BEWARE! This restaurant is under new management with a completely different menu which has little resemblance to what you will find on their website or others. This review seems to be the first since 2020, and I think it is safe to ignore any reviews before 2022. Big changes for a little restaurant with no public notice. (There is ABSOLUTELY NO EXCUSE for not having an updated menu on their website!) BEWARE that menu options did are not that many. Of the three (3? - Really!) appetizers on the menu, one was not available and the other was a basket of fries (which is hardly an appetizer!) Entree choices were just similarly limited to 3 different salads. pizza, or burgers (served with those "appetizing" fries!) That's it. What we ordered was good, but with few options. BEWARE that I and some others before me found the chairs to be less comfortable for eating than for lounging. They are probably great chairs for a bar, but a poor choice for a restaurant. (I usually eat closer to the table.) BEWARE that our service was provided solely by one bartender who had no other assistance. He mostly did an adequate job, despite being overtaxed. For a burger joint, it was certainly not "fast" food. Had the restaurant been busier, I'm not certain that the service would have been at all satisfactory. BEWARE that a 18.5% gratuity is automatically added to your bill without any mention of that fact on the menu. That amount is not unreasonable, but it seems unfair not to make customers aware of this policy before ordering. I would have awarded 4 STARS on the basis of the food quality alone, which is the main feature I want in a restaurant. We had garlic parmesan chicken wings for an appetizer and burgers for our entrees. (I'll bet you could have guessed that from the menu options.) The chicken was quite tasty, but a little tough and dry. The burgers were tasty, succulent, and cooked precisely to our preference (medium and rare.) Those "appetizing" fries were good, too. The LOCATION, close to the State Theatre, is another plus for this little restaurant, but in all fairness there are many other great dining options just a short walk away. Finally, BEWARE that Christopher's no longer honors dining certificates sold in their name through Restaurants.com. The manager informed me with a an apology, but with no offer to comp any part of our meal, even the iced tea. I expected better treatment than that, but I didn't actually press him on it further. The dining certificate was one reason I chose this restaurant, and I will probably choose a different one next time. BOTTOM LINE, if you are looking for a good burger or simple salad, this is not a bad spot for a bite and a drink before catching a show at the State Theatre. Just don't expect much more.

I went here b/c their Burger was raved about in NJ Mag. Be prepared to be OVERCHARGED for a bland burger. In all seriousness, 5-Guys makes a better burger. I honestly do not know how their burger won #2 spot as best burger in NJ. Bland is Bland, what else can I say. Not even the toppings that dressed the burger helped. Let me not forget to mention that they burned the fries they served me. This really makes you question the credibility of their chefs. They should have never served those fries. For what I paid, I expected a much better meal. This is supposed to be one of the higher end places to eat in New Brunswick, I sure did not get my money's worth. Here's my advice, if you want to eat good food GUARANTEED and pay a FAIR price, go to Old Man Rafferty's. Don't waste your $$ and time here. 2 stars b/c the place is clean, food looked cleaned, service was on the lower end of average, and price was not inline w/ what you are service and food. I won't be returning!!

Stayed at this hotel for a concert across the street on a Saturday night. After the concert we went to the bar. It was 11 and they were supposed to be open until 12. On their website they promoted the bar for after the show. We got our drinks and were told we had to drink in the lobby. They were closing. They said there was no business and decided to close early. At least 20 people came in with us from the concert. Some didn't even get served. I spoke to the hotel manager. Someone from the bar was supposed to contact me, but that never happened. The customer service was disappointing.

1 star is gift, and only because I can't give less. Went with a work function tonight and this was in my top 3 of worst meals I've ever had, and that's only because I haven't felt sick yet. The chicked was over-cooked, zero flavor, and rubbery. The "rice pilaf" or whatever it was served on was inedible. The steaks were all cooked wrong, tough, had no flavor, and one colleague said it tasted like liver. One person never got her food...she was the luckiest one. None of the 16 or so people in my group ate their full meal, half at best. The hotel and restaurant should be ashamed and embarrassed of what they served. A full refund should be given with an apology.

Horrible. Ate there before a show. Waited 15 minutes and no one came over. When we waved to a server she shot us a dirty look and said I'll be there in a minute. We waited 5 more minutes and I then walked to the bar and asked the bartender to put in my order. We wanted to get to the theater on time so ordered burgers. They were expensive and nothing special. Would definitely not go back.

I was born and raised in and around New Brunswick. It is a city which I love above all others. Over the last few years I have made several unsuccessful attempts to dine at Christopher's, simply from not being able to determine if they were serving or not from their poorly designed website. Recently tried again and their voice mail reservation message is from Valentine's Day....LoL. This is June, that was February. When i mentioned it to the hotel front desk they said they've mentioned to restaurant staff countless times, so what gives?? If you guys wanna play in the big leagues, given the AMAZING resources you have directly across the street you need to have way more attention to simple detail. We're going to Salt before the show at the State Theater.

Our dinner was just awful. We made a reservation for a Wednesday night at the restaurant for 6 people. We arrived and the restaurant was closed so we had to sit in the bar. The server had no idea a table of 6 was coming in. It was at least 10 minutes before our server came over. We ordered drinks and food at the same time. The tuna tar tar was ok. Unremarkable but nothing bad about it. The mushroom bisque was fine. The charcuterie board was woefully overpriced ($15) for what we got. For entrees we got one salmon, one pasta, two steaks, one cheesesteak and one burger. The salmon and pasta were fine. The two steaks came out cold with a big slice of butter on top, which was not melted, because the meat (and plates) were cold. The cheesesteak was nearly inedible as the bread was so hard that it could not be bitten into. The burger was asked to be cooked medium and came out nearly raw - after it was cut there was blood all over the bottom or the plate and the bun was blood soaked. We sent the steaks back to be heated and the burger back to be refired. The burger came back rare, but at that point we saw no point in sending it back a second time. The accompaniments that came with the cheesesteak (onion rings) and burger (sweet potato and regular fries) were the bright spot in this bleak meal. The manager came out with apologies as did the server. To her credit the server seemed overwhelmed but very pleasant. I do not know if the quality in the restaurant is better but I cannot stress enough to stay away from the bar. Coming here will be a complete waste of money and you will, very likely, leave hungry.

The food is very WEIRD here. I have been staying at the heldrich hotel for 2 weeks now and i had lunch here everyday and the options are just very very weird. There are no basics, no subs, pasta, the pizza only contains seafood. The food isn't bad its just really weird.
