We enjoyed our visit and tour of Fort Donelson Nat'l Battlefield. We started at the Visitor information Center. (They are renovating their headquarters, so follow the signs to a trailer.) Very well informed staff will answer any questions you have, give you a detailed map to follow. There is a recorded explanation of each of the 11 stops via your phone. Made it more interesting. Be sure to view the video at the hotel. The sacrifice of the soldiers reminds us of the freedoms we take for granted today that have come about because of these soldiers giving their very lives so we can be free. Let us never ever forget that freedom isn't free.

Love visiting this place. We did the driving tour thru all the locations. It will take a couple of hours to see everything. The visitors center is in a temporary building but still worth a stop. Anytime you can visit a historic site do it. Always something new to learn.

Who knew!? We stumbled upon this place during a visit to Kentucky Lake. Such a pivotal story of the Civil! Well maintained, plenty to see, definitely worth checking out!

As a person who loves history, this was a great place to visit. It has such a cool story, one that actually helped shape America more than I ever thought. It has several awesome views of the Cumberland River with replicas of the cannons that once protected it. The road/trail is marked well with directions on where to stop. The stops have good descriptions of what happened at each place and its significance. Some of the information boards at the stops have been weathered and damaged and need replacement. The visitor center was in the process of being remodeled. I can't wait to see how it turns out. There are several other must-see places related to this park to stop at that are scattered around Dover. All in all, a beautiful National Battlefield with a great story.

Totally enjoyed our visit. The video at the visitor's center is a must before taking a look. The numbered locations and audio from the website are a great help as you tour this location. We were there for at least 3 hours taking it all in and had to abruptly leave due to illness. We plan to go back soon to finish where we left off.

Beautiful and well-preserved battlefield. The park rangers are very nice and helpful. Great trail system if you want to hike through the park and easy signage if you want to drive it. Amazing views of the Cumberland River.

Nice educational park, overlook of Cumberland River. Canon's line the river, pretty view. Education plaques to read. Limited parking, not handicap accessible. Walking is hilly, unstable for those with balance instability.
