The trail around Flanagan lake is very windy and cold. Be ready to wear layers. There are barely any trees, and not enough shade in summer. I like that there is a bridge, and I can walk for 2.5 miles instead of 5.5 miles. There is currently ongoing construction in many areas around the lake and by the trail. The trail is 5.5 miles long. Edit: the bathrooms are currently open. Neat and clean on 168 and Fort Street parking:)

Such a great place! With walking/biking trails, kayak and paddleboarding rentals. Also has a public restroom, picnic tables and great spots for photos. Clean lake with docking and boat launch spots plus good fishing off the banks.

Fairly new flood control reservoir. Nice path for biking, walking, and running. Once they have the dirt path from the West Papio Trail at Fort Street, up to the dam path, it will be a much safer route in all weather. Fishing is ok, and the sculptures and benches are interesting.

Really pretty lake, once you get to the back portion. The section near the parking lot and dam is pretty sparse. Once you get into the other end, it's a pretty nice prairie lake. Lots of small wildlife.

A great place to walk or bike. The sunsets are great. There is a wonderful park area as well. Always an enjoyable time. Haven't been on the water yet but planning on getting the kayak out in the spring.

Nice big lake. New trees planted. Will take some years for them to provide shade, but will be really nice once they do. Long nice path around the lake. Lots of random seating albeit a bit odd seating at times. Playground. Overhead shade in a couple spots.

Flanagan Lake is situated between Fort Street, Ida Street, and State Street. This is the largest man made lake in the Omaha/Bennington Nebraska area with a hiking/biking trail of approximately 5.2 miles. There are bathrooms spots in certain areas (close to the public picnic areas). At the apex of the trail, the hiker will be met with water on either side where the sunset is very soothing at an evening hour. Canoes and boats are welcome for a relaxing time on the water. Nice spots to cast lines into the water for fishing.

If you love birding with your binoculars while kayaking, this is a great place to do it! We saw Forster's terns, a bald eagle, a couple of juvenile eagles, kingfishers, red-headed woodpeckers, and lots of purple martins, herons, geese, and ducks while kayaking the lake in July. The north playground area is a great place to set up your telescope for night sky gazing. My only complaint is that I wish that the lake was surrounded by trees instead of housing developments.

The dock at the boat ramp is too high. It needs to be moved down to the lake to make launching and loading easier. As it is there isn't enough space to tie an average size boat and have room to back in your trailer.

Fun place to go kayaking, a little windy for my visit but it was a good afternoon! There is a shack that rents out both kayaks and paddle boards so it's nice and accessable.

Great trail around the lake. I don't think it's possible, but I wish there was a way to have a beach.

Could have been a good lake, if they would have had camping instead overpriced homes.

Amazing newish addition to the Northwest Omaha area. Great trail. Decided to take a walk and took way longer than expected since was not aware of the full length around the lake. Has amazing views wish the tree's were cut before flooding the valley to give it more a real lake feel.

Nice walk. Surprised there were no portapotties or water except by the boat ramp. Be prepared if circling the lake.

Very nice new park. Mature trees will make it more scenic.

Once housing is developed will probably not be as nice. Will become more residential than recreational

Nice, wide walking/bike paths. Rolling hills that are good for some exercise. The approximate 5mile loop is a nice size.

Trail around the lake is great for running and bicycling. Kayaking and Stand-up Paddleboarding are fun activities to do there also.

Developing recreational area with all the amenities you need for family fun. Decent sized path for traffic completely around this lake. Watercraft is welcome!!!!!

Great trail but there is NO shade

  • 4/5 Brian P. 3 years ago on Google
Great lake, only opened recently. Due to being new, shade trees are almost non-existant. That said, still a nice clean lake and walking area. Small boat landing and good for biking, walking, or kayaking.

Great place to be outdoors. It has a 5.2 mile trail all the way around OR just go part way on either the lower trail or the upper trail by going on the bridge. People like to walk, run and bike on the trails with a nice breeze cuz it's open country. A couple of picnic shelters and restrooms flank the lake. Also available is catch & release fishing, kayaking and paddle boarding. It seems the paddle boards are for rent by appointment and it's a no-wake lake.

Love the trails around the lake. Very little tree coverage so definitely something to keep in mind on hot, sunny days.

  • 5/5 Riana A. 3 years ago on Google
Good lake for kayaking. No shade trees, or anywhere to sit, but there is a public toilet. Kayak boat launch, though we launched from the edge just fine

  • 4/5 Kory K. 3 years ago on Google
More than PLENTY of shoreline for fishing. It's only 2 or 3 years old but give it a few more and there will be some good sized bass in this huge lake.

Not very many trees around lake and not very busy

Beautiful day for a Rollerskate Jam!!

  • 5/5 Patrick M. 3 years ago on Google
One of our family's favorite spots. Ducks, geese, even a bald eagle once. There are wide concrete paths with benches spaced just right, and enough distance around the entire lake for a fair amount of exercise.

Love the lake but not the parking. They definitely need a second parking lot. Took the boat out one day and there were literally no parking spots after we already had the boat in the water. Lot's of people there for the trails or kayaking. Wish they had more parking other than that the lake is beautiful and good fishing.

great place the first 2 years for biking and walking but this year the concrete on the trails is cracking rising their is one section that has corrugation like concrete and also in the same area their is a hill and their is a 45 degree angle rise in the concrete so if you are on a bike and pass the dam first the rise is that way and you have to stand up just to get over the hill you wouldn't have to do that if they didn't rush the making of the park. already this year they have had to replace many of the sections. the fishing is over fished and people don't care if their is no taking the fish they will just take the fish and in the spring, summer, and fall their is too much moss in all the places near land so if you cast out then you reel back in you are most likely to get lots of moss on your liur.

Easy to get to, 2 areas for parking with restrooms and a couple 4 table pavilions, no running water so prepare accordingly. Not crowded at all but LOTS or room to spread out and numerous launches for kayaks and a marina area for trailers boats. Wide paved 5.2 mile trail goes all the way around the lake, adjustments can be made for shorter distances using the Ida Street Bridge. Our group of 13 had no issues distancing and all the other visitors were accomodating and friendly. Walk, stroll, bike and runner friendly. Great place to finish the Army 10 Miler!

Nice trail with smooth pavement, perfect for jogging, skateboarding/longboarding and rollerblading. There were even two bald eagles circling the lake in the early afternoon. It wi grow into an even more beautiful park in 5-10 years.

Beautiful walking trails years from now it will have more shade to block the wind but it’s still a win in my book.

Newer park. Not any shade to speak of but there are public bathrooms and you can reserve/rent kayaks and paddle boards.
