Emergency Department at Beaumont Hospital

Emergency care service

😠 The lowest point of my life, the rock bottom. You would get better care in a medical war tent during WW2 than E&A in today's Ireland. Even if the doctors and nurses are doing their best, the Beaumont Emergency & Accident is built and staffed to accommodate maybe 20 patients but it is overrun with 20... People often mention hours, wait, time, people, nurses, patient, emergency, hospital, staff, doctor,

The lowest point of my life, the rock bottom. You would get better care in a medical war tent during WW2 than E&A in today's Ireland. Even if the doctors and nurses are doing their best, the Beaumont Emergency & Accident is built and staffed to accommodate maybe 20 patients but it is overrun with 200. Nobody is safe in Ireland as there is no proper urgent care and wait time reaching up to 18 hours. The ER receptionist nurse was more concerned about the blood stain on the wooden counter than to get the patient seen. She was giving out about the counter getting dirty (bloody) while patient was trying to register his name and details with her choking in his own blood due to bleeding. After extreme internal and external bleeding, 1 hour wait for ambulance, ended up driving there and then waited another 40 mins by the ER door, heart rate going to dangerous levels due to blood loss but they don't take the patient in, as they have no space. When the patient was in after 40 mins he had to be brought to resuscitation room as it was too late. They don't even have trolleys left where your vitals can be monitored, elderly people, injured sick all getting primitive treatment on chairs. Collective suffering room, no privacy, no comfort for patients a big slap on the face after all the tax we pay for the Irish state. I have never seen such a neglected, primitive and desperate emergency service in my life. How Irish people put up with this inhumane conditions waiting 12 hours to be seen in ER and leaving 5 stars here and accusing "foreigners" for complaining? Unacceptable, no patient public nor private would wait more than 1-2 mins for an emergency service in my native country Turkey, 12h wait is a disgrace. In this day and age this hospital still operates on medieval methods, with paper checklists and phone calls between specialists, nothing is digitalised everything is paper based slow and inefficient. I equally felt so sorry for the hardworking nurses and the doctors inside the A&E they are equally abused by this broken system and obviously overworked and burned out. As long as people leave 5 stars here nothing would improve in this country. Poor health services is the number one reason why skilled expats/locals are leaving this country.

I have never seen a worse hospital in my life. How do people tolerate such an attitude, and this is for an ambulance, no one cares what's wrong with you, waiting to get to the doctor from 8 hours. Terrible service and they don't want to improve it!

The worse experience I have ever experienced was at this emergency department . I had to present my self twice to the emergency department and was taken in by ambulance the third time , the first time I had severe abdominal pain could not hold liquid or urinate for over 24 hours . They decided to attach a catheter bag to me , a surgeon then asked me why this was giving to me that it would cause infection which later on I was told I have got a slight uti from this catheter . They then told me they prescribed me an antibiotic which I then found out they did not which led the uti to spread to my kidneys . On the third time of arriving here it was with a fever . In the process of “treating me “ 3 different nurses and doctors explained I had a ruptured vein . Which I am not a doctor , I explained to the night time doctor what I was previously told he put me down and laughed saying my vein isn’t ruptured that it’s just water how can it hurt . These “doctors and nurses “ have a duty to have compassion and care to look after people who trust them with their own lives . I left this hospital crying with a Cannula in my arm after being made out to be a liar and being patronised by someone I came to for help who I did not put down . I relayed information to him from a previous doctor. Seeing how this A&E department treat people is degrading insulting and unprofessional. Do not trust these people with your illness .

Yes, waiting times can be long as they are extremely busy, but the staff is absolutely amazing. They take their time to explain things to you, despite being so busy. All super friendly. But don't expect a lot of privacy. There's just not enough room.

Rock bottom - no sense of urgency in what is supposed to be emergency care!! Rolling on the floor at the reception from excruciating pain due to gall stones, left to wait for an hour before taken in for even initial inspection. Being put to wait in agony for another hour before being given any sort of attention. Regularly waited 10+ hours, sometimes the next day, to be seen by a doctor. Being talked to by a hundred nurses, asking the same questions over and over. Offering no explanation about what's going on. Left to sleep overnight in a chair in the hallway on multiple occasions. On a light note, the hospital food and offered blanket were a beacon of light to what was otherwise a Kafkaesque drug-fueled delirium. If you are still around for the visit, the doctors are like demi-gods with their entourage of fresh students, giving you their precious 30 seconds of attention before heading off. Being dismissed on 3 visits before being sent to the CT, only to find that I wasn't making up the symptoms but indeed had gall stones. Scheduled a surgery appointment for next year (!!!), intending to leave me in agony, unable to work, sleep or function normally until then. Pleading, negotiating and convincing them to shortlist me for surgery ended in rescheduling the appointment to a 2-week wait for an unusually pleasant surgery appointment.

I have a brain injury and when I was brought to Beaumont Hospital in August of 2019 though the pandemic was rampant I was assured I wouldn't get the dreaded flu and did not thanks to the Care and passionate Dr's and nurses. Fantastic hospital and overall brilliant staff.

Wait is outrageous (12.5 hours starting 2.30pm on Saturday) but the staff were very good. I had Dr. Colin (I think that was his name) who was very attentive and impressed me a lot
