I’m not an art person but this was a nice way to spend an hour or so, especially on a rainy day. It’s free which makes it an easy decision. Several famous artists have a couple paintings here. We went when they first opened in the morning and there was almost no one there. It was kinda fun to have the museum virtually to ourselves.

Honestly, I just can’t believe that it’s free. These artists are some of the most famous in the whole world and to be able to spend a few hours here with so few other guests was awesome. I’ve been to the world famous museums but this just feels so much more personal. It’s really something special here in Dublin and it’s presented so well with really well informed and helpful staff. The exhibits of the Irish artists are provably my favorite-I kept writing down all their names, people I couldn’t believe were left out of my art classes in college. And my daughter spent loads of time staring at all the Yeats. Thank you Dublin, well done!

A very beautiful and elegant art gallery, with free entrance. It has a classical gallery setup without much innovation, but I definitely appreciate the way it's curated and the focus on women. Definitely recommend a visit.

I had an absolutely enchanting experience at the National Gallery of Ireland. From the moment I stepped through its historic doors, I was transported into a world of artistry and culture. The collection of masterpieces is awe-inspiring, showcasing the rich tapestry of human creativity. What I truly appreciated was the thoughtfully curated exhibits that allowed me to explore different eras and styles of art. The attention to detail and the passion for preserving and sharing these works shone through. The staff was not only knowledgeable but also genuinely enthusiastic about helping visitors connect with the art. The architecture of the gallery itself is a work of art, and the tranquil ambiance made it a perfect place for contemplation and inspiration. I could have spent hours, if not days, wandering through the halls, soaking in the beauty of each painting and sculpture.

Beautiful place to visit. Staff are quite helpful in each room! Just a tip before you plan on visiting, you are allowed to take pictures of the art work once your flash is off! It involves a lot of walking but there are seating areas :) (Also what I love most about the gallery is that beside each painting, there is a piece of information about the Artist and the work you're looking at)

It's amazing to see how Ireland offers culture for free. This isn't the first museum I visit here. I loved to see all perfectly cured and maintained. I was really proud, as Italian, to see many of the best Italian artists canvas here. I really enjoyed my time here, accompanied by the easy readable map and the journey along the rooms, and thus the years. The section related to Irish artists was really beautiful, the same for the section about effect of pandemic, probably a temporary exhibition. If you didn't go yet, i suggest to do that, it worths it.

If you like art, this is the place! Free entrance, a full collection from different centuries, very well organised and a lovely staff. You can spend hours exploring the museum, but you can also see everything (not so deeply) in one hour and a half, more or less.

This is my all-time favourite gallery. I think it beats London's and Edinburgh's by a mile. It is apparent from the second you enter that the directors and curators of the gallery have put intentional thought and action into creating a unique and inclusive gallery that highlights works done by more than just old white men. Usually this is saved for the temporary galleries so imagine my surprise seeing women's art throughout the permanent collection! So refreshing! I loved wandering through and seeing all the paintings. The temporary exhibit of the women members of the Royal Art Society was also very very well done. Loved every second of my visit.

A beautiful building with a vast array of classical artworks focusing on the 17th and 19th century. It's free to enter except for the seasonal exhibition. There is a nice café and good toilet facilities. The entire building is wheelchair accessible. Overall, a great gallery.

Absolutely beautiful. Free admission—located in the center of Dublin. Most certainly worth the visit; the art is astounding and the building not only historic, but breathtaking. Plan on being there for a couple of hours at least. Staff very helpful and friendly.

This is the place for art lovers in Dublin. Admission is free which is a big plus. It's a reasonably sized art museum but still big enough to justify multiple visits. The collection has a few major works like the Caravaggio and the Vermeer, but also puts a lot of focus on Irish artists. If you can plan your visit around the times that "meeting on the Turret Stairs" is on display I would recommend it.

Amazing and astounding art gallery offering beautiful works of not only Irish painters but also foreign sush as Caravaggio and Picasso. The admission is free of charge, however you need to book a time slot via their website in advance as the place is super popular among the tourists. In this gallery you can practically the whole day enjoying the masterpieces from different time periods. The COVID-19 safety protocols are fully implemented, you are required to constantly wear a mask and maintain social distancing. The hand sanitizer stations are widely available in the gallery. Upon entry you will be required to present your EU Digital COVID Certificate. However, they also accept foreign vaccination certificates if you've fully vaccinated by the EU approved vaccine. For instance, I presented a Canadian issued certificate, and it was accepted for entry.

Very nice collections, in a very nice building. Not as big as other museums but they have a Vermeer... along with works by other masters including Rembrandt, Goya and many others, as well as moderns like Renoir or Monet. Worth spending at least a couple of hours.

It was my first time coming to an art museum and I actually enjoyed it. It was a bit small though but it was cool to see a bunch of art from over the years. There was even a section dedicated to young Irish artists which I thought was really cool and encouraging :)

Very impressed, free entry and lots to see. Particularly enjoyed seeing a Rembrandt and Caravaggio. Children (12,11,8) all enjoyed it too, especially the creative space with the crayons and paper! Well worth a visit if you’re in Dublin, excellent facilities and impressive collection

A rich collection of art covering abstract, landscapes, portraits, contemporary and sculptures. Noteworthy paintings in the collection are from Vermeer, Caravaggio, John Singer Sargent, Rembrandt, and Monet. The gallery is beautifully designed and is easy to navigate. The grand gallery is stunning. Entrance is free and this place is a heaven for art lovers.

Perfect for a day of art and culture. Some of the exhibits seem to be closed, but it still worth the trip. If you want to make a day of it, sure to visit the writer's museums just a few doors down and also the garden of remembrance right across the street.

