Upbeat and quick service. Open space, love the outdoor space too. Cute selection of drinks. Food never disappoints, it also feels fresh and clean. Beyond chili oil, I love it that the food isn't so heavily drenched in grease. I don't think I've ever come here without ordering the beef noodle soup and the beef roll! 🤤

Excellent flavors of SE Asian cuisine in the heart of LA. Their seasonal vegetables are done perfectly with the right amount of seasoning to keep the nuanced flavors of the plants. Their beef noodle soup had surprisingly good quality beef (not always the case in noodle soups) and their hot and sour soup was an elegant mix of fresh mushrooms, tofu and seasoning. The venue is inspired by modern style with plenty of indoor and outdoor seating options. Pine and Crane is located a short walk east from the LA Live area just South of the financial district.

This is the second location, situated beside the original one in Silver Lake. Pine & Crane is a laid-back Taiwanese restaurant with a fantastic ambiance that gives off a cozy outdoor courtyard garden vibe. It's the perfect spot for a lunch date or a quick catch-up with friends. The restaurant is impeccably clean, and the servers are incredibly friendly, offering excellent menu recommendations. However, I have to admit that the food here is just okay, and I believe it's somewhat overrated. The dishes tend to be on the salty and sweet side, resembling more of an Americanized Taiwanese cuisine. I had a disappointing experience with the beef roll, as it had an excessive amount of hoisin sauce. If you're a native Chinese/Taiwanese, I recommend not setting your food expectations too high. -1 star for the food. Quick tips: When you enter, you'll need to line up at the cashier right by the entrance to place your order. Afterward, you can choose an open table, and they'll bring the food to you. They offer self-serve tap water and sparkling water.

Cool modern simple decor. Food was decent but just slightly over flavored for my preference, eg the beef noodle soup had a little too much soy sauce, I think the hot and sour soup would have tasted a bit better if both of those flavors were turned down one notch, the sha guan noodles were just a little too oily. Service was efficient and fast from the counter. Price was reasonable. Would come back to try the Taiwanese whisky selection and cocktails.

Out the gate I have to say this place is extraordinary. I say that for three reasons, the food is absolutely amazing, but not just food, food with diverse layers of flavor and freshness. You get the sense of international cuisine. They pay attention to detail from the spices and utensils on your table to something as simple as bringing a timer out so you know when your tea is finished. In the dining room, they have their own sparkling water dispenser, and the water comes out cold. I would love to share my experience with you as a contractor, however. As a electrical contractor, we have the opportunity and sometimes the privilege of going in the rear section of the restaurant where the kitchen is located. We see hands on what goes on back there. I have to tell you there are restaurants that we have serviced , but will never eat in because of the lack of cleanliness. At Pine And Crane And Joy Restaurants , the kitchens are extremely clean. The food is obviously fresh. There are no foul odors the employees give great attention to cleanliness, and it’s obvious. For that reason alone, I recommend Pine And Crane And Joy Restaurants but don’t take it from me check it out for yourself and I’m sure you will enjoy everything you eat.

To order, you line in front of the cashier, order your food for dine-in or take out. They will give you a number for dine-in food ti be delivered to your seat or pick up take out order. There is a water station at the far end of the restaurant where you could choose filtered still water or carbonated water. Pretty efficient fast food order setup for potential slow food dine-in. Solid Taiwanese cuisine. I love the environment and airy outdoor setting. The chives cakes are one of the best in LA. Also love their tea & beverage selection. There are small selection of wines as well. Street metered parking nearby. I will be back to try other items on the menu, especially the soup noodles.

