Outstanding diner! Great burgers, crunchy onion rings. Wonderful service and quick! If you haven't eaten here yet...GO! Definitely recommend this place!

I ordered a double cheeseburger and asked for how they do it without customizing it. To be honest I give it a four because of the size of the burger and price. The burger tasted good and well balanced in flavors without anything overpowering it. What makes it taste great is the flavor of the meat and cheese with subtle hints of grilled onion, pickles and mustard. The fries are not that great but next time I will try the tots. My wife and daughter tasted the Haystack. One of bacon, the other sausage. The bacon tasted better and less dry. I do think that the hash brown within the sandwich makes it drier and overpowers the flavor. We also tried the chilli fries and it was a bit too salty. Another problem was there were no hint of them having combos which made things pricier. Next up I will try another burger there.

Best burger in town, hands down. The quad is the right size - get it with raw onions instead of grilled, add ketchup and take mayo packets. Tots are the best of the sides. Pies are great. Loaded hash is great. You honestly cant go wrong. Kind of a mob scene at night, but you know, thats part of the fun!

This place is awesome. Small diner vibes and excellent food. You’ll want to order a second patty on your burger because they’re smashed and thin, but that’s the claim to fame here. Great service but don’t expect much room inside. Food is great whether you’re dining in or carrying out though.

Been wanting to try this place for awhile and as I was driving back north from Union Station, there it was. The building had the kind of charm you don't often see. I was greeted right as I walked in and smacked in the face with the delicious aroma of hamburgers being fried. Reasonable prices for a hamburger joint. I ordered a double cheeseburger and fries. The burger was tasty and the fries were too, just the fries weren't anything special. Lots of pie to choose from and shakes but I passed on this trip. I will return with my Dad and next time I will try the tots or rings.

The burger is great. Not sure exactly what they do but it's some magic in how they grill up the onions. Wish I had got another one it was that dang good! The chili cheese fries were good too. Nothing fancy but still a nice addition to the burger. Can't go wrong with this place and they open 24 hrs. That's winning.

A cool and historic burger joint. The cashier was friendly and service was fast. I should’ve ordered double burger. Single didn’t have enough flavor. Chill was very greasy. Price is surprisingly affordable!

The vibe is definitely a college town during the evenings. But the burger and fries are juicy, a pleasant guilty pleasure, and insatiably irresistible. Would definitely come back if I stop by again

What a great place! Open since 1937 and it's not hard to see why. I suspect there's nothing bad on the menu but we got the pork tenderloin sandwich and the patty melt, onion rings and strawberry rhubarb pie. Fantastic.

Delicious classic diner! 😋 Perfectly cooked burgers that come out crispy and juicy and served diner style with grilled onions. The service is quick and friendly in this cozy space that feels like stepping into a piece of Americana history. If you have room for dessert, the pie selection is amazing and taste great!

Amazing place with amazing food. Vibes of a waffle house or old white castle. Always very busy but worth the wait. Try the chocolate cake if you still have room!

A Kansas City icon. And rightly so. The hamburgers are great, but breakfast is better. Made from scratch, biscuits and gravy are the best in KC. Of course, eating at the bar and having a conversation with the grill cook is priceless.

The place was busy and the waitress handled everything so smoothly. She is very clearly, very good at her job. Not sure how many people are on the crushed ice lovers list but they use crushed ice! I had the French Toast and when I tell you it was delicious I mean there was the perfect balance of crispy edges and fluffy interior. I also have never seen my fiancé eat a burger so fast! He said they underpriced it for the quality. I am not the biggest pie lover, I’ll be honest, and the apple pie was something I wouldn’t turn down if offered again. If you’re okay with a bit of a crowded space and willing to sit on small circular bar stools then I recommend eating in, if not that’s okay! I would still say get it to go. It’s worth it.

Walked here from my place close by on a Saturday at 8:30 pm. Ordered a plain hamburger, fries, and strawberry cake. I was told it would be 15 minutes. It took about 10 minutes for my food to be ready. The woman taking the orders was polite, the service was fast, and the food was great. I agree with other reviews that this was the best burger I've had in KC. The fries were also great, some of the best I've had from a burger joint. The strawberry cake (vanilla cake with strawberry frosting) was also great--moist, great flavor, not too sweet. I will definitely be back. Pricey, but the great food makes up for it.

Arrived on a Friday night after midnight. Dining room was closed so the only option was takeout. There was a 30 minute wait and it was 30 degrees outside. The lady who served me said it was cool to wait in the car and come back. That worked out well because I’m a wimp when it comes to cold weather. There were lots of people standing around waiting on their food. Ordered a double burger but it was not as big as expected. It was good but next time maybe I’ll order a triple. Kinda reminded me of a large ‘Krystal’ burger. Fries were lukewarm and underwhelming. I’m sure they would be great if piping hot. Ate them all nonetheless and they gave a big helping of them. The strawberry milkshake was delicious!

Old school small diner. Seating for about 15. The line could be out the door at bar closing time. Delicious burgers! Smash burgers that you can get as many layers as you would like. The tots were amazing too. The shake machine was going strong and plenty of people ordered pie. The waitress and two kitchen staff were hustling.

These smashburgers are definitely the talk of the town. Also, a big selection of fresh pies, too! The Key Lime was fantastic. Be prepared for lines... especially after a Chiefs game.

One of a kind downtown diner featuring a surprisingly broad menu. In addition to burgers and chili, they have a deep breakfast menu (including some good biscuits and gravy). Plan on taking it away or eating in your car or while standing around, as there's almost no seating and there is almost always a little wait for everything.

I loved everything about this place! But please understand, I like old, historical, unique places. Town Topic has been in business at the same location for 85 years. The 3rd generation owner was one site. A total of less than 20 seats, stools, are available. Many orders are to go. Even the chili is historic. Only the current owner knows the secret family receipe. And only the owner makes it. And, it's a pretty good chili. The hamburger was awesome and about the right size. The onion rings, splendid. But breakfast, oh breakfast, come hungry. The portions were enormous, and the food was very good. I had eggs over easy, perfectly prepared. The sausage is KC classic. The hash browns were not stand out but still very good. Be careful of the pancake. One cake was easily 1 lb of fluffy joy. It covered the plate and then some. It arrives pre buttered and generously so. I ate less than a third and was stuffed! I even took a bowl of chili home for a late night snack. Please go, enjoy, and relish in what once was. There are too many Denny's in the world. Let's enjoy the special moments, including breakfast.

So close to 5 stars, so close. I'd still highly recommend for early morning or late night, great people & classic spot. Everything was good & the chili hit the spot, just not a major stand out compared to other options for less. Also, ordered fries, not tots. Luckily the chili was good, but just not as good without fries.

I got the double cheeseburger with grilled onions and pickles and it was easily one the of the best burgers I've had. Staff were polite and kind, and the service was great! 🎉 Not surprised Town Topic has stuck around since 1937. 🍔
