So this is a comparison of CUBAN food to the local favorite PORTO'S..Hands down, this has the superior food - and because the don't have the volume of the other, their service is also that much better. These people know how to fry stuff. Their fried chicken taste like pork. Really great stuff - highly recommend..

Do you love some good Cuban food? Come give them a try. I wish we had stayed to try some of their food but we bought our pastries and dessert to go. Awesome variety, Everything looks fresh, there’s a line but everyone seems to be working hard to keep it moving quickly. My server was Cuban and super nice. I didn’t like the fact that the pastries were more expensive than that other Cuban place, I probably got half the bread for the same amount of money but everything was very good.

After grabbing take out dinner, I got an incredible need to grab something sweet. I didn't want to drive far, so I stopped at Tropicana. This bakery has gotten quite a make over from it's days as Tropical. I figured I could grab a guava and cream cheese pastry to satisfy my sweet tooth. Geez,. it was over $3- for that pastry. Don't get me wrong, I'll pay for something good but it was a little disappointing. I also got a cream cheese pastry and a pumpkin pie pastry. The guava and cream cheese could have had a lot more filling. Same went for the cream cheese one. That one was more dough than filling. The pumpkin pie tart looking one was okay but not worth $5- in my book. I wish the new owner all the best but maybe add a little more filling for the price you are charging for these pastries. Especially, when you could go down the road to Gigi's and get an amazing guava and cream cheese for under a dollar. I guess it's the price you pay for living in Gentrified Silver Lake... The girl at the front was super sweet.. props for good customer service!

Comparable food and pastries to Porto's Bakery or better. Just less busier than Portos. Great atmosphere with friendly staff.

The food and the pastries are delicious. Ropa vieja plate is so flavorful from the meat to the beans. Absolutely enjoyed my first visit. Reasonable prices, I don't think is expensive as commented by others. Friendly staff and really nice decor. Very unique restaurant you can't compare it to Portos.

Wow, my first Cuban restaurant experience! What a treat, excellent service w a smile. We tried Ox tail which is a delicious meal w a tasty broth & a tasty pork dish w onions similar to Carnitas. The coffee shots were also tasty, no sugar needed as you get a complimentary slice of sweet bread. Both plates came w black beans & rice, then a side of plantains (fried banana). We also took some pastries home from their wonderful bakery because, well it is so FRESH & delicious.

Tropicana is something special. The empanadas are delicious. The spicy chicken empanadas are crisp and well seasoned. The beef empanadas are served warm with a flaky crust. They also have a wonderful selection of cakes and pastries. The dine menu is also great. The turkey club is made on fresh baked cubano bread with a special kick of roasted peppers added to the classic sandwich.

Great place that is extremely under appreciated. Skip the long lines at the rival and come here. Amazing cuban sandwiches and croquettes. Staff is friendly and attentive.

I went to this place years ago, and after 5 years, I came back to get pan de dulce and found that the customer service has improved a lot. Good for you guys Try the Licuado de Mamey It's simply amazing 👏

Came here for lunch and had the ropa viejas plate. It was delicious, it came with buttered bread that was the perfect touch. The server was very attentive and refilled our drinks promptly.

If you want a place to blow your mind, go here. The fresh made orange juice, along with the pastries, are off the charts. I usually never complain to drive on the weekend for a good start to the weekend. Nothing on the menu will disappoint, so delicious!

Seems bigger parties were given more attention than a party of 2. My plate order had fried plantains instead of the garlic yuca. My husband's shake was mamey instead of mango flavor. We were hungry so we settled to eat/drink them. Service has gotten a bit poor after the pandemic. I liked my flavorful battered beef plate though.

Expansive menu of Cuban specialty dishes ranging from breakfast to dessert! Plates are organized by protein option. There is pork, beef, and chicken. If you get a diner plate, it comes with your choice of sides. I recommend the black beans and rice, I think it's the perfect compliment to most of the dishes on the menu. The dining room is small but the service is fast. This spot is perfect for a quick bite to eat!

I’ve been hearing of this place and finally on this side of town. We ordered cortaditos and a coconut pastry both were delicious. Will come back for some food next time.

Really great place and good pricing. I especially loved their pastry selections, and the black beans were delicious. I loved my meal! Service was friendly. Only issue is the parking lot was tricky to get into, just a word of caution to newcomers like me!

Been here a few times and there is always something wrong with our order but the staff is generally good. Today I ordered a Cafe Cubano (espresso) along with a Piña colada smoothie, and the dish Ropa vieja with congri and sweet plantains. However I got white rice with a side of black beans and fried yuca in a garlic sauce. Not what I asked for but they were quite busy so I went with it. My wife ordered a steak sandwich but instead received a shredded beef sandwich (Vaca frita) which the server caught and later corrected which was a first. I didn't ask for my order to be corrected because I figured I'd try something new. For desert we ordered the guava cheese pastry to go. It's always a delicious experience but maybe you won't get exactly what you asked for... But as long as your open to trying new things, is that really a bad thing? I'll let you decide.

I used to come here all the time and loved it. Went this past Saturday and service has declined. Girl that was helping us was on her phone texting while taking our order. Had to repeat what we wanted numerous times. Advise , text when you aren't busy.

Tropicana is one of the bakeries in LA that I miss dearly. Others have complained about long lines, and yes, it can be very busy at peak hours but their pastelitos de queso con guayaba are the best! I always enjoy my café con leche and pastries from here. I don’t mind waiting, it’s part of the experience.