Downtown outpost of popular Taiwanese spot. Came here with a couple other friends on a Saturday night around 7:30pm and there was a short line, but we didn’t have to wait too long. Metered street parking. Indoor and outdoor parking available. Credit cards accepted. They do serve alcohol. It’s good for small groups though they did have an indoor table that fit one larger group. The popcorn chicken was a generous size and was very crispy. I would get that again as well as the Dan Dan noodles. I also did like the beef roll, which came cut into 4 slices. The shrimp wontons came in 5 and were decent. The Taiwanese sausage sticky rice was alright but I wouldn’t get it again, nor would I get the egg and chive pockets. The dessert mochi had both peanut sprinkling as well as black sesame. I think there was too much of the dusting and not enough mochi, but I did enjoy the dessert. The waiters were all really nice.

Great food > Typically prefer spicier Chinese / Taiwanese, but Pine & Crane beat expectations! > Didn't realize how much creativity and upside there was in an updated take on Taiwanese home-cooking, but wow, it's great!

I really loved everything about this place! The food is delicious and affordably priced and the dining area feels clean and inviting. I was worried we would order and then not be able to find a table due to the line but luckily the staff will find you a table once you order at the front- easy peasy. Great natural wine selection to go with your meal. I’ll be back!

Started in Silver Lake Pine & Crane is a fast-casual Taiwanese Restaurant now located in shiny South Park DTLA digs, complete with an outdoor patio and friendly staff to go with a polished seating area inside. Open for breakfast, lunch and dinner with a focus on ingredients, former Chinatown pop-up Today Starts Here contributing ideas not found at the original, it is on entry that guests will find counter-style service such that orders bought and paid for are delivered to tables in less than fifteen minutes. Part “Comfort Food” and part Street, juicy Pork Buns a bit doughy but perfectly seared on the bottom, Pine & Crane’s Fried Peanut Salad should not be overlooked by fans or novices as each bite delivers an array of Herbs and subtle spiciness. More than generous in terms of price and portion, fried Rice Cakes & Mushrooms lighter than expected while the Beef Roll finds tender meat kissed with Hoisin inside a flaky Scallion Pancake, additional highlights include Shrimp Wontons bathed in vibrant Broth and Sticky Rice with tons of umami. Open 8am to 10pm daily, Sea Salt Cream Cold Brew a good choice anytime, authenticity continues through Dessert where Red Bean, Taro, Sweet Potato and Grass Jelly can be found amidst a backdrop of everything from Shaved Ice to Rice Pudding.

Every item for breakfast was great and authentic Taiwanese food! The staff was super nice and friendly, especially the one who got me the last fantuan. He made my day! The vibe was very cozy too.

This place has a very warm and cozy environment, we sat outside in the sun and forgot about time! It’s one of those places where you order first and then sit, service was nice and quick and the food looked very aesthetically pleasing. We ordered the pork belly bun, shrimp wontons, the three cup chicken and some tea and dessert. To be honest, the food was good, but not as good as we thought it would be from the ratings. The tea was probably out favorite thing!

The food is so delicious! And make me thinking my home country! The employee are so nice! Everyone is smiling at the customers! The food served are also very quick. The price are also reasonable. Everything is so prefect, cannot give any dislike! I think I will want to visit this store again! We have ordered Beef Roll, Taiwanese Sticky Rice, Chive and Egg Pockets, Brown Sugar Milk tea, and Fresh Fruit tea. Strongly recommended is the Beef Roll! It is big and delicious. The Chive and Egg Pockets is very Taiwanese style, just like I eat in Taiwan traditional market. Recommend for people who missed Taiwan!!!!

Came in for dinner on a Saturday evening at 5pm and we were able to get a table right away. They do not take reservations. Order food at the counter and then they bring it out to your table. All the food came out very quickly, within 10 min of placing our order. All the food tasted great and the shrimp wontons were my favorite!

Genuine advice? Go with a group of friends and family style this, because everything is excellent and you're going to want to try it all (Dan Dan Noodles were one of our favorites). The flavors here are complex, unique, and deeply satisfying without any dish feeling like it's too heavy or overburdened. There was a wee wait when we went for brunch but it wasn't bad at all and was overall extremely worth it. Every dish was delicious, shareable, and light enough that you don't feel overfull, without sitting too hard that you feel bad afterwards. The atmosphere was all chill, modern, and neat. Worth every penny!

