Disgraceful reception service. I came in for an appointment at 8:00am being 8 months pregnant and was told at the door that they don't have my booking, only to find my name later on their list. I proceeded to the A&E reception and the reception desks were closed with no one to check patients in. Then a receptionist named Trish showed up (short red hair) and started calling some people by name to her desk to check them in. I'm 8 months pregnant, sitting right in front of her - she never called me over, completely ignored me and didn't check me in. She didn’t even ask how I was feeling. I was sitting in front of her the whole time. She was very rude and unwelcoming to everyone and looked like she hates her job. If she can't do her job properly she shouldn't be there at all. There is no acceptable reason why the hospital can’t see people at their appointment time. It’s typical, government-run inefficiency, with no accountability. I had been waiting to be triaged but nothing was said to me for 2 hours so I asked the reception if anyone is going to see me and they tried to blame me for not checking myself in! I explained that when I came in there was no one at reception and that Trish the receptionist was late and when she showed up she was calling people over by their names to her desk and never called me. As a result of her incompetence and rudeness I ended up waiting for my appointment for more than 3 hours and people with later time slots got in before me. I'd been waiting for almost 4 hours at this point and no one ever asked me if I'm ok or if I needed assistance being heavily pregnant. Absolute disgrace.

DISASTEROUS SERVICES I'm not surprised that the healthcare system is in a bad state, when they have a terrible approach to patients in the hospital. My procedure lasted 10 minutes and I waited for him on the spot for 5 hours. Paying for parking in front of the hospital is pure robbery. It is a shame that the hospital does not provide a parking space for patients. The whole thing is poorly organized and on account of the patient who is hungry and thirsty and waits for his procedure for long hours. INHUMANITY!

ABSOLUTE DISGRACE My experience doesn’t deserve a star My 82 year old Nanny with stage four cancer had an appointment which we waited four years for We were left waiting 5 hours in the cold waiting area with nothing not even a drink of water for this length of time . The receptionist was the rudest I have ever dealt with she didn’t even look at us even when we said good morning. All of the nurses were acting busy walking up and down looking at her nails doing absolutely nothing. All of the nurses and staff had ABSOLUTELY NO SENSE OF CARE what so ever !! I can’t express this enough! Had my poor Nan walked the length of the hospital with no help which lead my mam to breathing difficulties, when we asked the PORTER could she use a empty chair next to him he stood in front of the chair and said no and pointed to “bench” out side in the cold ! Do not go here go to BELFAST !!!

Went to E&E A&E department on a Saturday. Quick triage, paid the 100 € levy. Got seen by a doc who wore absolutely no PPE, touched my face, eyelids & utensils with his bare hands. In 2021, 1 year in a pandemic. Informed me I have an eye cyst and the treatment will be hot compresses. Nothing for my pain, nothing for my swelling. Followed advice, 12 hours later I can't open my eye and look like I have been beaten. Saw a different doctor, was prescribed steroids, stronger painkillers and guess what, I feel much better and can open my eye. My village raised grandmother would've recommended the same hot compresses treatment without going to Med school. The least I'd expect from a doc is to try and alleviate pain, not just send me away with a leaflet about eye cysts. You owe me 100€.

Dr told me to go immediately to eye and ear hospital, took taxi there to find appointment should have been made first, took taxi back home, later a approx 1.30 in afternoon a Dr phoned me and took my medical account regarding my eyes said he could see nothing wrong with the photo of my eye, but would be willing to give me appointment for next day or so, I informed the Dr I had called a private eye hospital, ended up I have a bad cornea infection in my eye, and was told if I didn't have it investigated with my other eye diseases there was a possibility of going blind. So glad I didn't take advice of there Dr. On phone who said he could see nothing wrong with it.

I was here today for eye check up. It was such a long waiting list and it took me 10 months to get an appointment here. But it turned out to be such an amazing experience. Everyone right from entrance, registration, nurses and doctors are so kind and caring. I was in clinic of Mr Jeremy OConnor. Dr David spend good 45 mints with me explaining every little bit, I feel like really been cared :). Everything is so nicely managed in the hospital. The wait was worth it.

