if you have the Barry attending you in the check-in, he's the most kindly, friendly and helpful person in the reception. The rooms is really clean and beautiful. The location if you're a traveller without a car you'll be needing a taxi for going to the hotel. Is really incredible view, mountains around, good food too.

Just back from 2 night stay & we had a wonderful stay! The staff were helpful & friendly, not was too much. The grounds were beautiful but due to the Irish weather wasn't able to enjoy it to the fullest. The bedroom was spacious & luxurious. The food was tasty & delicious. The spa facilities was amazing. definitely do the afternoon tea if you get the catch. I would highly recommend the hotel & can't wait to go back.

This is above and beyond our favorite hotel of our entire trip to Ireland. The service is impeccable! Never have we been taken better care of while traveling. So so nice and attentive. The food was delicious. The bar was nice and the staff in the bar tried to make sure we got our fav table each time. ATTENTION TO DETAIL! I can not recommend this place enough. Make sure to add Lough Eske Castle to your itinerary ❤️

Excellent Hotel. Very nice rooms and super professional staff. Swimming pool and spa area are pristine. Breakfast was a fabulous. The sausages supplied by a local butcher were outstanding (apparently to a secret formula). Good commercial rates if your travelling for work Sunday to Thursday.

My husband and I spent two fantastic nights in lough eske castle for my birthday. I can't say enough good things about this place. Rooms are amazing and so quiet. Food is excellent. The Father Browne bar is really interesting. So many comfortable places to sit and relax throughout the castle, the castle grounds are great to walk around and the Spa is one of the best I've been to. What made are stay so good was the staff. Everyone of them were so friendly and really made our stay 5 star. We had a brilliant history tour of the castle from Dylan, definitely recommend and had some great chats with the bar staff. I cannot recommend this place enough if I could give it 10 stars I would. We will definitely be back in the spring.

Just stopped in for lunch in the bar with my young family and sister in law. It was a super high class and very friendly experience with fantastic food and service. Special mention to the very friendly door staff and the Galway man who helped me with my parking, pram and took some great photos for us. Good lads like him that make the experience memorable and now we hope to come back and stay for a night or two next time. Top Marks from us.

Spotless clean, friendly staff, good food, clean pool, ample parking, just spent 4 nights here with the family. Wasn’t cheap but worth it for a treat. Geraldine who checked us in was a great ambassador for the hotel. Keep up the great service.

My mom and I visited Lough Eske Castle in early October, and it was amazing. We booked the garden view room, with the dinner and breakfast package and it was worth every penny. From the moment we arrived and Dylan helped with our bags and valet parked the car (didn’t realize that was how it worked and it was lovely!), to Shae showing us to our room with our bags, and explaining everything so kindly, to the incredibly attentive wait staff during dinner and breakfast (thank you especially to Genuta and Thor! And whoever cooked our food that night! Haha), we had a beautiful visit. We also enjoyed a moody walk to the lake, and around the grounds. Anyone who can’t see that the staff is working so hard to create a memorable experience has lost perspective. It’s a gorgeous place to visit, and we would stay again in a heartbeat (and hope to!)

We went for an afternoon tea, but unfortunately we arrived late. We decided to stay for coffee and some desserts from their menu instead. The coffee and the desserts where superb, very well presented, however the service was very slow and not very proactive. We had to walk us in, and also had to stand up and walk to the waiter and order. But other than that, the place is nice.

  • 5/5 Dan M. 7 months ago on Google
Can't say enough nice things about this establishment! They always offered to take our bags and even walked us into our room and explained how everything worked. When I wasn't feeling well they helped me ring a nurse and provided us as many water bottles as we could go through. Even when I was unable to tip due to not having any cash euros, they never complained about parking our car or bringing it around front. Easily the best of the 4 hotels we stayed in during this trip.

  • 5/5 Sarah C. 11 months ago on Google
The rooms are a bit stuffy and we couldn't get the windows open. We reluctantly slept with the balcony door open for air. The bathroom floors are heated. The steam room is awesome. The pool has massage jets for back and shoulders, a dedicated shallow area for small toddlers to play in the water, and a seating area that has bubbles(adult). Excellent breakfast included. The lounge had excellent cocktails and food with live entertainment.

