House was absolutely gorgeous. Didn’t give all five stars because the hostess, Beth, hasn’t really developed her hospitality skills just yet. (A little too passive aggressive for us.) Also, she charges for anything extra. At that price level, we should be able to get ice for free. The house and neighborhood was very charming, as was her father John.

We had a mixed experience and won’t return. We have stayed in many bed and breakfasts and would return to all but a couple. This is intended to be a thorough review for other travelers. The best thing about this bed and breakfast was the location. It was close to everything but in a quiet residential neighborhood with great architecture. The house decor is beautiful. Beth’s dad John is a great host. He helps at breakfast. The service was poor and could be improved with a few changes. Beth is a kind person but we experienced her as a slightly rigid host. The room has rules for the guests which have a punitive tone, nothing about the local area. For example it told guests to arrive at breakfast promptly at 8:30 am no accommodations for other schedules would be made. It didn’t mention that it takes at least 10 minutes for the water to heat up in our bathroom which would be a great addition. The room had a basic bottle of spring water for each guest which costs about 50 cents. If you wanted more it was $5.00 per bottle. Ice was $5.00 per bucket. There was a big container of water in the living room but no cups. There were no other beverages or access to a refrigerator on site except for coffee starting at 7:30 am in the dining room. We stayed 4 nights, Friday through Tuesday. I asked to switch rooms for our Sunday and Monday night stay. Most guests had left. She told us she couldn’t accommodate that. The room was mostly clean except for some dust various places like the bed frame and dead bugs in the windowsill. Breakfast was okay, grilled vegetables and eggs two days in a row. It wasn’t like the pictures others posted. To her credit I think she was accommodating the diet of another guest. We ate elsewhere for breakfast Monday and Tuesday. Duluth itself is a wonderful place to visit! Great restaurants and lots to do! Very welcoming!

We were provided a text which stated the owner was busy and would not be available to greet us upon arrival. We were given instructions on how to access the house as well as our room. The arrival felt very cold and impersonal. The room was nicely appointed and contained a book of very explicit instructions for our stay. We texted Beth, the owner, when we had no hot water. We were told - it's an old house. Leave the shower run for 10 minutes and it will warm up - What a waste!! The lighting in the bathroom was very dim and left much to be desired when trying to put on makeup. There are accomodations that can be made to "old homes" to maintain the character and charm but provide modern updates/conveniences. Breakfasts were mediocre at best. When most guests leave the majority of food on their plate, you know something is missing. Half the fun of these facilities is the delicious food for breakfast and often times an afternoon treat. None of that here. We feel the price was high for the services provided. We have stayed in numerous bed and breakfast facilities and have always had top notch facilities and hosts who went the extra mile. Unfortunately that was not our experience at the Merryweather.

Stayed there last month and was very disappointed. It was a last minute booking on a holiday weekend. There were no hotel rooms within 100 miles of Duluth, but this place had several open rooms. I should have known. Every time we took a shower, we had to wait 20 minutes for hot water. The response from the owner "it's an old house". There was one small window AC unit in the living area to cool the living area, bedroom and bath. We were there two days/nights and the bedroom never cooled off. We literally had three fans blowing into the bedroom and couldn't get it comfortable. There were several pages of instructions on what not to do on the table in our room. For $300 a night, one would think we should be able to bring in our own bottle of wine without being charged $30 and have hot water and AC. Ridiculous!

The Merryweather Inn has become for the last 4 years our place to stay in Duluth. As we inch closer to making Duluth our retirement home, Beth and her dad, John, have welcomed us with the highest of hospitality. Can't say we've stayed in all the rooms but we have never been disappointed. Stay for the breakfast, you will not be disappointed. Definitely our lodging place in Duluth.

We attended a wedding here and it was beautiful! The Merryweather Inn was a unique and intimate venue. The host Beth is an AMAZING cook. She was able to anticipate and accommodate our needs including food allergies. I can't wait to go back for some of the fun community events like a murder mystery party and Christmas tea!

We had our wedding here and also booked a room - Carriage House - for the weekend. The Inn is very charming so we didn't have to worry about hardly any decorations, Beth (owner) did an awesome job decorating the dining room and tables. We had our ceremony outdoors by the fountain, the reception in the dining room and the party in the basement. The basement was quite hot with the lighting and everyone dancing, but Beth brought in fans, towels and everything she could to mitigate the heat. The party never slowed down or stopped. Beth was a big part of making our day special and worry free, she is very accommodating and straight forward with any requests. She also went out of her way to accommodate our family dietary restrictions, preparing a delicious and safe dinner all Gluten Free and even added a vegan option. Our bar was great, bartender was fun, wines were delicious and everyone had a great time. The only two downfalls of the Inn as a wedding venue are, there is only one bathroom downstairs in the basement for the entire party, and the parking situation is street parking only, however it was not hard to find parking in the surrounding blocks. We would highly recommend Merryweather Inn for any stay or event. Beth is an amazing host.

