It’s not often I find a restaurant that seasons my food perfectly, but Fat Cactus Cantina has hit the mark! Truly stellar food. I’ve gone twice this winter and they do not disappoint. Everything we’ve tried and been served here have been amazing! Not overly salted, fresh flavors, and the table side salsa tastes like they care and not just something they’re throwing at you. Service was okay, there’s room for minor improvements. Not everyone is trying to stay long to see a game or are drunk patrons that could care less; but the servers weren’t rude. Table wait time was reasonable but was told there was a limit time to it which feeling rushed wasn’t great. But the food was really good so I’ll keep it at 5 stars.

This place was very upsetting to say the least first of all we got there around 3 o’clock. It was not busy at all, and had to wait about ten minutes for a server to come up to us. The service was horrendous they obviously lack proper training and management in the restaurant. The waitress had to be flagged down for anything we needed and never checked in on us or asked if we needed anything. I don't blame her though she was obviously new and not trained properly. That falls on the managers and owners of the restaurant. As for the food the only good things were the chips and guacamole. The burritos and tacos all lacked any kind of flavor and you could taste that the meat was not made to order but actually mass produced. Definitely better off going to a mom and pop Mexican restaurant in the area where the food is 100 times better rather than donating to this poorly ran corporate restaurant.

The good reviews must come from friends and family. Everything has no taste, taste like water including the margarita. The salsa they give you was too watery and the “Queso” was bland. The steak Chimichurri meal was nasty and flavorless. The steak was over cooked and rubbery the beans and rice had no flavor. This place is WAY too EXPENSIVE for flavorless food.

Great place with uplifting vibes! I been to this place frequently and its always busy. I recommend to have reservations on weekend. After 11pm, bar area turn into dance floor. Great music too. Perfect place for group, date, family and its reasonably priced. My favorite items are build my own tacos and have enough veggie options. Their margaritas are average than how it supposed to be. Fun fact is this place turned into discotheque after 11pm.

Food was amazing. The service was great. Everything we ordered was great , except the burritos. The decor and ambience was very modern. Drinks were good, everyone loved the margaritas. The tower fajitas looked good and also tasted good. I had the enchiladas with a really good mole sauce. They charged us $2 per person for us cutting a birthday cake we got with us, that was very off putting and sounded very rude and soured our experience. It was not about the money, it just came across as they did want to something basic to keep customers happy.

First time visited the Fat Cactus and before heard a lot from friends so I think was expected more! Anyway, big spacious place with indoor and outdoor sitting. Good food a bit expensive for same quality of Mexican food available many places with same variety I mean. Place was very noisy, so not a great choice for meeting and relax talking or a get-together. Interior was very beautifully placed creating Mexican theam and staff was great... food takes time when it's busy, better go prepared waiting for it.

I would definitely recommend going here. The interior design is really nice and festive. There’s also 2 floors of sitting and the music is fun. The food tasted great and they have quite a few vegetarian options that all looked really good. We had the veggie fajita, grilled cauliflower tacos, and a 7-later burrito which all tasted amazing. Overall, it was a very nice experience.

Just loved it. Their “own creat tacos” are delicious 😋 must try that. Also home made dipping sauce is too good. Overall I must recommend to go and eat ❤️

I really don't have anything bad to say about this Restaurant. Food and Drinks were excellent and they had plenty of good options. They had a live Mariachi Band performing, which was super fun. Service was also quick, especially considering how busy they were. Family friendly

Surprised by the ambiance and the atmosphere! Its very happening with loud music and attractive wall decors! The lighting is soo good to take best pictures. Also best place to celebrate your birthday as they all come down with the cake and sing the bday song for you. One of the best mexican restaurant around Rutgers!!