The A & E department simply does not exist. Went there today for my ringing ears making live a living hell. To see a sign. "No walk in a and e. Call number...." i called the number. Fortunately I am already in their system. I was on phone transferred to a different department. Keep in mind we are standing outside in the cold and no protection from the freezing wind today. I was told to keep my phone open. To be called back in 1 a 2 hours for an appointment but most likely not for today. We asked if we could wait inside in the waiting room. Small and not much space. But at least a bit warm. And save from the elements. To be told off. We have waited more than 2 hours in the cold. I am cold to the bone. And no phone call what so ever. Went home by public transport. No parking spots nearby left. Etc. So whats an a and e exactly. A place where you ealk in without appointment. Here you need a doctors referral and an appointment at rhe a and e to bee seen. And no you won't be seen at the appointment made. Several people came out complaining waiting for hours. So whats the use of an appointment. Meanwhile my ears keep ringing. Was already told that it can take without a and e more than 3 years to be seen. Can you imagine what it does to someone's mental health suffering that much. No wonder suicide rates are going up.

***WORSE HOSPITAL EVER*** 0 stars I brought my 70 year old father into this hospital after a urgent referral from his doctor. His appointment was for 2.30pm. Firstly, we got to the door of the hospital and we were put in a queue outside the building on a freezing cold day because the cleaners were “cleaning” the windows at the main doors. What should of took 5 minutes, took 25 mins and was like a comedy act. I spoke to the security guard and advised him that my father is deaf in one ear and I’ll need to go in with him because he may not hear his name/ hear the doctor. He told me I couldn’t due to “covid” - but couldn’t give me any further details. After he waited in a corridor for an hour he initially got checked in and was told to go into the A&E area and wait until he was called. 7 hours later, he went in for his appointment. The nurses/doctors are miserable, extremely rude and abrupt. The place is freezing cold, with no heating. The toilet facilitates are a disgrace and the overall experience was hell. I really feel bad for any patients that have to visit here especially the elderly/vulnerable as they were left shivering in the A&E for hours on end. I realise there is waiting times with all hospitals and understand hospitals are busy but what’s the point in appointments? He left 8 hours after his “appointment”!!!!

Was told by my chemist that I urgently need to get my eye looked at as it was extremely swollen and they recommended this hospital. Upon calling the hospital I talked with 2.... Individuals.... The 1st one was blunt to the point of been offensive and the 2nd one refused flat out to give me an appointment and told me to go to the matter based on where I live. I'm now going to have to wait in a general hospital for 8 or more hours with an eye that feels and looks as if it's about to pop out of my head, because the EYE and ear hospital refused to see me.

No wonder the reviews are so low for this establishment. Staff lacking all compassion and patience, they are rude, disorganised and the place is poorly run. Waited on the phone for the "emergency" department for 16 hrs for a situation that worsened overnight to be finally told we were in a different catchment area*and to stop calling. This was even though we were referred to this hospital specifically and had spoken to several staff in the interim who kept telling us to call back. The nurse hung up rudely on me mid sentence when I (quite upset and concerned at this stage) explained the situation, after being on hold for yet another 15minutes. Disgraceful. *rang the HSE and apparently the hospital are completely wrong should have accepted us there is nothing stating that they shouldn't accept anyone in Dublin.

Absolutely horrible service & system. Follow up appointments are also treated in the A&E department so waiting times are through the roof. Had a review booked at 10AM and still wasn’t seen by 2PM. They don’t tell you anything, you have no clue if you’re next or how long it will be. Made a new appointment for in December but was already told by the receptionist “it’s probably going to be moved but we’ll send you a letter.” I have a serious eye condition and it’s such a helpless feeling if no one takes you seriously. I’m going back to my GP to get a referral to another eye clinic, they’ve lost their marbles here.

