Urgent care center Emergency room Emergency care service

😠 Last night my friend couldn't breathe properly and had severe chest pain with cough. We went to emergency triage at 8pm. Even after noticing her condition the staff made us wait for 8hours. During that period, I enquired about the situation and started to lose my patience and then they replied that... They saved my life. Bloods done in Beaumont showed nothing. Referred me to a urologist for kidney stone investigation. Thankfully I didn't wait around. Next day cancer marker blood test CA125 and scan here dx early Stage 4 Ovarian Cancer. Admitted immediately.

RUDELY TREATED BY AN ASIAN MALE NURSE I entered the triage room 2 at around 21:20 on 24/05. An asian male nurse open the door for me, never introduced himself and asked for me to take off my jacket, I did. I described my symptoms to him, I had diarrhoea over 4 times and vomited over 10 times everything I put inside including water. Then he asked "did you have any fever?" I said I'm not sure because... However, before I could finish he aggressively interrupted me and said "THAT IS A VERY STRAIGHTFORWARD QUESTION, DID YOU HAVE OR NOT?" I answered "That is not a so straightforward question because when I arrived here some hours ago I did not have any fever however I'm felling cold right now and my jacket is really warm then maybe. Maybe you could verify that??" He did and said I had no fever. I asked him "Will you give me serum?" He answered "Why do you want serum if you're not vomiting right now?" I answered "I'm not vomiting right now because it is been over 3 hours that i don't drink water and over 20 I don't eat anything." He asked "when it was the last time you vomit?" I answered 3 hours ago before coming here." Then he said "you have to wait for the doctor before medication" i said "Ah ok I thought you were the doctor" and I probably made some negative exclamation because my belly was painful and I was a long time without eat. That time he got even more unwelcoming and asked "WHY ARE YOU BEING CRANKY?!" I answered "I'm not being cranky, I'm sick and for 20h without eat because I can't stop vomiting." Then he said "no, you're trying to be smarter than me" I said "I'm not trying to be smarter than nobody, I'm a pacient and I'm asking questions." He was talking louder I said to him "I already said ok, let's wait the doctor. Please i'm sick i don't wanna argue, not today. Respect that. You don't need to talk louder. I know you have a long day but you're not angry because of me." He relaxed a bit and some seconds later he asked if I wanted something for my belly pain. I was about to answer "I didn't take sooner because..." however before I could finish once again he interrupted me and said aggressively "VITOR, that is a very straightforward question do you want yes or no?" I insisted and finish what I was asking "I did not take sooner because I was worried that I have no food in my stomach for many hours." He got angrier and said "yes or no?" I insisted "I don't wanna argue, I'm just asking a question.don't you think could be bad since I haven't eaten for over 20h?" He said he would give me a small dose. In that moment he was typing and whispered to himself loud enough that I could hear "For god sake, God forgive me", I believe he was wishing my death since he asked God to forgive him. After that he put the pacient bracelet in my wrist, literally shaking of anger. In the end I accepted the medication and he gave me 2 paracetamols. I was afraid he would get angrier if I asked the name of the medication but I asked anyway, this time he answered politelty. And I went out of the triage room to wait for the doctor and that was it. I believe this guy hates his profession and that is a problem when you're taking care of sick people. I was for 20h without eat, I had vomited over 10 times I don't think I deserved to be called cranky or to be shouted at because I asked questions for a nurse. I don't know what could I have done to make he angry enough to not be able to keep his hands steady. All that story took around 5 minutes. What could I have done to make someone to shack of anger in only 5 minutes? I know those guys worked a lot and that sometimes they have to lead with rude people but I really don't think I deserved that treatment. And I really don't think I asked something that ofensive. I had no energy for another argue so I did not ask for his name or id number, however, he was the only asian male nurse working there at the time. If Mater Hospital has any interest in improving its treatment towards pacients gonna be easy to find out. After 3 hours of waiting I gave up because there were people waiting there for over 8h.