Happy hour party of 8 before a drag show at the state theater. Fun atmosphere! Great salsa, guacamole, amd chips. Amazing frozen sangria *I'm looking at you, Jose Tejas). We had tacos from the happy hour menu, and they were very good. OMG they have Fiestaware dessert plates°°

Great ambience! Make your own taco is fun. The appetizers are yummy. They give a big bowl of complimentary chips and salsa There is outdoor seating during summer. Reservations is recommended, otherwise wait time is 20-30 min. Street parking available

The atmosphere is VERY lively, So if you are there to converse with someone, it might get a bit difficult, but in a good way since the dj and the entertaining environment are very fun. Food is really good, but I will be very honest, I could definitely get food just as good or more for much less of a price. I feel like the prices are unnecessarily jacked up, but I will say the burritos are rightfully priced. They're very stuffed and worth the money you pay. Drinks, however, aren't that strong and watered down with ice and a lot of sugar. I would definitely come back for the burrito and the fun environment here :)

Great lively place with music and decor. The food and drinks - average. The free chips comes with completely bland salsa. They charge for the spicy sauces that come with more chips. We tried the cocktail. Too weak and too sweet. Might as well order a sugar drink with some cocktail flavor Taco - the fish was a small spec. The flavors non existent. They serve it with 2 tacos. I am sure there is a reason for that. Black beans and rice were good. The chicken enchiladas - more cheese than everything else combined. Blackened Salmon was not bad.

Food was OK, not very good. Staff was slow in getting the food, we could see our guacamole sitting at the counter for many minutes. Ambiance was pretty nice and rest of the dishes were good.

This place could be a hit or a miss! The food is great but service is not always friendly. They are extremely busy but few times we have had very unfriendly service. Last night our server Amelia would walk past our table but not once would check on us. It took forever to get chips and salsa. We had to remind her twice. She also got us the wrong drink. I don’t understand why they serve margaritas in beer and water glasses. The southwestern flautas are great. They have best salsa. Cajun Shrimps were disappointing because you only get 6 shrimps for that price. Build your own tacos is perfect with veggie options but now they have restricted to two sauces per taco.

Came through for happy hour. Small plates and original margaritas were delightful. I thoroughly enjoyed the chicken empanadas which satisfied my quest for Mexican food. I have dined at this location plenty of times and plan on more in the future. 9.5/10

Heard about this restaurant earlier but thought to give a try on marriage anniversary. We were happily surprised. Ambiance is very pleasant and felt young with college students bringing energy. Staff was so friendly and makes you comfortable. Had enough options for vegetarian and very tasty food. Will definitely visit again

Absolutely love this place! The food is amazing and our server Collin recommended some great drinks. Great for date night, night with friends, we even did my birthday here. Get to Fat Cactus!

The thing I liked most about Fat Cactus after my recent first visit is the ambience inside the restaurant. The salsa was decent. Not my favorite at all, it was too soupy. The drinks were good, but the bartender was extremely slow taking our orders when the bar wasn’t even busy. I got the “build your own” tacos. I thought the food was good but it could have been a lot better. More specifically, the biggest thing I had a problem with was the portions. The portions of meat inside the tacos was very small. Definitely didn’t have a need for 2 tortillas. I’m not exaggerating, please look at my picture for reference. I’ve ate tacos In all my travels. This is the first time I almost sent them back to the kitchen for serving such a ridiculously small portion of meat. I’d consider coming here again, but if I get poor service and small portions again, I definitely wouldn’t come back after that.

Great location to meet up with friends and have a couple of cocktails. The food was good, but not great. The atmosphere was amazing, and I loved the music. Staff was friendly, but food and drinks do not come out quickly. Overall, it was a good experience and lots of fun with friends.

The lively musical atmosphere infused with authentic Mexican vibes created the perfect backdrop for an unforgettable dining experience. The staff's exceptional customer service made me feel truly welcomed and attended to. The food was a delightful revelation - from flavorful tacos to rich, savory enchiladas, each dish was a culinary masterpiece. Fresh ingredients, generous portions, and reasonable prices made it even more appealing. A must-visit destination for those seeking fantastic food and ambiance.
