The Chester Beatty is a collection of manuscripts and various objects from around the world. On 3 floors and a roof garden, the exhibition can be explored in a relaxed way with the audio guide in the app for 1-2 hours. A very fascinating collection and a lot of information is provided there about the creation of books, printing, art, early religious prints and diverse cultures and religions.. Those who take a little time can then also shop in the nice souvenir store, get a snack in the café and walk along the park. A great atmosphere and definitely worth a visit. Admission to the exhibition and the park are free of charge! Backpacks are not allowed in the exhibition, but there are lockers at the entrance.

mr. chester beatty is a collector and have donated lots of his collection to ireland. he established this library/exhibit to showcase his collection through the years of travel across the globe. it's free and worth the visit. before you explore, watch the short video about who he is and what his collection is all about. some are being showcased here (majority being about religion and on the oriental side), while others are donated to the national museum. you have leave your belongings in the lockers provided on the ground floor before coming up. there's a cafe and a gift shop too on the ground floor.

I brought my students on a visit to the main exhibition and the current ‘First Fragments’ exhibit. What a fabulous treasure trove. One man’s collection from around the world. It’s free but donations are always welcome. Allow two hours at least. And take a break out in the garden or on the roof terrace in order to appreciate the full extent of the library.

Wonderfully collection of art objects! Must see if you are in Dublin! By far one of the most interesting museums I have ever visited! (And not too huge that you would need to spend hours in)

beautiful and well organized small muzium comprises of almost all of religion artifact and manuscript. I was surprised to see the daoism of one my favorites mantra manuscript too. they also play certain mantra chanting music for each of the religion but too bad not the daoism one. the guards in second floor was very welcoming and accommodating but didn't see his name on it clearly. the roof garden was closed during my visits . the cafe at the ground floor was good but too quiet without music .

Lovely spot in the grounds of Dublin Castle. Could do with more signposting though. Free entrance. Lovely cafe with fabulous food. Gift shop with prints, books, jewellery, bits and bobs. Didn’t notice much Chester Beatty memorabilia though. Staff in the museum were really friendly. No car parking so not sure about disabled access. Toilets on the ground floor which are spacious and clean. Lift access to the upper floor. Various displays on each month so best to check the website.

Incredible experience! So much history! I really enjoy the video with the biography of Chester Beatty, it helps to understand the great mind and heart that this man had. I really recommend it, and if it is possible download the app to listen the description of every exhibition. Please if you take pictures only WITHOUT flash. All the staff very gently!! Congratulations to them. You have to go with time to enjoy the museum itself and the park outside the building. 😉👍👍

I came here to see a Chinese New Year exhibition. The location is cozy, comfortable, tidy, and well-kept. We had a great time when we were here. A handful of the employees we spoke with were incredibly friendly and accommodating. It is strongly advised to also visit the museum.

I really knew nothing about Chester Beatty or the library before this visit, but it was a hidden treasure. It's free to enter, so that's a plus, but there are a ton of amazing and rare collections in this place! You can spend as much time in the library as you want, and there's a cafeteria, if you're hungry. The staff is so gracious and helpful, and learning the story of Chester Beatty was definitely worth the visit.

A little gem of tranquility, this stop was recommended to us by a local cycle guide. The gardens are a perfect lunch spot and the food at the Silk Road was absolutely delicious! The museum and restaurant staff were all so friendly and the collection was surprisingly rich for the museum's unassuming size.

The exhibitions were lovely but note that the reading room is not open to the public. There are free lockers for backpacks as those are not allowed in the exhibition areas but they are not large enough to accommodate bigger packs.

Wow! The biggest collection of carefully collected manuscripts I've ever seen. Chester Beatty collected loads of stuff from over the world but loved that Irish ... So gave it to them for free. Only 10% of his collection is ever at display at a time. But it's free!

I happened to visit this museum by accident and I was surprised. This is not a big museum but impressive, lots of interesting stuff with details. The most important is that it's free. Don't forget to visit the gift shop- the goods there are special, unlike other museum shop.

A must visit in Dublin City. The Chester Beatty library is a looked over relic of the city - and better again, entry is free. Chester Beatty was one of the greatest collectors of the twentieth century, and his collection is incredible. The library, which is really a museum, houses sacred texts, illuminated manuscripts and miniature paintings from the great religions and systems of belief represented in the collections – Christianity, Islam and Buddhism with smaller displays on Confucianism, Daoism, Sikhism and Jainism. There is also a lovely small garden attached to the library.

Hidden Gem of Ireland. Best museum I have ever been too. Jesse was the best guy to talk to there and he is the security guy. He made me want to learn more about this guy. I was just wondering around the museum by myself. He was helping out a group. I heard his genuine love for his job. Made me join the group. I was amazed at the collection and it did not scratch the surface of what they had in his collection. I am impressed and happy I found this place. The surprising part was it was free. Yes free forever. Truly a hidden GEM

(Translated by Google) A very interesting collection, free lockers (same as access) and a very economical restaurant with different and rich dishes. 100% recommended. The gardens are fine and it has a terrace upstairs with good views of the castle. It is a cool place to go with children because it has areas to be entertained while you enjoy the exhibition. We had a short stay in Dublin and included a visit to the Chester Beatty Museum. It was great because we walked over to check out the Dublin Castle and its courtyard. We got to see some great sites and then made our way in to the museum which is free! We only spent time in the main room. It was fairly small, but had so much to look at! Seeing all the different origins and ages of books, the progression of covers and illustrations throughout time was fascinating. We spent 45 minutes in this one room. It was one of the highlights of our time in Dublin. I think many people overlook this place, but it is definately worth a stop in.

