I don’t take writing negative reviews lightly, so this has been some time coming and is the result of a second poor experience at this hospital. This place does NOT know how to handle cats. Brought my orange boy in, and they took him back right away. After that, 4 hours of ZERO communication about his condition and what they were doing with him. It wasn’t the wait time that I found problematic but the absolute lack of communication from staff. It got to the point where I had to knock on the staff door and ask if anyone was even there. The place was desolate (so I’m not sure what took so long). I was at my wits end and about to just tell them to give me back my cat and I’ll leave. However, that is my baby, so I stuck it out in hopes they’d be able to find something and/or make him feel better. They essentially found nothing and when we asked Dr. Sowders about what was happening, he replied with a snarky response saying “well, your cat has already scratched up two of my staff members”. First of all, are your people not trained in handling agitated and scared cats? Second, what a curt thing to say to someone who is worried about their pet. Apparently this is his demeanor though based on other reviews I have seen. Clearly, this guy has zero bedside manners if you will. Needless to say, $1100 later and a severely traumatized cat, I won’t go back. I had a cat that has since passed who went here for primary care and ended up SCREAMING in the back one time, urinating on himself and I had to intervene. I’ve had too many bad experiences with rude, arrogant vets here. I take my boys to College Station Cat Clinic for their regular checkups and they NEVER have issues controlling them or keeping them calm and safe. Seems VCA needs more training on working with cats. I’m the type of pet owner that will fork out whatever costs I need for my babies, but I’ll be darned if I give another penny to VCA Arboretum. I felt so bad for my kitty and wish I had just waited a few more hours and taken him to College Station instead of this ER.

I called today to ask about a possible ear surgery for my dog. I spoke with Alex, who is a surgical coordinator if I remember his title correctly. I cannot rave enough about the help I received over the phone. I learned more in my 20 minute phone call with Alex than I have in years of medical appointments for my dog. You can tell he genuinely cares about dogs and makes their owner's concerns feel heard, understood, and valid. Such an asset to your team! Alex, thank you from Uncle Jesse and I. <3

Came in last night 5/26/23 with our 4 year old pup after having a possible toxin ingestion. They triaged us, and everyone else we saw come in, quickly and got our baby taken care of. All of the staff was kind and accommodating, Dr. B was great and gave us all of the options for treatment, answered questions and was supportive of our choices. They have since been very helpful transferring records to our other vet’s office’s. Emergency visits are always expensive but we really appreciate having an emergency vet so close that we can trust. Thank you!!

My pup has been here twice for emergency issues, unfortunately. The team at this location is awesome. The staff was able to make this situation as calm as it could be, given my stress and my worried state of mind about my pup's outcome. From the front desk to the providers, they showed empathy, care and concern, and kindness. On a financial aspect, they provided a detailed estimate on how low or high on what the cost may be. That was very helpful to me, as cost is something that stresses many pet owners. The physicians gave professional, objective info how what his outcome may be, without ever pushing me in any direction. When I called for updates regarding my pup, I never felt like I was a burden for calling. Scott and Kathleen are the physicians that cared for my dog and they are both professional, knowledgable, and compassionate. If you ever find yourself in the unfortunate situation of bringing your pet to the ER, this is the place to go. Thanks for your dedication and hard work.

Had to write a review as they've saved our Dalmatian, Phil twice! Once was when he had bladder stones blocking his urine. The doctor took great care of him, explained they could flush the stones back into his bladder giving him relief and keeping him healthy until we could get him to our primary vet to get the stones removed. Last week we determined he ingested a stuffed toy he shouldn't have! We were able to get a surgery on schedule for him the same day to remove the object and he was taken care of and they told me I could call whenever I wanted to check on his status. I even got to go upstairs to the actual ER to see him before surgery and was impressed how it's like a legit regular ER you would see at a normal hospital. He was able to come home the next day and the Doctor walked me through specific care instructions for him. They were upfront with costs with me and broke down the high end costs of the surgery which I appreciated. It didn't end up being as much as the high end, but I appreciate them bringing it up so there are no surprises. It's an ER so it's not cheap.. but it's not unreasonable considering the 24/7 care you can get here. Here's a tip.. get Pet Insurance! It's not that expensive and is great to use in case of emergencies. This is a full on animal hospital so if you have an emergency that could be complicated, don't hesitate to come here.

I normally do not leave reviews, but VCA did so much for my dog as well as me, personally. They were able to get her into emergency surgery same day without an appointment in order to ensure my dog had an excellent chance at recovery. Dr. Birkle personally called me to update every step of the way and answered every question I had. The vet techs assured me that they were giving my dog love during this awful time and even sent an update picture after her surgery where she looked so comfortable. I cannot thank them enough!

We brought our dog here when she was going into heart failure and struggling to breathe. The staff was gentle and kind. They walked us through the end of life options with deep care and empathy. It is an awful thing to have to do, and they made the experience as positive as possible for our sweet girl. Thank you.

Just simply amazing, called ahead and when I got there they had a gurney waiting, vet was honest, techs were amazing. Thank you for saving my puppies life!