Pine & Crane is one of my favorite restaurants in LA & I especially love this downtown location. Everything is delicious but my top two are the dan dan noodles and beancurd bun! I also often order the wood ear mushroom salad, cucumbers, mapo tofu, potstickers, and fresh mochi dessert.

  • 4/5 Marsha C. 10 months ago on Google
Ambiance was inviting, bright and modern. This is a counter service place and the food comes out very quickly, right after we sat down. We tried a good portion the menu - wood ear mushrooms, lotus root salad, three cup jidori chicken, pork belly bun, shrimp wontons, beef roll, crispy rice cakes and mushrooms, Dan Dan noodles and beef noodle soup. Everything was full of flavor and our lunch group left with happy bellies. My favorites were the lotus root salad and the crispy rice cakes and mushrooms. I'll definitely be back again.

Amazing place, all the food was excellent and the service and atmosphere were great too, the prices are also super reasonable! We had the beef roll, pork dumplings, Dan Dan noodles, and some various cold veggie apps and everything was top notch. Can’t wait for another excuse to come to downtown so I can come here again!

The Dan Dan Noodles are sublime. Everyone I was with loved their food. We loved the space and ambiance: very open and bright. Great patio. Great service. Great experience. If you get a chance to go, you should!

Hands down best Taiwanese restaurant in town, as someone who’s been to Taiwan several times and explored their food (just last month) I could say that their food are to die for, their dandan noodles and dumpling, sumptuous! Plus the ambiance was calming and just perfect. But most importantly their service are 100%. I highly recommend this palace.

Overall: 3.4/5 (dine in) Pine and Crane is not your typical restaurant set up and has a unique storefront where they have moveable glass panels that gives it an open atmosphere. When you first enter, you get a coffee shop vibe where there's cute things, snacks, and drinkware on display. Outside of this cashier counter area, Pine and Crane has regular indoor and outdoor seating. However, you have to order and pay first before you can be seated at a table. The food does come out pretty quickly, and service was good. Lays Deep Ridge Chips ($6): They have cool Asian snacks that you might typically see but they were way overpriced. The Lays deep ridge chips are really good and better than the basic ones though. Eat, Drink, Man, Woman ($15): This was an interesting concoction that's mezcal based mixed with oolong tea, maraschino, gave, pineapple, lemon, and raisin tree tea cordial. My husband and I didn't like this drink and the presentation is unappealing. Walking on a Mountain Path in Spring ($14): The cocktail was very light with chrysanthemum being the main flavor profile. It also tasted refreshing thanks to the aloe. I think anyone can drink this at any time. Taiwanese Popcorn Chicken ($13): This is an Americanized version that barely has any pepper flavor and was pretty bland to be honest. Popcorn chicken is also kinda dry and overpriced too. Shrimp Wontons ($10): I'm sorry but the filling was not good at all. It was also lacking flavor and didn't soak up the red chili oil either. The Royal Asia shrimp wontons that you can get from Costco are way better. Pan Fried Pork Buns ($12): They made the steam buns way too thick so you might need an extra bite to get to the meat. The filling was okay and had more flavor than the shrimp wontons but I wouldn't get it again. Dan Dan Noodles ($11): The Dan Dan noodles were one of my favorite dishes of the night. I could be biased since I love peanut butter so the sesame-peanut sauce was divine. It looks like a lot of veggies at first but you need the refreshing cucumber to balance out the noodles' creaminess. Beef Roll ($9): The beef roll was my other favorite entree. Tastes great and is stuffed with huge beef slices. We got two orders to share with our party of 5 which was perfect. Hakka Mochi ($8): They were nice enough to comp the mochi for my cousin dad's birthday. It came with 2 different flavors: peanut and black sesame. The black sesame has a very subtle flavor. The peanut one tasted better.

