This museum is at Republic airport - you can see the airstrip, takeoffs and landings. The museum is smaller, and less officious and more focused than Cradle of Aviation. At the same time it is is much more interactive. You can enter or climb into many planes, touch and handle guns and equipment and even use a flight simulator together with the one of the staff member. The staff is very friendly, helpful and engaging. Parking is next to the museum. We came mid-day on Sunday but there were several empty lots. The museum has a small gift shot

This is a fun hidden gem on the border of Suffolk and Nassau. A lot of the US air power in WW II was created at this location. The museum is located on the Republic Airport itself. In the past few years, the parking lot was made much smaller into a one way lot with angled spaces on one side. If you haven't come here, you're missing out. That being said, I'd like to see a little more in the museum. They also do special events during the year, but some of those are rather expensive.

My son and I really enjoyed this place. The planes were in great shape and well taken care of and you could enter a couple of them. Leone was an amazing guide and Frank was a great simulator instructor. If we go back to the area, we will be sure to visit again.

If you like museums, an aviation or military buff, or just intrigue about some Long Island history and would like to learn more, a visit to the American Airpower Museum will be a delight and not disappoint. Located at Farmingdale, Long Island, American Airpower Museum offers many aircraft on display, and most are operational. They offer many events that showcase the history and display the amazing aircraft they have on hand. The museum is open from Wednesday to Sunday and is manned by knowledgeable volunteers that provide so many details and facts regarding the museum and its exhibits. We have been here many times and have learned new things every time. To the volunteers and our veterans, we thank you for your service.

Best aviation experience ever! Our tour guide was awesome and I felt the passion he had for aviation. I learned about Grumman and the role that women played during WW2 was an eye opener and this is not taught in school, of which it should be! An experience I will never forget, as an aviation enthusiast it was a dream come true.

I have always passed this museum but never went in. Today I finally went to the museum. It was such an amazing experience. From the moment I stepped into the place all the tour guides were so welcoming and informative. The tour guide was very knowledgeable and I learned so much. There are many planes that are on display that still fly today!

My son and I passed by yesterday on our way to Target and he saw the planes and wanted to go in. I am so glad that we did! It was a beautiful day out and we got to see the planes in the hangar as well as ones outside. My 3-year-old was WOWED by everything there! And while we are outside a really nice gentleman volunteer offered to take a picture of my son and I next to the planes. Then afterwards he walked around the entire museum with us and gave us history on everything and showed us all that the museum has to offer. We really had such a great experience because of this man giving us such a wonderful tour. My son got to go into one of the big planes which he loved! Also before we left he gave my son a pamphlet that has pictures of the planes inside with information, my son loved the experience so much he carried the pamphlet around the rest of the entire day and slept with it last night! We will definitely be coming back here and I can't wait till they have another Air show because apparently they had one the day before we came and we missed it because we didn't know but now I will be keeping a lookout! Thank you for such a wonderful experience!

This place is amazing, can't believe it is located right in our back yard. A must go and see. Great collection of modern (WW2 and current), some still working, air going vessels. Amazing displays, as well as Interactive displays. One even allows visitors to use their imagination by taken into the air in a WW2 bomber as a gunner/bomber/or pilot.

Really cool experience. Lots of old plane models that you one can climb into and touch everything, controls, turrets, etc. Ideal for kids who want to experience the planes rather just see it from distance. Amazing volunteers too that are very helpful.

I love this place—one of the most incredible hidden gems of long island. The Museum is excellent, and my kids (ages 3 through 12) had a fantastic time. I would highly recommend it to anyone who wants to be inspired by the marvelous achievements of humanity in aero space technology.

The pleasure was in three parts. The conversations, stories and warmth of the volunteers before the flight were welcomed and interesting. The flight in this vintage plane over Long Island was long over due and memorable. Thanks, Dave. The after-flight experience was the museum, a class collection of aviation material. Treat yourself. Go. Donate.

Fantastic displays. Great tribute to our past Love the hands on displays. A great wealth in well preserved historic aircraft and paraphernalia. The volunteers are a wealth of knowledge and great historic information. We are fortunate to have such dedicated folks. Thank you from a fellow aviator retired

Truly outstanding. Long Island has a very host aviation history, and the American Airpower Museum helps capture and preserve it, with artifacts and actual flying aircraft that are quite rare. You can see a C-47 Cargo plan, Grumman TBM avenger, P-40 Warhawk, Republic A-10, F-105, F-84 Grumman E-6 Prowler and F-111. On select days you can see commerative flights with B-29s or B-15s. Truly a wonderful place to visit and a gem of Long Island.

I was given a wonderful birthday gift by my best friend to take their tour in WACO bi plane. I had a fabulous time. From the checking into the flight experience and to the post flight chat with the crew , it's was awesome. Extremely friendly staff I'd highly recommend it to anyone who'd like to experience history and avaiation. Best time to fly would be around 11am and in September. If you are a hat wearer please wear it backwards or leave it on the ground.