I was referred to A&E a few days ago where I waited four hours past my appointment time. I am now here again for a follow up appointment and I’ve been waiting another four hours. Definitely be prepared to wait hours on end if you attend the A&E department. It’s totally unacceptable to have people wait this long when they’ve been given an allocated time slot. Shame on Royal Victoria Eye and Ear Hospital for running such a poorly operated A&E department.

Was in recently for a tonsillectomy. I was extremely nervous about the surgery however I had such a brilliant experience here. The nurses were truly lovely, I can't thank them enough for their kindness and care. All the staff in general were fantastic from the moment I walked in. If like me you are nervously awaiting a procedure here, I can assure you, you will be well looked after by all. I am now 13 days post op and have recovered really well.

Truly awful experience in A & E today . 6hr+ wait for a 10min eye dilation procedure. 6 hr round trip travelling time. No food or drink. Vast majority of patients seen and sent home before me. I appreciate people are seen on priority basis but 95% could not have had worse complaint than mine (bleeding behind eye). No communication whatsoever from anyone about waiting times. Very casual attitude with seemingly no appreciation of peoples' waiting time. Would never, ever visit this A & E again. Worst I've ever seen. Didn't want to give even one star but unable to post review with no stars

Terrible and irresponsible service. Be aware that due to COVID, you need an appointment otherwise they won’t see you. Luckily I decided to call before going there. It has been a month that I have a cyst on my left eye and my vision is blurry. After seeing an oncall GP, I was advised to go to their A&E but even with the GP’s letter they only asked me to send pictures of my eye via email and a member of the staff called me. The person was not friendly at all and couldn’t care less about my problem. He only recommend me to do hot compresses even I telling him that I was already doing this and it was not improving and explained that I was very worried because I had Lasik surgery some years ago. Long story short, after seeing another GP, I had to take an oral antibiotic and use a topic antibiotic too and, due to the delay of addressing this issue I may have developed hyperopia.

My 16 month old had an appointment for 4pm. We got there at 3.45pm. It was extremely busy and there was about 8 people ahead of us. We saw the nurse at 4.30pm who was so lovely and friendly. We saw the doctor at 5pm who was very friendly and explained everything about how to use the medication and drops for my son's eye. They are extremely busy but still very helpful

I recently visited here with my mother and we were left standing out in the rain while the receptionist was standing inside the door and wouldn't let us in with 5 mins to opening time. What a great way to treat an 87 year old woman.

Oh my god. The service in the hospital is second to none. However the girl on the phone was ruthless and needs to be reminded as soon as possible that people are not always getting good news. Called to check if my very nervous aunt who had to go in alone (due to circumstances and absolutely no one’s fault)and get a biopsy taken from in her mouth . She told me she was very busy and hung up on me. When I rang back I got a nice guy who put me straight through to another nice guy who was extremely helpful. I know the job can be a frustrating one but a little more compassion when working for a hospital perhaps.

My review is for those two young receptionist women and a man that answered the phone on Wednesday 8th June 2022 around 8:00 and 8:15 am. I just hope that someone treats you as you have treated me today. To the management: Why do you have bad people with bad intentions and bad manners as customer service? Lots of lovely people looking for jobs and those two women wasting that space. To all people reading comments: I went to Fairview Medical Optics instead for my A&E, lovely people, they cared about me and were very professionals.

Absolutely outstanding staff from front door, admissions, porters, kitchen staff and clinical staff. Its evident that staff strive for a very high standard of care. This is delivered through exceptional team work which is patient focused with compassion and care. It is without doubt that the environment in which staff work is challenging but the care they deliver is not only fundamentally quality focused it is without doubt delivered to a very high standard of care. Our Journey from admissions to surgery to discharge was superbly and expertly dealt with in a friendly yet professional manner with wonderful reassurance throughout.

Seriously its worst Eye Hospital where patients must wait many hours or half day. Don’t really understand their emergency system which takes from months to years to get an appointment. If you are in serious issue, then it’s better to go to your home country to get better medical treatment quickly.

