Not recommended. Pricey, and there are better things to visit. Also, recently they "evicted" a sweet old cat that was living in a cardboard box next to the museum. Apparently, it is not acceptable to have a cat box near when the tourist come. How rude and snobbish decision of the director Ms. Brautovic. Avoid.

Impermissible behaviour of the staff. I was visiting the museum today and at the 2 floor a woman custodian – for her own crazy reasons – choosed only me to watch and follow, absolutely don't paing attention for other visitors. She also made me stupid notices about position of the mask, whereas some other visitors took off their masks at all – but she didn't care about that. You know, you pay a high price for the ticket and than crazy woman staff sticks to you and spoils your visit. So I think, this museum deserve to receive the worst assessment grade in here.

This place is run by sociopaths who only care about money. A friendly senior street cat lives nearby, and every year when the tourist season approaches, they remove her shelter because they think it "ruins the look of the place" for the visitors.

They hate animals, don't go! They kicked out 18 years old cat from there, "because it doesn't look good". If you are animal lover, don't support places like that!

Museum that evicts a cat should be ashamed, and maybe fire the manager that ordered this backward decision, instead of making this the selling point. I wonder what the japanese tourists think when they hear this about their beloved feline species.

I was there few years ago. Was not thrilled then, but niw I am upset. They throw away feral cat house placed outsixe the Museum and designed beautifuly by one citizen to match Knezevi Dvori walls. Act of hatered toward cats made me to decide never to visit this place again.

Very disappointed by the cruel treatment of an old cat which has lived there like forever and both local people and tourists loved her. She even got a house which in architectural sense perfectly fitted the museum style and it just got removed. 18 year old cat lived there in her own little house designed specialy for her, and they took her away that house, because it's not by ''their rules''. If you love animals don't go there. Update, April 5/2022. Dubrovnik Museums reported many reviews for spam, and that reviews were written in Croatian language. Write on English please and don't spam, they deleted over 2000 negative reviews. Also they turned off comments and review section on their Facebook page. Animal haters!

They evicted 18 yearold cat that lived there and was a good ghost of the museum. She even had a unique shelter made by a local artist that fits in with the building, but the management despite so many pleadings still kicked her out. Heartless!

Sweet old cat Anastazija could have been the one who welcomes visitors to the museum, a living story about historical importance of cats in medieval cities and on sailing ships. Instead, the management decided to evict her from the museum. If old Ragusa had its management filled with such cronies and brown nosers instead of competent people, I doubt any museum would stand here at all. So, dear guests, if you think alike, please "vote with your wallet", and until old cat Anastazija is returned to her home, better spend your money somewhere else.

The visit was disappointing, to say the very least. Prior to coming to Dubrovnik we visited Venice and its magnificent Palazzo Ducale. We were not expecting the same, obviously, but apart from the architecture of the Rector's Palace itself, which is admittedly charming, we were left with a feeling of being ripped off after seeing the museum and its exhibits, which are predominantly underwhelming. You would have to visit with a guide or be equipped with a good guidebook to get any useful context, since the labels are scarce and don't really tell a story of the building and Dubrovnik in a way easily comprehensible to a non-local. All in all, if you are just looking for a few nice selfies, avoid paying the ticket price, it's not worth it. If you are a history buff, I'd still say it's not worth it. Just take a look through the gates into the inner courtyard, honestly. The outside porch is by far the most interesting part of the museum anyways, with the local cats sleeping and stretching on the stone benches. A local guide informed us the museum establishment has been trying to get rid of them recently, which is another reason for the low grade. Imagine chasing away the most interesting and vital part of your display. Sad. All in all, would not recommend, especially if you are expecting anything like the palace in Venice, my wife and I will most definitely not be coming back. But we will most definitely be stopping by to pet the cats!