I've driven past this place a bunch of times in my life. Finally had some family over and decided it was time. A very good place to spend some time, full of interactive things and historical pieces from the wars of old and the history of long island. It doesn't even take too long to see a lot of stuff. Very kid friendly. I definitely recommend

One of the most unique and interesting Air Force museum I visited. It’s located right next to an airport as EVERY plane exhibited can fly. Staffs are passionate and are very willing to tell you all about it. You are allowed to get hands on some older generations of aircrafts and turrets. Many libraries provide free entrance for this museum.

This was one of the most epic things I've done my entire life! The staff was awesome, knowledgeable, friendly, and professional. Safety was paramount. The skills and personality of the pilot were top notch. I expected to be nervous - I was not. I will certainly be back to do this again. Thank you to the American Airpower Museum for offering such an amazing experience!

Most of the planes they have there still fly! That is the single most important reason to go there and admire them! Staff is extremely nice, polite and knowledgeable! I mean just the pure fact that the place is in an actual hanger next to an airport and they fly classic planes out of there, I feel gives this place the gold star!

Amazing collection of aircraft and historical artifacts! The staff were kind, generous and passionate. They were really easy to engage in conversation and learn lots of amazing stories! They made sure to accommodate my child which was really appreciated. Would highly recommend for anyone who is interested in aircraft and military history! Thank you

I was visiting family, and we wanted to so something together, and we found this nearby. When we arivide, we were politely greeted. The price of admission is very fair, and there are discounts available for military and first responders I believe. We went in, randomly looking around as a family, until we rain into a gentleman named David. He was a wealth of knowledge, and an absolute pleasure. He had us all captivated, and even got my 8 year old son interested. You could really feel the history and pride in that place. Everything is well maintained, and is set up in a way that flows. If you ever get the opportunity, please pay this museum a visit.

Great museum showcasing air power America used from, mostly from WWI, WWII. Worth a visit to speak with the knowledgeable volunteers.

One of the best ways to explore and learn about aviation history and the contribution of Long Island to it. On the site and inside a huge hangar of a big plane manufacturer. Many historic planes and nice veteran volunteers who gladly explain everything to you and your young.

Brought my son here from PA for his birthday. I didn't plan on this place exactly but found out about it while in the town. I'm so glad we went. The one employee Frank was absolutely the best guy ever. He walked my son around and told him and showed him everything in the place. He was so knowledgeable about everything from planes, guns, tanks, and history. He really made the difference in my son's day. Thank you. Definitely recommend this museum. It is fairly priced and definitely alot of stuff to do

This museum is wonderful. It is very kid friendly. We visited on a Wednesday, as soon as it opened. Despite the fact that many children are off from school for the holidays, it wasn't too busy. The prices are reasonable (if you live on LI be sure to check your local library for museum passes). It is interactive, and there is tons of information about the different aircrafts as well as other facts about World War II. History buffs will definitely enjoy this museum. Most of the staff is friendly. My only gripe was with the gentleman who sells the tickets- he wasn't exactly the nicest (perhaps he was having an off day- we all have those). I highly recommend the American Airpower Musem!

I have to say I can't comment on the cost, wait, crowd, admission because I was there as part of a film production work shoot. However it was soo cool and a bit distracting because museum collection was filled with fascinating history and military historical fighter jets, simulator, engine combustion demo. Loved will go back! Phenomenal, flight simulator, go up loaded with gear in paratrooper plane and get the D-Day experience.

Smalllnbut beautiful. They have these veterans who are your guides and explain each and everything about whats inside. Not sure if they accept tips but I think they don't. They are doing this as an honour. It also has a gift shop which has these old WW2 bomber jackets. Pretty cool but some are way too costly. Could have sold more if they were a little more maintained.

If you or have kids interested in aviation, this is a great place to visit. Many of the aircraft still fly. You can book flights, chat with vets and learn so much about WW2. Also right on the runway so you may catch departing and arriving flights.

What an amazing museum! Located just north of Amityville, it easily accessible by train/Uber. As I entered, Steven, one of the docents kindly offered me a private tour of the museum highlighting some of the great artifacts. Having served in Vietnam himself, it was interesting to hear his connections to the exhibits and his opinions. I would highly recommend the museum.

If you are passionate about history, or you simply like to learn something interesting every day, visit this peculiar museum, you will love it. My son and I really enjoyed being there. We met a friendly man who took us on the tour, telling us anecdotes and stories of what happened with each item exhibited in this small but interesting museum.

  • 5/5 Maureen R. 2 years ago on Google
In depth display of American Airpower using original aircraft and fascinating displays of America's superiority at war. Detailed models of dozens of aircraft, models, displays and facts. Docents are very knowledgeable and readily available. They also have life sized displays of WW2 command centers, field operations, actual uniforms. You just have to see for yourself. Aa1

Really unique museum! Will stop by again when my kids are a bit older (okay for my three year old, but no so much for the one year old). They have a number of planes converted into exhibits; you can sit down inside and walk around.