This is definitely a 5 star hotel. We were with Love Irish Tours so was only able to stay 1 night, that 1 night spoiled us. Highly recommend this hotel when staying in Ireland. Wish we had more time there.

I went for a meal here a few times now and it is always fantastic. The food is superb, the hosting is great and it is such a beautiful place to walk around after you've enjoyed your meal. I've never stayed here as its a bit too pricey for me but I'm sure it's worth it.

We stayed here for one night last Saturday in a deluxe double room. The room and bathroom were huge, luxurious and clean and included tea / coffee, water and fridge. The service was top class from check in to late (and much appreciated) check out. Bar food was good (as was the service, live music and craic until 3am), breakfast was excellent. The pool and steam room were not busy, modern and really well maintained and staffed. Well done to all of the staff and management at Lough Eske, we will stay for longer next time.

This is a great hotel and really well run. In particular I want to highlight the incredibly professional manager who helped us when we lost one of the children among our large party. Despite a large wedding arriving just at the moment, the manager gave us full attention, stayed calm, and gave us peace of mind in terms of a professional process in helping us locate the missing child. All that on top of a million other problems I assume he has to deal with. Anyway it all ended well - thank you staff and manager of Lough Eske

Beautiful hotel in a beautiful setting. Rooms excellent sadly service very slow. Time lapse between courses of dinner was rather annoying. Food was excellent and staff friendly and helpful

The castle part of the hotel is stunning. Breakfast area is very similar to many other hotels. The staff are very friendly, welcoming and professional. I was there for a wedding and although the food was of a very high standard and quality it took over 3 and a half hours for the meal to be served. The room I had was spacious and comfortable with everything you would expect from a 5 star hotel however slightly over priced.

  • 3/5 Michael M. 7 months ago on Google
This is a lovely and well located venue. However, ownership must recognize that not having heat (and the portable heater not functional!) is NOT acceptable at this price point. The massage service, btw, was excellent!

  • 5/5 Hannah J. 7 months ago on Google
Beautiful venue! Came for a friends wedding. Everyone was so friendly. When going to the upstairs bar, you need to be sat down to order you can't go to the bar. Outside terrace was lovely as it was a gorgeous day, some quite uneven paving stones to be careful of. Only 15mins from donegal Town centre

  • 5/5 Shannon L. 8 months ago on Google
Completely picturesque setting. The whole drive up is beautiful. Inside the hotel is no exception and the staff are some of the most welcoming and attentive we've ever met. We stayed in a deluxe guest room and it was immaculately clean and comfortable. The only downfall was the WiFi, which we needed for work, it was very slow and disconnected often but we were able to overlook this as everything else was perfect. Just to note that the spa and pool were in a separate outside building which we weren't aware of but it wasn't an issue for us. Food in the lounge bar was very limited in terms of a dinner menu, as there was a private event in the father browne bar which was disappointing, however the food was still very good and we called back in the evening for some cocktails. Highly recommend for couples and even families as we would visit again with our kids.

We stayed at Lough Eske in March for 2 nights. Such a beautiful spot. The accommodations were absolutely beautiful. Our room was spacious. The grounds magnificent. Breakfast was delicious. Staff were so very warm, and welcoming. Our steak dinners were excellent. Shea, the porter was such a great person. Very friendly and helpful. Enjoyed my conversations with him. Would certainly return to the Castle if we were to return to Ireland. Many thanks.

Staff (Service) is great. The rooms are spacious but we got a room on the other side of the hotel and it was a long long walk from the main building. In room Wifi Internet connection was not great. Food was good. Nice grounds.

We had a two night stay at Eske Castle which we enjoyed . We found the staff friendly and helpful, rooms were lovely and very clean, the only thing we were a little disappointed was with the food . Hot buffet breakfast was very disappointing as when we arrived down there was very little people in having breakfast and yet a few of the dishes were empty and what was left of the eggs should have been binned. Also dinner the night before in the bar one of them was not eaten as the batter on the fish was very thick, the steaks the second night were full of fat and not cooked as we had asked .