Arrived today with a foreign object stuck in my eye was told I couldn't come into a&e because I didn't have an appointment. Iv no words for how ridiculous this experience was I wouldn't be in a&e if it wasn't an emergency. On a different note I have been here many years ago and It was a very good experience and great medical care.

Great staff, but waiting hours on A&E too long. Today I came in at 10:40 and left hospital around 9pm. I think patients should be informed when more or less will be seen by the doctor rather than sitting without food for 10 hours. I am giving 3 stars only for doctors and nurses, everything else should be done better on A&E.

The hospital ED needs a complete re haul and is entirely unsuitable for paediatric patients. The day I attended the wait time was eight hours with no updates from admin staff as to progress. The nurses were present but there wasn’t a doctor to be seen from 530 to 715.It must have been their tea time. A young distressed young girl was left waiting three hours in the ED during this lull of limited medical cover. The hospital management need to sit down in the ED and process map their services and make the whole unit more patient friendly , paediatric appropriate and introduce transparent wait times Surely this service is crying out for advanced nurse practitioners or physician associates to speed up the patient journey A little common sense and less complacency is required.

Absolute joke of a service. An A&E department that requires an appointment. My sister was given an appointment for 10 to 3. We drove from the Midlands arrived a few minutes early and were adamantly told she could not be seen till her appointment time. 3 hours past her appointment time and she still has not been seen. Why give appointment times if you are not gonna stick to it.

I appreciate restrictions in pace are there to protect staff but the security guard in the A &E department could show some empathy. He was berating one elderly upset gentleman arguing about him having to make an appointment- rather than help him he shout and dismissed him. I understand he is security but he need to know how to handle people with compassion. It left for an unpleasant experience

2-hours trying to get through to the covid number to book an appointment to A&E keep getting disconnected so I called the reception the woman on the phone wouldn't even let me speak to her for help she just kept directing me to the A&E department which I keep getting disconnected the woman wouldn't let me explain i called the reception about five or six times trying to explain she wouldn't let me speak.. 40 calls to the 1800 number I finally got through to the A&E 2 hours later I got a call back at 6 pm from the doctor he told me to come back in the morning to see me. I told him I would make it in this evening so he told me to come in I was only waiting for 1 hour it wasn't too bad but people in there were telling me they were waiting over 5 hours I was just lucky that people happen to walk out ... 5 star's to the doctors and nurses they were amazing ... any chance of sending the woman who answers the phone on course on how to deal with people over the phone ... and it only took 36 hours for the 100 bill to get sent out .july 2020

This hospital is a disgrace. Bringing people in for a day ward at 11:00 and leave them sitting waiting for nearly five hours for a precedure that can take 25mins is a waste of my day and the hospitals nursing staff. I had the same procedure done privatly seven yrs ago and i was in and out in a half an hour. But now i have to fast.

The worst and rudest service I've ever dealt with. Got very little information after my procedure. When I called back for results the lady on the switchboard dealing with calls told me she was busy and hung up the phone on me. Still haven't been able to get my results. Can't believe this place can actually run like this. Also got told loads of different information off different doctors and nurses that was completely different from the last. Wish I never went here!

Terrible service. Was waiting for the whole day with an ear ache. They never called me and my number was pushed back to the end of the queue. When went to reception asking why my number was 23 and it became 70 was told in reception that it's not by business and they are not anwerring these questions. When asked for a painkillers as couldn't sit from the pain any longer ( was waiting for 5 hours ) the nurse said we don't give any of the medication and any of the painkillers. The first you need to see the doctor. Then she told me because your issue is not an eye all the doctors who are specialised in eara are gone home and you can come back tomorrow.

Keep away from it. I had an eye emergency and I went to A&E but I was told to call a number to book an appointment. In pain I called the number, I followed the procedure I was required, I was told a nurse will get in touch for the Triage shortly. After 3 hours I called the call center again and I was told again a nurse will call me as soon as possible. It has passed a week and nobody call me. Shameful.

