Pub is nicely decorated in a lovely location, opposite the quay. Service was really friendly and I was only popping in for a pint initially but as a lone female, I felt very comfortable here so decided to stay for food too. Pie, mash, seasonal veg and gravy were delicious. Couldn't fault it. Would recommend a visit here.

Disappointed as I was overcharged by the manager Johnny (overheard the name while he served other customers). When challenged, I was completely dismissed and ignored. He didn’t actually count the money I gave him, it just got thrown in the till. It was my first & only drink of the night. I had just finished work, wanted to unwind. (About an hour and a half ago). Looked like a great crowd in & atmosphere. Live music was awesome. Majority of staff working hard. Completely understand Saturdays are busy but it left a sour taste. Back bar was messy, bottle caps and tissue all over the floor (watched Johnny try to flick off bottle caps while opening old mout) bins overflowing, bar was really sticky. (Just simple things you can keep on top of when on the bar). Got a first hand glance at free pouring as well (illegal in the IOM but seems to be fine when busy). Just very disappointed. I was a local to the area and to The British but don’t think I would return after this experience. I hope the feedback is taken onboard and maybe some more time is taken out for training.

Called for a couple of beers after work. Good beer & very friendly staff. Sat outside in the sunshine.

Excellent pub situated on the Harbour in Douglas, Isle of Man. Okells bitter is quality.

Food wasn't available when I went in, but lovely, polite and helpful staff. Great location on the Quay, with views of the boats. Great for people watching 😉

Lovely British pub. Good food and not to expensive. Friendly staff. Even took their time to enquire if I don't know where I was going as I've been brooding over bus and train time tables!

Great pub, lovely food and not overly priced gin and tonics which was a surprise. Great place to meet friends, very spacious inside. With the added bonus to sit outside in the sun early evening and watch the world go by.

A good sized pub with a good sized outdoor area too. The pub is right by harbour and is glorious in the sunshine. There's a good selection of beers, wines and spirits and the staff were happy to help and join in banter with the customers. All good jest and clean fun. Not eaten here so haven't marked any stars up for that but word of mouth seems to be that it's worth a try.

My wife and I visited the British Hotel whilst on holiday on the Isle of Man in June 2023. The staff were incredibly friendly and welcoming - so much so that we returned twice more during our stay! The menu is very good, with vegan and vegetarian options and plenty of pub classics. The 'Specials' board is always worth a look as well. There is a broad selection of beers available, including some from the local breweries. I have no hesitation in heartily recommending the British Hotel to anyone visiting Douglas.

In a convenient location with easy access to town centre and plenty of parking nearby. Food was fine, decent "pub grub", nothing fancy but a good sized portion and decent value for money Our main gripe was that despite the pub being quiet the food was very, very slow to arrive, nearly 40 minutes. Hopefully we just caught them on a bad day and will be quicker next time.

Went in for Sunday roast - one of the best we've ever had. Good portions, tasty and every part cooked to perfection. Friendly staff, good atmosphere and that genuine pub feel that I feel is fading away in some places. Fantastic

Weeks holiday staying close by and after first visit returned twice more. Called in early to book and wonderful staff suggested nice corner table. I had sole... amazingly cooked and much less than the local restaurants. Took a photo to show family at home it was that tasty. Hubby had pub made pie and fish and chips. "All lovely " Had a great chat with a local couple enjoying dinner there. The staff were always patient, and smiling no matter how busy they got. This is a hidden gem...

Party in the Executive Room was well serviced. The French doors swung wide open was perfect for the hot weather. The Lasagne was so good!

We visited on a Sunday, when the kitchen closes early, so we had to come back the following day to enjoy the steak and Guinness pie. We were not disappointed. There were different staff on both days, but they were all excellent, friendly, welcoming and very helpful.

The go to establishment on the island. Let the magic flow, the staff are awesome and very attentive to your needs. Great selection of drinks. As for the food, we are impressed, having the fish and chips. I normally do not eat the batter, I must say it’s on the best of all time fish and chips one has eaten. You can see the venue is very welcoming and the atmosphere flows through the premises. Thank you for the experience.

Excellent food and friendly atmosphere.

We were impressed with the establishment as a whole. Staff helpful, food was tasty sensible portions (not to big , not too small). We a bit disappointed they stopped serving food at 20h00. Would certainly go again next time I'm in town.

What a great pub. Real local bitter on hand pull, excellent individually cooked food and friendly staff. Plenty of space made us feel safe. Very friendly and efficient staff. Bonus was live band.

Great food, proper burger (not frozen), the homemade onion rings were beyond Mega! The service was fab, friendly, bit of banter, landlord welcoming. Only reason it's not 5 star, is there's not much choice on pump/draught beers.