A second location of the famed Pine and Crane from Silverlake. Same solid menu and options. Though, also the same "Chinese food for white ppl" flavor. Extra points for having a really nice outdoor patio area.

Love love love this place. This is my first time in this restaurant. I will definitely come back. The Taiwanese spicy chicken nuggets is absolutely amazing. It is both flavorful and very crunchy! They have a house special Taiwanese ketchup as the dipping sauce. The pan fried pork bun tastes wonderful as well, my baby loves the dish so much! We have to catch a flight in the morning, we arrived around 9:30 but only to be told the lunch menu will only start at 11. We ordered the brunch instead. But to our surprise, the sweet lady Adriana and her manager brought my favorite Taiwanese spicy chicken nuggets dish to us. They are so sweet! Not to mention the surrounding atmosphere here, excellent service and amazing food! Highly recommended!!!

Amazing food and atmosphere. For brunch, I really enjoyed the "Thousand Layer Pancakes" (see attached photo). They also have a really nice selection of loose leaf teas.

A surprisingly refreshing take on traditional Taiwanese food that preserves the authentic taste, while offering a totally different experience with a cool open space, nice music, and friendly service. There is also a good selection of dishes that our party didn't get to try, so will definitely try to visit again when we are back in town.

This place is the opinion changer of Downtown Los Angeles. Great food, staff, and atmosphere somehow in the middle of the overprice skyscrapers. Food: Wonton Soup had flavor and good portion of wontons, the dan Dan was flavorful and not dry or lacking from distinguishment, and the three cup jidori chicken comes with rice which pairs perfectly. I also had the bok choy dumplings which I recommend because of the sauce, and the forbidden dessert is properly balanced and not too sweet. Atmosphere: Yes, there is an indoor and outdoor portion, the outdoor is next to a low fence closed off park which creates a nice getaway from LA skyscrapers, and few spots had induction heat lamps for late evening Service: Food came out fast, and the location had self-serve water, plates, and other items. An introverts favorite but I could refill my water as much as I wanted without bothering anyone.

I recently had the pleasure of dining at this restaurant for Friday lunch, and I must say I was impressed. Despite the busy atmosphere, there was no shortage of seating, both indoors and outdoors, thanks to the restaurant's spacious location. The service was quick, and the staff were friendly and diverse, making for a pleasant and welcoming dining experience. My dining companions and I ordered the Wonton Noodle Soup, Beef Noodle Soup, and Three Cup Jidori Chicken. While the noodle soups were decent, they did not particularly stand out. However, the Three Cup Jidori Chicken was a standout dish with its tender meat and delicious flavor. The dish was a definite highlight of our meal and is highly recommended. Additionally, the restaurant offered complimentary sparkling water, which was a nice touch and added to the overall dining experience. The pricing was also competitive, making it an affordable option for a casual lunch. Lastly, the restrooms were clean and well-maintained, adding to the overall cleanliness and pleasantness of the establishment. Overall, I would highly recommend this restaurant for anyone looking for a delicious and affordable lunch spot. The Jidori Chicken is a must-try, and the friendly staff and spacious seating make for a comfortable and enjoyable dining experience.

Friendly staff, they’re allergy/restriction/vegan aware, and the food is phenomenal… super fast too! We had most of our food within 3 minutes of sitting down during the dinner rush. Wow. Highly recommend.

The key is to go Sunday when street parking is free! So happy I got to finally try their fan tuan. But it’s breakfast only which I found out when j tried to order two more to go after I was done eating! The daikon cake is also up there. Since we stayed through lunch we also had the beef soup and Dan Dan noodles, which is always good (I’ve had it in their other locations). Fan tuan I believe is only at this location (don’t quote me in that).

Very authentic Chinese cuisine with clean and fashionable environment. Nice interior design with great quality food. I would recommend their beef noodle and minced pork rice. Their deserts are also very delicious but one person might not be able to finish it. Parking on the street is available.