I was referred by my GP for an ear infection - at the appointment the doctor I saw (who was lovely!) told me I could come back should the treatment not work. When I did come back, I had to pay a fee for the follow up, despite being told otherwise at the original appointment. I never received my money back, or even confirmation that my case was being seen to and processed. The only replies I ever got around my case were that they would get back to me soon, for months, until I gave up. And the problem was never fully fixed!

I called the emergency department right when it opened at 8am due to severe pain in my throat which had me unable to properly eat and drink (which is extra problematic as I am currently breastfeeding my baby). I basically begged for an appointment and was asked to send my GPs referral letter. Then a doctor would call me for a phone consultation and decide whether I need to be seen. Already sounded like a slow painful process for an emergency department, but I emailed them my referral letter anyway right after hanging up and was optimistic that I'd be called back shortly. After not hearing back from them by 10:30am and being desperate and worried about the severity of the pain I was experiencing (I have an underlying heart problem as well), I decided to go to the public A&E at the Mater hospital and try my luck there. It was only at 1pm when the doctor of this specialised hospital called me and at that point I was already seen and being treated by a doctor and nurse at the Mater who took my concern seriously. I thought the point of calling a small, specialist hospital was to have reduced wait time and better care than going public, but turns out that's not the case with Royal Victoria. Luckily, the other hospital helped me quickly and met me with lots of kindness despite being very busy and understaffed. So if you're looking for urgent care, this is not the place for you and you're probably better off in a public A&E.

Just spent 4 days in this hospital & from the minute I went through the door I felt welcome, looked after & like my treatment mattered to everybody who had contact with me! Right from the doorman, admin, catering, nurses through to the doctors. I cannot fault a single person. The food was incredible. I have stayed in hospital many times & often wondered how they would expect people to get/stay well on the food provided. Not so here! If I could leave 10 stars I would! Amazing.

Every single one of all staff members from the registration team, nurses, doctors to the catering team whom I met was so kind. They always called my name before they say anything - Strangely, it made a difference and allowed me to feel that I am cared and I do matter especially when I feel physically fragile with dizziness after coming back from an operation with general anaesthesia. Thank you, Clodagh, Owen, Gipsey, Denise, Mr. Hone and the nurses on night shift who lent an essential assistance to relieve severe dizziness on that night. Kindness of the staff made a significantly positive difference while I was going through the operation. Thank you, everyone! ❤️

Terrible place. My father is a diabetic and he goes to the eye and ear hospital every 3mths to get drops into his eyes. Each time before his appointment he gets the letter sent out and on the letter it says that he needs the HAB1C test results for the appointment. Now each time my father has to go to his GP to be referred to a hospital for the HAB1C blood test result which costs my dad €60 each time as his GP doesn’t do blood tests. GP’s don’t organise blood tests letters for nothing. They have to be paid. This is costing my dad €60 every 3mths which is ridiculous and my dad is an old age pensioner. As the eye and ear is a hospital, wouldn’t you think they would provide this blood test themselves for their own patients ? I know the eye and ear hospital do blood tests on their in-patients so why can they not do blood tests on their out-patients aswell ? Another thing if patients want to cancel or reschedule their appointment there is a number on the letter to ring but when you ring, nobody answers the phone. My dad rang this hospital everyday for 1mth all at different times to reschedule his appointment but nobody would answer the phone so how can out patients cancel and reschedule appointments ? I’m sure the eye and ear hospital is getting a lot of patients not turning up on their appointments and that’s the reason why, there’s nobody to answer the phone to cancel or reschedule appointments. Another thing, on the letter it says patients will only be allowed into the hospital 5mins prior to their appointments so I have seen 80 and 90 year olds left outside in the rain and in the freezing cold. This is a very cruel way to treat their out patients as all the other hospitals in Ireland don’t carry on like this. And the security man on the door has no personality at all. He’s actually shouting at the patients in an abrupt manner. Patients attending this hospital actually hate attending this hospital for various reasons. Looks like the staff just couldn’t be bothered. This hospital needs to be reported. Definitely have no interest in their jobs.

