Utterly insane racist sadist people running the place. Please stay away. We were a group of 15 people as part of a team outing went into the pub. The ambiance was nicely set. We all bought drinks and started finding places to sit in. While I was taking a drink and going in, I saw that one of my colleague was being blocked by an old man. I initially thought it was someone having some pub fun, but then in a short while it became serious. The old man was asking my colleague to leave, and repeatedly, pushing him slowly out. We went and asked them man and also sought help from the pub staff. The staff too came in and said that our colleague should go out (just him) coz he wouldn’t drink. We were a group of 15+, all others were drinking mostly more than one and yet they wanted one colleague to leave. We all left, at the end. I strongly feel that the behavior exhibited was for racial reasons and it was discriminatory for sure. The pub is a disgrace to the amazing Irish pub, kind hearted, fun, and welcoming people and the land of Ireland.

Nice place and great music. Better to drink here then move on. Don't finish your night here. They stopped serving at midnight on a Saturday (should be 12:30) then the staff hounded us to leave, with one telling us to "get out." Felt like we weren't wanted while a few regulars at the bar had full pints in front of them. This is the second time this has happened and will be the last for me. Won't be back which is a shame as I really like this pub

We were literally asked to leave. With no visible reason. The rude manager said that we had to consume and some of us were not drinking. After some pressure of the staff being close to us and frowning, we were asked if we were ready to leave by the manager. Very bad experience. None of us will step on that dark and noisy dungeon again.

Please do not support this bar with your business. Never written a review before, but my experience here was so that bad I had to. Within 30 seconds of me arriving, I was being harassed by the bartender to order a drink. That continued with an old man following me around the bar aggressively interrupting my conversations, deriding me for not ordering a drink. I was planning on ordering one later that night, but not right away. I’ve never had an experience like this before. Again, please don’t support this bar. All the recent reviews mention similar behavior.

I’ve been to Frank Ryan’s two times: both of the times we had excellent pizzas and pints, probably the best one you can get close to Smithfield square. It’s not the typical Neapolitan pizza, but very crunchy, tasty and with good toppings. The service cannot be rated more than 3 stars: the first time we went there one of manager was a bit arrogant with us, the second time everything went smooth. It’s true that they don’t give tap water, you have to buy mineral water if you want to drink. Regarding the atmosphere: I didn’t find the place “racist” as described in other reviews but I would suggest to reduce the volume of the music, a bit too loud.

Very cool bar also very dark. When you come in your eyes need adjustment time as it is set up to be very dim lit. Once you can see again it's great to explore the interior and the pizza was very delicious. They offer red and white based pizzas. I'd come again, it's a cool, quirky place. Staff is friendly and they have a little back terrace area.

Even if they turned the lights off completely and randomly kicked me I would give them 5 stars, just for the pizza. I liked the atmosphere - once my eyes got used to it - and the staff was nice, but really, if you're there and don't try the pizza you're missing out.

Hidden gem in Smithfield. Absolutely love this place, and so surprised on the pizza. High pizza rating 8.4/10 for the margherita. And the deal with the pint, you can’t go wrong.

A great pub. Amazing location. The pizza was OK, I've had better. It ended up getting cold quick as it was served on steel plates.they didn't give us a fork either when we first got them. The interior of the place is nice BUT FAR TOO DARK. someone who is hard of vision will have an accident in here one day. They need to just put a few dim lamps in the corner . It got quite annoying at time I'm not going to lie. I know they're going for atmosphere but at least light the place up a bit better.

Everything you could want in a local. Great pint of Guinness and atmosphere. Delicious wood fire pizza and a dog named Magoo.

When you enter the pub be aware that you will not see anything for the next couple of seconds, until your eyes got used to the darkness... Goatheads on the walls, we've seen a man with a parot on his shoulder, and a dog begging for piece of your pizza. Excellent beer, great wood oven pizza a classical must see - must be place!

Rude staff and closed early. They stopped serving 12pm, despite last orders being 12.30 everywhere else with half hour drink up time after. They never announced last orders, just passed round plastic cups around 12 and within minutes we were being hassled to leave with one lady shouting at us 'GET OUT', despite a group of probably their friends having full pints served to them at the bar. Felt really unwelcome and annoyed....if I had known closing time was that early I'd have gone elsewhere. Such a shame as the music is good, but a bit loud. decor is cool and the pints are good, but they really need to work on their customer service!

Quite possibly the best kept secret in Dublin. Miles Davis coming from the back, barely enough light to move, great craic and some of the best wood-fired pizza in the city. Don't have any plans later on, through, as it's an absolute vortex.

I am in here after work at least once a week for the delicious pizza and creamy Guinness pints. I could not recommend this pub enough for everyone. The vibe is brilliant and I love that they have a no tracksuit policy put in place, I feel that more pubs should incorporate this !!! 10/10 pizza, 10/10 staff, 10/10 pints

Such a fun, unassuming spot to have popped into on a whim for a decent pizza and a pint. The space is intentionally kept quite dark akin to an American dive bar so be forewarned on that.

I think it was very artistic. But it's hard to see their art due to dim lights. You would take a minute to settle down. Good vibe. Good for people who either want to stay quiet or yell while talking due to loud music. Don't lose anything or anyone, you might not find it. Loved the red lights that they maintained all over, the dog, and 🍕 was great. It was one kind of an experience, just go have fun and Pizza 🥰

Beautiful Pint, Very very very Nicely priced [€5:50 Tip-Top]. I shall look forward to dropping in again and trying their delicious Pizza. Don't expect to drop in for a quiet after work drink and relax with the paper, as you won't be able to read it [it's darker than a Nordic Winter] but I love it.

I like how dark it is inside. Personally I prefer darker settings. It is really authentic with the posters and decorations on the wall. It can get a bit too loud but other than that it is a pretty cool place.

It's a bit traditional with Irish stickers everywhere which I love by the way. I'll call Franks' a meetup spot rather than the final location. It's quite small, cozy and dark like real dark, I can't see past my seat area. I love their freshly made pizza, quite tasty.

Went in for a drink, and the atmosphere was great. It was different with the red lights on. I didn't get a chance to eat, but the food smelled good.

Amazing place and atmosphere. I think the most iconic thing there is the absolute unique playlist. No song is similar to the next one, just random hits. Loved it! Oh and the pizza is really tasty.

Excellent pizza and beer. A friendly doggo came over to say hello which I think is the pub dog. Music varied and loud (which is how it should be). It is proper dark inside!!

I do enjoy a visit to Frank Ryan’s, the pizza is absolutely delicious, one of the best in the city, overpriced obviously but I’ll still order it. I have a few gripes, the music is extremely loud down the back, I can only sit in the front if I want to have a chat while enjoying my overpriced pizza and pint. It’s also extremely dark but I kinda enjoy the darkness, it’s a quirky vibe. I also like the trinkets and pictures but can’t really see them due to the darkness. There is no hot water ever in the toilets which is annoying as my hands are sticky/greasy after eating pizza and wings. Also my boyfriend was refused one time as he was wearing tracksuit bottoms, we were sitting outside and if we were inside it’s too dark to notice. Enjoyable none the less

Traditional pub with a twist that it is probably the darkest pub I have ever been in. Coming from a bright outdoor setting meant I actually had to use my phone to see the seat but that added to the charm of the place. They also serve freshly made pizza which is very nice indeed.