Here you can enjoy an extensive collection of not only Irish art, but also works from abroad. Pieces are curated by historical periods with appreciation of the interactions and friendships between artists from different European countries instead of being divided by national schools. Although you won't get lost if you follow one direction, it's best to pick a gallery map from the reception (or see it online) to track your progress into the building. Members of staff were very nice and welcoming. It is a free experience and trully rewarding. Lockers available.

This is a wonderful place where you can relax your soul. You can come here with friends, a loved one, or family. All the artworks are beautiful. The gallery is decorated in red and blue tones, which complement the art pieces perfectly. It's a place you'd want to return to more than once.

Firstly, I loved the building. Very elegant and classy. Well atleast for me seeing I am South African. Initially went there for the Vermeer, but ended up exploring the whole place. We missed a beautiful exhibition but we still enjoyed the whole place. There is a whole section dedicated to students and contemporary art. Enjoy the place and remember to tip😉.

Great place for art lovers. You can find here masterpices of Monet, Renoir, Pissarro, Picasso. On the first floor is a cozy cafe and a gift shop. Opposit the central entry to the gallery is the Merrion Square park where you can find the Oscar Wilde sculpture. I walked to the gallery from the St Stephen's Green park about 10 min. Tickets are free of charge. Recommend visiting this gallery.

Art of artss .. it's just amazing ..i was supposed to spend 1 hour in here ..since i had other bookings . But i spended 2 hours or more in here .. you will just get mesmerized by the paintings . Some are soo realistic that you forget it's a painting . Irish culture is also shown through painting in here . You can spend a half day fully here if you don't have other appointments . Just make sure to get updates of the gallery since they organize many events and shows.

My first Carravaggio happened there. And it was brilliant! If you like Picasso he's there as well. And Rembrant is too. And many of genious Irish artists that i met there. Galery looks like a labyrinth, shaped in modern style, with guides and curators all over the place assisting and explaning everything you are looking for. You can easily spend 3 hours of enjoying of world class art and later relax in beautiful cafeteria on the ground floor.

Stunning gallery with a diverse collection spanning centuries of art and talent. It’s free to enter and one may choose to donate. All exhibits are taken care of and you’ll see famous works such as that of Caravaggio (The Taking of Christ), Goya, Picasso, Rembrandt and Vermeer. Situated close to other museums, this is a great place for an afternoon of culture and history. A must visit – whether you’re a local or a visitor from abroad.

Social distancing seems not to be controlled in this gallery at present. Crowds were observed gathered around many artworks, seemingly oblivious to the threat of Covid-19. Not advisable to visit as of August 2021. However, the collection is wonderful, well displayed, informative and the lighting is excellent from a conservation point of view. The collection is exceptionally well cared for and maintained. The gallery also has an excellent shop with a vast selection of art related goods on offer.

STUNNING pieces!!! The tapestries are so beautiful and i loved the section of women's art. Really amazing collection of work 10/10 recommend and admission is free!! :) my only complaint is that there's no photos permitted to be taken in the women's art section which was my favorite 😭 hopefully they change that bc i would've loved to have had the memories or been able to show others the art

The gallery is so lovely. So clean... Stuff on every floor to assist with anything (we got lost as it's so huge) Clean bathrooms if you need to use the washroom You can book free tickets online to visit the venue or get tickets at the entrance. A lot of Irish and Catholic history. Masks are required while indoors For more pictures check out my Instagram: @__sandy.m

Amazing place to visit. You'll be able to enjoy the art from a couple of hours to a whole day. Free entry by the way. It's a must see place. I am definitely recommending to visit it. It is a wonderful and thoughtfully curated museum. I enjoyed it very much. I felt like I learned a lot about the Irish experience through the art on display and the periods showcased. It is also across from a lovely park which is nice for a picnic, nap or stroll.

I've been there three times and I will keep visiting it. The building amazes me, it's massive, with the stairs, the different wards and rooms with colourful walls, it's a very pleasant experience, the admission is free so I consider a must go at least once if you visit Dublin, especially if you like paintings, but only to visit the building is a nice visit. The shop has really nice things too and I think the café has re open.

Went on a not so crowded Tuesday morning. Very interesting museum. Entrance is free for main areas, only special exhibits require a ticket. I especially appreciated the Irish painters wing. Not all artworks can be photographed, but most of the people did not care and just took pictures of everything.

Art is intrinsic to our human experience, it is to the human soul as medicine to the human body. Befriending art has transformed my life beyond the monotonicity of misery and despair. A painting can hold within it, the secrets to your existence and reveals to you the keys for your maladies. It’s not the artist that unveils themself in the painting, it’s the sitter that becomes part of the Painting and find in it the remedies to their soul. The gallery has been a source of inspiration and priceless education to many, since its opening in 1854. At times of crisis, it is more important that the doors to the Gallery should be wide open, let it be a refuge for the lost souls. I would like to remind you of George Bernard Shaw, how he spent hours wandering the rooms of the gallery calling it a place to which he owed “much of the only real education I ever got as a boy in Eire” Please negotiate with the government and health officials, how to operate safely, while keeping your doors open. My dear friend.

Very modern and very large. You can leave your coat and backpack for free. A lot of space to enjoy the paintings. Many beautiful pieces of art, a large selection of different periods. I discovered many artists I didn't know, it was exhilarating! They have a beautiful Jerome Bosch, it was the first time I could see one in real life. I could watch it very closely, I fell in love with Bosch's work again! They also have beautiful, beautiful stained glasses. I was really lucky to come on a day there was a piano concert, it was unexpected and so delightful! And the entrance is free, thank you!