Always a good experience. Yes, waiting times are sometimes long but it is always very busy. Doctors and nurses are very nice and professional. And no issues with reception or any staff as mentioned in some reviews.

My 4 year old son Seán had his tonsils out last week under Dr. Lennon and his team. From walking into reception at 7am, every member of staff were so nice to me and my son. We went to the Children’s ward in room 16 and the nurses had his bed ready and were full of chat asking him about playschool and his teddy bear and there were toys there to play with there aswell. Teddy got to come to theatre and try the mask and all the team really had my son at ease before he took the anesthetic that he took it no problem. After surgery I was called to the recovery room and from that point on he was monitored very closely until that evening. We were moved into a room for the night and the next morning the breakfast lady was so nice to my son. There’s a more laid back feeling to this hospital maybe due to its small size.

If I could give 0 star I would have. Very disappointed with this hospital. Very rude staffs. My husband was referred to them by Specsavers, due to persistent eye pain accompanied with headaches. When he got there, the nurse did the basic checks and said he should wait for the doctor. The moment he entered into the doctor’s room, the expression on the doctor’s face wasn’t pleasant like he wasn’t ready to review my husband or to just get rid of him. He just asked my husband if he was referred by his GP, when my husband said no, he just sent him off saying he has to go back to his Gp for a referral letter before he would be looked at. My husband had to go to GP to get letter, Gp even emailed the hospital to see my husband as it was an emergency. There was no response from hospital, husband called the hospital in the morning asking when to come in, they just told him, they will call him back. Husband waited for hours no call back so we called them back as husband was in pain, just for them to tell us that, they didn’t call back because, according to the referral letter sent by his GP there hasn’t been any change in condition as presented the other day when seen by their doctor. BUT THEIR DOCTOR NEVER REVIEWED HIM , he just sent him away to get referral letter from his Gp, tried explaining to the nurse and going back and forth with her, she just transferred us to one doctor and what the doctor said was, they can’t see him again because he is presenting the same symptoms as previous as per letter from GP. So we had to go the emergency department in Mater hospital. VERY DISAPPOINTED WITH THIS HOSPITAL. They REFUSED TO TREAT MY SICK HUSBAND.

I received letter from GP that I need emergency treatment, when I camed to this hospital, first they told me do I have an appointment, I told then no, but I have emergency letter. They told me no, you need appointment, ok how to do that is buy calling their number, and wait at least half an hour to respond and when finally reach service their answer is take a proto of doctor letter and send on our email and we will contact you. I did all that and still no answer!!! Complete sistem is joke! And it's not even crowded! I would put even lower than 1 star if is possible!

Incredible kindness and competence shown to my elderly mum who attended for treatment to an urgent eye problem. Dr Cahills team, and all the staff she encountered, were excellent and I thank them sincerely . Given Covid and the recent IT cyber attack they were doing an incredible job under difficult circumstances.

Arrived here early for an appointment and was told by security at reception I wasn't able to be let in. I had to wait around for at least 20 minutes!. The nurse didn't stay by my side during the blood pressure test, then asked me if the band had squeezed my arm! She asked me twice about allergies! The Dr was very arrogant and I felt like he thought I was there because I enjoyed going there! I was there about my throat and I came out none the wiser. This place has really gone to hell!!!

The staff are so very nice and thorough and they do run very close to your scheduled appointment time. You can see they are trying their best and are very caring in their interactions. Of course it is not ideal to have to ring main switchboard about 10- 20 times to get through to other departments to make arrangements. This is a sign of their enormous capacity problems and these issues are not the fault of the Switchboard staff who face a really difficult day every day because they are in the firing line If you are angry about this or the waiting lists and you really want things to change, then direct your focus on the right people- lobby your local TD and the Minister of Health and put in constructive 'complaints' so this data may help the hospital get more resources. If you are tired or cannot be bothered to do this even once, then have a think about how it is everyday for frontline staff who continue on in sometimes just dreadful conditions.

