    — January 2024 review 2 stars — The equipment needs maintenance. The leg press machine was out of order for several days (at least 5). Reduced from 4 to 2 stars because of the gym being so full and the equipment being so old or broken. The leg extensions machine makes a big clapping sound because something is catching, which is encouraging, but unwanted. The running machines that don’t use power feel like they’re wearing out - not smooth underfoot and quite sticky. — July 2023 review 4 stars — After regularly attending the gym I’ve noticed there is a lack of equipment for the number of people attending during the evenings. There’s also missing equipment, like that one you use to work your back by pulling your arms out and facing the machine. I would hope that since the gym is so busy, other people are as frustrated as I am having fewer options available, and that they might add to my voice of complaint. It’s a great gym, and the vibe is peaceful - I would just ask for management to invest in more equipment - maybe use the open space at the top left for more machines and make it a really well-stocked gym. — original review March 2023 5 stars — The first time I was given a tour of the facilities I was overwhelmed by the size - impressive! I could not believe that the gym extended over such a large area, which includes a 20m pool. It’s a decent gym too, free weights, equipment, open areas, and classes of all kinds. When the gym is full it’s practically impossible to do what you intended to do because most everything is taken - but the joy of going when few people are there is the best. That’s when you can try new things, and get your sets done.

    Please let me know how I can complain about the internet speed here. I don’t see how a decent Wi-Fi connection is so far out of reach for a franchise like this. My complaint was created with the following response by a lady on the floor, “The internet is working but it’s just slow… Complaint? No, it’s working. It’s just very slow.”

    I have been totally disappointed in VA as I would've expected that a company as big as them would've been able to make an App.... I have not received a single smoothie reward or any rewards since I signed up. I have been going 5+ times a week and would never get it. I have complained in person several times at different branches and called their support team. being told I would receive my rewards and that I'm added to the list....... I am still waiting, honestly fedup with their App! On the plus side their staff are reasonably friendly and the gym itself is good. Just for me it doesn't make sense how their user support is so broken and the constant lies about it being resolved only to not have it resolved.... Equipment is generally in good condition and pool is looked after. Change rooms are good and everything aside from the app is pleasant

    Never have a problem with access to equipment - seldom have people sitting on equipment - do the exercise and move on. Always space to do what you need to so. Staff exceptional! Clean and easy!

    The gym is nice with a lot of cardio machines and clean bathrooms. But the weight equipment is really outdated and not weird and not very user friendly/intuitive. I expected more for a gym in Durbanville.

    The variety of exercise facilities is incredible: from classes with top-notch instructors, like The Grid, Pilates, V-Cycle, to the Swimming pool and all the default equipment. The gym is popular but never over-crowded. And having an Old Mutual Greenlight product (registered with Care4U) you can get up to 50% discount on your club rate.

    For a Virgin Active you would assume they had the right equipment … but they don’t. No L sit benches, and if there is one it’s either broken or in use. Only one for the entire gym. Unbelievable.

    Great gym, very clean and neat. Sauna has some issues sometimes. Staff is also really friendly. Has a Kauai. The gym is situated in a mall. But parking is free.

    3 minutes into my workout a staff member simply appeared and switched off the treadmill I was using and told me I need to leave as it is load shedding. No warning and honestly quite rude.

    The airconditioning is never on - they have fans on the ground floor at the treadmills, but they are off as well. The gym is uncomfortably hot, making going to the gym very unpleasant, and the smell makes the experience even worse. Please please please get airconditioning!!!!

    The staff are friendly and the facility is well kept but I frequently encounter broken equipment, specifically the electronic ones. Treadmills have inoperable buttons or are left in an "out of use" state for a long period of time, often weeks. It would be good if the machines were properly labelled so that it would be easier for clients to easily report faulty equipment.

    Local Virgin Active. Been doing aqua classes for years there. Great passionate instructors! Pool aways well maintained but temperature changes and can be quite cold at times. Ladies changerooms need attention. Benches getting wobbly. Hair drying electrical plugs need attention. Shower doors are optional!! Numerous are missing now for almost a year. Shelves in some showers are still wobbly after many messages to desk. Need to keep an eye on things please.

    Good place for the usual stuff, but the equipment is often in a semi functional state and looking extremely worn with cushions and rubbers worn out.

    It has everything you need and the gym is open during loadshedding. It has a smaller pool but there is always open lanes.

    If I could give zero stars to Virgin Active, I would. I am SO disappointed with my experience with VA. There are several aspects I find SOO problematic. I find their reimbursement process to be notably protracted. Following the cancellation of my membership, they proceeded to deduct the full gym fee amount from my account this month, due to “system glitches”. Abby (one of the managers) and I had an CLEAR verbal agreement that they will only deduct R170,00 from my account. NOTE: This agreement was made during last month when I requested to cancel my membership. SO - Earlier today, I drove to VA in order to confer with the manager. At arrival, I was informed that she would return my call before 12; and she never did. I drove BACK to them and inquired about the possibility of speaking with her AGAIN, and I was told that she's actually on leave?? But, I was promised that the matter would be brought to attention to the club manager for resolution, buuttt this promise also went unfulfilled. Not suprised. I then made a phone call, TWICE, during which I was told that the other manager is currently unavailable as he was in the shower? Very annoyed - drove BACK AGAIN, and funny enough, I was standing behind a couple, trying to resolve the EXACT same problem that I struggled with. Moral of the story - I still didn't get the help needed, as they said that my cancelation was never updated on the system, but I can just come back after work and "they'll see what they can do." I find VA to be a source of SIGNIFICANT disappointment and I will never suggest anyone signing up with Virgin Active, EVER.