Fabulous array of extremely rare and special books covering many religions over the centuries. The work is beautifully displayed and i really liked the atmosphere created in the religious text area, Listening to the chants and prayers in the back ground, with each changing to suit the religion you are reading about. Handy lockers on the ground floor for your bags, coats, hats and scarfs and a lovely little gift shop and cafe on site. Lifts available for those with mobility issues and id always start from the top and work your way down. You can easily spend hours and hours discovering and learning about many different cultures through a multitude of manuscripts. Well worth a few hours especially on a cold wet winters day.

An incredible museum. So much interesting facts about the main religions and some decent artefacts too. Staff were very polite and the cafe also boasts some delicious dishes! A good depiction of Islam and very well preserved items. Well worth a visit when you’re in Dublin. It’s within the Dublin castle compound.

Insane collection that's FREE to visit! Apparently, the museum only shows a small percentage of what Beatty actually collected and the exhibit changes occasionally. When you first walk in, there is a free locker to put your things in and short movie to watch about him. Then the higher levels are the exhibits to check out! Totaly worth seeing!

The temporary exhibiton of Buddhist scriptures was nice and well presented. The stable exposition of books is a bit of a mashup of everything from all over the world, but if you manage the constant context switching it's still enriching to see. Great cafe downstairs.

Small but insightful museum to learn! I would call Chester Beatty a little hidden treasure. I was so touched to see Burmese treasures here in Ireland. They display full of love and respect for the other culture. I didn’t get any negative vibe from this place like I had in London or Glasgow. The staffs were super friendly and happy to assist every visitor. That’s why I love Dublin and Ireland 🤗

This is a really cool place! I was expecting a regular library with stacks of books everywhere but it's more like a museum, a lot more like a museum, and gives lots of history about different religious and cultural texts and books. The Asian history section was definitely my favourite!

This was a surprisingly cool and quality museum—there’s a section about the book which is full of beautifully illustrated volumes and stories from India, Japan, Iran, Europe and more. You can even see letters written in greek from ancient Egypt, one written by Achilles—holy cow. Intricate detail with a good amount of context and cohesive groupings that you could spend hours being intrigued by.

(Translated by Google) I love books and i love art. That means this museum is the ideal place for me. And it was actually a museum where I looked at and marveled at the exhibits for a relatively long time. The different cultural treasures that you see here are beautiful and the variety was absolutely great! Before art, all works were equal regardless of their culture or religion. A really beautiful museum.

(Translated by Google) Of course I knew in advance that admission to the museum was free. And of course I dropped this idea in the lobby and asked the worker behind the counter if I could pay for the tickets. "No, you can't," was the answer. One second of silence and then added with a smile: "Because admission is free". For me an extraordinary experience, the extent of the museum is such that you stay there without any problem for an hour and you can get lost among the showcases divided into geographical, historical or religious departments. And it's all free, respect and thanks!

What a fantastic collection! Free admission and if you're interested in Eastern religion, art, and language you will love this exhibit. Also contains a sizable collection of impressive Christian artifacts including some extremely old papyrus pages of biblical text translated in Ancient Egypt. An exceptional collection of Middle and Far East objects of religious art that we haven’t seen in any other museum in Europe, finely put together with an eloquent and highly interesting accompanying descriptions. We were stunned to see the oldest discovered manuscripts of St Paul’s Letters and other ancient Biblical texts dating back to C 3rd AD! For such a place to have a free admission is just a dream come true! An during the current Covid times it’s so quiet too- we’ve passed by 4 other persons during our 2h visit! There is also a very quiet roof terrace, with almost no noise coming in from the city- you almost feel like in a sanctuary. Would recommend to anybody having a free afternoon in the city centre!

This review has taken me way too long to write, but I have not gone a day without remembering my time at Chester Beatty Library. When my, then soon to be, fiance and i visited Dublin, we had no idea about this museum, but stumbling upon it made the trip! One of the main reasons this was such a memorable experience was due to one particular person, Jesse Beers! Jesse was not only knowledgeable of every detail in each exhibit he spoke about, but the PASSION he spoke about information with was mesmerizing. I never thought I would be in awe from what I learned there. THE FIRST BOOKS EVER MADE!!! I WAS GOING NUTS! Jesse even made it a point to keep coming back to us to take us to new exhibits, and tell us the little secrets behind the different artifacts. Jesse... I want to thank you for being who you are, for the time you spent with my fiance and I, and for making this visit to Dublin magical. I will be requesting another tour when I come back! Take care!

Fantastic story of an amazing individual and his fascinating collection of rare and ancient art and artifacts. The venue is also wonderful, hosted within the Dublin Castle complex, it's well laid out and organised. Only about 10% of the collection is on display at any one time, so return journies will be rewarded. There's a lot to see and absorb and one visit is not nearly enough.

One of my favourite museums in Dublin. And entry is completely free, although they do accept voluntary donations. When we visited, there was a interesting exhibition of Japanese woodblock prints from the Edo period. We also visited the roof garden, which affords interesting views of Dublin Castle and beyond. And best of all, the permanent exhibition on the major religions of the world. The museum closed before I got to see all of this, so I will definitely be returning soon. Finally, in the garden in front of the museum there is a monument to the Special Olympics which took place in Dublin in 2003. The names of every volunteer (30,000 people) are inscribed there in alphabetical order.

Excellent museum! I visited in November and hadn't planned on going there originally, but walked by at after the nearby Dublin Castle. Glad I stopped because the manuscripts interested me more than I expected. A tour guide named Jessie was finishing up a group and answered some questions for me and a couple others that weren't in the original group. He was so enthusiastic and hospitable with our questions.

(Translated by Google) Although I was almost in passing and at the last moment, I was pleasantly surprised by the great collection that treasures different cultures and religions. Very interesting. Admission is free, you simply ask for a voluntary collaboration of the amount you consider appropriate.