Been admitted to the eye and ear and here a week now, I never have or will experience the care attendant and professionalism of this hospital anyway, they go above & beyond to help and care. Way different level, from porter to catering to nurses and doctors the level of care is way above completely outstanding thanks to all in room 27. It makes it so much easier ye guys are amazing on all levels

You have to make an appointment to be allowed in to A&E. It would seem someone at the hospital doesn't understand the meaning of the word Emergency. How bizarre is that? I've never experienced that with a hospital A&E in my life. Probably best to make an appointment in advance of your unforeseen emergency. Reception staff are rude.

I'm sure the care staff do a wonderful job but when it comes to enquiries in relation to finding out about a condition my late father had through the latter stages of his life forget it. I've been trying for nearly a year now, sending emails after emails to various people without the courtesy of an acknowledgement in the majority of cases. I have never in my time come across a more un-professional department representing customer/patient enquiries in all of my working life. John C

Terrible hospital. I live in Clondalkin. Got a problems with my eye. Almost 2 months gone and my problem is still here. I was three times to visit 3 times to visit hospital. Two times I had to wait for almost 8 or more hours. The last time they said eye is healed but its not as it was with problem and red. I didn't have pain this day but i knew i will on the next day if nothing will be done. So on the next two days my eye got worse again, so what i have to go back to emergency for another 8h waiting event? Going back to GP to ask me to refer to other hospital as withing this one i'm going to stay without eye.

Had appointment 120pm I was told my appointment was canceled by me it wasn’t but I was told they’ll fit me in. Waiting room was packed standing room only no social distancing in place. Was eventually called by a nurse at 2.30pm and told her my concerns she didn’t seem to interested. I think the service offered to diabetics at this eye clinic at eye and ear clinic is a disgrace for high risk patients to be crammed into a small room with no social distancing and left so long waiting is just not on. hSE get your acts together can’t blame COVID for everything it was just as bad before

Where do I start?other than the fact everyone else commented on what such a disaster this place is. My own experience is the same, couldn't even get a proper doctors note off them, had to go back twice because it looked like a child scribbled all over it. Second time they put the wrong dates in and scribbled over the date again and the doctor wouldn't change it for me so there's needs to be a full audit in that place and change of staff, and that's only half the story.

Horrible had an appointment to attend the hospital but I missed my appointment because I had to self isolate waiting for my coronavirus test results guy on the phone said I won't get an other appointment for 3 year then I get a letter in the post that said I've been discharged because I missed a second appointment which I never received a letter for so tried calling them about it half an hour no answer off the phone so making a nice big complete to the HSE and if I'm told to self isolate again im not if it's going to make me miss my appointment and not get a new one

Highly recommend the eye and ear hospital. Have been here for both and every doctor and nurse were very knowledgeable and very important, very caring. I really felt looked after plus the operation went very well. Got a covid test done too before my operation and it was super fast and just a little tickle. I had wonderful nurses ( Lilia, Mairead, Clarissa, Kate and the lady in the waking up room) and super doctors (Dr Horgan, Dr Mukthar and 2 more (Sean and a very nice lady doctor ). Thank you very much to the whole team in the eye hospital. After my operation and after waking up i got tea and toast and the man who served it was as well super nice and caring. You could really feel the team spirit there and they just really cared from their heart. Thanks so much :)

Where to begin?! The day before surgery last week I was given an appointment for the day before admission for a Vivid '19 swab test. The staff in charge were very safety conscious. And very careful thank goodness. I then had an appointment to see my surgeon in Outpatients in the hospital. Again the woman who was checking us in was ultra-safety concious. Very pleasantly made sure we were 2 metre distance from each other as we waited for her to register each in turn. Naturally, you'd think, everyone with masks on. It took about two hours to pass me from one office to another before I got to see the person/surgeon who was operating on me next day. All the nursing staff seemed masked, but up the ranks, masks were not worn. In one little waiting room, no windows, three of us seated, me elderly, one in a wheelchair, a painter was setting up a ladder, getting ready to paint the room. He wore no mask, no protective clothing. When a colleague arrived, and joined him, feeling very shaken, I went out to the corridor to look for a member of staff to ask for help. She reluctantly went to the doctor's procedure room. A doctor came out and handed a mask to the painter on the ladder. Without acknowledging us patients who stood in the doorway. No apologies, nothing. This was not a reassuring experience, the day before my surgery in the same place, the same professionals, Louise