I just read the story about horrible and inhumane treatment of calico cat Anastasia. She is a senior cat who found a home near this museum and they are trying to evict her. What kind of cruel “human” does that? She is too old to re-home and it’s very stressful for her. I am tempted to come and take her. I will provide a good home for her. Shame on the director of this institution and everyone else involved. Cats are lovely animals and she deserves to be treated with kindness and compassion. I will tell all my friends to avoid Museum of Dubrovnik until this situation is rectified!

Don’t trust these reviews by cat “lovers” who have never been to the museum. There are many stray cats in Dubrovnik. Anastasia was still there yesterday. The museum is right about the shelter. These cat lovers could adopt her if really worried. It is four stars but I give an extra one to compensate the ridiculous one star reviews.

It's a nice place. Even better if you like game of thrones. They have a nice and original collection of objects to check out, but it's missing some explanation to really make it interesting. But it's a bit expansive.

There are some gorgeous historical relics here, unfortunately the painting are mostly degraded as they are not protected from heat or light or the salty air of the coast. Worth a visit if you have a Dubrovnik Card but not just on the entry fee.

A very nice museum with lots of interesting history and culture. You will enjoy a great time between its walls, especially if you have a city pass. Small minuses: - Some indicators with the order or the road will be nice - The heat inside

This building is very centrally located in old Town. You will definitely come across it while walking around. It's very close to Stradun. The facade is very beautiful and picture worthy. It's a small place which is covered in Dubrovnik card. I loved the locking mechanism in the trucks that were displayed. It's very unique

My top choice palace/museum in Dubrovnik. Today the Gothic- Renaissance Palace had been turned into the Cultural History Museum with artfully restored rooms, portraits, coats of arms and coins. Beautiful interior with finely carved capitals on the exterior columns and the ornate staircase in the atrium.

A palace in the old city of Dubrovnik that used to be the seat of the Rector of the republic. It served also as an armoury and a prison. There is an entrance fee but if you buy the daily Dubrovnik pass this monument is included. Built initially in a Gothic style has also other renaissance elements and from time to time it was partially renovated. During our visit there was also an exhibition near by of paintings and photos of those who fought and died in the war for the city’s freedom 30 years ago. A must see attraction in Dubrovnik.

Beautiful palace in the heart of Dubrovnik old town, which is included in the Dubrovnik pass. Definitely one of the locations you won't want to miss as it's full with beautiful and interesting historical objects and paintings. The architectural aspects of the building are incredibly interesting too, so there's something for everyone to see. One bit I feel gets missed by a lot of people is the dungeon/prison section, which I would recommend trying, even just for a minute. The sense of foreboding I got from just standing there was very intense, definitely not a place you'd want to be locked up!

It’s worth a visit especially with the Dubrovnik Pass. Striking building especially at night. Very hot and humid like rest of the town right now, but they have a bathroom, several stories of art and furniture and striking display of photos of the Homeland War in Dubrovnik. Arts events here at night too.

Lovely exterior - a rare original - with an equally impressive central courtyard. Many historical items - like two green men (from the clock tower, which struck the bell on the hour) and even the "octopus". Plenty of paintings and furniture to admire. A (wine cellar?) space is used to display pictures taken during the Homeland war, showing Debrovnik in flames. Thrpuhhput the palace are nifty augmented reality displays: scan the qr code to download the app. I admired the bottle-bottom windows that played with the sunlight. Free admission with the Dubrovnik Pass.

A nice museum and amazing building in the centre of the old town of Dubrovnik. We gained entry through the Dubrovnik Pass and had a nice walk around the palace, looking at the artifacts. It's not the most exciting place in the world, but if you're a fan of history, it's worth the visit!

Stunning architecture. A must-visit in Dubrovnik if you're interested in architecture. The permanent exhibition, on the other hand, lacks focus.