As per your Web page “Our dedicated expert team of Consultants, Nurses and support staff are focused on your needs from the moment you arrive.” Your admin staff and ED nurses were totally focused on their job and were a credit to their profession. Pity the same can’t be said of the “so called Consultant” that attended to my wife between 11am and 6.1pm today. You usually present yourself at an ED dept if you have serious problems and you expect the doctor to diagnose. what the problem might be.You don’t expect to leave (while possibly €600 poorer) without knowing what is wrong and the “Consultant “ asking you what would you like me to do. He seemed totally out of his depth, not listening to the patient, would have been cheaper to go to one of the “public ED hospitals” where you would eventually seen to properly.

Showed up with a clearly dislocated finger. Was told it would be hours before I would even get to see a nurse and I would be better off going to a minor injuries clinic the next day. First time ever effectively turned away from an ER. Shambles.

Turned away and not even checked after a road traffic accident with concussion and whiplash. Apparently no capacity, advised to go the public A&E. A customer of Mater Private for years. Why bother paying for VHI etc if this is the treatment you get?

Human rights and dignity end when you get to Emergency. This is the EU's official hell on earth and people suffer tens of hours in pain while waiting for a doctor. And the number of doctors is too small for such a flow of people. Electric cars, human trip to Mars, but people in pain don't see a doctors for ten hours. Doctors/staff service 10/10 Mater Private Emergency procedure 1/10 A pathetic system.

Was waiting from 4am in the morning in the mater public hospital and was told I wouldn't see a doctor for 8-10 hours. So when the Mater private opened at 9.00am I hobbled in there. Within 10 minutes I was seen by a consultant, had my bloods taken and an ecg. I was discharaged within an hour and a half and had a CT scan done and a drip for rehydration in that time. Excellent service. Was fully covered under laya company care policy.

Have to make appointment to be seen in a and e even with GP letter. How your meant to know in advance your going to have an emergency is beyond me. Shocking to be denied care when Dr has said you need it and told to come back in 24 hours and just hope you don't die in the meantime!

This is clearly not an urgent care centre as mentioned.Patients requiring emergency care ends up waiting several hours for consultation and they don't worry about the appointment time provided or the urgent care required!!!!

How come that they don't propose any scanner or blood test although I have a GP letter and then send you to the public hospital while you pay for a private insurance!! What a shame

Please update your website if you can no longer treat emergency head wounds. I was referred back to the public hospital as I was told I would have been waiting 1 year+ to see a neurologist following scans as they no longer had the facility to treat head injuries

Unbelievable conditions, hours awaiting to see a doctor. The health care system in Ireland is a shame. Rude, slow and incompetent personal working in hospitals.

Go to the emergency department, pay 100€ to see a nurse to ask you 2 questions and be told to wait at least 12 hours to see a doctor.

During that period, I enquired about the situation and started to lose my patience and then they replied that we check patients on critical basis. Clearly it means that they don't consider a patient with severe chest pain and breathing problem as critical. The worst part is even after waiting till 4am there, they asked us to wait more. And because the situation of my friend got really worse we had to head back home. I genuinely feel they don't care about their patients at all. Never been this disappointed by any hospital.

After I read the reviews I was a bit scared before visiting private ED here and obviously public ED wasn't an option due to other opinions and my personal assumptions (not everybody has a private insurance, the most emergency cases most probably comes to public ED because sometimes the patient can't confirm the insurance info and basically ask about a private ED, so waiting tome should be definitely longer, etc) so I was sure it's gonna be much more people (including urgent ones) in public department. So, I spent 5,5 hours in Mater priv ED with GP letter. It was a great experience. I've got a blood test, CACT scan, some other small tests and consultation. They were moving me somewhere all the time, so it wasn't boring and I didn't feel these hours. Nice comfortable chairs, very nice nurses (especially mine, a very carrying guy with a good sense of humour), kind doctors. I had a delicious lunch after all the procedures while I was waiting for results. I was surprised, but it wasn't cold there, even though it ~0°C outside. I visited Beacon hospital in May and it was freezing in there. It was a problem with my insurance coverage (they wasn't able check it in advance with my company, but I'm sure it's an issue from the insurance company side, hope it will be solved soon and they will cover everything). I'm rarely satisfied with healthcare services (being a medical worker in the past I always see all the gaps and mistakes), but in this case I'm absolutely sure about 5 stars.
