A professional museum for such a small island, the entrance is free. Great to learn some more about Manx tradition.

Such a lovely museum, very fascinating to see the history of the Isle of Man. The short film they let you watch was very interesting. I love anything to do with natural history and vikings so I just had to snap these photos. A cute little gift shop on the way out as well. I bought several mini keepsakes.

This place is a gem in this island. It's so lovely when it was raining outside and this indoor place is still allow you to explore the history n culture of isle of man. Btw, the staff are so friendly! For foreigners interest, The TT gallery For local, the manx history, nature species hall, really quite nice for kids to gain the knowledge here.

An amazing museum we had the chance to visit in Isle of Man when our ship was there. Definitely a must see attraction in this location if you go, with an impressive collection. Gorgeous island as well.

I loved this museum. You could spend HOURS here reading and learning about the extremely rich history of the Manx people. I won't share photos inside because you should go, but I included some beautiful things right outside the building. Plan to lose a few hours of time in here, it's larger than it seems. I will come back if I get to visit Isle of Man again!

Really informative and covered such a variety about IOM. From history of "ownership ", loads of relics, birds and animals. Has a special area just for kids and goofy (haha) adults with quirky and fun things to do...my only quirp with kids section is they had "viking" hats with horns. Unless I missed the info explaining that vikings never wore them, I don't think they are appropriate in a place of learning. Nice gift shop with a variety of items at a variety of pricemarks. Definitely stop in for a browse.

The Manx 100 exhibition is a must before it disappears. It's only taken a whole year to visit finally but worth the wait. Infact the Celtic and island history galleries are stunning. It just needs more direction and expansion.

Yes worth a visit. Entry is free, though a donation is encouraged. Has a small souvenir shop, unfortunately the cafe was closed. A good, but small element was devoted to the TT races. The only issue really is access, as it can be difficult to reach on foot.

It was lovely getting to know the history of the Manx people. My grandfather grew up on the Isle of Man and eventually had to emigrate for work, but I know he never forgot this place. I'm really grateful to the Manx Heritage Society for affording the opportunity to people like me looking to reconnect with our roots to be able to do so, especially since my grandfather passed before being able to tell me much himself. It's especially wonderful that this museum is donation-based, and so everyone has the opportunity to visit regardless of income. Thank you!

The Manx Museum is vast. There is so much to see. The museum deals with the history and archeology of the island. There is a cinema that shows a 20 minute history of the island. There is an upper level that deals the history of the TT race. There are toilets, a shop but currently no cafe. There is a little cafe up the hill called the Oestle and Mortar next to the Chemist. It is small on the inside and you might miss it but good seating inside. It serves hot and cold drinks, snacks, pannis , scones and cakes.

Great comprehensive experience of the Island and it's history! Something to see for all, from art to science, or even TT fans. Nice atmosphere, enjoyed the viking exhibit. The whale was not as scary as promised, but impressed nonetheless. The educational video at the beginning was a blast from the past, and might need some updated graphics, but it did not lessen my enjoyment!

Good classic museum, free entry and cloakroom. Loving the updated 100years exhibition. Spent about an hour in there and didn't manage to get around everything. I'd recommend at least 2 hours to take everything in. Brilliant wet weather activity.

I visited here with my 6 and 7 year old on our first trip to the Isle of Man. It was really excellent and my boys really enjoyed playing at all of the interactive areas, of which there were several. Lots of animals to learn about with videos too. There was a fun worksheet for kids to fill in on their way round whilst visiting, to help them learn and discover. The shop has great items in it too and we bought some souvenirs. A worthwhile visit if you can fit it in.

Larger than expected. Free of charge. Interesting and especially good for rainy days. Good variety of gifts in the shop and prices are reasonable. Good family day out.

Very good museum at the top of a steep hill. Can spend a few hours in here without a problem. Goes through the history of people on the island from cave man to present day. Very impressive displays like the large deer / elk.

What a wonderful showcase of the island’s history. Beautifully curated and wonderfully calm. Even as you leave the museum, you walk down a passageway that makes you feel as if you are a part of the islands rich history.

What a surprisingly fantastic museum. The exhibits were thoughtfully and expertly presented. I also saw a movie in the charming (and professional) museum cinema - Holiday 2 - narrated extracts of tourism movies from 1920 - 1973 on the Isle of Man. It was a wonderful way to spend a rainy afternoon. Will be even better when the new exhibition area is open and the cafe is open again.

I didn't get to finish going through the museum as I only had one night on the Isle of Man. I did have some quiche in the café. There is no entrance fee for the museum but they do accept donations. The museum has some interactive activities for kids and I even took one to fill out as I made my way around the museum. The only thing I knew about before I came to the Isle of Man was the TT race. After coming to the museum, I got to learn about the history of the island and its people. I can't wait to come back.

Museum gives the historical picture about Isle of Man evolution and its culture, language and people. Worth visiting TT section of museum to know TT rides and its history with model bikes

Brilliant introduction and all round history of the Isle! We began our holiday stay at the island here and it gave us lots of information and an interesting way to spend some time in Douglas. And it's free admission. We bought a heritage trail pass for the week and it was well worth it to see all the sights of history on the Isle.

Great to do on a rainy day. Plenty to see and do with smaller play areas inside for younger children (supervision will be required) Free entry to museum itself, however car park does cost. There are nearby streets that you can park down and walk from if you didn't want to pay for the carpark. There is a small gift shop with a range of toys, books, novelty items (keyring, badges etc). Museum and carpark is well sign posted so is easy to find and is a stones throw away from the center of Douglas.

Worth a look if you are interested in the social history of the Isle of man and how it has changed over the years. Well done museum, that is free! Would be improved by a cafe and people to ask in each gallery if questions arise.

Nice eclectic collection of cars, bikes etc. Is it worth the £16.50 adult admission price ??

Visited during a two day holiday. It was a great first stop to learn more about the Isle of Man before seeing more. Very interesting, well presented, and learned a lot! They were currently renovating the cafe area (so that was down), but still a lovely visit. We bought souvenir items at the gift shop that were very well produced.

I love the Manx Museum and am so glad it continues to delight. There have been some significant changes since I last visited in 2007 with plenty of new exhibitions and more coming. I am sad some of my childhood favourites have gone but I guess everything changes and moves on.

👍👍 I visited Douglas Head on a couple of occasions during my recent visit to the Isle of Man. There are superb views from Douglas Head of the Bay, Onchan Head and on a clear day you can see the Cumbrian Coast and the Windfarms in Morecambe Bay. If you fancy some exercise there is a lovely walk along Ma...