The Rector's Palace in Dubrovnik's Old Town is a place of awe and wonder. Walking through its halls, I was transported back in time, surrounded by medieval furniture and echoes of the past. The rich history of the Old Town is palpable in every corner. As a 'Game of Thrones' fan, I noticed the striking similarities between the series' locations and the palace's interiors – it felt like stepping onto the set of the show. With the Dubrovnik Pass, entry is free, but it's worth noting that this only applies to your first visit. Any subsequent visits are paid. This didn't dampen my experience, though. Exploring the Rector's Palace was a highlight of my trip, a perfect ten out of ten. The blend of history, art, and familiar scenes from a favorite series made it unforgettable.

This storied building and its historical collections are well worth visiting for the €15 entry. The array of 18th-century sedan chairs are especially impressive. But, with the museum being so important to Dubrovnik's cultural heritage and with so many visitors, the collections should be curated with more care. Many of the paintings are in dire need of restoration. Many pieces on display have had little research into provenance. Like so much of Dubrovnik, the price of admission exceeds the quality of what you get.

If u ever visit the old town of Dubrovnik this place it's a must Very organized with a lot of cool stuff and detailed information about everything that's exposed here.

In the building, which was in the centre of administrative life, you will noble families riches and artworks collected throuth the centuries. It is a nicely curated exhibition. i would just appreciate that room lightning (which are all impressive chandeliers) is not shown as reflections on paintings. Also, some paintings are placed really high above doorways and can not be experienced in their full beauty.

Visited here using the Dubrovnik Pass (300 KN for 3 day pass) Excellent place to visit with many very interesting exhibits including the dungeon and many art works. Also lots of interesting artefacts and accounts of the history of Dubrovnik, in particular the photography exhibition of the 1990’s war period. The building itself is also stunning, beautiful ceilings and architecture with lovely views of the bustling city outside.

First of all, I can only have words of praise for young employees of museum who take care of cats. As for management and whole museum institution, you showed your incompetence towards brilliant idea, which would make a lovely attraction. Your puny excuses are ridiculous, so don't even bother to make any public statements regarding Anastasia and citizens of Dubrovnik who want to make a nice gesture towards animals. I strongly advise my guests to avoid your institution, and I encourage them to spread the story of Anastasia abroad.

  • 4/5 Robert C. 1 year ago on Google
Rector? Who's the rector? In Croatian the building is called the Prince's Palace which is far more appropriate, in my opinion. But, nevermind that. Its and impressive looking building, but the price of admission being around $30 US, i decided that its not that impressive, and figured that I can spend my hard earned dollars on beer(s) instead. Still, nice to look at from the outside.

Nice museum in an old Dubrovnik palace. Plenty to see about the history of the city and how it worked centuries ago, laws, politics, prison cells etc. Upstairs there are objects and paintings from the period. Plus (in Sept 2022) an exhibition of excellent photos from the Serbian bombing in 1991, very sad and evocative. Good labelling in English, and there's a free app too. Make sure you get a Dubrovnik Pass (this site is included) or else you'll be paying over the odds on your ticket.

On a hot day, this is the place to be. It has an open space and some great architecture. Well worth the money but don't forget to take a look at the Dubrovnik discount card to reduce the cost.

Is a very nice and interesting place, here you can see from how it was the dungeon even what the rector's room was like. Sometimes there are some concerts inside in which the Dubrovnik orchestra performs. !¡ If you want to visit more museum and do the city walls I highly recommend you to get the Dubrovnik card ;) Fun fact: The esplanade is very instagramable.

A must-see for tourists in Dubrovnik! The palace reflects the incredible history of the old town as it includes a gallery of pictures from the 1991 invasion, rooms of amazing artwork, a 'dragon' prison cellar and much more. I would recommend purchasing the Dubrovnik city pass, especially if you plan on going on the city walls and in other museums etc.

A very splendid palace combining Gothic, Renaissance and Baroque elements, that served as armory, watch house, prison and state administration. It’s been a museum since 1872, with period furniture and society portraits of prominent families from centuries ago.