Triage is awful, probably call them 15 times, trying to get an appointment with an ophthalmologist for the last 2 weeks, even with reference letter from my GP, and A&E is non existant "you can only get in with appointment..."

My daughter has been on the list for an eye test since Feb 2020. As it has been so long not hearing anything I rang my gp who referred us,, my gp said that the hospital sent a letter when they received referral in Feb 2020 to say waiting list is up to 15months ,,so I rang hospital to see what the story was to be told waiting list is actually 3-5 years I was shocked and horrified. Absolutley not acceptable. Also would talk to whoever answers the phone rotten attitude. This seems to be said in alot of your bad reviews maybe you should pay attention and find a new receptionist!!.

Referred by my GP last week arising from an outer ear infection which had spread to my face. Received a call from the ED doctor next morning with an appointment for 11. Called in after only 20 minutes waiting and received excellent clinical treatment delivered in a very professional but personable manner. Called back for follow up this morning and once again no wait and a comprehensive review from the team delivered in a friendly and professional way. Having attended the hospital many years ago, I was struck by the changes in the environment which was modern, bright and welcoming. Great to see venerable institutions like the Royal Victoria delivering clinical excellence in contemporary surroundings. Kudos to all involved.

I have to say that the doctors and nurses here are phenomenal. They got me sorted very quickly, with an acceptable waiting period in A&E. The receptionist was polite and helpful while I was there in person. The reason for my low score for this place is that they are demanding payment for attending there, despite having a GP referral letter which is supposed to excuse the charge. It's not my fault if they lost it. I have sent them copies of it via email. I cannot get through to the number listed on their letters, I just keep getting voicemail which is going unanswered.

Spend all day today outside A&E with my 82 year old dad. Traveled up from Wexford with a letter from my dad's doctor, my dad had a serious eye infection and had lost the sight in one eye already. We were told by the nurse manager on duty today that we had no right to come to the hospital without an appointment!! My dad is a patient of this hospital for the last 35yrs and has had on going eye problems It's now 6 1/2 hours later and he still has not been seen . Absolutely disgraceful treatment Of an old man. This is modern day Ireland Shocking !!!!

The nurses ,Doctors i met were brilliant The Lady Professor in E.n.T .was amazing .Made plenty of time to explain procedure taking place. I had another experience over many years how good the the Friday morning E.N.T clinic under the control of Prof.Tymon

The staff do an excellent job and my complaint is more the process in A&E. They call it an A&E but you can only attend with an appointment. Therefore they know the numbers attending the A&E ahead of time. So why in my case was i given an appointment for 10:30am, saw Triage nurse at 11:30am but after 3 hours and 45 minutes from arriving, I had to leave without actually seeing the Doctor due to personal commitments. To have 3 hours and 45mins of a delay from a 10:30am appointment suggests there is a serious scheduling issue in A&E. This was not an isolated instance, i had the same happen last week when i waited 3 hours and 30 minutes. I also witnessed multiple people complaining to the staff about long wait times. The staff in fairness do a great job in the circumstances and do call out delays of up to 4 hours. Admitting this to a patient and treating it as business as usual is just not acceptable.

I'm not given to leaving reviews but had an excellent experience at Royal Victoria Eye and Ear hospital today, from the staff in the audiology dept to those in the emergency dept I was treated very quickly and professionally....from the time I arrived until my tests and treatment was over was 2 hours, even offered cake in the waiting room of A & E and that's certainly a first, maybe it was because of the time of year but it was so nice....keep doing what you're doing everybody you do it so well. Thank you.