We got married, and stayed the weekend, at the Merryweather Inn and here's why you should too: it's scenic, it's convenient for multiple reasons, and it's a very fun experience that you won't get elsewhere. First, the scenery. Whether you're outside in the garden or inside in one of the beautifully decorated rooms, the scenery is just beyond gorgeous. We got married outside by the fountain because the weather was phenomenal, but we had sooo many options if the weather didn't turn out the way we hoped. The entire grounds are photo opportunities waiting to happen, I constantly was saying ooh and ahh at every room and every detail. We stayed in the Bailey Olcott Suite and I had so many places to lay my dress and bouquet out for pictures. It also made for some beautiful "getting ready" photos. Second, convenience. Beth, the owner helped this poor bride keep her head on. She had all the answers for where to get my makeup done and photographer suggestions, she booked my officiant for me, and she just all around made my life easier even the day of. She's very down to earth and really fun to talk to, and she'll help keep your ducks in line. But also, the fact that you're staying at such a gorgeous place and are able to get ready on site of your wedding makes things BEYOND simple. The fact that I was able to just go run upstairs and grab something if needed made my day so much easier. When the ceremony was done, it was simple to just go back to the room and change instead of waiting all night to go back to a hotel etc. But also in the realm of convenience, you're so close to the canal and downtown area that it was so easy to bring the party to dinner in the area, if you choose to do so. And that brings me to the fun. I can't even begin to describe how fun it was to get married in Duluth, especially at the Merryweather. Beth provided us with a 3 course breakfast in the mornings, complete with little teacups and sugar cubes. One morning we got eggs benedict with salmon and microgreens, which I got to enjoy while sipping out of a fancy teacup, pinky out. Would you get that at a normal hotel? No. I got to wake up feeling like royalty in my giant bed, get up and draw back the sheer curtains like I was in some fancy Disney movie in the mornings. And walking up or down the fancy stairs made me feel like a fairytale entrance. It is definitely not a normal everyday experience to stay at the Merryweather Inn, you actually feel rather pampered and fancy here and it really added to the fun of getting married there. I would recommend considering the Merryweather for your marriage. Our guests and ourselves had a blast.

My wife and I stayed there on our wedding weekend and had fantastic stay. The breakfast in the mornings were delicious! The room was a nice change compared to the standard hotel style rooms. The hostess was also very friendly and a great conversationalist. Will go back again.

My fiance and I stayed here for a weekend getaway and had the most wonderful time! The rooms were clean and beautiful, and there were tons of books and movies to choose from! Beth is an amazing chef, and served us delicious three course breakfast each morning and there was a wine and cheese hour each evening! Can't wait to stay again!

Beyond expectations. Our family arrived to find a host that was passionate about her home and our experience. We stayed in the Rockefeller room and loved all the special touches. The mattress and pillows were 5 stars. We enjoyed wine and cheese on the deck after our evening cocktails in the library. Our daughter played the piano in the front room as our host gave us suggestions on activities in the area. She gave us a great history on the family who built and lived in the home. I can not recommend the Merryweather Inn highly enough. We will be back next year and every year after as long as the host is there. We wish them great success in their new endeavor. We feel like we have not only had a great experience but met friends along the way.

This B&B had amazing vintage charm, great hosts, and wonderful decoration. There is a lovely garden, plants all over the house, and plentiful seating indoors and out. Our room had a couch, a sun room, and a balcony. It was so cozy and comfortable. What blew us away was the fantastic three course breakfast with fruit, corn bread, and a strawberry cake. Would absolutely stay here again next time I'm in Duluth.

I recently stayed 3 nights at the Merryweather Inn for a business trip and really enjoyed staying there. My room was clean and spacious and the bedroom and living rooms were separate from each other which was nice as I made phone calls and worked on my computer in my living room throughout the day. Beth made a delicious breakfast every morning and was very friendly and accommodating. The building is a classic old time mansion with design features that most other Inns or hotels can't replicate. I definitely will return.

We stayed in the carriage house and it was lovely. It was fairly private and had a small kitchen, bedroom, living room and bathroom. The bathroom had a deepish tub with jets, which I love, but it took quite some time to fill up. There was a (small) television and a fake fireplace but it kept the place toasty and provided nice ambiance.

Beth was a lovely host. Breakfast is served promptly @ 0830. Cute place. Uber/Lyft rides to Canal Park were $20 each way for two of us.

We spent a rainy weekend at the Merryweather and loved it! The location is great and the house and our suite were stunningly beautiful! Beth was a fabulous host giving us some great advice on things to do and see in the area as well as preparing and serving the most wonderful breakfast’s! We can’t wait to come back!
